Introverted and shy, Robin Brodie carved out a solitary existence in the woods near Castle Lachlan. He avoids all contact with others but for the friendship of one woman, Alix. When Alix becomes engaged to Duncan Campbell, she has little time for Robin--but he never forgets her. When Duncan faces mortal danger, will Robin make the ultimate sacrifice for the woman he loves?
The Christy-award winning author of nineteen books including the Women of Faith Novel of the Year Quaker Summer, Lisa Samson has been hailed by Publishers Weekly as "a talented novelist who isn't afraid to take risks." She lives in Kentucky with her husband and three kids.
I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series, so of course I decided to read the next one. Where do I start? First off...there were too many men involved. Robin, Duncan, and Aaron. Why? I found it a little over the top. I understand that The next book is about Aaron, so that makes sense. But why all the interaction with Alix? I just didn't get it. Second, there were too many people in general to Keep up with. We had Robins sister, the maids, Alix's brother, the orphan children, robins little sister whos name I could never remember, Alix's friend from school, and many more. It's okay to have a lot of people, but Samson attatched a story on each one of those people. It was like reading a book about 15 different people! I'm not saying I didn't like the book, it was just a tad confusing and frustrating. I like the storyline and the dialect. The dialect is a huge part of why I loved the first one and liked this one. I guess after crying, laughing, and smiling at the first, you can't except the sequel to be as good.
