Kensingtons #2

Real Regrets

Rate this book
One night. Two strangers. Lots of regrets…

A bachelor party in Las Vegas is the last place Oliver Kensington wants to spend a long weekend. He likes controlling outcomes, not the uncertainty of gambling. For the most part, his reputation as the reliable, responsible Kensington brother is well-deserved. But for one of the few people he considers a friend, he’ll show up in sin city.

Oliver’s focus is on work—and on getting back into his father’s good graces. But he’s not expecting absolution for past mistakes; Arthur Kensington doesn’t forgive.

So when an offer to forget is made as soon as Oliver returns to New York, it’s shocking. And it’s the same demand his father made years to marry a woman as part of a business arrangement. This time, there’s no chance his brother Crew will be the one waiting at the end of the aisle, which is how Oliver’s last engagement ended.

The answer should be obvious. Most of Oliver’s life has centered around earning his father’s approval and becoming CEO, both of which he thought were lost opportunities. Learning they’re not should be the best news he’s received all year.

Problem is, there’s a piece of paper in his pocket that says he’s already married…to the blonde woman he met in the bar of a Vegas hotel.

❛“Any regrets?”
“Nope. You?”
“None.”❜

The Kensingtons, a multi-million-dollar family, are the equivalent of the American monarchy. Oliver is the eldest son and one of the heirs. Therefore, when he woke up in a Vegas hotel room with a stunning blonde at his side and a piece of paper maculated with their signatures, stipulating that they are married. He could not fail to question the blonde’s reasons for agreeing to marry a complete stranger even though they were both drunk that night, especially when he discovered the identity of the mysterious woman wife jointly with the "former history" she had with the Kensington family.

"It’s easier to be alone when it feels like a choice, instead of an inevitability."

It’s always thrilling to read books featuring protagonist(s) that a previous storytelling made me dislike or even loathe. Hence why I was excited to delve into Oliver’s story and try to dissect his personnage who was most often shielded by a stoic, calculated shell until he committed one fatal mistake in 'Empire'. Surprisingly, the plot line of 'Real Regrets' draws not one, but two brilliantly orchestrated redemption arcs.

"Calling this pull between us attraction seems too tame. It’s an enchantment. An addiction. A compulsion."

Oliver flagellated himself constantly throughout the book for his anterior sins. I liked being in his mind and trying to comprehend the tumultuous and bizarre dynamics he shared with his father and the rest of his family. He was a composed and pragmatic man with an atrocious lack of fun and pleasure in his daily basis, who was constantly trying to gain his father’s respect and approval.
The female lead (not mentioning her name because it’s kind of a spoiler and it’s better to dive into their story without knowing some details, as who she is.) on the other hand, was a bit challenging to scrutinize but the more we get to know her the more the way she was portrayed, previously, as a cold-hearted and unfriendly personage faded away showing a more heartwarming and relatable facette of her personality.

“You have me,” I whisper. “You’ll always have me.”

The storyline embraced a longing slowburn romance that embarked with a relatively slow start, they lived thousands of miles away from each other but they agreed to get a quick and hushed divorce. I loved to witness how their relationship flourished from a bad decision to finding their soulmate. How their bond bloomed slowly but surely from strangers to partners with their undeniable connection and sexual tension. They learned to know each other, to be happy for each other’s accomplishments but most importantly they learned how to make compromises and take some time and try to know each other.

P.S.: I loved reconnecting with Scarlett and Crew and their sweet, little family.🫶🏼

Just to see Crew and scarlet

Ok so not sure about this one now
Oliver hooked up with his stepmom in the first book
and the love interest in this one is his brother ex hookup.
Ewww

I skipped thru a lot of this one just cause I wasn’t invested in this couple. But this is how it goes for me with series. I fall for the first guy and can care less about the others. Lol

UPDATE |

* I had to drop everything and read this book and I’m so glad I did, I’m absolutely obsessed with the Kensingtons and this book did a great job and filling the void that was left after reading the last
* I did not expect Oliver Kensington’s book to go the way it did, from his role in Fake Empire I’m glad to see such growth and a developed character
* Did I expect Hannah???? Not at all but I loved it nonetheless, it’s an unlikely pair but one I seemed to enjoy
* I loved how their meet cute was something so ordinary and not some crazy coincident or accident that we see in other romance books
* The chemistry was great, I loved how C.W. Farnsworth really hones in on the development of a relationship despite marriages in the Kensington household happening prematurely!!!
* I absolutely loved Scarlett and Crew’s involvement in this book, they were supportive of Oliver and had meaningful impact rather than cameo roles
* I could go on about this series, I’m so glad it was not a fluke
* Although Fake Empire will hold a special place in my heart that can’t be levelled, Real Regrets was an amazing accomplice piece, I really recommend this series as a whole

Hero had sex with his father's wife in the previous book and is suffering the consequences of the act. The heroine is one of the women of the hero of the previous book (his brother) and was a bitch with the previous Heroine. I lost interest.
I regretted picking up this book.

This is the kind of book I’ll probably forget tomorrow.
There’s nothing particularly wrong or bad with it, it simply is not interesting enough and nothing momentous happens…
I suppose the heroine was an evil ow from a previous book, she was the hero’s brother’s fuck buddy for some time before he got married a couple of years before.
So it was kind of yucky to think she sampled both brothers.
She meets the hero in Vegas and they end drunk and married, but I didn’t really understand that part, the hero wasn’t drunk when he met her and he’s the kind of guy who doesn’t drink much, he wanted to have sex with her and she with him, so how did they get drunk and get married and why? It was never explained.
They are very civil and they agree to have a quiet divorce but of course they meet repeatedly and fall in love.
The hero is from a very rich and powerful family and his father wants him to marry an heiress of his choice but he refuses, the heroine is not poor herself.
They are both very sensible and pleasant people, there’s nothing unpleasant beside the meeting with her former lover and his wife but it goes even too well, so no angst at all, and no conflict.
Basically a book I could live without…
Both celibate after meeting, the hero is no manwhore and the heroine had other partners before the hero but she’s single now.
I don’t think I’ll read the previous one.

ugh... this was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and i am so disappointed.

the story had a lot of potential but it just fell flat and it was painfully boring. also the chemistry between the two main characters was literally nonexistent, i simply couldn’t care less about their relationship.

i don’t really understand why the author had to choose Hannah as the FMC. was it too hard to find or create another character? i think i would have liked this book better if the author had choosen another character to be his love interest.

the only thing i actually enjoyed was seeing Crew, Scarlett and their little family! it made me very happy so i’m giving this an extra star just because of them <3

OMGGGGGG YOU GUYS!!!!! THIS WAS ONE OF MY MOST ANTICIPATED READS AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT 🥹 thank you a million times to Charlotte and Wordsmith publishing for providing me with an arc in exchange of an honest review !

Why you should read Real Regrets :

- Oliver is HOT. Like HOT HOT 🥵 I didn’t expect to like him that much based on the few glimpses of him we got in Fake Empire but he totally won my heart. He made me cry from the prologue which is quite impossible usually. He is so much more than what we saw of him and I love me a tortured MMC 🤠

- I know this book is Romance but the BROTHERHOOD????? I absolutely loved getting to see Crew and Oliver develop their relationship and getting closer despite being in « competition » their whole lives. They are so precious and deserve the WORLD. Not less. NEVER LESS. 🤧

- Hannah was such a nice FMC to read about too!! Owning to her past mistakes and all. She also has such a nice dynamic around her overall, we like Hannah!

- THE BANTER! THE ANGST! THE TENSION! THE CUTENESS! THE SEXINESS! 🫦🫦

guys if this isn’t enough to convince you I don’t know what will.

( also, the Crew/Scarlett appearances are everything, so wholesome to see them so happy and settled as a couple )

Matrimonio en Las Vegas
Billionaire

So I didn't read the first book - I went in blind with this one. I don't even think I read the blurb...just kind of clicked on the first book that came up in my recommendations. That happens sometimes.

As soon as I found out that the heroine had a thing with the hero's brother, I pretty much disconnected from the story. I did end up reading / skimming through to the end, and it seemed like the story would have worked out the exact same way had she NOT been the hero's brother's ex-hookup. She could have known only Scarlett (the ex-hookup's wife)...or she could have had no connection to the hero's family at all, and it all would have worked out the same. Why? Because regardless of the situation, the angst was pretty tame. It all felt a bit underwhelming so why did the author bother?

Also, the hero had sex with his stepmother? That was a whole mess that didn't need to happen and turned me off the hero.

Because I didn't really read the book properly (skimmed more than read), I'm not rating this. Needless to say, it wasn't my thing and I had no investment in the characters, etc, just morbid curiosity to see how it all panned out. That curiosity was the only thing that kept me from a hard DNF once their connection comes to light.

I tried, but I could not get over Hannah being the FMC. She was awful in Fake Empire. Nothing in this book made me understand her actions so I could root for her. I laughed when Crew apologized to her.

i would be lying if i said that i wasn’t reluctant to read about hannah and oliver at first, but farnsworth has the unmatched talent to write love stories within high society and make them worthwhile with the angst and drama!

i thought that hannah and oliver were both realistically written with their flaws also revolving around their strong work ethics, competitive streaks, and—of course—regrets. understanding your partner is just as important as accepting them for who they are and i love how emphasized that was in their relationship!

i only deducted a star from my rating because i believe that the development and pacing of hannah and oliver’s “marriage” could have been better.

obsessed with hannah and oliver! this was a lot more slow burn than fake empire, but i enjoyed learning more about hannah's backstory + family and why oliver was so determined to become CEO. farnsworth does banter so well in this series - i adored seeing them become friends as they slowly developed into more. the tension was everything and when we finally got a spice scene, *whew* was it good.

4,5 🌟

I will start my review by thanking the author and her team for the provided Arc file.

I liked Oliver's book more than his younger brother's book. It was nice to see the two heroes from a different, better side.

I will not mention the name of the girl in my review, so I will indicate her as the Sunshine

Oliver is a workaholic who works more than he is in his house, his wardrobe almost consists of only suits. He is in a difficult relationship with his father after the incident with Candice. And one day his college friend invites him to a bachelor party that will be held in Las Vegas.

Sunshine - works as hard as Oliver, and at the last moment she is given an assignment to go to Las Vegas to meet with a potential client. In the evening, she sits in her room and decides to go down to the bar and relax a little.

It is from this moment that fate begins its course of events

A meeting with a beautiful man, a couple of martinis combined with night adventures and a marriage paper in a Nevada church.

After the shock, they decide that they need to solve all the problems of last night.
But throughout the book they communicate and get to know each other and understand how well they fit each other.

I liked how their relationship developed, how they got to know each other from the other side. I liked the appearance of Scarlett and Crew and how they supported and helped the heroes.

If you want to read a book about adult and healthy relationships, then feel free to read this book. She will make you laugh and take a good break from the hustle and bustle. Oliver and his wife will take care of it.

Absurd

There are so many things wrong with this, and I'll begin with Hannah: she shouldn’t have been the FMC. Her and Oliver are characters from the first book - set in New York - which is Crew and Scarlett's story, where Hannah is a former casual "friend" of Crew's and she's very aggrieved and unpleasant to Scarlett and Crew when he makes it clear he's going to be honouring his marriage vows. I didn't realise the Hannah in this book is the same Hannah from the first book because she lives and works in L.A. and a different personality, so it was jarring when I discovered they were the same character; talk about a complete 180 change! On to Oliver: a closed off and one dimensional character, he also had an affair with his stepmother and is Crew’s older brother. These people travel in the same social circles and how Oliver didn’t know who Hannah is was ridiculous. I didn’t feel there was any indication of a meaningful connection with Hannah after their one night in Vegas, and him dragging his feet over proceeding with a divorce was not plausible. His character was fleshed out toward the end, and the epilogue was the best part of the book. Improbable story made for a struggling read.

When I found out the MMC was Crew’s (from Fake Empire) brother, who slept with their step Mum, I was a bit turned off. Then I found out the FMC was Hannah, Crew’s extremely nasty ex, I didn’t even want to read the book.
But I trucked on and I’m glad I did! It was a really good book! Both characters were complex and hurting, and redeemed themselves. It was frustrating (the miscommunication) but they got it sorted.

I’m not gonna lie, I enjoyed this. I skimmed through some parts, not because of writing style or anything like that, but because of the lack of couple scenes, we got %45 of the book of with couple scenes and they weren’t a couple “couple”. There was this never ending loophole that, are they gonna divorce or not, are they gonna confess or not lol. But when they were together, that was a chef’s kiss kind of moment cause our girl just know how to create a perfect environment for her couples. You are got sucked into their world, you can feel every single emotion and that’s on a wonderful talented writer. ✨
My biggest worry was that I literally disliked Hannah in the first book, she was THE bitch to our beloved couple so I was so curious to see other side of the story, somehow still not so much convinced about Hannah, although I liked Oliver more than the first book. I felt sorry for him but not for his actions and also his character always makes some kind of an excuse for his actions. Family issues, daddy issues, brother issues. But I’m glad we see a side of Kensington brothers that we couldn’t see in the first book. I hate their dad, that’s never gonna change.
I loved how Scarlett and Crew was so into this story, they were a part of Oliver and Hannah’s story and it didn’t feel forced at all. I don’t like when couples makes cameo and it feels so forced but this was so lovely. Even seeing Scarlett forgiving Hannah was okay! Although I can’t imagine being with your siblings ex (major side eye)! 👀🙈
Okay I will shut up now, clearly I loved this book, read it in all one day and definitely recommend it! ❣️

Enjoyed Book 1 but not this one! With so many women out there, Oliver fell in love and married his brother's ex or the woman his brother casually having a sexual relationship with before and who was nasty to his brother's wife. Not recommended.

Oliver MF Kensington 😮‍💨😮‍💨

✨ Possessiveness isn't my thing. It always seemed like a trait of insecure men. But according to a document filed in some office in Nevada, Hannah Garner is mine. And I'm pleased by that fact. Proud of it. Possessive of it.✨

If C.W. Farnsworth has one fan, it's me!!!!! I first found Charlotte with a sports romance last august, and I've been hooked by every single one of her books since.
Real regrets is an interconnected stand alone, but I recommend reading Fake Empire (Crew's book) first!
I absolutely devoured Oliver's book. He may have even taken place as my favorite Kensington brother!
Also, the character redemptions were so welcome.
Amazing job Charlotte! I'm going to miss these characters so much.

✨I'm convinced there's no sexier sight in the world than Oliver Kensington in a tuxedo with ruffled hair and blazing eyes, his rigid erection proudly on display.✨
