I read this book to prepare for the IAPP foundations exam. I used this book, the online class, and practice exam to prep for this test. Glad to say I passed. This is step 1 of 2 to receive official IAPP certification. I haven't decided if I will pursue that at this time.
Overall the book does a nice job introducing the basic concepts associated with privacy and information security risks describing the evolution of the topic, global and industry impacts. In the new world of cyber security this is an important topic for individuals like myself who are in the IT profession. The book is a straight forward quick read. If your reading for te exam I would recommend you use all of the aids I mentioned above and spend at least 20 hours on material. I did about 20 hours over five weeks (chapter a week). Good luck.
Highly recommended book for introduction to information privacy. I thought that it was well written but may not be up to date as local legislation and laws change but fundamentals always stays the same. Some of the bibliography are also worth looking into if you're interested in getting more depth in any of the domains covered.
Good start to understanding information privacy considerations. Definitions, regulations throughout the world and regulating bodies, privacy sectors, implementing security policies (majority of discussion), online privacy.
