Born in Poland while it was under oppressive Russian rule, Marie Curie overcame incredible obstacles to become the first person to win the Nobel Prize twice. However, there was far more to her great mind than the work she did with radium and radioactivity. Marie Curie is an enlightening look into the life of one of history’s most prominent and extraordinary scientists.
This is a book that my son is reading as a supplement for his chemistry class. I recently read Half Life, a historical fiction novel about Marie Curie, and it was such a good story that I wanted to learn more about her. This biography is really detailed and perfect for middle schoolers. It left out her personal drama, which would not be appropriate for kids. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I hope my son does as well when he finishes it.
It taught me a lot about Marie Curie that I didn't know about her before. In it, I also learned about her husband, Pierre Curie, and her family. It was relatively well written. In some parts, there is a lot of technical scientific stuff and I have no clue what it's talking about, which is somewhat boring/annoying (although it's to be expected in a biography about a scientist).
