Dying for Saint-Lô: Hedgerow Hell, July 1944

Rate this book
From 5 to 20 July 1944 American invasion forces ran into fierce resistance around the French town of Saint-Lô, an important railway and road communications center in Normandy. As well as the Heer divisions such as the Panzer Lehr, GIs had to fight the redoubtable paratroopers and Waffen-SS who made them pay a heavy price for each hedgerow and each village they managed to take.

As others have stated, many typos, chapters ending mid sentence, bad grammar. What can you expect from a book written I believe in German first, then translated into French, and then English.

However, what there was written, was not a bad read. And the photos seemed to all be captioned right, mostly.

A weak tree stars…..

Great photos with many in depth photoessays throughout covering mostly German units. The translation is terrible. Much worse than for some of Lodieu’s other books. Bad wven for H&C!!

Florid translations from German to French to English abound. But great photos for modellers and militaria fans.

A very good account of the bloody battle for the Saint-Lo, bocage area. The book is in magazine style with lots of illustrations and good maps. Well writtten (originally in French) altough the typeset is a bit sloppy with bits missing now and then. Seriously recommended.
