This is an approachable and workable guide, for the beginner practitioner or the advanced. As someone who’s been in the game quite a while, I found the spells and rituals really inspiring, and expansive to my practice. I also really enjoyed the ingredients she used, they were the kind of ingredients that resonate with me as well like fresh flowers and fruits with a dash of crafty (Crafty?) creativity.

Although this is a book designed for moon magic, it’s widely applicable to spell work in general. It’s also a fantastic introduction to spell work for someone who’s been hesitant to get started. It’s a motivating book to read, have a journal next to you!

I also enjoyed the way part one introduced the minutia of working with the moon in a very approachable way. For some folks, it can be really intimidating to take into account the phase AND the planetary significance. These sections provided a fantastically written explanation of all of the above, as well as eclipse magic and meditations.

Under the Moon's Spell: A Review of Julia Halina Hadas's Lunar Guide

In "The Modern Witchcraft Book of Moon Magick" by Julia Halina Hadas, readers are invited to explore the enchanting potential of lunar magick to amplify their magickal practices. Hadas, blending her expertise in witchcraft, mixology, and astrology, delivers a comprehensive guide that caters to both novices and seasoned practitioners. The book thoughtfully divides into foundational knowledge of lunar magick and its practical applications, enriched with over 50 spells and rituals for each moon phase.

Hadas shines in demystifying lunar phenomena, offering invaluable insights into celestial events, lunar spellcasting, and the importance of maintaining a Lunar Grimoire. This encourages a reflective magickal practice, emphasizing the significance of documenting one’s journey through the lunar cycles.

However, the text leaves readers longing for more of Hadas's distinctive voice and personal magickal anecdotes. A deeper exploration of the nuanced three-day window surrounding each moon phase, as discussed between me and my friend Nadia, would have added a richer, more personal layer to the guide. Such insights could bridge the gap between instruction and personal experience, offering readers not just knowledge, but a shared journey in moon magick.

"The Modern Witchcraft Book of Moon Magick" is a treasure trove for those seeking to deepen their connection with lunar energies in their magickal workings. While it wonderfully outlines the technical aspects of lunar magick and provides a broad array of spells and rituals, a deeper dive into Hadas's personal magickal insights would have been the cherry on top of this celestial feast.

As a comprehensive resource, this book is invaluable for understanding and utilizing the moon’s influence in witchcraft. It promises to enrich the reader’s practice by weaving lunar mystique into every spell and ritual. I eagerly anticipate future works from Julia Halina Hadas, hoping for more of the personal touch that makes her magick truly come alive.

Very Informative Book

The author provides background information on the origin of astrology and discusses some of the principles set forth by astrology that can be used as celestial guidance to empower spells in witchcraft practice. For example, she states that a practitioner can:
1. Charge water with the energy of a particular astrological event.
2. Rest and rethink during hectic Mercury retrograde.
3. Meditate with the phases of the moon in various signs.
4. Cast a spell in alignment with a certain day of the week, such as Wednesday, to call down the power of the god of communication and planet Mercury.

The author further discusses the astrological elements, in terms of their astrological modalities/elemental expression:
1. Cardinal Energy
2. Fixed Energy
3. Mutable Energy

The author discusses in great depth each zodiac sign, their strengths and challenges, how they can help you achieve certain goals, and how best to capture their energy, and for some signs, you’ll discover the ancient myths of the constellations that help us glean more information about their symbolic, mythic, and magickal power in the cosmos.

The author states that everyone has each of the twelve houses in their birth chart, and with the ever-turning wheel of the night sky, everyone’s houses will capture a different part of the night sky or universe, and thus different constellations. She, further discusses the key themes foe each house, and they are:
1. Sense of Self, Body, Beginnings
2. Associated sign: Aries
3. Associated celestial bodies: Mars
4. Associated element: Cardinal Fire

Julia Halina Hadas has provided much relevant information on moon magick and hoe you can use it to enhance your own craft with the power of the moon. This is a fantastic book, filled with very informative information that beginners and skilled craft workers can benefit from.

I highly recommend this book.

Very interesting read and I especially enjoyed the chapter on Lunar Deities and learning the mythology of the moon in different cultures. Like Chandra, waxing as he grows closer to his favorite star and waning as he leaves her, able to rest for 3 days before repeating the cycle. Or the story of the Aztec goddess, where the moon is believed to be her severed head rolling forever through the sky.

The overwhelming majority of the spellcraft within was delightful and the pages were packed with great ideas. I think as with all books of this nature they definitely could benefit from having a few ppl review the DIY parts so I found a couple instructions that looked really pretty in writing but I was curious to test out for the sake of giving a thorough review. The author was gracious and I communicated those notes along and revised my review.

A lot of wonderful takeaways and it's very comprehensive guide. The chapter on each month's lunar cycle throughout the year and their various names and seasonal activities was another favorite along with all the lunar correspondences throughout the book.

Thank you to the author & publisher for allowing me to read this book early in return for my honest thoughts and review.

This is another great resource. I have been reading all of these witchcraft books that talk about using the moon in your magic, and yet none of them really expand on that. This is THE perfect expansion. I learned so much about the moon and how it translates into astrology, farming, the wheel of the year, crystals, spells, cycles, etc. I am so excited to try all the spells, recipes, and meditations in the back HALF of the book! There is so much here! This is a must-have for my witchy library. Five out of five stars to The Modern Witchcraft Book of Moon Magick!

This is a very interesting book with reasonably detailed practical instructions. It could be that can be little tiresome to read these themes again, but it isn't so because of fresh style of writing and one will learn new facts about Moon also. Just in a few places, little more explanations can be very helpful. If you're into Moons lores and occult teachings this book is highly recommended but it can uplift you very easily so approach with caution!!!

I already work with the moon quite a bit, mainly New & Full moon rituals, but after reading this I feel like I can really deepen my practice and draw more from the moons energy. This book is such a treasure trove for lunar witches, there's so much to take from it. I particularly enjoyed Chapter 7 and Chapter 9. The Modern Witchcraft Book of Moon Magick by Julia Halina Hadas is the perfect book for all the lunar witches out there.

Just like her Book of Astrology, this one starts with an introductory part about the moon cycle and its phases, listing a few moon deities you can work and connect with and giving an overview of the themes of every Full Moon throughout the year.
The second part offers plenty of spells. The author gives suggestions regarding when to perform certain spells (depending on the moon phase or what sign the moon is in), but they are all easy to customise to your needs… You’re actually encouraged to do that, so that you can make your practice more personal.

Part two is FULL of well thought out spells and rituals - most of which are SASS witch friendly.
The appendices are also very helpful.

A must have lunar magick guide for every witch!

This guide contains a vast amount of lunar knowledge, rituals, spells, and magical fun all deftly organized for easy reference - a lunar grimoire at the ready. Author Julia Halina Hadas clearly has expert knowledge on all things moon magick and presents the information in a clear and engaging fashion.

Moon Magick starts with a brief yet informative overview of moon fundaments including history, phases, and special occasions. Then this guide really takes off with a plethora of magical treats that can be devoured at once or simply referenced when needed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of easy-to-perform witchy features from a Mabon Moon Tarot Meditation to a Lunar Lip Scrub to a Moon-Charged Protection Powder to a Solar Eclipse Reflection.
