A GR friend was reading this cookbook and it piqued my interest. I borrowed my copy from the library.

I did not know at the outset that Noom was a diet method, apparently digital.
I liked the introductory pages as they detailed their program’s philosophy, defined calorie density, and explained that their recipes are color assigned based on the density of the dishes.

The nutritional gatherings at the end of the recipes are only for the “base” recipe. If the base has added garnishes or it rests on a bed of salad leaves for example, those parts are not counted in the metric content. I’m in it for the recipes, not the diet, so this does not bother me.

I have a list of what ingredients I need for the recipes that I want to try.

Overall, a good, positive cookbook.

It’s a new year with new health goals, so this cookbook seemed like a good starting point. I have dabbled in the NOOM program previously but plan on recommitting.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘒𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯 begins by giving an overview of their beliefs and values, which focuses on realistic and balanced lifestyle choices and healthful habits. Foods are not “good” or “bad” but are instead color-coded based on nutrient and caloric density; food-shaming is discouraged, moderation is key. After also briefly reviewing important cooking tools, ingredients, and techniques, the book then gets into its collection of recipes, which are color-coded according to their system and divided into the following categories: Breakfast and Brunches, Soups and Salads, Meat and Poultry, Seafood, Vegetarian, Side Dishes, Snacks, and Desserts.

There is a nice breadth and variety of dishes in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘖𝘖𝘔 𝘒𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯, but I wouldn’t say there are any particularly unique or memorable recipes that would make it stand out against other healthy cookbooks. Nonetheless, I think it would make a good resource for anyone on the NOOM program and I look forward to attempting a few of dishes. I am a big fan of seafood and salads, so I will likely start with those!

Thank you to Simon Element and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am not familiar with the noom program and have never used it. There's a brief description of their "philosophy" at the beginning of the book, which is a focus on nutrition density and fiber. This sounded like a good match for me. I'd hoped to get some new ideas...

Overall, I found the recipes too much work! (Note: I am a person who cooks from scratch every single day).

The ingredients lists were very (very) long. For example, there are 18 ingredients in the BLACK BEAN & QUINOA BREAKFAST burritos.

I have been making vegan breakfast for over a decade and do not need 19 different ingredients. The cook time is also 25-35 minutes. One of the reasons I make breakfast burritos is because they only take a couple minutes. It just feels like they made a simple breakfast so hard. The recipe also serves 6. That's quite of breakfast burritos.

Another thing that annoyed me was the recipe-in-a-recipe. Sometimes two recipes were together. For example the Italian wedding soup uses meatballs and the ingredient list and directions for the meatballs is on the same page. However with the Cucumber & Heart of Palm Salad there is the mentioning of a dressing specifically for this salad but it is on another page of the book. There was plenty of white space to include it with the salad and it's not used in another recipe...

As for new ideas, I didn't find many. There might be some if you haven't been cooking or looking at cookbooks or recipes.

Here are some examples of recipes:

breakfast burritos
avocado toast (technically they use a bagel)
chilaqules
granola
chickn noodle soup
smoothies
italian wedding soup
white bean & sausage soup
vegetable soup
tortilla soup
borscht
gumbo
tabbouleh
five-bean salad
BLT
chinese chicken salad
chicken piccata
beef stir-fry
tuna sandwich
shrimp taco

Finally, there aren't a lot of vegan recipes but to be fair, the cookbook doesn't advertise it is vegan or even vegan-friendly. There is a vegetarian section, however, with 8 recipes: cauliflower pizza crust, spiced eggplant steaks, chimichurri cabbage, tofu mango summer rolls, sweet potato shep pie, coconut crusted tofu, broccoli risotto, spinach & feta "hot pockets", veggie patties.

Many of the soups and side dishes could be adapted to be vegan or vegetarian.

I made the cauliflower soup and thought it was clever to use sunflower seeds as the alternative to potatoes or some kind of dairy-cream. If I make it again I think I will swirl in some sunflower seed butter as even with a blendtec, I still felt the soup was a little gritty from the seeds. Perhaps overnight soaking would have helped.

Unfortunately nothing appealed to us except the soup I tried and the Sweet & Spicy Brussel Sprouts however their method of cooking was laborsome and tiring so I just did my usual: put them in the air fryer then tossed them with the "sauce" ingredients. Sadly it was too sweet. I thought 1 tbsp honey (we used maple instead) sounded like a lot on top of gochunung, which already has sugar, but I try not to alter recipes too much when "testing" for a review. I do think I'll dilute gochung with water and toss that over air-fried brussels another time though.

Thanks netgalley for my ARC.

The Noom Kitchen has helped me see food in a different way. The writing is great and easy to read and the dressing recipes are wonderful and full of flavor. I have only done one soup recipe (Creamy Tortilla Soup) which was wonderful and easy to make. This cookbook is one of my favorites and I will definitely be adding this to my rotation of cookbooks I use. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of The Noom Kitchen in exchange for an honest review.

I was excited to read an early copy of this cookbook since I see the Noom advertisements on social media and was really curious to explore this program. What I discovered is a very approachable way of cooking and eating that can help me and you get more healthy! This program is about “getting more nutrients and fewer calories out of every bite, without sacrificing taste or enjoyment”. There are no rules or restrictions, just rethinking how we prepare meals to get maximum balance and nutrition. I was reminded, in this book, that the more water a food contains, the lower it’s calorie density because water adds volume without adding calories making the food more filling. Nothing wrong with almonds, but I can’t eat as many, leaving me unsatisfied. This is NOT rocket science, I get it! But it’s always good to get a reminder and refresh on how we are preparing food and how to feed ourselves to be more healthy!

The Noom program is based on some familiar but powerful and easy to implement reminders such as, “moderation is more sustainable than restriction”, “eating at home is a SUPER STRATEGY”, and all the recipes are “flavor forward” and adaptable for cooks of any skill level. There are helpful guides for stocking the pantry and freezer and what tools are needed in the kitchen.

Now let’s get to the recipes, because they are GOOD! In the breakfast chapter, Chai spiced overnight oats, Black bean and quinoa burritos and Crispy Quinoa granola all all sounded delicious to me. A few of the recipes in Soup and Salad that I can’t wait to try are the Creamy tortilla soup, the Shrimp and Chicken Gumbo, and the Chopped salad with creamy lemon dressing. Meat and Poultry has some intriguing options like Chicken Piccata Pasta, Open Faced Patty Melts, and Grilled Shrimp and Papaya Pasta Salad. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well, such as, Mushroom stuffed lettuce cups, Spinach and feta hot pockets, and Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie. And finally Snacks and Desserts look delicious! I can’t wait to the Cereal Frozen Yogurt bark, Cacio e Pepe popcorn, Vietnamese Iced Coffee Granita and the Mexican Hot Chocolate Fudge Pops!

I think this is going to be a fun and helpful cookbook to enjoy for years to come and I highly recommend to everyone!

Thank you Netgalley, Simon Element and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This cookbook will be available for purchase on January 2, 2024

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Noom Kitchen.

I'm sure you've seen the countless commercials of Noom, the digital health and weight management program that has helped millions lose weight and make the psychological connection between food and behavior change.

When I saw The Noom Kitchen, I was curious to learn more since I'm always looking for ways to improve my eating habits and new, healthy recipes to try.

Wow, was I surprised! But in a good way.

First, there are lots of fun and tasty recipes that anyone can make, even me.

You don't have to be a good cook or a chef, you just need to know how to follow the instructions to make a healthy and satisfying meal.

Second, all the ingredients are easy to find, nothing fancy-schmancy or exotic you need to hunt for.

You can also customize and/or substitute ingredients in the recipe if you're following a certain diet.

Third, I liked most of the recipes and can see myself making quite a few of them.

Fourth, I liked the section on soups and side dishes because I love both.

I don't see many cookbooks that offer a section on soup.

Fifth, and just as important, there are beautiful, in-your-face mouthwatering photos of nearly every recipe!

Always a win-win in any cookbook!

The Noom Kitchen is a valuable cookbook to have in your arsenal.

You don't have to be watching your weight to want to make the recipes, you just have to want to be a healthier YOU!

If you're at all familiar with the Noom program, this book will provide little, if any, new information (though I will admit that 'orange' meals were a new concept for me...).

Overall, I found this book to be disappointing. I was hoping for unique and inspiring new recipes, but most of the ones I saw were either so basic that I question why a recipe is needed (roasted chickpeas), or complex and involving a lot of specialized ingredients (which they promised in the intro would not be the case). And so many salads. Don't get me wrong, I like a good salad, but I don't feel like I need multiple recipes for them. Or to see other recipes outside of the salad section then presented on top of a pile of fresh greens, looking suspiciously like another... salad! Surprise!

I also found it odd that they chose to include an assortment of cooking tips in a section at the beginning of the book, many of which would only apply to one recipe. Example: how to wrap bananas in rice paper for the banana loti recipe, included in the final chapter on desserts. Why not include such things closer to the recipe itself so that the reader does not have to page back & forth?

I feel like the ARC was missing a key accessibility feature in that nowhere did I see color indicators for any of the recipes. I could not easily page through the book to find green meals, for example. I even looked to make sure I wasn't missing a label somewhere that was in black & white but indicated the meal color category, but nope. This will likely not be a problem with the final published version, but it's hard to evaluate the book when I can't use one of the features that is core to their philosophy/approach to eating and a major selling point to the book.

Note: I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this title from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.

Like it for the recipes and photos. Tend to eat like this anyway, the "Noom" program not significant for this patron.

Really like the Tandoori shrimp recipe!

Others look tasty, most provide nice inspiration. Would not make the full "Spiced Eggplant Steaks" with cucumber relish, but might pair that idea with a light version of the Teriyaki salmon?

That Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie is a cool concept also. However, there's no meat, so it's not Shepherd's Pie, any more than its Moussaka. Which highlights one of the issues with this cookbook, that is, the recipe names and categories often mislead as to what's in the dish and what it might be used for.

The "Shepherd's Pie" topping combines sweet potatoes, cauliflower, butter and eggs, sounds yummy! Over a mushroom-based veggie mix, so wow, but who would ever find this fab veggie dish under the moniker "Shepherd's Pie" and be happy?

Similarly, "Spinach and Feta Hot Pockets" are a version of Spanakopita, - that for some reason add zucchini. Well, "Hot Pockets" doesn't scream yummy Greek to this reader, at least.

This seems a shame, because the recipes are interesting and worth a look. But confounding for someone who wants to open the book and choose something to make without a dedicated reading hour.

Even with that 'dedicated reading hour', this falls short as a serious/reference cookbook.

The prep times are unrealistic, especially if the chef plans to craft the presentation as in the photos. (15 minutes to gather ingredients, chop 7 veggies, lightly toss in butter, fry two eggs, and plate the whole thing? Maybe on a TV show where a sous chef prepped everything into cute little glass dishes first...)

The Contents listings are oddly organized, with the reader having to guess - is that recipe a brunch item or vegetarian? Is it side dish or snack? What was the full name again?

The Index is just okay, but even it uses different names under different listings for the same recipes. (e.g. the Chickpeas header lists Fluffy Hummus Four Ways, the Hummus header lists just Hummus, with the same page numbers.)

One more weakness ... the main pages don't consistently face a relevant photo. So Spiced Eggplant Steaks, for example, is confusingly laid out next to a picture of ... cauliflower, making it appear as a misprint - are pages missing? Even moving the short eggplant pic from the next page would have helped orient the reader. The recipe runs onto another page, so why wasn't that layout fixed?

Overall this is nice as a photo book and source of inspiration and a few recipes. As a proper cookbook it needs fixes in several areas.
---
Visited the book again to try a recipe (Tandoori Shrimp, p. 159), and found more than a few issues.

It explains carefully to "place wood skewers in a rimmed bowl..." but shortcuts "Grill the shrimp, close the grill".
Specifies "Use the remainder of the dressing to..." Except the dressing hasn't been used at all yet.
An arguably vital resource, cooking spray, isn't listed in the ingredients.
The ingredients are presented inconsistently, 1/4 teasp0on of this, and freshly grated that - 2 teaspoons...
More offputting choices - the ingredients call for "cayenne". It likely intended "cayenne pepper" but cayenne seasoning mixes are pretty common also.
The exact ingredients of a cayenne spice mix can vary, but common components include:
Cayenne pepper: Provides the signature heat.
Paprika: Adds sweetness and color.
Garlic powder: Contributes a savory, aromatic quality.
Onion powder: Adds a pungent onion flavor.
Black pepper: Enhances the overall pepperiness.
Salt: Balances and enhances the flavors.
Other ingredients: Some blends may also include dried oregano, thyme, cumin, or red pepper flakes for added complexity. (source: Google AI)
Would the word "pepper" have really been that much effort to include?

The headings - "Grill the shrimp" simply says get the grill hot. The next instruction item is then to PREPARE the shrimp for grilling. It's just sloppy work.

These bits are nothing that can't be overcome or managed, but as a cookbook, having to rewrite and correct things isn't worth the time for these recipes. An experienced cook will want to glance at ingredients, see if they need anything, scan the steps, and get going. A novice will want more direction (or notes) than "grill the shrimp" and "the dressing" - the dressing for what? The shrimp or the greens?

Its also unreasonable, this is a diet cookbook, they add an olive-oil-honey dressing to greens that will already have well-seasoned tandoori shrimp on top. Why add the extra fat and sugar? Oh, and be sure not to simply prepare the greens before the shrimp are completely cooked. The steps are very clear (eye roll).

The recipe titles do appeal, the photos are great, but look online for other chefs' ingredients and instructions. The content is not up to par.

Yeah.

Did not know this was a “global phenomenon.”

If you’ve followed my reviews, I love to read cookbooks from cover to cover. The introduction or prologue always sets the tone for me. This intro read like it was AI generated. There was no warmth, no wit, no hominess.

Like I said, it really set the tone so I wasn’t too receptive to the recipes that followed.

What I did like were some of the breakfast recipes like the Chai-Spiced Overnight Oats and the Quinoa Granola. I’ve made the overnight oats twice now. I love the flavor but I did have to tweak the recipe some by adding another tablespoon of chia seeds and changing the instructions a bit. (I also used Penzey’s Baking Spice instead of cinnamon, ginger and cardamom.) I put the entire concoction in a glass dish instead of individual jars. I was worried about the ratio of oats to almond milk.I really like this hack and just dish out what I want each morning.

This photo was taken before I added another tablespoon of chia seeds to absorb some of the liquid.

I also want to try the salad dressings (conveniently all in one place on four pages) and referenced in the individual salad recipes. The Hummus Four Ways (plainish, w/cauliflower, w/beets, and with jalapenos) will also be tried soon.

I felt like I’d seen the soup section before. Nothing remarkable. The Surprise Chopped Salad with Creamy Dressing was interesting with lots of chopped veggies and a topping of pomegranate. But again I thought I had seen a lot of these before: Chinese Chicken Salad, a BLT salad with avocado added.

Nothing really inspiring in the Meat & Poultry section.

There is a vegetarian section. The spiced eggplant steaks looked remarkably like the cover of Ottolenghi’s Plenty. In “Sides,” there was nothing earth shattering—asparagus with grated egg, Za’atar roasted carrots….

I feel like I’ve been kind of a pill lately when it comes to book reviews so take my rant with a gain of salt. I’m sure the recipes are delicious and they definitely take some old favorites and make them healthier. I’m really not sure why Noom and I just didn’t click.

Maybe if I had been a Noomer I would be more impressed.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Element for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Noom diet has been highly advertised for their app and new take on dieting but not something I was super familiar with. The cookbook opens with a quick synapsis of the program focusing on caloric density and nutritional density. Each of the recipes that follow are color coded as to where they fit on this scale. There is also a list of foods and utensils that will be included in the book as well as some instructions on basic cooking techniques (how to poach an egg, make a granita, etc). The categories cover all the basics from breakfast to desserts. It included a nice section on vegetarian which I liked and was not just a list of salads. The selection of recipes were not over the top unique but they did look and sound delicious. Each one includes an ingredient list, detailed instructions, nutritional facts and a beautiful picture. I have tried a couple of the options and they did not disappoint and will be adding a few more to our rotation. I am not sure this cookbook sold me on the diet program but it is a nice addition to people who are looking for healthy recipes to add to their repertoire.

This is a fine cookbook. I appreciated that every recipe has a photo and that detailed nutritional information is provided. The recipes are pretty heavy on animal products, though there is a vegetarian chapter. While they focus on healthy dishes, not everyone is going to agree on what healthy means. I don’t really consider turkey bacon or oat milk particularly healthy for instance though they are certainly healthier than a drive through burger), but these swaps are presumably included because the authors do. There are a fair number of gluten free recipes and it’s fairly easy to adapt others. Dairy free people will find fewer recipes but there are some. Vegans will not find much here. Many recipes are low carb but not keto, and paleo people will find a lot of grains, beans and other verboten foods. Those who are fairly new to homemade, whole food cooking and don’t have special dietary needs will probably enjoy it.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.

I was really interested in reviewing this cookbook, I have been constantly hearing advertisements about this company. I even tried the free trial for the app, but it wasn't super memorable and did not want to pay for it. So I had some familiarity on what the cookbook could be. I did read the introduction and I think there was a really good break down on how they help you lose weight. Each recipes is ranked for calorie density. Most of the recipes are very unique and I liked the organization of it. Each recipe has an image and very clear instructions. Overall pretty good if you are using their program already and a nice cookbook for someone looking to lose weight. I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have been for several years now looking for a way to lose the weight. I have talked with my doctor and she said with exercise and a better plan to eat healthier, that I should see the result. In the past I had tried everything and even got interested in doing Noom. But I was a little hesitant like many because so many other options were failures for me. This is where The Noom Kitchen comes into play. I found several recipes that I could adapt into my healthier lifestyle and I am proud to say that I have lost even a few pounds since reading this book. It has helped me understand what I was doing wrong in the kitchen and how to even modify for my food allergies. I will be purchasing this book next year to add to my cookbook collection and use it more than I do the others.

The Noom Kitchen cookbook, showcasing 100 healthy and flexible recipes, is a commendable addition to the culinary world. Each recipe is accompanied by beautiful photographs, adding visual appeal. While some recipes may not align with personal taste preferences, the focus on incorporating "green foods" – nutritionally dense ingredients – is a noteworthy aspect. The book's commitment to putting a healthy twist on familiar favorites and providing portable, storable options for on-the-go eating demonstrates its practical approach. Whether you're an avid Noom user or a newcomer, The Noom Kitchen offers accessible culinary guidance for anyone seeking to prioritize health and wellness in their kitchen endeavors.

I'm not familiar with the Noom program, but based on this, it may make sense. It focuses on nutrient rich foods, emphasizing flavor. These recipes were good for everyday, have general appeal and easy to find ingredients, and complete nutritional information. I found the breakfasts (Italian strata, avo toast) and seafood and poultry to be the strongest areas here. Some of the recipes are long, or take longer than I'd like to spend during the week. There is one sheet pan dinner, but otherwise things like the crockpot and pressure cooker/instapot are not included.

If you're trying to cook healthy, this is worth checking out. They also have some good salad dressings, and I liked that while it's a health-conscious cookbook, they don't include a lot of artificial ingredients.

As someone who has used the Noom program in the past, this book is what I had expected. The program is designed to show you how to make healthier choices and still enjoy what you’re eating. This followed suit with an assortment of recipes such as Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream, and B.L.A.T. (Turkey Bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato).

This would appeal to anyone who loves cookbooks and is interested in eating healthier.
It has recipes that are very simple to follow. Time length of recipes also range from quick to a little more involved.

This book is packed full of recipes. I have always seen the commercials for Noom, so thought I would give this one a try. You get some insight into how their program works with the Noom 101 section. A big plus for me is photos, I need to see what I’m cooking, and this book gives you that! Some recipes I’m excited to try are the Ultimate Vegetable Soup, Lemon Pepper & Parm Chicken Salad, Lentils and Greens with Roasted Tomatoes, Grilled Shrimp & Papaya Salad, Tandoori Shrimp, Glazed Squash with Hazelnuts, and Vanilla Pudding.

I took my time to make sure I could test all the recipes in this book, and see if they were as good as they looked. They did not disappoint, and they also help both me and my Husband lose a little weight too. Noon is more a readjustment of your attitude to food, rather than a diet, and this is apparent in the recipes. the pictures are colorful and represent the dishes accurately.

I'd definitely recommend this book, and will be purchasing a couple for friends who I know will get a lot of use out of it.

I didn't know anything about Noom before reading this cookbook. The Noom Kitchen is really informative. Though this cookbook didn't sell me on the diet program. I did try a few recipes and they were OK. I love the many photos showing yummy food. There's a variety of recipes to choose from. Overall, Nothing really sticks out in this book for me. It's worth renting from the library. The recipes are easy to follow, but they were hit or miss with me.

A beautiful cookbook with pictures of every recipe. That's a must for me. Very colorful as well. I don't follow the Noom method and I don't even know what it is but I saw the cookbook at my library and I can't resist a cookbook with beautiful pictures! The majority of the recipes did not seem too complicated for someone who has some experience in the kitchen. They really break the recipes down into very do-able steps. Some of the recipes had some obscure ingredients but I would probably find substitutes anyway. All in all a very good cookbook

After watching this program gain in popularity, I decided to try it. The principles are sound, diets don't work if you don't change your eating habits. The recipes are great and easy to follow, you don't feel deprived or have to keep a seperate pantry for the diet. And it works. Try it for yourself. This book gives some clear guidance on establishing and maintaining your diet program. It makes it much easier and clearer what to expect from the start.

The recipes in this book are beautifully illustrated, give specific nutritional information, and look very tasty. They emphasize fruits and vegetables. Whole grains and lean protein. Some are simple. Some quite elaborate.
There’s a catch to this cookbook. If you aren’t dieting, you would be unlikely to try these recipes. And the cookbook itself is overpriced, aimed at consumers using Noom.
I read through quickly, curious about what it contained. Now I’ll see if I actually cook through it!

Loved this cookbook! It had easy to follow instructions, bright pictures, and all the nutritional information you could want. I love that it explained Noom and how there are no good or bad goods and how everything depends on moderation. There was a very handy section of techniques that explained some of the trickier concepts. I also liked how the ingredients were fresh ingredients, not a lot of canned or frozen things. Overall a great cookbooks with a ton of recipes looking forward to using.

Like most cookbooks, this collection is a combination of hit and miss. Some of the recipes were on the easier side, with few ingredients. Many others were more intricate and contained more ingredients than a recipe needs. The Noom philosophy was new to me so I enjoyed learning about it. Overall, I walked away with some new recipes but don’t believe this was the book for me.
