A teatime recipe book inspired by the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and also including content from Fantastic Beasts. There are 4 chapters, which include sugary treats, savory snacks, candies, and beverages. Each recipe has a bit of background on the movie which inspired the recipe, and also included are some behind the scenes snippets, and quotes from the movies, along with photos from the movies and of many of the recipes. While I will probably never attempt any of the recipes from the first 2 chapters of this book, I am interested to try a few of the candy and beverage recipes. A beautiful recipe book I will be happy to add to my cookbook shelf upon completion of my kitchen.
I appreciate the time it takes for compiling recipes that would represent the wizarding world, but sometimes I feel like recipes are a bit too complicated in these compilations. I did enjoy how it pulled photos and inspiration for these bites from Fantastical Beasts. But I would have liked more pictures of the recipes made. Some recipes had me scratching my head trying to figure out what it was. I may try 'Luna Lovegood's Honey-Roasted Radish Salad' though :)
What drew me to this book on the library shelf are the gold flourishes on the cover, and the words "Afternoon Tea Magic." The food photography in this book is beautiful! And, the behind-the-scenes film anecdotes interwoven with the recipes are fun. I wish they added a skill level to the recipes, since many of them look unapproachable to a baking novice like me 🫣 I haven't had a chance to try any of them, so the rating is based solely on the book content.
The little descriptions and tid bits on the inspirations for the recipes were so fun! There’s really only 1 recipe that doesn’t sound great. Everything else I’d love to try to make! Be warned though!! You will need quite a few specialty items/pans/equipment to make some of these.
Most of the recipes are straight forward in their cooking instructions. However the decoration is very complicated. As far as the writing, the book is so cute the tie ins are amazing and effective. In love this and can't wait to throw the related party.
This is an interesting selection of recipes seen or inspired by scenes in the Harry Potter movies. There is quite a range of difficulty with some quite simple and some requiring more specific skills or supplies. There were a couple recipes I thought were kind of odd choices but overall its a nice selection. This is geared towards older fans and does include some alcoholic beverages so that is something to take note of depending on who you are planning to cook for or with.
While the thought behind the book was cute, I didn’t particularly get half of the recipes since I’ve never seen Fantastic Beasts. I wish there was a Harry Potter cookbook that had recipes to make items from Honeydukes or from the movies and books but I have yet to find one that’s pretty accurate or has them all.
Got this from the library as I refuse to support the trash that is JK Rowling. Sorry to these authors, but since this is official merch, she gets a cut. The recipes are cute, but long. Be prepared to spend some time with these as they are not simple recipes.
Perfect for Potter fans and those loving afternoon tea. We loved it and spent quite some time thumbing through to pick what they were going to make! Win Win all round.
