Liv tries out for the Gloomsdale Elementary Ghoul Squad in this second book in the Spirited graphic novel chapter book series.
Liv Livingston feels she’s finally found her footing in her new school—even the bat hall monitors at Gloomsdale Elementary don’t screech at her as much! But when Liv’s new friend Vera asks her to try out for the Ghoul Squad with her, she’s not sure it’s her crowd. The members are pretty daunting with their matching uniforms and constant spelling of words—particularly the leader, Astrid, who isn’t very nice. Still, Liv doesn’t want to lose Vera’s friendship. Can she get through tryouts without spelling D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R?
I read the first book in the series this year and enjoyed. Liv is the only human at her school, everyone else is a ghost with a vampire and werewolf thrown in. She has to learn how to navigate the different classes along with having to deal with certain cliques. When there is an opening on Ghoul Squad her friend, Vera is super excited to tryout. Liv is worried that if she gets the spot it will change her spot. Again this was a solid graphic novel and the spooky elements work well for me. I think I preferred book 1 but I still recommend this one and the series.
Such a cute series! I wasn't too excited to read volume 2 just because it was dealing with cheerleaders and they are normally not my favorite people. But it really surprised me! I really enjoyed the character development and some of the lessons throughout this volume. The next one doesn't come out for a little while but I will definitely pick that up!
I love their friendship here! so adorable 🥰 Liv and Vera tryout for the school's cheerleader (Ghoul Squad) 😆 this also tells about Liv's fear of losing friends. AND DONT FORGET ABOUT Liv's family <33 They are very fun and understanding 🥺 so cutieee
School isn't easy. And it's even harder when you're the only living person in a school filled with ghosts (vampires, swamp creatures, and werepups). But it's even harder to be the first human and vampire to try out for the Ghoul Squad (they haven't had a new member in 12 years). But when Liv and her vampire friend Vera decide to try out, Liv has a lot of worries to deal with and remembering the cheer could be the least of them! Humorous and cute, this graphics novel is a fun new series (read book one first). Read via an online reader.
'This is...painful to watch. And I don't even feel pain! I'm a skeleton!'
Ah so not as funny and entertaining as the first volume, Day of the Living Liv, but I still enjoyed it! I guess it's more to do with the plot than anything else but I do appreciate that they chose to stop/deal with the whole mean girl/girl-on-girl hate here. At least I hope with the way things turned out and with Liv making more friends. My favorite part was easily the Skelly Crew reporting live about the Ghoul Squad tryouts LOL. I do wonder how Liv's parents don't realize they're the only humans in Gloomsdale, though. 👀
As for the art, still the perfect vibes for a comic series set in a ghost town. Liv's purple hair is just the best choice and Howl remains the cutest werepuppy.
Go, Ghoul, Go! is my first book in the series where Liv finds herself as the only human in a school full of ghosts, a vampire and a werewolf. When a spot opens up on the Ghoul Squad, Liv's best friend Vera wants to try out. To help her with try outs she pushes Liv to try out too even though Liv doesn't want to make the squad. With themes of acceptance, kindness and resilience, Go, Ghoul, Go! shows that friendships can make school a better place to be. I thought the graphics were well done, the text easy to follow and the book a quick paced read.
Thank you Simon Kids for the gifted copy to review.
What a cute graphic novel! Go, Go, Ghoul! is volume 2 in the Spirited series and there’s enough recap to read this one without having read the previous book. I loved the characters and the illustrations throughout this graphic novel. This volume follows Liv as she supports her friend Vera in trying out for the ghoul squad. This was a great middle grade graphic novel that and I think kids will find the characters and scenarios relatable. I’m loving the Spirited series so far and can’t wait to read more volumes.
This is a super cute kinda spooky Young Reader Graphic Novel Series. I simply adore the cast of characters and love that it touches base on subjects that may be harder for younger readers to understand. The first book talked about being the new kid in school/town and the second talks about anxiety. I highly recommend this to Young Readers who want something a little spooky but not scary. Perfect for fans of Monster High
I enjoy this series - spooky fun without being scary. While it's stated that they are in elementary school, there are lots of middle school concepts that will appeal to elementary readers without more "mature" MS content. In this second book, Liv's friend Vera wants to try out for the "Ghoul Squad" but wants Liv to join her for moral support. I liked how the friends had to work through each of their own feelings to support each other. Probably most appealing to 2nd-4th grade readers.
The humor in this book was so top tier. Our lovely trio of friends has now gotten more comfortable with each other and with coming out of their shells at school! I really enjoyed the message of what it means to support a friend.
Not as good as the first volume but still a fun read! Liv and her vampire friend tryout for the schools cheer squad. Looking forward to reading the next volume.
Cheerleading! But now with ghosts! And annoying bullies (Seriously, can that one just go away). This was oodles of fun to read and I cannot wait to read the next one! I really love the art and our MC is a fun one and I love seeing her get more comfortable in her new school~ Oh, and I find it hilarisch a human family got to live in a town like this and how oblivious her parents are. :)
