After the Demon Lord is slain at the hands of a lone human warrior, humans rejoice over the end of his reign of terror. But an intense tournament of powerful fighters hoping to be crowned the next Demon Lord has drawn in the unlikeliest of contestants—Helck, who claims to hate humans but is one himself! How will Helck change the course of the war between demons and humankind?
The powered-up human army and the Empire’s soldiers continue to clash in a destructive war. Azudra faces off against the Great Sage Mikaros while Winged Soldiers show up to confront Helck and Vermilio. When Helck hesitates, Vermilio stands her ground and takes matters into her own hands!
I'm finally getting back to Helck after a while. This volume continues the journey after we learned of the backstory of Helck in the previous volume. Quite a tragic backstory that was. Helck started out a comedy. There are still comedic moments sprinkled in between this volume, but you definitely get the sense that things are becoming much more serious. And I'm thoroughly enjoying it. One thing I've noticed in anime/manga that are typically comedic is that when they decide to have some serious moments, those moments really hit hard. And that is true for Helck.
4.5/5 The end of this volume is just trying to rip my heart out. I often get confused with some of the fights in Helck but the character moments are amazing. The growth in Helck and Vermilio's friendship is on full display in this volume and it is amazing.
This volume had a blend of everything. Top notch action, heartfelt moments and sacrifice, friendship and bonds strengthening, it was all their. It bounced around to the various characters well and gave each story segment some much needed attention. This series is really hitting its stride now.
