I don’t know whether to cry, smile, or do both. I can’t wait for the 6th volume to come out!

This slice of life manga has a nice and easy pace that I've enjoyed. I now look forward for every new release because it's both relaxing and entertaining.
Volume 5 has our two leads going on that planned club trip to photograph the night sky, and with the planning, and requesting permission, the story has begun peel the layers of our characters, and peek into what could have caused their insomnia.
The volume ends on a cliffhanger after the female lead took the initiative to change the nature of her relationship with the male lead. Don't get me wrong, but they have what can only be described as a "pure romance". I can't wait to see what happens next in the sixth volume.

“Truly amazing photographs are taken when you find something that moves you from within all of that. When the thrill of the moment presses the shutter for you".
Creo que es en este tomo cuando ya se empieza a ver una mayor profundidad en los personajes desde un punto de vista interno. Al mismo tiempo siento que es un tomo que destaca más por el dibujo, que no me cansaré de decirlo, es precioso, y los lugares que quieren fotografiar. Eso sí el final de este tomo es muy tierno y se puede ver que puede haber drama futuro, pero no creo que sea tan exagerado como otros mangas.

The summer heat brings a club trip to get some pictures in the countryside, chaperoned by Isaki’s sister. But, as the days roll on, Isaki and Nakami find themselves on their own and more vulnerable than ever before.
This is not slice of life, it’s the whole damn pie.
I absolutely adore this series and how loudly quiet it is. The moments in this series, when they happen, are like nothing else I’ve enjoyed in manga and they have this feel of young love to them that trumps anything in a supposedly more straightforward shojo.
Isaki staring at Nakami’s back, soaked with sweat, is just a couple of panels, but you can see how it means more to her than just what she’s seeing. The photo that Nakami takes with the cherry blossoms, too. It’s all gorgeous.
And then it doesn’t forget to be well written on top of that. Haya, Isaki’s sister, is a pretty great big sister, but that doesn’t mean she’s necessarily come by that position deliberately. There’s definitely some resentment from her over being the “healthy one” who nobody cares about.
But she sees straight through both of these two and their burgeoning relationship, even if Nakami is quick to blow off that confession from earlier (see if you blow off the ending to this volume, Nakami!) as just a friend being a friend.
This story is such an amazing piece of work from a very basic concept. Sure, it might be obvious writing to have both of them have insomnia, but for two very different and opposite reasons, but making it work takes skill. Nakami’s big moment of honesty here is heartfelt as heck.
And when Haya zips off to see her boyfriend, the whole thing turns shockingly domestic and you see our leads being themselves and simply hanging out like, well, a married couple and it’s just quiet moment after quiet moment of two people who are intently comfortable together.
I guess if you want high drama and action this isn’t your book. It is absolutely the sort of thing I could eat three times a day and it has so much going on underneath that what looks simple and understated is anything but.
5 stars - amazing in every facet and a true gem. Far and away the best ongoing romance I have right now.

Atmospheric. That's the word I've been looking for that I haven't quite found yet for this series. For as quiet and gentle as the story is, the art is atmospheric and ethereal. Everyone should read this for the break it gives you from the noise around us.

This newest installment of the series was so sweet! I loved seeing just Nakami and Isaki together, even if Isaki's very annoying sister Haya tagged along. This was very sweet and was such a quick read, I was surprised when I got to the end! And that ending!! :3 Excited to read the next one!

Not a complaint, but they've kind of moved past the whole 'Insomniacs' part of the title at this point.
Should just be called 'After School' maybe.

I have blasted through all the available books in this series in two days so this is a generic, overall (spoiler free) review of the series.
I have never really enjoyed manga preferring books, light novels and anime but the first 2 episodes of this show caught my eye so I decided to try it and I am very glad I did.
I have found the manga to be easy to follow and enjoyable so far (up to book 9).
I was worried this was going to be another story that goes no where and stagnates but I feel fairly confident now in saying this series has a set plot path and destination and there was more story development in the first 4 books than most Japanese media I have read/ seen have in their entire series.
The two MCs are interesting with you learning about them as they learn about each other - what feels mostly natural and a good pace. The story has been really good - exactly what I was hoping for more. The side characters feel like they're actually there and real people and also have their own small plots going on (I find some stories have side characters because they have to but with minimal effort put into them where this is not the case here). The art work is really nice and I've never had an interest in photography before but all of a sudden I find myself wishing my camera phone was a lot more camera: The story draws you in and makes you interested.
There's no fan service, no repetition or bad jokes, the story doesn't feel forced or slowed down (to please the readers or the publishers), the scenes, settings relationships and plot feels realistic and it's all well told and well drawn.
If this series keeps going as well as it is then it could take over as my favourite story in the light novel, anime, manga area for me.
All in all I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in slice of life/ romance.

Volume super interessante!
Ganta e Isaki partono per il ritiro estivo del club estivo, accompagnati dalla sorella maggiore della ragazza. Il raduno diventa l'occasione giusta per migliorare il livello qualitativo delle fotografie scattate da Ganta, in modo da avere qualche possibilità di vittoria al concorso di astrofotografia. Il ragazzo è veramente determinato e il suo interesse cresce giorno dopo giorno. Inoltre, il ritiro permetterà ai due protagonisti di vivere sotto lo stesso tetto per qualche giorno e di condividere tutto. E i loro sentimenti diventano sempre più chiari.
Il punto di vista di Haya, sorella maggiore di Isaki, getta un po' di luce sul legame tra le due, sulla loro infanzia, sulla malattia. Ganta, dal canto suo, si confida e finalmente scopriamo qualcosa di più circa le ragioni dietro la sua insonnia - un'angoscia davvero terribile per una persona così giovane, la paura del domani. Un'ansia che probabilmente ha le sue radici nel trauma dell'abbandono, con la madre che se ne è andata di casa in piena notte quando lui era solo un bambino. Un'ansia che non riesce a condividere con il padre, forse per non creare problemi. Isaki è l'unica persona con cui riesce a confidarsi (e non dimentichiamo che la ragazza ha fatto lo stesso con lui un paio di volumi fa), segno evidente del tipo di rapporto che si sta venendo a creare tra i due. E Isaki...beh, prende coraggio e fa il primo passo.
Adesso mi leggo subito il volume numero 6 perché voglio vedere come prosegue la cosa e la reazione di Ganta al suo primo bacio. Comunque sia, questa serie riesce a trattare com grande delicatezza temi molto profondi. Brava mamma J-Pop!

Pour le concours photo, Ganta et Magari vont partir en voyage quelques jours dans la maison de la grand-mère de Magari. Avec Madame Kurashiki, ils demandent l'autorisation des leurs parents respectifs. Ils finissent par être accompagnés par la grande soeur de Magari, Haya (au grand désarroi de Magari). On apprend rapidement par le père de Ganta que sa mère les a abandonnés pendant la nuit il y a des années (ce qui expliquerait le fait qu'il soit insomniaque).
Quand ils arrivent, ils se mettent à vivre ensemble paisiblement et à aller prendre des photos de nuit. Haya explique qu'elle s'entend mal avec sa soeur à cause du fait que tout le monde prenait en pitié Magari à cause de ses problèmes cardiaques et que tout le monde s'en préoccupait (à son détriment).
Ganta explique qu'il n'a pas pitié de Magari et qu'elle est un exemple pour lui. Haya va rejoindre son copain. Ganta et Magari restent à deux et poursuivent leur séjour encore plus paisiblement.
Ganta se confie sur ses angoisses et Magari l'embrasse.

Astronomy Club camping trip to get some (hopefully) award-winning astrophotography. A stroke of good luck finds Ganta and Isaki using her grandmother's house as a home base (which saves money and time) and Isaki's sister as a chaperone (who almost immediately bails).
So a good bit of this book is just Ganta and Isaki being wholesome together. And we also get to see a possible source of Ganta's trauma and how that manifested into anxiety induced insomnia. That's... that's rough buddy.
I'm going to call it now, I'm going to cry at some point in this series. I can just feel it.

This series is just wonderful! I really enjoyed the interactions between not just Gan and Isaki, but Gan and Haya as well. Which is funny, because I was initially irritated that she was chaperoning their trip. Learning more backstory about our two leads in these last few volumes, has made me like them even more! This series is such a comfort read, I love it so much! I am not going to spoil anything, but something I had been waiting for finally happened this volume and got the beautiful two page spread it deserved! I’ll be starting Volume 6 immediately. Though I may take my time since Volume 7 doesn’t come out until September 17th. <3
