This award-winning book is reader friendly and has drawn national and international praise because of it's revolutionary ideas on natural hormone replacement. Many conditions felt to be incurable can be eliminated by treating the cause. A doctor spends approximately 4 minutes, on average, with his/her patient. That is not anywhere close to quality health care. I wish every doctor had Dr. Platt’s medical philosophies, which mostly involve listening to his patients then becoming an investigator to get to the bottom of the issues. I gave this book four stars because I was hoping to read more about supplemental support, such as Vitamin E. There is one page that lists it as a necessary supplement to avoid prostate cancer in men but I was hoping to read more about its efficacy for women.
Informative book on the use of bio-identicals. He is very pro-progesterone. I appreciated the way his chapters were organized, but was annoyed that he used so much anecdotal information. I would have appreciated more 'data'.
Took some good notes on hormones from this book. Also gave it to a friend who's son has ADHD at an extreme level. She was very interested in seeing if progesterone could help her son.
I am pretty skeptical anytime I read pop-medicine type books. However, I had already begun the path of discovering bio-identical hormones with my own doctor. Reading through this book enlightened me to a variety of issues that are directly related to hormonal imbalances. I appreciated the testimonials that the Dr. Platt provided, but was also saddened by the suffering of the individuals through their treatments by other well-meaning, but uninformed doctors. Makes me even more thankful for my own osteopathic doctor!
He has a lot of good arguments for his methods. The personal stories from patients seemed to me all written very similarly, so I feel less inclined to believe the miracle transformations. However I do think he’s onto something when it comes to the healthcare system in general and a different approach to treating patients. The argument for hormones seems pretty solid, but I think I will be doing a bit more research. Definitely a book to make you think more critically about how you approach your own health.
Very informative book about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Easy to read and understand the how and why of imbalanced hormones. And how to find relief.
I have such a hard time with books that assert that they can fix ALL of your problems - not that it's not true - but I am a skeptic. So, I didn't get past the intro...maybe someday.
I enjoyed reading the book, however way too many patient stories and not enough information on bio identical hormones. I did not learn much reading / this book
