Playing With Reality-Review
I consider Molly as a friend and I have tried to be as unbiased as possible.
When I got to know that Molly had published her books, I decided that I must read her book. After winning a contest that Salamasunny had organised, I requested her to send a copy of ‘Playing with Reality’. Within a month, the book was in my hands. Here is what I felt:
Playing with Reality is written under Felix’s point of view- a girl whose life changes after her friend’s party. Her life changes so does her priorities-- and eating habits. She feels she is drifting away from her family.
The plot was morbid yet fascinating. Felix’s voice was clear and original. The bond between the two sisters was brought out well. Even her attachment to Electra was kind of a surprise to me but it was pleasant. Damien was remarkable. The romantic scenes between him and Felix were very vivid and passionate. He was strong and powerful and very nicely described. I liked Evie and Juliet too- though I felt they were both similar. I am looking forward to read about Libby and Lucas actually.
The writing is simple and easy to understand. It had me hooked and to tell the truth, I was busy turning pages eager to know what happened next- which I never felt like doing while I read other books. The style isn’t stiff and the way with which it flows appears effortless.
At times, I was reminded of Twilight but Molly has painted a vivid and brilliant picture with words. The descriptions and the dialogues are enjoyable. To be able to connect the episodes; describe characters, Felix’s thoughts and the settings properly- is a big achievement considering that Molly wrote the book at the age of 14 while most of the adults themselves fail to juggle these aspects.
It’s a good book- worth reading. I urge all those out there to buy a copy of this book and read it. I am sure they will love it. Talent needs to be encouraged.
Playing with Reality was a riveting and charming experience that made me thirst for more. I can’t wait to read the other two novels in the series!
