Nicola Yeager is a writer and book reviewer. After several years working as a journalist for a variety of publications, she started writing novellas. Her first in the chick lit genre, The Spa Day, was a critical success and an Amazon best seller. She followed this up with Picture Imperfect, which continued the gritty, witty, first person style of her debut and was also a best seller. After two novellas, she produced three full length novels 'Summer Loving' and 'Miss Match'. Her latest eBook, A Recipe for Love, 'could not have been completed without the help of industrial quantities of Waitrose Mocha Blend ground coffee and spending lots of time looking at online shopping sites.'
Although born in Lincoln, she has lived in London for over a dozen years and lives with her husband and two children. Her hobbies include swimming and slimming!!
Picture Imperfect by Nicola Yeager is a contemporary novella that's not so much romance but a focus on a relationship. Chloe Dixon is a struggling artist with a part time job to help bring in income when her art isn't selling that has settled into a relationship with her boyfriend Mark.
One night Mark comes home excited after having run into an old friend and having been invited on a trip to Greece. The problem with the trip? Chloe is not invited but two other women are. Mark's sudden departure gives Chloe the opportunity to really this about her imperfect relationship.
Being novella length you can expect the normal there's not a lot of depth to the story when it moves so quickly. However, the author did a good job giving the reader just enough info to move the story forward and be on the same page with Chloe throughout. And I actually did like the end of this one and thought it was worth the quick read.
This was one I read literally to fill a letter in a reading challenge I was in. I had never heard of it or the author. And honestly, it was a little boring.
Chloe is a struggling painter who's boyfriend of two years decides to go on a vacation without her - but with an old high school friend and two random women. And of course, he just expects her to be ok with this. And in the beginning she it. But as time goes by, the resentment festers until it controls her mind - but the good thing about this? She creates some amazing paintings.
I think the author was trying to go for a girl power sort of story where the girl realizes that she's better off without the man and she can do it on her own. But all of that was lost because all Chloe did was complain. It was page after page of whining and complaining about her life. Yes, she ultimately takes control but not after everything is pretty much handed to her.
Thank God this was short because I don't think I could have listed to Chloe's inner dialogue anymore. The one amusing thing in this was her art manager - she was hilarious.
Picture Imperfect by Nicola Yeager is a delightful read from start to finish. I'm a guy, and I'm not popping out of the closet, but I enjoyed this chicklit romp more than Sex & The City when I'm forced to watch it. Chloe Dixon is a wonderful character full of bitchslappy insights, snarky and pissed off in general. She has to cope with a temping job to supply money for her dream as an artist, good enough to be self-sufficient, she must be good to have an agent. Her big problem is Mark, her livein who spends all his money on himself and declares her dream unworthy - and he a wanker teaching bankers. Then arrives Chloe's big day - Mark is off for a week on Zante, Greece with a mate and two girl friends. No mention of Chloe. Kerboom! If nothing else, this ought to push Chloe into a decision. I loved the amusing anecdotes and snippy snide remarks, especially about Chloe's mother and agent, Rhoda. I give this cheerful romp FOUR STARS and highly recommend all chicklit lovers out there to help Chloe make the right decision.
This is a short standalone novella about the fallout when Mark tells Chloe (who he has lived with for two years) that he is leaving in two days time for a week's holiday in Greece with an old mate that he just met again by chance the same day. Oh and two women he has never met. She gets all sorts of advice from various friends and colleagues. Will she welcome him home in the hope of a stronger relationship, or has he done her the biggest favour of her life by letting her see what life could be like without him? A quick and witty read.
Sorry, this is my first time giving one star to a book.
Chloe lives with her boyfriend. Her mind is always in the clouds, and his mind is always on the ground. And suddenly he meets an old friend from college who goes on a vacation on the Greek island Zakinthos. A friend of the friend cancelled the trip and Chloe's boyfriend decides to go instead of him. Did I forget to mention that there are two girlfriends as girls who are friends going with them. Chloe doesn't go just because she doesn't have money for the trip. And she thinks that is ok to let her boyfriend on holiday with other women.
Hello! If my boyfriend goes on a holiday without me with a friend who is a girl, I'll kick his ass from my life forever. And what was that, he has money so he gets the holiday, she doesn't have the money, she stays at home? Living together is a pre-form of marriage, it means sharing things, everything is ours, not mine and yours.
This was a very quick read. Chloe Dixon is a struggling artist with a temp job who lives with her uptight boyfriend. One day he tells her he's going on holiday to Greece with his friend and two girls!! Yes, the douche actually goes!! Chloe doesn't quite know how to feel about his trip or how to deal with it!! Mark oh Mark- what a loser he actually left her to go on vacation alone. Chloe was funny and witty, though she did ramble on about every thing she talked about. Most of the time it was funny, but others it was too much!! I do have to say that Chloe ravings did have me laughing! Ultimately, it's a good story about a girl finding herself and seeing that she didn't a loser boyfriend! I liked Chloe's resolve and her choices regarding her relationship. Mark was such a spazz- he needed to get a clue who does that??
Chloe is an artist living with Mark who is in banking and very money orientated. Mark suddenly announces he is going on holiday with a friend he’s not seen for years and two girls he’s never met before. Chloe doesn’t know quite how to react and alternates between anger and indifference. Once Mark is away she soon realises there are advantages to being on her own and maybe she can spend more time on her abstract art.
I enjoyed this novella narrated by Chloe herself and I thought her varying emotions were well done. I liked the characters especially Chloe’s agent, Rhoda who is eccentric and dynamic and at first seems to put Chloe in the shade. This is an entertaining short read for anyone who enjoys chick lit which isn’t all about sex and shopping.
Chloe's boyfriend goes off on a holiday without her. She has a week to think about it. I liked this story told in first person POV. I enjoyed Chloe's thoughts. I also enjoyed her friends' ideas about the trip and what she should do. I laughed. I got mad. I agreed with some friends, disagreed with others. I felt she did what was the best for her in the end. Fun, quirky read.
I bought this a while ago and just got round to reading it, when I first picked it up it was easy to read and ideal for something light and short to read and I don't that I wasn't disappointed I found the story very interesting
A lovely woman's fiction that will get you rooting for the main character all the way. Love books on art and I loved the way she delved deep into the artist's psyche. Not the ending you would expect, but overall a good read.
This wasn't for me , the story line just meandered along with not much to hold the attention . Hoping the other books I have by this author will be better .
