Cedar River Daydreams #4

Journey to Nowhere

Rate this book
Matt is Cedar River High's rebel—wild, scary and mean. He's known around school for his fighting, and his messed-up home life seems to reinforce his actions. Matt is dangerous to himself, some feel he's dangerous to others, and his name has become synonymous with trouble.

Minda Hannaford also spells trouble and it's no surprise she thinks Matt is great. When she starts running around with him, disaster is sure to follow.

Matt won't last long if he continues down this road. How can Lexi and Todd help?

Change must come for Matt, but will Minda stand in the way?

aka Judy Kaye

Judy Baer was born and grew up on a farm on the prairies of North Dakota, USA. An only child, she spent most of her days with imaginary people-either those she read about or those she made up in her head. Her most ambitious conjuring did not succeed, however. She kept a clean stall with hay and oats for the horse she imagined would come but unfortunately, it never did. As an adult, however, she managed to make that dream come true and raised foundation quarter horses and buffalo for some years. A voracious reader, Judy learned to read with comic books, anything from Little Lulu and Superman to the Rawhide Kid. She sold her first story for $10.00 to a farm magazine. She still has the $10.00.

She graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota with a major in English and education and a minor in religion. At the time, she was simply studying what interested her, but now realizes that she was educating herself for her future career as an inspirational christian romance writer.

Judy wanted to write for Harlequin even in high school but it wasn't until her youngest child learned to say "No" that she realized that she'd better consider a second career to fall back on when mothering was done. Her first book was written with her little girl on her lap. Judy would type a few words, say "Now, Jennifer," at which time her daughter would hit the space bar before Judy continued typing. It wasn't the fastest way to work, but it offered a lot of mother-daughter time together. An over-achiever, she's written 71 books for various publishers. The mother of two and step-mother of three, she now has lots of family to enjoy.

In 2001, she went back to school and became a certified professional life coach. Currently she is working on her Master's in Human Development in the areas of writing, coaching and spirituality and writing inspirational Chick Lit which, she says, is the most fun she's ever had writing.

What happens when you're into bad boys and your bad boy...isn't really so bad?

Boy is Minda messed up. The more I see that girl, the more I worry about her. She really is on the road to nowhere. I like how Lexy and her friends give someone a chance who they might not otherwise talk to. Jennifer is loyal, even to the friends she made back when she was going through 'a stage' and so pulling Matt into the circle of her friends makes logical sense.

What I love most here is Matt's personal transformation. He really gets into this whole Jesus stuff. :) But the book weirdly enough isn't preachy, in that the conversations about faith seem to come out naturally in the story.

I'm throwing this down a star through for cliched tropes.

Very good!
VERY 80’s!
She, her family, and friends all love her brother with Downs Syndrome. Since this was written in the 80’s it used a word — exactly one time — that was good, normal, and respectful back then, but is seen as rude now (r*t*rd). But! Once again, it was the accurate description back in the 80’s, and her brother is treated as fully human, fully respected, and fully loved.

This book was really good. Lexi became good friends with Matt and also helped him become better about excepting people. She watched many people become better, and there were lots of lessons to learn in this book.

This story showed how dealing with pain in our own lives can affect many different people. It also showed that when we decide to make a change for the better it takes time to change a reputation.

This book is funnier and more interesting than I really noticed the first time I read it. Matt’s home life was still heartbreaking, but I’m glad he’s turned his life around. Now if only I could find some Cedar River Daydreams books with a mention of Matt’s family updates.
P.S. I love Matt’s style.

pg. 33: acid washed jeans and tight black T-shirt

pg. 34: black leather jacket and high pointed boots

pg. 75: chocolate brown cloth jacket over fisherman’s knit sweater, brown cords pants, and white high-tops

pg. 116: pale plaid shirt and corduroy jeans

I loved these books so much as kids. reading it again as an adult it seemed so dated and quaint but the morals are good, as are the characters, which are such good role models for kids. I really like Lexi and Todd as characters, and I liked matt too. I liked how Lexi didn't judge and looked deeper into what was going on with him

I love all of the descriptions of the outfits in this book - whoa, hello 1980s! This book shows that appearances are not always as they seem.
