ITS PUB DAY FOR POE! It’s available on Amazon in paperback and on kindle! If you pick up a copy know that you’re supporting one of the best humans I’ve ever met!

this one is a little different… it all started with a dm. “I think I’m going to write a book” is probably the best sentence anyone could ever say to me, so when Ree told me about her plans for Princess of Earth… I was absolutely ecstatic.
Since we’re only a few days away from release (14th of June) it’s time to share my thoughts, I’ve kept everything about this to myself over the last few months but now I’m ready to spill.

𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 ~
Fourteen years after her parents were killed by the Fire Kingdom, Kira is returned to the castle. Now she is of age, she must sit on the throne, lead their army and learn to rule the kingdom.

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰~
Firstly, this plot is 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. I binge read this and had my phone practically glued to my hand for 2 days straight. If I could have read it in my sleep, I would have.

The characters are captivating and while there are quite a few of them it’s very easy to keep track of who is who, which is a testament to how well written this novel is. I love Kira as an MC, she’s a big personality and she’s practically magnetic, it’s impossible to dislike her. It’s not often I root for characters quite like this and it makes me sad that I can’t dive into the next book immediately and live in this world a little longer.

This has twists, turns, mystery and intrigue while also building a world that just 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬. It’s not overly complicated, it’s simple in delivery and there’s no huge confusing info dump that you’ll find with a lot of other fantasy stories. Everything is woven neatly into the story and it all works together to create a fleshed out world that feels realistic and genuine. You can feel how much care Ree took with not only the world, but the characters, the dialogue and the settings. Also… DRAGONS?? I’m obsessed. I genuinely can’t think of a single way to improve this book because I’m convinced it’s already perfect. I’m so picky with the fantasies I enjoy, so you can trust that this one passed the lynds approval test with flying colours. I cannot wait to see what Ree writes next!

This is one 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥 of a debut.
If you love ya fantasy (acotar, throne of glass, the grishaverse, twin crowns ect.) you 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 to get on this 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲.

An easy fantasy read which I devoured in less than a day - likeable characters, simple yet well-written plot with a fast pace. A few inconsistencies in terms of timelines but didn’t really diminish from the experience. I would read the second one right now if it was a thing! A great debut novel :)

only for younger audiences

I DNFd this at 30%. It was just too young for me. The author markets this as YA, and it is, but definitely lower YA like 12-13yr old. It’s plot driven, which makes it fast paced, but it doesn’t have the character development that I normally enjoy in YA novels. Nor the struggles that YA characters should be dealing with around ages 16-18. But for a young reader this could be a great introduction to novels, I just couldn’t get into it as an adult at all.

Princess of Earth is an incredible debut novel by R.J. Rogan. It is a YA fantasy filled with amazing characters, political intrigue, and a main protagonist who is fierce and full of hope.

We are transported to The Earth Kingdom, and it is under attack by The Fire Kingdom. Four year old Kira is awoken in the middle of the night to escape the same fate as her parents. She has been kept in hiding for fourteen years. Now, her Kingdom is under attack, and she must resurface to claim what is hers. I absolutely loved this story. It was full of very exciting moments and, of course, action. I can't wait for it's sequel, because I will devour it just as fast.

Review- This was a super enjoyable fantasy story that was so easy to read l, I enjoyed every second of it. The characters were easy to follow and I loved seeing the princess learning, growing in confidence and really pushing herself out of her comfort zone. The romance part of the story is so sweet and heartwarming 🥰 (not steamy) it just made me smile so much. The pacing was great and kept me wanting to come back and read more. This would be a perfect book for people new to fantasy as it’s not overly complicated. I also love that each kingdom is a different element and really looking forward to book two 😆 5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️

Ok, hear me out. While this wasn’t a bad read it really did have a lot of inconsistencies which drove me a little mad. While I read the book quickly it, I mostly enjoyed it, I felt like I was scratching my head asking why certain things were happening. I had to reread a lot at the start of the book to make some sense of paragraphs but overall it’s pretty enjoyable.
I will admit though, everyone was always sighing through their noise, rolling their eyes, grumbling, smirking.. the overuse of these was driving me a little insane.
What happened to Dane?? He was such a huge part of Kiera’s life and all a sudden he was nonexistent and she never asks for him? Hmm.
Also, why go to war and have people killed if you were planning what you did? It just doesn’t make sense 😂. It really had me think wtf was the point in this.
I felt it was very game of thrones style kinda thing.. the book is also just very the usual YA trope with not much character development. Kira falls into her roll with really no issue at all to be honest.
I think this a great first novel and the writing got stronger the second half of the book. I think it would be a great first book for a teenager just getting into reading ☺️. I will continue with the series as I am interested to see where it goes, 2.5 stars.

I was lucky enough to be a BETA reader for this novel, thank you so much Ree!

An amazing debut novel from R.J Rogan. The characters are well developed and you truly grow to love them as the novel progresses. The world building is great, Earth feels like my home kingdom. I was quickly wrapped up in the plot and the cliffhanger absolutely killed me. I need book two ASAP!

I loved this book! Well done to a wee local lassie!!

I really enjoyed the storylines of this and it’s giving me ACOTR vibes. I can’t wait to see how any love interests develop - I’m rooting for a Cyrus/Kira moment.

The only criticism I have is that it felt a little rushed in certain bits and I’d have liked more character development but I am hooked now so plenty of time for that in the next book.

What a brilliant book! Full of adventure, mystery and twists! Imagine being kidnapped then realising you are the Princess, soon to be Queen?!
Kira is a powerful woman and a big character, Maeteo is great, loved his part and also excited to see where book two leads!

Amazing storyline, love the writing and the ease of the story for reading, there is quite a few people involved but easy to remember each one.

Overall, I don’t think it was bad. It was a 2.5 star read.
To start with the positives of the book, it was a very quick read with an entertaining story. I didn't have to pay too much attention to follow the plot and the author did a good job of making me curious as to where the story is going to go - I feel like it could go a couple different ways. I will likely continue the series as I think the series has potential.
The book did have some issues though.
Firstly, I couldn’t help but feel like the author was trying to emulate SJM ("obscene gesture," anyone?). The dragon portion also seemed as if it were a last-minute addition; it felt quite rushed and was reminiscent of Fourth Wing. Everything being Fire/Earth/Water/Air (I think air was mentioned?) kept making me think of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
One thing that really bothered me was that the book felt almost unfinished; like it was a rough draft waiting to be completed. A big part of that was ineffective editing, my main issues with it being:
* The abundance of grammatical and punctuation errors. There are at least twenty in the first few pages alone! While I understand hiring a fancy-pants editor may not be fiscally feasible for everyone who self-publishes, there are grammar checkers or even Al that could've fixed most of these. I often found myself rereading whole paragraphs just to make sense of them.
* The first chapter being written in first person POV of the main character as a 4 year old just didn’t work. The narrative voice was that of an adult which made it unrealistic. It would have been much more effective if the author had started the book a third person prologue instead.
* The repetitions!! If you took a shot every time someone rolled their eyes or smirked, you'd be dead. Smirk/ smirked/smirking was mentioned 24 times. People rolling their eyes were mentioned a whopping 44 times!
There were also some inaccuracies that might not bother other people but that took me right out of the story when I picked up on them.
First off, horses don't pant. They're not dogs. They can't breathe through their mouths, only their nostrils.
Then the book kept mentioning Kira grabbing the dragon's mane? A mane is fur/hair which I’ve never heard of dragons having. I did reread the initial dragon description thinking I might’ve missed something; I did not.
There were also parts of the story I wasn’t the biggest fan of.
First off, the book was full of tropes (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) but the lost-Princess-isn't-really-dead-she-just-doesn't-remember-who-she-is is so overdone that I think it has to be done a certain way for it to work. The Lunar Chronicles is a great example of this working great. For me it just felt weird that the discovery of who she truly was happened so quickly and nonchalantly. There was barely any explanation and no questions asked- she just accepted it ??
Then the whole “her parents refused all the marriage proposals from the fire kingdom which is why the war started (page 48 on kindle) but oh wait turns out the king did promise Kira to the fire prince before she was born (chapter 13, 14, and page 209 kindle)” really confused me - if she was engaged to the prince since before her birth as part of her dad’s grand plan why did
* The fire kingdom still send marriage proposals later on; and
* Start a war ????
I don't know if this is a plot hole, purposeful unreliable character narration that will get resolved in the rest of the series, or something else, but the timing and how it got explained is... "interesting," to say the least.
Overall, the story overall left me with more questions than answers, which might have been meant by the author as a way to hook the audience, but felt confusing to me.
Also I’m not sure what the intent of this was, but they made such a big deal out of her turning 18 and becoming queen with the coronation and everything, and yet people are still calling her princess?! It drove me mad.
Then the ending was predictable which I don’t mind much as it’s pretty much always the case with YA, but Mateo's reaction to it felt out of character. I get being upset but "she left with him whilst we were being slaughtered" isn't even true! She left at night, AFTER the battle was done for the day. AFTER she was IN the battle helping!! But go off, I guess. I also feel like it's a little odd that after everything he's not questioning her motive at all? Nowhere in his little, love-sick brain does he wonder WHY she did it? Not once does he stop to go, "Hmm, why all of a sudden would she just go over there and go along with the contract despite fighting it so hard when it was first discovered?"
And while I’m talking about Mateo, I actually felt super uncomfortable with the romance. The power dynamic honestly feels almost predatory. Not only is the Mataeo 24/25 when Kira has JUST turned 18 - she’s literally a teenager!!! - but his job is to protect her. Add to that that the Kira is emotionally vulnerable as she’s just had her WHOLE world turned upside down and is figuring herself out again … it just doesn’t sit right with me. I think a slow burn (without the age gap!) would have been much better, and it would have given Kira time to process and come into herself instead of instantly getting all wrapped up in kissing a hot guy in armour.
I just think the book was too short for what it was trying to do and as a result some bits weren’t fleshed out enough. I found a lot of characters felt more like NPCs than anything else. Like was Alexander just a plot device to Kira that book? And why did Dane go from major side character to pretty much non-existent as soon as Mateo enters the chat???
Again, I don't think it's a bad story, but it needed more revisions. I am still planning on reading the rest of the series when it comes out as I feel it has good potential. I'm hoping that the sequel provides more of context and continues to develop the lore but improves on the foundation.

This was quite an enjoyable and quick read. It’s 300 pages, but it didn’t feel like it.

The characters were fun, and I would have liked a little more spice, but that wasn’t really the point of the story. Sometimes, I had a hard time keeping up with the characters because there were a lot of them, but it didn’t hurt the story at all.

I thought the characters would be what kept me in the story because I tend to get attached to them, but I was so invested in this plot, and I’m really sad I don’t have the second book!

I’m so glad that I was able to join this tour, and I’m hoping there’s a tour for that as well.

I absolutely devoured this book! Right from the start I was hooked, it went at a really good pace and I felt like I really connected with all characters and their relationships.

I absolutely love Kira and the way she adapted to her new role. We saw her grow up very fast and quickly saw she was a natural born queen. I am looking forward to seeing how her story develops further.

The connection to the dragons was amazing! I absolutely love dragons in a book and I really hope we see more of them in the future!

I feel so honoured to be a beta reader for this book and already can't wait for book 2! I would highly recommend this book to everyone, you won't be disappointed!

An amazing debut novel from R.J Rogan.

So many things I could say but I want this to be spoiler free! The world building is amazing and great for any beginners to fantasy novels, like myself, and the MCs are not only likeable but have great personalities that shine through in Rogan’s writing.

I’m lucky enough to be apart of R.J’s AR chat & am eagerly looking forward to the next book, especially after that last chapter! I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us!

If you read anything this summer, it should be Princess of Earth!

I personally absolutely loved this book and thought it was high class coming from a first time author and self published at that.
There are a few grammar errors but in all honesty I barely noticed because I was so deep in this book. Newspapers checked over and over have errors at times too it doesn't affect how amazing of a book this is.
I loved the accuracy and the feeling that you're actually there. There was bits of texts I understood completely and some words I had to look up myself as a 26 year old which was nice to also be challenged and learn new things as I'm reading.
I wish the book was longer but purely for my own selfish needs because I'm just dying to read more of Kira's adventures and where the next steps take us. The dragons were 10/10 I mean who doesn't love dragons??

Read this book in march but forgot to update my review!!

This is beautifully written and I found it so captivating, fast paced with a addictive plot, full of mystery and twists. There’s so many great characters, and with a powerful main female lead what more is there to want?

Oh and if you’re not fully convinced to preorder yet… there’s dragons 🐉
