Billionaire playboy.
Next-door neighbor.
And apparently… my new gynecologist.

I’m a widow. A single mom. And the new girl in a small town.

I’m also in the midst of the most important battle of my life—fighting my in-laws for custody of my son.

The circumstances that brought me to Calloway Creek come with perks. A new employer, a company house, and a gorgeous neighbor who is the perfect distraction from my heartache.
The problem with this distraction? The whole town has warned me away from Hudson McQuaid. But I don't see the side of him everyone else sees.

When flirtation turns into feelings, lines get crossed. And the consequences could derail my security, my job, and everything I’ve worked so hard for.

No Simple Lie is a standalone novel in the McQuaid Brothers series. It's a sexy neighbors-to-lovers romance about a filthy rich doctor, the new girl next door, and one meddling, conniving, billionaire grandfather.

Despite the fact that she is a romance writer, Samantha Christy's favorite television show of all time is The Walking Dead.

And contrary to the fact that her heroines drink things like wine and Cosmos, she prefers Bud Light.

She also loves fan mail and answers all of it.

She went to college and all that, getting a degree in something she never uses. She's also got a gaggle of kids (4) and a pretty decent husband.

“Tell me you want more. Tell me we’re not just neighbors. Tell me I’m the only man you want to touch. Tell me you feel alive when we’re together. Tell me your head spins and your vision blurs when you see me.” I pull back and stare at her in the breaking dawn. “Tell me you want me as badly as I want you, Gator Girl.”

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Tucker McQuaid is the best character Samantha Christy has ever written. Even when Samantha utterly GUTTED me in Chapter 2 (LIKE HOW COULD YOU!!) she still has the man working his magic to make everything work out. Samantha has an amazing gift for weaving characters from her previous series into her novels so seamlessly, it’s so well done. And Hudson… I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for his book! For some reason I fell for him in Hawk’s book and I’ve been so excited for it. Samantha you delivered in so many ways with this one. I’m OBSESSED with Dakota. Her strength and love was felt on every single page. I truly have no words for how well Dakota was written. I’m forever obsessed with these two and their adorable relationship. Can we stay in this series forever?? Kay thanks love you ✌🏼⭐️: 5/5 🌶️: 3/5

After reading the previous two books in this series I was really excited and curious to read ‘No Simple Lie’. Hudson’s character intrigued me from the moment I first read about him.

This book was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Dakota’s story definitely made me cry. Losing custody of her son because of two spiteful and rich people? It broke my heart as a mom. I can’t even imagine it.

The romance between Hudson and Dakota was amazing! I loved how they both felt this intense connection right from the start. We learn a lot about Hudson throughout this book, and I really loved him in the end.

In this read we also read about the McQuaids grandfather again. And although he definitely is a sneaky, secretive guy.. I must say I loved his ways. He never stopped amazing me with how he organized things to go the way he wanted! But I sure am glad I don’t have a grandfather like him. LOL!!

The small town setting was yet again very charming and I sure hope we will see more of this town in a new series.

Hudson and Dakota

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Audiobook: OMG, all of the inhales and exchales into the mic drove me nuts.

KU borrow, Alexa app listen. Dual POV. Book 3 in the McQuaid Brothers trilogy. Was it unrealistic? Yes. Was it predictable? Yes. Was it worth the read? You be the judge. Bonus content available from the author. Lots of names dropped from previous books/series. The best part was the villains until they completely went soft and gave up, which was a total letdown. Content warnings: custody battle; infertility; paternity dispute and reveal; artifical insemination; sperm donation; gynecological exam; stillborn delivered at 39 weeks; memories of the overdose/death of a spouse; sexual harassment in the work place; OW drama; villainous in-laws; H has temper issues, throws things, and name calls when he's upset; and a manipulative/meddling grandfather.

Dr Hudson McQuaid (28; aka Doctor) is third in birth order (two older brothers, a younger sister, and a younger half-sister). He became a doctor to prove to his cheating, lazy father he could. He's a playboy with no plans of settling down. Hudson judges his father's creepy playboy ways while doing the same exact things to his staff and patients. Tucker McQuaid, Hudson's manipulative/meddling grandfather, keeps close tabs on his entire family and knows how and when they make money because he hires private investigators to track them. Sadly, he's done nothing to correct his creepy son Robert. Dakota Daniels (27; aka Gator Girl) became a widow two years ago when her husband overdosed. She is the mother of their four-year-old son Travis. Brian, her husband, wanted to marry her but knew his wealthy family wouldn't allow it, but he couldn't get her pregnant, so they used artificial insemination to conceive. Directly after she lost custody of Travis to her in-laws, she declares Travis isn't their grandson, which, legally, he absolutely is, even if he isn't biologically. She meets Tucker right after Travis is taken away from her. Tucker takes Dakota for coffee, where she tells him her life story and he offers to help her. Not long after that coffee chat, Heidi, her best friend, tells her that she gave Dakota a great recommendation, but she wished Dakota had told her she was looking for a new job. Dakota has no clue what Heidi is talking about. While they're together, Dakota calls Tucker and places him on speaker mode so Heidi can hear the conversation. Tucker offers her a job with a signing bonus that will cover the legal fees she owes and housing. Hudson is her new neighbor. Tucker tells Hudson to leave Dakota alone, making Dakota "forbidden fruit," sparking Hudson's desire for her. The two quickly fall in love. Hudson finds the file Tucker has on Dakota and incorrectly assumes Tucker's paying Dakota to seduce Hudson. Of course, Hudson loses his mind and breaks up with Dakota in a terrible manner. Dakota soon finds out she's pregnant. Tucker reveals Hudson is Travis's biological father (Hudson earned money donating sperm when he was in school). Hudson finds Dakota. They straighten everything out, she tells him she's pregnant, Hudson proposes, and they get married. JP

2 out of 5 on my spice scale.

I want more! There were times I had laid in bed, unable to sleep, only thinking about Dakota and Hudson. The problem was, I couldn’t listen to their story without waking up my husband. This was an addiction I craved.
I’m not big on single parenting stories, but this one was heart warming, had beautiful tension and banter, plus it was unique. This gave me all the feels and made me want more. The way these two tried hard to fight the chemistry, the magnetic pull was off the charts.
This is my first by this author and I’m ready to binge read more.

Dakota’s voice helped me see her personality on another level, while Hudson’s voice made me fall harder for him. These two narrators fit perfectly together to make these characters even more human.

Highly recommend!

I was really enjoying this book but the things the H said to the h during the third act break up was unforgivable in my opinion. I do not think he groveled enough for her to forgive him and she forgave him so quickly. Like girl get some self respect and a backbone. I still think it was a pretty good book but I can’t rate it higher than 2 stars

A Decent Conclusion

‼️ While this could be read as a standalone, this is book 3 of the Brothers of Calloway Creek: The McQuaids series.

𝕄𝕪 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤:
This is the last book from the McQuaid brothers. While they are not my favorite characters (I'm especially looking at you Hawk) I loved their little conclusion.

Watching Hudson settle down and find love was the conclusion we needed. Watching him fall in love with feisty, single mom Dakota, was even better.❤️

Whew, in true Samantha fashion, there was angst and heartache. It wouldn't be a book written by her if there weren't parts that made you want to bawl your eyes out.🥺😍

Thank you to the author for an opportunity of an ARC! Based on some events that take place in this book, I can already suspect which character Samantha will write about next. I feel like it'll be a tear jerker for sure!😭

I just love this series so much. I love the world that these boys all live in. I adore the way they change their wicked ways for the woman in their life. Most of all though, I love the meddling old man known as Grandpa McQuaid❤️❤️❤️ he knows all sees all and these boys don’t stand a chance when he makes a decision about their love lives!!! 😂

No Simple Lie is the third book in Samantha Christy's phenomenal The Brothers of Calloway Creek: The McQuaids series and it's time for the youngest McQuaid brother to fall for the single mom next door!
Dakota Daniels is at rock bottom, she tragically lost her husband a few years ago and now her in laws are determined to paint her as an unfit mother and take her four year old son from her. Unfortunately they succeed and take Travis away from her and leave Dakota broken, how has this happened? How did she end up losing the most important person in her life? Sobbing and on the floor outside the court, Dakota meets a kind old man who at the time Dakota had no idea how much meeting this man would change her life forever. Tucker McQuaid wants to help Dakota so he offers her a job at his company which comes with a house perfect for a family in Calloway Creek.
Hudson McQuaid thinks he's too smart and too successful for his Grandfather's meddling and manipulations but compared to his brothers, being told to stay away from his new neighbour and his Grandfather's new employee is getting off pretty easy.
That is until Hudson lays eyes on Dakota, there is something about her that makes Hudson want to know more, which has never happened to Hudson before. And of course the sparks flying between them isn't making it any easier for both Hudson and Dakota, Dakota is on a mission to get Travis back and nothing can get in her way of bringing her son back home, especially the handsome doctor next door and Hudson feels he isn't a forever kind of guy and he's definitely not a family man.
But the chemistry between them becomes too hard to ignore and even though there are many reasons why they shouldn't, they can't help but cross the line into something more. And neither Hudson or Dakota could have predicted how perfect and how right it feels being together, which is making Hudson question everything he thought was true, is he a marriage and children kind of man after all who has just been waiting for the girl next door all this time?
"Travis needs a father. Someone to keep him safe and show him how to grow into a man.
Dakota needs a partner. Someone she can trust, rely on, and grow old with.
And apparently I need both of them like I need my right arm."
Will Dakota be able to get Travis back and give him the life and family she has always wanted but never thought possible?
Read No Simple Lie now to find out!
I absolutely LOVED No Simple Lie I could not put it down until I devoured it all! I say this with every new Samantha Christy book but No Simple Lie and Dakota and Hudson have become my favourite book and couple of Samantha's. Samantha made it extremely easy to fall for Hudson, Dakota and Travis too and I don't think I'll be getting my heart back anytime soon, they have truly stolen it! No Simple Lie is the perfect example of why Samantha Christy is one of my favourite authors, she writes addictive storylines that make you end up losing the day with your head in the amazing worlds she's created and families that make you want to become a part of! I cannot wait for what Samantha does next!
I received an arc of No Simple Lie and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

Eles começam a namorar. Ela consegue a guarda do Travis. Ele pede para o Hudson ser pai dele e ele fala que ficaria honrado e adota do Travis.

"No Simple Lie" by Samantha Christy is a incredible and engaging contemporary romance novel that effortlessly weaves together the lives of two complex characters in a small town setting. The story is a part of the McQuaid Brothers series and stands out as a heartwarming tale of love, trust, and overcoming adversity.

The story introduces us to a compelling protagonist, a widow and single mother, who relocates to the charming town of Calloway Creek. She is in the midst of a challenging custody battle with her in-laws, a situation that adds depth and emotional intensity to the narrative. In the midst of her struggle, she encounters her next-door neighbor, Hudson McQuaid, a wealthy and charismatic doctor who, interestingly, also serves as her new gynecologist.

The author brilliantly captures the essence of small-town life, where everyone knows everyone else's business. The initial warnings about Hudson McQuaid only serve to pique our protagonist's curiosity. Her journey from caution to curiosity and ultimately to love is beautifully portrayed, making the readers genuinely invest in her story.

The characters are well-developed, relatable, and engaging. The connection between the widow and Hudson is palpable, and their chemistry sizzles on the pages. The author masterfully navigates the nuances of a neighbors-to-lovers romance, allowing the relationship to evolve naturally, with all its ups and downs. The side characters, including the conniving billionaire grandfather, add depth to the narrative and contribute to the overall enjoyment of the story.

The pacing of the novel is perfect, keeping readers engrossed from start to finish. The author's writing style is smooth and engaging, making it easy to become immersed in the world of Calloway Creek and its inhabitants. The story is beautifully written, with a balance of emotional depth, witty humor, and sensuality.

As the romance unfolds, it's not just about love but also about personal growth, healing, and finding the strength to fight for what is truly important. The narrative explores themes of family, love, and second chances with a deft touch, making it an emotionally resonant read.

In "No Simple Lie," the author delivers a compelling, heartfelt, and sensual tale of love that triumphs over adversity. The story is a testament to the power of second chances and the beauty of starting anew. Whether you're a fan of contemporary romance or simply looking for an engaging and heartwarming read, this book is a worthy addition to your bookshelf. It is a standalone novel, but it might just leave you wanting to explore the other McQuaid Brothers' stories.

The Doctor is in!

I think I have to say that they saved the best McQuaid brother for last because despite his playboy, womanising ways… I cannot help but absolutely love Hudson McQuaid. Sure, he’s not got the best reputation when it comes to dating and using women as just a means to an end, but it’s safe to say that from the moment he meets his new neighbour, Dakota Daniels his whole perspective changes.

Dakota is a single mum (although that isn’t immediately known to Hudson) but following the death of her ex-husband, she has lost custody of her little boy to his controlling and dominating parents. They don’t love him, they just want him to love her.

In a bid to better her chances of getting her son back, she takes the offer made to her by an old philanthropic billionaire of a job, a house and financial stability to help make it happen. Of course, that old philanthropist is none other than Hudson’s meddling grandfather, Tucker. And the house, well it just so happens to be right next door to his degenerate grandson.

After seeing the way that Tucker manipulated his brothers, Hudson is adamant that he won’t fall for his tricks. So, when Tucker forbids him to have anything to do with his new employee, Hudson tries not to let the lure of the beautiful woman next door affect him. But the more he tries to stay away and heed his grandfathers warning, the more attracted he becomes.

Little does he know that he is playing right into Pappy Tucker’s hands. But there’s so much more at play than just their growing feelings for each other. Something between is so intense and far more than either of them ever expected.

Unfortunately though, Hudson discovers what he thinks is his Pappy’s grand plan and he’s not happy. But could the truth explain why Dakota Daniels has so easily and completely overtaken his heart?

I absolutely loved, loved, loved this story. I had guessed what the huge twist was going to be quite early on… but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story because we do get that epic HEA.

Dakota and Hudson are just perfect and her son Travis is just the absolute cutest. I’m hoping that there is going to be from these Calloway Creek families because I’ve lived these characters and everything they’ve been through. Maybe there’s some scope for the Montana’s… Dallas certainly needs a happy ending after what happens in this book.

An excellent fairytale of how a heartless man so opposed to love ends up finding so much more.

I recently had the immense pleasure of reading "No Simple Lie" by Samantha Christy, and I can't say enough about how much I loved this book. From the very first page to the last, I was captivated by the brilliant storytelling and unforgettable characters.

Samantha Christy has a true gift for creating characters that come to life on the page, and in "No Simple Lie," she has outdone herself. Dakota, the widowed single mom, and newcomer to a small town, is a character you can't help but root for. Her strength and resilience are inspiring, and I found myself emotionally invested in her journey right from the start. The way she navigates the challenges of fighting for custody of her son and building a new life is both heart-wrenching and heart-warming.

The story's setting in Calloway Creek adds a charming backdrop to the narrative, and the plot is perfectly paced. Samantha Christy skillfully takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions, from moments that brought tears to my eyes to those that had me laughing out loud. I truly felt the pain, joy, and everything in between alongside the characters.

And speaking of the characters, let's talk about Hudson McQuaid. He's the kind of hero you can't help but fall in love with. Despite the town's warnings, you'll quickly discover that there's more to him than meets the eye. The chemistry between Dakota and Hudson is electric, and their journey from flirtation to something deeper is both captivating and enthralling.

The delicate balance of romance, drama, and personal growth in "No Simple Lie" is expertly handled by Samantha Christy. It's a story that reminds us of the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. As the consequences of their feelings become apparent, you'll find yourself eagerly turning the pages to see how everything unfolds.

In summary, "No Simple Lie" is an outstanding read that I couldn't put down. Samantha Christy's storytelling is second to none, and this book is a testament to her talent. I laughed, I cried, and I felt a profound connection with the characters. If you're looking for a book that will sweep you off your feet and touch your heart, I wholeheartedly recommend "No Simple Lie." It's a beautiful story that will stay with you long after you've finished reading.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of "No Simple Lie" by Samantha Christy and I was SO excited to dive in! I had read her "The Perfect Game" series months ago and LOVED them, so when I saw she had a new book coming out, I was ready! This book is the 3rd in that series, but the first I've read in it. I was able to read it without knowing exactly what the backgrounds of the characters were because she did a good job making them interconnected standalones.

Hudson McQuaid is a wealthy doctor in a small town- with a very famous and wealthy family. His grandfather is a meddling BILLIONAIRE who tries to get his 3 grandsons on the right track (according to him- finding love and getting out of their womanizing ways). He's already worked on his first two, so that leaves Hudson. Hudson is stubborn and decided not to go into his family's business and become a doctor instead and vowed to not fall for his grandfather's antics. Then one day, a new girl moved in next door (one of the most determined, beautiful single mothers on a mission I've read about) and Hudson was intrigued. Turns out, she now works for his grandfather, which is why she moved into the company rental house next door, but she has a secret that only she and Tucker McQuiad (their grandfather) know. Hudson was warned to stay away from her, but that made him want the chase even more. This neighbors to lovers romance is full of spice, emotion, secrets, heart ache, laughs (especially between the brothers and the grandfather), and I devoured it in a day. I seriously couldn't put it down- aside to sleep and take my kids to school. Samantha just has this MAGIC when she writes that makes you feel part of whatever story she is telling and I just love it... SO MUCH SO that as soon as I finished this book, I IMMEDIATELY went back to read book 1 and 2 THEN started the connected series of THOSE brothers that were part of this series- kind of like a Hatfield and McCoy rivalry in a small town. I loved each and every one of them. I would definitely give this book, "No Simple Lie", a 5/5 stars!!

*I will say to check the trigger warnings because it does talk about drug overdose (not directly with a main character), loss of a child, and death of a loved one.

Oh, Hudson. We Told You So ;-)

If you haven’t met the McQuaid brothers from Calloway Creek, you are really missing out. And now that their series is complete, you really have no reason not to dive in. If you’ve been reading them all along, I know you’re missing them just as much as I am. Because Samantha Christy created one heck of a trilogy with these bad boys. And wrapping it up with Hudson and Dakota’s HEA in No Simple Lie was definitely a treat.

As always, Christy brings all the feels. The perfect set-up, the twists you never see coming, the emotional investment, the angst, the steam—it’s all there. And of course, there’s Tucker McQuaid, everyone’s favorite meddling grandfather. And boy, does he set the ball rolling on an incredible love story.

The range and depth of emotions in Christy’s characters always hits home, but Dakota’s story is one that will definitely have you reaching for tissues, and shaking your fist with righteous indignation. And Hudson, yeah, you’re gonna fall for him. Hard. Told in first person POV, Dakota and Hudson’s inner monologues are truly fantastic, bringing another level of depth and power to their emotions and interactions. The banter between both main characters, as well as with and among their supporting characters is sharp, smart, and authentic. And it all lends to a beautiful build-up to their relationship and their perfect HEA.

Of course, this is a Samantha Christy novel, so be ready for the angst. It’s there, and it’s intense. Blended with solid pacing and crisp dialogue, it all works to pull the reader into the story and power them through all of the ups and downs the characters experience. And just when you think you know exactly what’s going to happen… yeah, forget it. You have no idea. And it’s so freaking fantastic and mind-blowing, it will be worth every gasp, sob, snicker, and snortlaugh.

I am truly sad to see this series end. Christy took three brothers who readers were conditioned to dislike (ok, maybe even hate) from her Calloway Brothers trilogy and made them some of the most redeemable and loved characters on my bookshelf. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next!

Hmmmm. There's manwhore, and then there's serial sexual harasser.

"Hudson, for four years you teetered on the line of serial harassment with every female in this practice. You ask us out, stare at our breasts, talk inappropriately about us to others."

That left a nasty taste in my mouth. That's not teetering. That is over the line. This is our MMC? Someone who legitimately could be barred from practice for persistent sexual harassment? Ew.

Okay, so no one reads romance novels for realism. But with men who harass female colleagues at work, the problem is not that they haven't met the right woman yet. The problem is they do not see women as people. Can people like that change? Sure, I guess. There must be men out there who are ashamed of how they used to think of and treat women. But I guarantee they didn't have a personality reset over a few weeks because they fell in love.

Ultimately I couldn't get past that, even though Samantha Christy is a decent writer. (With an arguably pathological obsession with accidental pregnancies, but at least you know to expect that in her books.)

Despite being dual pov and being inside Hudson's head a lot, we didn't see him do that much thinking. One chapter he's still claiming that all the women he "dated" were just using him for his name and money, the next chapter he's apologising to one of them for treating her badly. It came out of nowhere. You have to earn a reformation, not throw in one or two thoughts that maybe he isn't perfect and then he says all the right things. He didn't do any reflection on whether he really was upfront with women or just assumed they knew the deal.

I also didn't like the depiction of other women in this book. Does he have the reputation of a sleazy POS or is he considered an eligible bachelor? It seems like the first, but in that case women would steer clear, not "glare daggers" at his date. The only ones who'd pursue him really would be people interested in money.

And I hate meddling relative storylines. Just in general. This series has not changed my mind. Tucker seemed kind of awful in the last book, and I didn't like him any better in this one.

“With her it’s different. Everything is different.”

No Simple Lie tells an emotionally compelling story that will tug at your heart strings and will have you falling in love with Hudson McQuaid. Hudson is the last McQuaid brother, and he’s determined not to fall victim to his grandfather’s schemes or fall in love like his brothers. Dakota is focused on regaining custody of her son and rebuilding her life when she moves in next door to Hudson. When these two collide, it’s fiery and full of longing, pain and trauma, and powerful emotions. The connection and feeling between them was palpable.

“I want him and his brokenness. I want him and his cockiness. I just want him.”

Dakota’s story broke my heart. In spite of the pain of her past and present, she’s strong and fiercely devoted to her son. Her strength of character and empathy for others was so beautiful and I loved how she would fight for those that she loved.

“I like the way she’s changed things. I want her in my space. I want her everywhere.”

Hudson was a bit of a jerk to begin with, but he grew into such a swoonworthy hero that you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. I loved how he didn’t hide from what he was feeling and recognized it for what it was. His devotion to Dakota was breathtaking.

“I need her like I need my next breath. I need us like I’ve never needed anything before.”

The longing and slow building tension between these two was explosive and I loved how they slowly revealed pieces of themselves to each other so they understood each other and where they stood with one another. I loved how Dakota made Hudson more empathetic and allowed him to show his heart while Hudson built Dakota up and gave her the confidence to fight for what mattered.

I absolutely loved No Simple Lie. It’s twisty, angsty, and emotional while also being fun and lighthearted. Hudson and Dakota were meant for one another and I’m hoping that we saw a glimpse of what’s coming next.

A perfectly woven story with charismatic characters

This book right here consumed me. Envision me on a cruise ship, toosh parked on a lounge chair that happens to be right beside the entrance to the slide, excited kids a constant, and me…not phased in the least because I was so deep into the world of Hudson & Dakota that nothing else mattered.

Hudson McQuaid is the one brother who is accomplished, self sufficient, and somehow thinks he’s untouchable when it comes to the trials and manipulations of Tucker McQuaid, his grandfather. But even though Hudson is the youngest attending physician at the gynecologic clinic, he certainly is not invincible.

Dakota Daniels is a shattered woman who’s story is beyond heartbreaking. There’s no way that you can’t completely sympathize with her situation & just pray that things turn around for her. But a “chance” meeting with Tucker McQuaid has so much more possibility than she could ever fathom.

Hudson & Dakota, now neighbors, find a rather intense draw to each other. Even without words, the people of Calloway Creek can sense a connection. I love the way that the whole town completely embraces Dakota because they know she’s now one of their own. Hudson’s intense need to help & protect her shows his true nature. Though his reputation precedes him, deep down, he’s not the playboy that he appears to be. He just needs the right woman in the right circumstance to make him slow down, take a breath, & fall.

The secrets & the plot twist added a nice layer of mystery, suspense, & heartbreak to the story. But it also upped the swoon factor when the secrets were revealed. Watching these two fall in love while also navigating personal growth, balancing a “new normal”, emotional healing, and finding strength to fight for what matters most had me completely engrossed in the words on the page. And just when my heart had become so heavy from the circumstances they were facing, these two were able to hold tight to their love, fight, and completely earn their HEA.

Ok Samantha has excelled herself and this is now my favourite of the McQuaid series. I am a big fan of her work.

This book has it all single mum, widow, millionaire playboy confirmed bachelor, neighbours to lovers, dual pov.

The story starts with Dakota losing custody of her son to her ex in laws and her lawyer telling her she needs to pay $10,000 to continue fighting her ex in laws.

She then so happens to meet Tucker McQuaid. He insists on taking her for a coffee to find out what has happened to her. She has no idea who Tucker is and she is very surprised to find out the next day she is offered an amazing opportunity to work for his Fortune 500 company which comes with corporate housing and perks including an advance on her salary which she can use to appeal custody decision.

Hudson, is Tuckers youngest grandson, and Dakota’s new house is right next door to his property. He is a doctor who is fairly financially independent and thinks he is free from his grandfather’s meddling! He also is being avoided by all the woman in the town as he is branded a cheat!

Hudson and Tucker don’t always see eye to eye and Tucker warns Hudson not to get involved with Dakota. Hudson tries to stay away but just can’t, he is not sure if it because his grandfather has told him to stay away or the fact that he is very attracted to this woman!

They are both drawn to each other but want to stay away so she can concentrate on winning her son back before she will allow herself to have happiness in a relationship and he knows his grandfather will not be happy!

You must read this story as there is a real twist that I never saw coming.

Another brilliantly written story from Samantha. I cannot wait to see what she write next!

I read this as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

The last McQuaid brother falls hard

Dakota
Single Mom with a tragic past and complicated circumstance

Hudson
A (former) playboy who fell in love for the first time

”I’ll love you as hard as I fucking can for as long as you’ll fucking let me.”

The remaining McQuaid brother comes with the most emotional story at hand. Hudson is about to change his life before Dakota comes into his life as his new neighbor. But this young woman will change his life and views in a way he never thought would possible or happen to him.
Dakota gets a helping hand when at the most needed moment in her life. Having lost so much, she is at her lowest point when Tucker finds her. Determined with one goal in mind and to show her gratitude, Dakota will do anything to be worthy. Tucker’s help, her new job and getting back the most precious and important thing in her life.
As she and her new neighbor, Hudson, become closer, her life becomes both more worthy living and more complicated.
Because she has secrets Hudson doesn’t know about and she isn’t sure he will want her complicated life in his. And both of them don’t know the biggest secret that is yet to be discovered.
When Hudson finds out some of it by chance, he jumps to the wrong conclusions and ends up hurting Dakota in the most painful way.
My thoughts:
Dakota had my full empathy and support. Her story was so heartbreaking and sad that it literally made me cry. But she never gave up and fought for her right. She wasn't deliberately holding back, she was just scared and hesitant. Always trying to do the right thing for everyone. Never disappointing or hurting anyone.
Hudson could not cope well with his newly developed feelings. He simply didn't know what to do. His heart meant so well and he gave it his all, but he's not a patient man and he's not very good at not getting his way.
But he tried and slowly changed, and that was what counted. Only his bad temper at one point was breathtaking and hurtful.
I was glad that Dakota was able to forgive him and that they had a happy ending with more surprises than anyone could have expected.

The Doctor is in….

Welcome back to Calloway Creek! It was tough when Dakota Daniels lost her husband, but the pain was nothing compared to having her son Travis taken away. When a stranger approaches her when an offer to help get her son back she is suspicious, but will do anything for Travis. Is Tucker McQuaid her fairy godfather or is there something else going on?

Hudson McQuaid is being boycotted by the women in Calloway Creek. His bachelor ways have finally caught up with him. He has zero interest in a relationship…until his new neighbor moves in. He starts to have feelings for her…until he walks into an exam room and she is sitting there. He will not cross that line…unless she isn’t his patient anymore. Dakota has been keeping her son a secret. What will Hudson do when he finds out about him?

Hudson and Dakota have amazing chemistry. From the moment they laid eyes on each other there is no question these two had a connection! Dakota had been through so much with the loss of her family and she always put her son first. Hudson was so incredibly caring with Dakota and especially with Travis. I had tears in my eyes a few times. Hudson had some serious character growth. There is a lot more than meets the eye with Hudson and Dakota was there for him after a very difficult day at the office. There are also some great steamy scenes in this book!

I laughed out loud at the “Hudson boycott” and they way Tucker and Rose were pulling strings in the background. There is some great banter in this book, and I loved the scenes with Hudson’s brothers.

“You’re the gift. And I promise to treasure you every day.”

Contemporary, small town romance. This story follows Hudson and Dakota. He comes from family money but has made a name for himself as a doctor. He had also made a name for himself because of the number of women he has been with, which has now created quite a bit of drama for him.

The FMC is a widowed, single mother, who has just lost custody of her son to her husband’s parents. When we meet her, she is absolutely devastated, and a kind stranger finds her and offers to take her for coffee and talk. That stranger happens to be the MMC’s grandfather, and what we later find out in the book is that he is playing a very big role in the main characters coming together.

But for now, he is offering his support to the FMC. He does this by arranging for her to get a better job and for her to move into a new house, which happens to be next-door to the MMC. So while the grandfather is pulling the strings of getting them to be next to each other, their feelings happen naturally and they become serious.

Something happens that makes the MMC believe the FMC seduced him on purpose which causes him to lash out and say some hurtful things but he does grovel and earns the FMCs forgiveness, leading to their HEA.

I really enjoyed this book. It was hard to read as a mother believing this could happen but also knowing that things like what happened to the FMC do happen in real life. I loved the surprises. I never saw the end coming. The story had great character development. The writing was good. I listened to this as an audiobook and thought it was fantastic. I definitely recommend.

The McQuaid boys have all been bad boys but I believe Hud might be the worst of them all. I mean how many men can say that they have the women of their town boycott them? Well Hudson can say he has.

Dakota is living a nightmare one that she can’t wake up from. She can’t ever seem to win and you can’t when evil constantly trumps good. Dakota has very little in life and now that little bit is gone and everyone witnesses it. When a man who witnesses it becomes her guardian angel she vows to do everything she can to get her life back and fight the evil.

Hudson is a Dr, he’s single, he’s rich and he refuses to be the next puppet in his grandfathers play. He’s been smart he lives in a simple house, invests his money and has a good income so his grandfather can keep his inheritance because he doesn’t need it so there’s no need to worry about being cutoff.

When Hudson meets the new girl next door and his grandfather tells him she’s off limits of course it’s like dangling a bone in front of a dog. When the chemistry is off the charts but there’s always misunderstandings and secrets it’s hard to ever move forward. But are some secrets too much to overcome? Is it worth it?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. But I love all of Samantha’s books. This was no different. I am so excited to see the next series that will be coming. I have an inkling but I am curious to know if I am right!

Hudson and Dakota

This was a great wrap up of the McQuaid brothers. Samantha Christy took 3 brothers who were basically villains and turned them into upstanding citizens and perfect book boyfriends.

Hudson, the youngest McQuaid brother, was the hardest for Pappy to manipulate because he didn’t need his trust fund. Hudson had already survived being cut off when he chose a college Pappy didn’t approve of so he was secure in the fact that he was safe. But then the gorgeous Dakota moved in next door and Pappy forbid him from dating her.

Dakota was having a hard year. She’d wrongfully lost custody of her son and was now working for a billionaire who offered to fund her appeal to get her son back. That should have kept her busy enough to ignore the hot doctor next door, but it wasn’t.

Dakota and Hudson were perfect for each other. I loved their relationship and their chemistry was on fire. There were parts that broke me, but Hudson’s grovel definitely won me over. I loved the ending. It was so emotional and satisfying.

Sometimes I have a hard time reading books that delve into the legal field because it’s the industry I work in. As much as I loved this story and felt for the characters, I had a hard time with the legal aspects. It was primarily a personal thing for me, I think someone who doesn’t know the inter-workings of the legal field would probably rate this a five star read.

This is the third book written by Samantha Christy I've read and I have become a big fan. She creates stellar characters and surrounds them with great stories that are filled with emotion, conflict, angst, familt ties and superb romance. Once again the McQuaid patriarch inserts himself into one of his grandson's lives. You gotta hand it to Pappy, he is a sneaky guy who gets desired results. Hudson may be a successful doctor but he's definitely not a winner of the dating game. He's more of a love em and leave kinda guy; no entanglements, no commitments, no promises. Consequently, he's worked his way through the majority of the available woman in his small town leaving a lot of unhappy females in his wake. Dakota Daniels' nightmare began when she lost custody of her four year old son to a set of vinductive in-laws. The only saving grace? Tucker 'Pappy" McQuaid has become her fairy godfather. Because of his generosity she has the means to fight for her son. Moving her next door to Hudson and telling him she's off limits sets his plans in motion. The rest is up to them. The sparks are there but so is the resistance. She doesn't need distractions and Hunter doesn't do commitment. Slowly but surely these two fall for one another but it's not all smooth sailing. It takes a startling revelation to bring them back together and that leads to another McQuaid bachelor biting the dust.

The FMC, Dakota, has just lost custody of her son to her ex in laws when she meets The elder McQuaid. The now single mom is down on her luck and now just lost her son. She has no idea who Tucker is. The next day she is offered an amazing opportunity to work for his Fortune 500 company which comes with corporate housing and other perks including advanced salary to appeal custody decision.

The MMC, Hudson, is Tuckers grandson, Dakota’s new neighbor and a doctor. Hudson and Tucker don’t always see eye to eye and Tucker is always meddling and trying to control his life. Tucker warns Hudson not to get involved with Dakota. Hudson tries to stay away but just can’t.

What will happen with Dakota and her son? Will she get custody again? What will Tucker do with his inheritance if he doesn’t stay away from Dakota?

I read this cover to cover I love this series. The snark, the sarcasm and the talking of FE at dinner in a restaurant was great😂 another hit from Samantha.

Great ending to the series

This series got better with each book. I think I loved this one best because Dakota was so strong and my heart broke for what she went through.

Dakota’s husband died of a drug overdose. His rich family of lawyers that never cared for her paint her as the drug user and when a judge who is a friend of theirs is on the case her son is stripped from her. Tucker McQuaid witnesses the heart wrenching scene. He takes her for coffee and offers her a job as a CPA at his company with an unbelievable salary and giving her a home to live in next door to his son Hudson. He warns Hudson to stay away because she’s been through a lot. You always want what you can’t have. But Hudson is a playboy who has every woman in town boycotting him. But the attraction between them is instant.

As their relationship develops they both slowly open to each other. But a misunderstanding threatens their happiness but then it’s a wild unbelievable ride as things come to light that neither one was aware of.

This was a wild ride and I tore through the pages. My heart racing just as theirs was.

I’m sad to see this series end. I read all three books in this series in a few days. Well done Samantha Christy!

Dakota just trying to survive after the death of her husband finds herself in court battling for custody of her son. Her in-laws don’t want him but they don’t want her to have him either. In comes Tucker McQuaid! He sees her on the courthouse steps distraught and heartbroken. He offers her a job that she can’t refuse and the promise to help find her a new lawyer to help fight for her son to come back home.
Hudson, nothing but a playboy but never promised anything to anyone. He sees that someone has moved in next door and wow she is gorgeous! He finds himself feeling things he never felt before because of this Gator Girl next door!

Samantha is the best at creating these complex stories with characters who not only have some form of traumatic past but are also going through something painful currently. Our next McQuaid brother story is Hudson’s story. As usual with this family, we have Tucker making some kind of threat to his grandson. We have seen him place a bet and make a dare, but what is Hudson’s lie going to be? I actually loved that this part was a little different for Hudson and that Hudson was standing up to him.

Dakota’s story just about broke. Dakota is a single mom and a widow. When Tucker finds her on the worst day of her life, he becomes her fairy godfather. She ends up moving in next to Hudson and working for Tucker. Hudson and Dakota strike up a genuine friendship that slowly turns to more. It was so beautiful to experience and the way that Hudson let his guard down and let Dakota in.

I appreciate the story telling in this book, we didn’t just have the love story between Hudson and Dakota but we also got this emotional story of someone’s pain and the way that they were faced with insane obstacles but never give up on overcoming them.
