I think I'm just over this series. Like this wouldn't have been bad but why is it a Fear Street Saga book? What does it add to the canon or mythos of Fear Street? Stage magicians, an evil twin, a magic box...an ancient evil. Been there, done that. Flat characters and a useless plot...RL...don't ever put your name on something you haven't written again. Please.
I could have easily given this book three stars. I love Stine, but to be honest I felt something was missing from this book. I think Stine could have extended its pages and gone into more detail and mystery and made it an adult book. It could have been a real"hellraiser", but I felt it seemed rushed and a little on the predictable side but I am never disappointed with a Stine novel, just not my favorite.
3.5 stars - Carolyn takes a job with the Fear family where her mother previously worked and discovers a mysterious box known as the Chamber of Fears - as well as the fact that the Fears are unsurprisingly hiding a dark secret. The magician plot was an interesting approach to the story, and the Chamber itself was darkly intriguing. There aren't as many deaths included in the storyline compared to most of the other books.
I read the Sagas slightly out of order (13 and 14 before 12). My quest to read all of the Fear Street books has entered hard mode. I could not find this book anywhere, and my library wasn't able to do an Interlibrary Loan for it because even the libraries that showed they did have it, they said their copy was too old or damaged to send. Thriftbooks saved the day.
I think I liked the Fear Saga more than just plain old fear street the series just had more to it for me .... I really loved all the twisted tales from this series so much fun
I had an absolute blast reading all of these again in 2013 .... :)
Alright back to basics. This is decent. I think it would’ve been better to make Carolyn a part of the Goode family that way it links back to the original trilogy.
