This book not only gives a precise step-by-step description of the meditation technique at the heart of yoga but also puts it into context with all other yogic techniques and how they contribute to the break- through to spiritual freedom. Yogic meditation derives its power from the fact that it systematically suspends the entire processing capacity of the subconscious mind and diverts it towards meditation. The processing power of the subconscious mind is a multiple of that of the conscious mind. Simply watching breath or watching awareness involves only your conscious mind. For quick and effective concentration the entire power of the subconscious mind has to be harnessed. This is the secret of yogic meditation. You will also find information on the importance of Kundalini as support for meditation and the factors that make it rise, such as chakra and Sushumna visualization, mantra and breath. The text then explains how the chakras represent evolutionary stages of brain and mind development. Chakra meditation, if done in a sophisticated, high-powered way, will propel the evolution of the brain and mind of the practitioner and the awakening of higher intelligence.
Excellent work, explaining with great care and detail the process of entering into deep meditation following the yogic tradition. After 5 years of consistent yoga practice, I have learnt a lot from reading this book, and am extremely grateful to the author for laying down the path with such clarity. Following the path and methods explained in these different laws will, it is true, require time and commitment, but the results are literally mind-boggling. Unlocking the mystical dimension of consciousness is described here as a very methodical, step-by-step process that can be followed by anyone willing to put the time and effort necessary. The author emphasizes again and again the importance of playing in the long-time game, which I totally resonate with. Gradual and consistent progress are the key to real success. Another point I deeply appreciate in this work, is the emphasis on the necessity for service to the global human community. And the refusal to present liberation as an escapist solution from the suffering of this world, but rather as an act of devotion meant to bring love onto life on this planet. Also emphasized is the importance of fulfilling one's service/mission in this life before completing the spiritual journey, and I find, all things considered, that the author did an honorable job at reconciling the two aspects of existence - the absolute and the relative - weaving the spiritual quest for freedom into the unfoldment of this human life with its many components.
Thus, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Yoga, and anyone ready to commit to serious evolution of their soul. Having read and practiced the author's previous book on Pranayama helps in mastering the meditation technique laid out in this book. With deep gratitude to the author, and the spiritual tradition of Yoga. May all beings be happy and free
In my opinion this is the best book on meditation ever written. Everything is explained in great detail and a step by step fashion (system).
As the rest of Gregor's books this is probably not aimed for complete beginners & some aspects are explained in great detail in his other books. Saying this there are plenty of techniques, explanations & answers to questions that even a complete beginner would benefit from.
The most important thing while reading this book is not to let your ego drive your progress and stay at each step until you master it and then going to the next (maybe reading the book as whole once will also give you a general understanding if you return to the appropriate technique for you).
In his typical unparalleled, almost scientific fashion, Gregor provides a detailed step-by-step description of a Yoga meditation technique taught by T. Krishnamacharya. A powerful meditation technique where you can directly leverage your advances achieved in Asana an Pranayama. His profound knowledge in Yoga scripture and his own years of experience are reflected in every sentence. A real diamond among the vast amount of books on meditation.
This is an excellent book onYoga Meditation. One key takeaway for me from this book is the necessity to practice Yoga, Pranayama and meditation altogether to achieve spiritual freedom. While meditation is the key to reach spiritual freedom, this practice needs to be well grounded with Yoga and Pranayama, because the body is integrated with the spirit. Reaching for spiritual freedom while ignoring the body is not effective, even detrimental. I highly recommend this book to Yoga practitioners.
