John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
I love John MacArthur's study notes and feel like it has more "meat" to his explanations of Scripture as compared to other study bibles I have had or researched. I have been using this Bible for 14 years, but only recently switched to the NIV. Best. Bible. Ever.
If you love Jesus, the Bible is probably the best book you could read. Do you love, John MacArthur’s commentary, although there were definitely some discrepancies with other modern scholarly thinking. I think John MacArthur can sometimes be a bit arrogant and even a little mean. I’m sure that his goal is to win souls, and he is wanting to warn people, but it seems to be more about knowledge than he is about the heart. Seems to be more about legalism at times.
