This was my all time favorite book as a child. The entrancing idea of changing into a cat at night sparked my imagination. I love this book so much! I know it's not a classic but to me it's perfect.

Wendy is an 11 year old girl who loves cats. One day after school, she goes with her best friend Tina to a cat show. While there, the 2 young girls make the acquaintance of Mrs. Bast, who is the owner of a charm necklace that enchants Wendy. She wants it so much and offers to buy it from Mrs. Bast. Mrs. Bast refuses to sell it, warning Wendy of the powers the charm has. But Wendy is undeterred and seizes her chance when Mrs. Bast is distracted, to gain possession of the charm. She takes the charm and leaves $5 as payment.

At home, Wendy puts the charm around her neck. It is not an ordinary charm with a symbol on it in the shape of a cat's head. At the stroke of midnight, Wendy transforms into a large werecat. She leaps out of the open bedroom window to the ground and runs on all-fours through the neighborhood.

"Night of the Werecat" is an interesting story. Wendy again turns into a large cat the next night. In her human form, Wendy is anxious to get the charm off her neck. But - she is not able to REMOVE it. Oh no! Wendy is now locked in a struggle between her human and feline selves, with the latter self increasingly growing in influence with each passing day. It looks like she will be a werecat for the rest of her life.

What next? Read the book to find out.

Reading this was a guilty pleasure! I read this fun spooky read right after a more serious (and rather dull book) - and it was just perfect! I remember reading Fear Street books back in the late 80s or early 90s...so much fun! It's a fun and very quick read too... Yes, I had guessed who the other werecat was halfway through the story (not to mention it was totally easy to see what was going on) but that didn't bother me at all. The story was fun and that's what these books are about.

In this one Wendy loves cats but her family won't let her have one no matter how much she asks. She attends a cat show and an old woman tells her about a charm that will turn a person into a werecat! Of course she doesn't believe it...but she wants that charm anyway because she loves cats! So she takes it and soon weird stuff starts happening to her. She's been cursed! How can she break the curse of being a werecat...or is it too late?

Excellent writing as usual from Stine with a fast paced story and great descriptions!

Even though I'm not a big cat fan. This was totally one of my favorite reads when I was younger. I think this was actually one of the very first R.L. Stine books that I ever read as a child. As I figured it was the least scary of his collection. And do to the fact that I have always had an affinity for the dual nature of were animals. And the characters that turn into them. So to say the least. This was by far a truly good read for me where Stine was concerned. I'm still leery of his other works though, lol.

i love all of r.l. stine's book, and this is no exception. wendy takes a charm, against the wishes of the seller. what the seller warns her about is coming true! she tries to take the charm off, but can't. at the last moment, she finds the seller and she removes it. but it's too late for wendy, the transformation is complete.

"The Ghosts of Fear Street" was my favorite series when I was younger. They were really all great books, but I read them a long long time ago, so I don't remember much about them.

I think this is the second worst Ghosts of Fear Street I’ve read to date, second to Aqua Apes. I knew what I was getting myself into: a girl turns into a cat at night (or in other words, animorphs/furry slop). And I didn’t like it, which I wasn’t surprised by at all lol. But, I can credit some things: Wendy is a solid protagonist that actually has some mild character growth. Wasn’t expecting her to repent and learns from her mistakes a bit, but she did, and that was neat. The Werecat legend is a cool concept—and it makes sense, since we have WereWOLVES. I enjoyed the slight puberty allegory within this book (is that even a spoiler?) and I feel the twist was clever even if it was cock and ball torture. Speaking of… oh yeah, 65% of this book is meandering. When Wendy learns about her dilemma, it’s about sixty pages of, “I gotta get this charm off,” or, “I’m a Werecat again!” It’s a drag and really made the book feel directionless. Now for the climax… yeqøßŵN1;+\!—and in English, well, you don’t wanna know. It’s a semi-predictable outcome and the ending that follows was, as I said, cock and ball torture, even if it made sense and was kinda clever. It’s a good twist in itself, but a terrible ending no less. The characters aside from Wendy are forgettable, most of the book isn’t very memorable or interesting, and need I display my blatant disliking for these types of stories? Werewolves is one thing, but this… I mean the cat meowing dialogue just says it all lmao. Overall, 4/10. It’s pretty bad, but not mind-bogglingly irredeemable slop. This was not a book for me, but hey, it’s one that I wanted to get through. I got the ending spoiled to me years ago anyways lol.

I was not a huge fan of this book. I found the main character to be very annoying and insufferable at times, in fact almost every character in this book wasn't likable. The writing in this book was terrible. The only thing that made me able to finish this book was the last few chapters of the book were pretty suspenseful and made me want to know how the story ended. Then I got to the end of the book and wasn't impressed with the ending. This book just didn't work for me in so many ways and that surprised me because R.L Stine is one of my favorite authors, I usually enjoy his books even as an adult. I have a feeling this book may have been ghost written, which I know some of his books later on in his career were. unfortunately I'm giving this book 2 stars.

We watched Fear Street 1994 on Netflix and then I saw this on my shelf of old childhood books and I had to.

I won't rate this because I think my rating now versus my rating if I read this as a kid would be totally different. I thought the structure of this was super smart - short chapters, all ending on cliffhangers, constant action. If I had a kid who had a hard time focusing, I would definitely put this in their hands. I had fun reading this before bed, and I really didn't guess the ending even now. Now I wish it was Halloween!

25. A book with a time of day in the title

It's a kid's book, so I have to take it at face value for that. But this was a cute, lightly-spooky read! Perfect for Halloween season, since October 1st is tomorrow! Definitely a kid's book, and something I started and finished in maybe twenty mins. But I enjoyed it.

The cover of this book looked so familiar, but I can safely say after finishing it that I definitely never read this one as a kid. I would have remembered it for sure!

I actually really loved this, and the twist at the end was great!
