Three strong, beautiful women dish on their romantic and sexual exploits in Toronto, New York and Paris.
Erotica for the thinking woman, this well-written and sexy novel is driven by three gorgeous women on the prowl. Rose, Con, and Wanda, all disciples of the legendary Dorothy Parker, meet regularly for drinks to dish on their romantic and sexual exploits. From Toronto to Vancouver to Paris, these three strong, beautiful women are out to explore as many sexual possibilities as they can while also finding l’amour. Featuring shoes, martinis, clothes, champagne, and of course sex, The Gorgeous Girls is a smart, playful and delicious sexual extravaganza that delivers non-stop thrills and a great deal of fun.
I don't usually review books, I just read them. But I have to tell the world: this book is fabulous! I did the Fifty Shades thing (all 3) and I get why that was popular, but actually I found them kind of lame and sort of skimmed through parts. But this Marie Wilson knows how to write! Where did she come from? The Gorgeous Girls is not a sappy romance with a little sex thrown in. It's a full blown romp (as they used to say) through the escapades of three women like you or (I wish) like me. It's really a series of stories told by those three "gorgeous girls" about their lives, loves and exploits. It's well written, intelligent, surprising, cheeky, and the sex is really explicit and - I don't mind saying - pretty exciting. And throughout the book we get the treat of reading some of the biting and hilarious things written by Dorothy Parker, the famous New York writer known for her witty quips. She's the girls' hero, and I bet she'd love this book. I couldn't put it down. Well, truthfully, I had to put it down. But I picked it up again as fast as I could. I will read it again. More! Thanks, HarperCollins and thanks Marie Wilson. I'm a fan. The Gorgeous Girls
Three weeks after the e-book launches, The Gorgeous Girls remains at #1 Top Book and Marie Wilson is #1 Top Author on HarperCollins Canada's Most Popular Pages! There's a reason for that. It's billed as "erotica for the thinking woman" and it is. (By the way, aren't more men like me sneaking a peek at this sexy stuff?) There is plenty of intense sex action, but it is a satisfying experience on more levels than that. The book interlaces the lives of three women friends in their search for love and romance, as they confess their tribulations and conquests and share their mutual enthusiasm for the witty Dorothy Parker, shoes, cocktails and lustful adventure. No timid women here, no billionaires with handcuffs, just three smart women and their real-life stories. I see that one reader has described it as "sexy, fun, wild and yet still manages to delve into our deeper selves and desires." I couldn't say it better.
This novel has been described as the "thinking woman's erotica" and this is what initially drove me to pick it up. While I would generally agree with that statement, this book just wasn't for me. I must admit a bias here in that I think this entire genre is perhaps irrelevant to me as I prefer books with deeper meaning and insight.
When I was in my 20s, I enjoyed A.N. Roquelaure's (aka Anne Rice)Sleeping Beauty Trilogy and was hoping to find something similar (though perhaps I would no longer enjoy this trilogy as I once did). I attempted to read Lisa Garbiele's Secret and found the writing deplorable, the plot bland, and the characters completely unrealistic. I put it down after the second chapter and do not plan to return. After hearing reviews about the quality of writing in the Fifty Shades series, I just couldn't go there.
In Gorgeous Girls, Wilson demonstrates far greater writing talents than other author's who have been successful in this genre. The story and characters were comparable to the Sex and the City series and it was entertaining. I did finish this book, but I didn't take anything away from it. It was a time waster for me, but if you enjoy this genre, this book may be an excellent choice for you.

The insight Marie Wilson has about love and sex, humour, friendship, magic and intuition will captivate you, as it did me, and take you to a unique place, full of colour and exquisite experience. Wilson’s beautiful, skilled writing draws you in, as only writing which echoes truth can do. Its rare to find a book that combines humour with serious life issues- I actually laughed out loud in places! Thanks Marie Wilson!
Not finished reading yet, but can already see this is a humorous, sexy, well written novel..as one would expect from the pen of the talented author Marie Wilson.
loved the book; extremely well written; the imagery and descriptive writing kept my interest from start to finish; I hope to read more from Marie Wilson
Okay so can I just say WOW HOLY EFFING WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay rant over but for real this book left me breathless. Three women telling their story of romance, sex and trying to find that right person. I have to say that I absolutely loved this story. I love erotica but I love the fact that Marie was brave enough to write a book about women and what we really think and what we really do. Yes there are lots of books out there like this but this one is raw and so believable that I could not put it down. I think sometimes women can be prudes about what they want from a partner and if we are honest with ourselves we can be worse then men when it comes to what we want in our sex life.
For Rose, Con, and Wanda they tell us about their sexual romances and their sexual nightmares but it is really about three friends coming together to share their inner most sacred feelings and I for one could not put this book down. I laughed so hard at some of the things these women did but I also admired them for going for what they wanted and not worrying about anyone or anything.
If women are really honest with themselves they would admit that they hate when their partner can't make them orgasm and they like to be held and touched a certain way. If more women were honest with their mate they would be happy just like out trio here!
Wonderful original hot sexy writing. Three real women with realistic life problems, dreams, adventures and lustful conquests. Crisp and energetic with strong characters. No fairytale plot here. You won't have read another book like this one. So treat yourself. Read this one.
By the time I finished the first chapter of this book, I had to put it down. For a moment. I just wanted to relish the um, almost forgotten sensations that my body was suddenly experiencing. After a short repose, I picked the book back up again and did not put it down until I was finished. The book came my way at a most opportune moment, having finally released the last vestiges of a love lost long mourned. I was alive! There is so much exquisite sensory detail in Marie's prose with her generous dashing of Dorothy Parker's intellectual spice allows one the space to familiarize, ponder, and fantasize... I will keep this book at bedside and likely read it over and over again...when the mood strikes ;) Marie's Gorgeous Girls is a MUST READ for anyone, female or male, who wish to kick off their shoes, (and whatever else) lie back and savour a delicious, highly erotic adventure!
I shall never look at a Cherry Tree the same way again. Loved the Dorothy Parker quotes. I am a fan of hers now, as well. The last four chapters, or so of this book are really excellent, IMO.
Let me put it this way: if you don't like my review, don't leave nasty comments that personally attack me. You will be reported. This is my opinion on this book. If you liked the book, good for you. I didn't, and this review states just that. Again, if you personally attack me for not liking this book, you will be reported. I've already done it.
Three women: Constance ("Con"), Wanda and Rose. Modern time. Dorothy Parker worshipers. Sound good? No? Well that's because it isn't.
Vaunted as "erotica for the thinking woman", I'm a bit offended. I think. I think a lot. I thought a lot of things while reading this book. The biggest one was "why am I reading this book?". Why is this erotica for the thinking woman? Because the author quotes Dorothy Parker EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER? Most of the quotes don't even make sense with the chapter. She's just throwing out quotes to reiterate that there's a bunch of gay love for Ms. Parker (or "Dot", as these women refer to her as, making it seem like they were buddies).
Much like the cringing "inner goddess" of Fifty Shades, these three women consider themselves "Gorgeous Girls". That means, they think they are gorgeous girls, therefore they are gorgeous girls. Riiiight. I'm now going to think I win the lottery. Let's see if it works.
One of the most disturbing things in this book is Rose having sex with a tree. What????? Wouldn't she have some serious problems in her vaginal area post-tree sex? I mean, she's orgasming from sitting on a tree branch. Seriously. What is the deal? And the bugs, too. Ick.
There are too many thigh-high fishnets. NO ONE but a girl working on her back wears thigh-high fishnets every freaking day. Yet, here these women are. Wearing thigh-high fishnets on their "creamy thighs" and (surprise!) getting the attention of men. Wow. Who would have guessed it.
I think the thing that bothers me even more than the supposed "thinking woman's erotica" is the fact that these are supposed to be real women, smart, intelligent, and beautiful. The only thing I can think of is "Sex & the City" meets "Golden Girls". This is post-Carrie, pre-Blanche writing at it's peak. I hate to say "finest" because this book is anything but fine.

Bottom line: If you are coming up on 60 and like to read erotica, this may be the book for you. If you know who Dorothy Parker is and you worship her and call her "Dot" because you are so familiar with her, this may be the book for you. If you wonder what Blanche, Rose and Dorothy were like before Golden Girls, this may be the book for you. IMO, this book is not worth the time it takes to download it and read it.
The book concept seems to be "erotica for the thinking women" I'm not sure how well that describes this book but I thought the book was humorous and sexy and it wasn't too long so it flowed nicely. It was very unique and intriguing book, very hot in some parts and funny in others. A lot of hot guys that's for sure.. This book is fun to read and keeps you smiling, great characters (they must be fun to hang with) love the legendary Dorothy Parker who the ladies want to emulate. Would recommend if your looking for a shorter book with hot sex and hot hot hot guys. 4 stars review by Upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
Gorgeous Girls is 4 stars of pure amazing... These 3 women lead the life that most women hope for.. who wouldn't like to meet gorgeous men from all over the world and do unmentionable things with them. This book has sex, humor, and just all out fun. It's a light read that will keep you entertained! So don't miss out on these adventures and the sexcapades these women go through if you do you will regret it ;) ~ Raquel
I wanted to love this book I really did, but I just spent too much time being confused. At the beginning of each chapter, there's a quite from someone named Dorothy Parker. First off, who's Dorothy Parker? Second, the quotes didn't have anything to do with the chapters. Told based on the lives of multiple women, this book is told in several parts. These women half way through the book call themselves the Gorgeous Girl, but I don't really get that because just thinking that doesn't really make it true. If I close my eyes and wish for something REALLY hard doesn't mean that I am going to get that thing.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was going on in these characters lives. Some of the parts were good but others I just honestly couldn't figure out what was going on. There was just too many things going on at the same time. This would have been great if each girl had their own book with their own stories not one book with three different women and each of their chapters placed apart from all the others.
I really wish I could say I loved this book, but to me this wasn't erotica. I've read plenty of erotica and this was a little too old fashioned for my taste. When I think of erotica I think of authors such as Cherise Sinclair or Nicole Edwards. For me unfortunately it just fell short of the mark. I don't give it a one because the idea behind the book and the writing itself was good and it has great potential but I can't give it a three because it just wasn't the right book for me.

This book was very different from anything I’ve read before. There isn’t a plot/storyline which is what I have read for a better part of my life. It was about these three women, Con, Rose & Wanda, who are best friends. The Gorgeous Girls is broken down into seven parts and each woman shares about a sexual experience they’ve had or is having. I would put this book in the category of “light” erotica, since I have read other erotica novels before that were a lot more explicit. It did pull me in once I started reading but I was still left feeling like “what did I just read?”
What I did enjoy was how these women would get together once in awhile and have these discussions regarding sex. They are way more open and free with what they share with each other than I would with my close friends. I have never experienced this type of openness with my friends and wonder if other women have talked about their sexual experiences with their besties. Personally, I think mine would look at me differently if I ever revealed what I have done or experienced. So I’ll just stay mum about it. I’d be curious to know what other readers will take away from this novel.
With all of the back and forth, I kept getting confused while I read this. I honestly am still not sure about one of the characters... Did the author write her to (basically) live three different lives in the span of her one? Despite the confusion, I did like the characters, and their Sex in the City type of friendship.
I prefer a book with a story of some sort . . . this was just laughably odd in some places but there was not enough of a story to really be interesting for me.
