Katrine MacNamara was defined by two roles--wife and mother.
When one of those roles is suddenly stripped from her, she is forced to re-evaluate her place in the world. She needs to get her life back on track, a life of her own.
What are the next logical steps, as a newly single 35 year old woman?
1. Put the kibosh on crying sessions in the fetal position.
2. Start using maiden name.
3. Jump start her non-existent career.
The last item is the tricky one. She is determined to stand on her own two feet without her ex's money. But since she has spent the last decade at home raising her son, her moth eaten resume has been collecting dust.
When Katrine lands a high profile assignment for the summer. Although short term, the experience would add some much needed prestige to her anemic resume.
She is eager to rise to challenge. Little does she know that part of the challenge would be her new boss.
During a night full of laughs and margaritas, her friends urge her to get back out into the dating scene. A rebound fling is just what she needs to get her feet wet.
Katrine is leery to say the least and is not sure is she is ready. She wonders if a man even fits into her new life. Not to mention the fact that being naked in front of someone new was beyond petrifying.
But when a man from the past enters her life and as she grows closer to her new boss, she is forced to re-evaluate the whole fling concept.
Does she go for casual or does she commit? Can she even do casual? She always listens to her heart, maybe it was time to start listening to other parts of her anatomy.
As she navigates her new single life she has to decide what defines her. And with help from her nutty sister, hilarious friends and plethora of fermented grapes— she just might find that she is willing to forgo lust and even love, if it means compromising her new found identity.

****4.5 Sexy Stars****

I had this book on my TBR and on my wish list on Amazon for a while, just by reading the blurb I just knew it was the type I book I would enjoy reading, Im happy to report that it exceeded my expectations.

Rebound is a about a thirty five year old woman named Katrine, that has just been blindsided by her husband's request for a divorce, "But ...we are happy?" it's what she thought, they have a great home, a beautiful and sharp son, what else is there? truth to be told, she knew in her heart that she wasn't happy either, and she was just living and making the best of her content life. Unfortunately for her this unexpected event is what took for her to get out there again and find herself and also fight for her natural right at happiness. Next on the agenda for Katrine is to get a job, because she doesn't want to rely on alimony and child support for too long; and thanks to a friend's recommendation she gets a job as the PA of a very successful and of course Tall, dark ,handsome man, who is a bit full of himself ( just like we like them...) oh! and he drives a Ducati motorcycle...*clears throat- anyways, after getting started on the wrong foot with his new assistant, Xander realizes what an insensitive prick he was being to Katrine and also can't help but notice how he can't stop thinking about her. After things settle down in the professional department they decide to be more polite around each other and at the same time both get honest about how heavy is the sexual tension between them. Katrine needs a rebound to finally get her ex out of her system and she agrees to have a fling with her sexy new boss, before he has to return to NYC.

This heroine has an amazing support system, I swear this is an author after my own heart, there were so many scenes I though she had just copied out my life and the things my friends and I talk about when we get together over wine. This book is a bit of a sexy modern office fairytale, Xander was so romantic, and he would do and say the most amazing things, definitely fictional boyfriend material.

Honestly nothing would have prepared me for the twist at the end, totally came out of left field, and I loved the story even more because of it. I had so much fun reading this book, I really felt connected to the characters and I sure hope there will be another book for this story. 4.5 sexy stars, I can't wait to read more books from this author.

***Thanks to the author for a copy to review***

Dont know why but I am a total sucker for office romance novels (It must be that I work with a right load of munters and I know it will never happen to me.....)

The book starts out with Katrine's hubby telling her he wants a divorce so after sulking and getting over it for a few months she decides to pull her head out of her arse and get back to work.

Her boss Xander is a total prat! He's rude, big headed and just plain ignorant.

But being the funny sweet woman she is, she manages to crack his asshole persona and the real Xander comes out (who is very very nice)

Its decided that the 2 will have a 6 week no strings attached, sex only fling, now we all know where this leads to......

The supporting characters in the book were fab! Her son Teddy is so sweet and the things he says to his Mum are adorable, and her sister Maddie (I think that was her name....) was funny and straight to the point. And then there is Ian, the totally adorable old friend who's been cushing on Katrine for years and wants nothing more than to be with her.

Now I presume there will be another book in this series as it didnt really finish on a cliffy but the story is far from over.....

Overall I give this story 4 stars. It a great debut novel and I hope there isnt too much of a wait for book 2 :)

This review is from: Rebound (Kindle Edition)

I love this book! I couldn't love this anymore than I do now. It has all the good elements we are looking for in a romantic, sexy, full of drama story and best part is, it's hilarious. You would relate easily with Katrine and all the characters...her gang of thirty something witty, smart and funny girlfriends. They'd have this Friday night get together, have dinner and drinks and hear them bashing their other halves and compare each other's sexcapades. One memorable funny scene was when they were discussing an erotica romance book they have read and they all sneered and jeered on why are all hero penis's are all huge, why can't they just have regular sizes and why are all the heroine's all having multiple orgasms. One very funny quote "pullizz, I'm lucky enough if my husband can be there long enough to give me one" ( this I know we can all relate to since we read this type of books, LOL ) Prepare to laugh so hard you'll get a stitch on your sides ( they are definitely my new book girlfriends now ) I would really love to hang out with all this ladies, to have friends like them would be a blessing. You will fall in love with Katrine, she's witty, smart mouthed bad-ass attitude, beautiful, sincere no frills and very funny. The way she lights up when she talks about her 10.yr old son is so adorable and touching. Oh and Xander, one hell of a hot, sexy, romantic everything you want in book boyfriend, oh yeah! I've never been to hell but Hot dang...this is hotter than hell!

I did not want this to end, although it had 345 KB it just was not enough, you want more. You'll be so touched in the end you wanna scream noooooo! please don't end this, not yet...say there is a sequel, please, sequel! okay,okay, I'll shut up now and be quiet............... Seeeqquelll!

Original Review, March 2013: Just finished and I am in love with these characters! Katrine for her strong, endearing, inspiring, passionate and witty characteristics! Xander for his dominant but passionate demeanor, he is a dream come true and heartache wrapped up together! But that is why this book takes on a “real life fairytale”…real life is never perfect and I do find that to be a huge refresher portrayed in Rebound.

Katrine, newly divorced, 30-something mother is someone so many can relate to. When her assinine of a husband leaves her for someone new, she starts at a job thinking she will be building her dusty resume. Little does she know that job will lead to huge building blocks in her life for her career AND her heart, by meeting Xander. They change and shape each others hearts…this a great story of a rebound!

There was some beautiful passion, kisses that make your knees weak, heart warming moments…I did not want it to end!

All the characters were so fun and real…I would love to have a glass of wine with Katrines girls Maddie, Charlie, or Tristan…they portray those friends you just can’t live without!

I must say I am only slightly disappointed because I now must wait to find out what happens for Kristine? I must have more Xander and Katrine!!

Second time around, August 2013: I think I am in love with this story even more the second time around! This story keeps me laughing and swooning throughout. Now I really can't wait for the second book of Nikki Mathis Thompson, and I am cetain it will not disappoint if it portrays all the same witty and passionate character's Rebound has.

Are you ready for a real life fictional story of trust, regret, love, personal growth, passion, and fun?
This is IT!
A must read with two thumbs up!

I almost passed this book up because it's a series, it would have been my loss to miss out on a great book.
Katrine is 35 and married with a child, when her husband comes home one day and wants a divorce...David just doesn't ask for a divorce he also says:

“For what it’s worth, I haven’t slept with her. I respect you too much for that.”

Thanks David you just don't want a divorce, but you're a honorable cheater. Katrine is a mature strong woman she stands and walks away. We meet her son Teddy, and I must say I fell in love with the little guy.

Mom, I won’t like her if don’t want me to.”
“I’m on your side, and I think what dad did was crappy. Who could be better than you? I just don’t get it.”
Katrine is a loving mom and she never spoke badly of David to her son, she took the mature way, and it was good to see. We have her sister Maddie, and she has a tongue on her, and she is great support for her sister.
Xander is the sexy male, and he does the unthinkable to Katrine.I liked that through everything, Katrine was put through she knew her woman's worth. I know what Xander did was wrong, but I'm hoping for a HEA for him and Katrine. I can't wait to read the next book and anything else this author might write. It was great to see mature older people !!!!!

I loved this book!!

I read it because sometimes I like to switch it up and read about the older people. Sometimes the immaturity of the teens I read about can kinda annoy me so I need to step back and read about some older people with some sense. They been through enough and don't have time for the BS.

35?? Newly divorced?? Looking for a rebound?? Count me in!!

I just ADORE a story about finding love, and finding yourself right along with it. And this book did just that for me.

And everyone knows I'm a sucker for a book that can throw it some hilarious punchlines!!

No cliffhanger (which I also love)

However there is room to continue this story...

In conclusion.... This book was the shit!!

I absolutely loved this book! It is a breath of fresh air as far as typical romance books go. The charaters seemed more relatable to me than most books have to me in quite awhile. This book is LOL funny, heartbreaking, sexy etc etc. The way it ended made me wonder if this may have another story. If so sign me up. I haven't enjoyed reading a book so much in quite awhile. Thanks for a great read!!

I was pleasantly surprised with this book because it was an unexpected treat! It was a nice change of pace for me because I usually favor dark and edgy reads but this was light and funny but with just a pinch of angst.

I do think the relationship of Xander and Katrine started off too quickly and it felt a little insta-love when there should have been more push and pull between them. Their attraction starts off in the workplace and as it progresses, there’s a lot of PDA happening in the office. I’m all about fiction and suspending my disbelief but that setting should have allowed for the thrill of the chase. Those were the only two concerns I had about the story, the rest I absolutely enjoyed!!

What makes this such a refreshing read is that it’s about a woman who is starting over. She’s not a freshman in college. She’s over 30 who is a divorcée with a son and she’s testing the waters with Xander and it’s a huge gamble because she’s also entering the workforce again. Not to mention he’s her boss, yes it’s a little predictable but just go with it.

Katrine is surrounded by a wonderful group of friends and that includes her sister. Some of the best dialogue comes from them spending time together and it felt so real, because those are the same exact conversations I’ve had with my girlfriends. It was during those moments I was snorting with laughter and I was completely lost in the story.

I thought the ending was absolutely perfect which made this read such a fantastic surprise because in life nothing is perfect and no one recovers from being hurt overnight. What you can expect from this book is really good writing and a fluid story. This is Nikki Mathis Thompson’s debut novel and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next!

~~~~~3.5 solid stars~~~~~
This book is about Katrine, a 35 year old woman who is trying to pull herself together and create a life of her own after a traumatic and emotional divorce. She is a mom to a 10 year old son, and has stayed at home since he was born. I like this theme because I think it's just interesting and different. Her situation is very relatable. In my personal opinion, this book is more about Katrine and her journey to re-invent herself than it is a romance novel, and I think if you can embrace that the book is very enjoyable.
My favorite part of the book was Katrine's relationship with her friends and her sister. I can't think of anything that will keep the girl talk going more than a cheating asshat of an ex-husband. I thought the girl talk was relatable and funny.
There is a big twist toward the end that I didn't see coming. I have to give this author points for not being predictable.
My opinion on Xander is that I have no special love for him. This is what I say to Xander....
Seriously..
I am curious how the next book will play out. I wasn't happy about the situation with Ian either.
If you're looking for a sexy, funny read with a bit of drama & a real life feel then this is the book for you! Newly divorced Katrine is about to take on the most difficult task a woman can face….entering the dating scene at 30+ years old, as a mom. Granted, dating isn't exactly what she's got on her mind but its close enough. While her son is away for the summer, Katrine has decided to take on a temporary job working for Alexander Abbott, Jr who at first seems like a total prick (excuse my french). I didn't consider him rebound material at all, until he proved otherwise of course. They know nothing serious can come of their "relationship" since Xander will be returning home (to New York) once his business is finished, but their short lived romance is fun and super intense nonetheless.
I absolutely loved this cast of characters! Katrine and her friends are freakin hilarious, and the men aren't too shabby either. I seriously lost count of how many times I laughed out loud while reading. Even though the story loses its steam every once in a while, its still easy to get into and definitely enjoyable.
That ending nearly killed me! I seriously did not see that HUGE twist coming, but in a way I'm glad it did. Even though it wasn't your typical happily ever after, and some may not think its HEA at all, I like the way it all turned out. Especially since it seems as though Ms. Thompson left off in a way that hinted towards a second book….or maybe that's just my wishful thinking!
wow- This book was recommend by a friend. I truly enjoy this book. Its writing was very interesting. This book takes you to a different place in your life.
Katrine was a wife that thought that her life was perfect. A mother to a beautiful son and a wife to a doctor. Never would she of thought that her husband one day would tell her that is over. He has fallen in love with someone else and that he wanted a divorce. Katrine never in a million years thought that her marriage would be over like this.
Katrine learn to move on and try to forget this nightmare ever happen. She wanted to be independent but that was hard at the time. She was still receiving financial alimony from her ex-husband. She later on decided to become the working mom. Never thinking that would change her completely.
Katrine was able to get a summer temp job to help her get her feet wet in the Market world. Not knowing that this was a summer she would never forget.
This book has love, an adventure and good ending. Is there such thing in Love at first site or we think we are in love and show it all the wrong ways. I really enjoy it.
Katrine and her life sounds like friends I would hang out with. Her life problems seem to be common but with a fun and interesting twist. I was so interested to find out what happens at the end, I started up until I finished the book.
Katrine is newly divorced with a young son. He goes away for the summer and she has time to get her life back in order after being cheated on by her husband and ultimately divorced. Her summer romance turns into more but in the end....well, I guess I cannot say that part.
Read this book and you will enjoy a light read with some awesome music selections and good food ideas. This book definitely made me hungry for more.
Enjoy!
It was when I reached the end of the novel that I decided that instead of four stars, I was giving “Rebound” five huge stars instead. This is just one of those novels that got better and better as I read on. So refreshing (and prefer) to read stories about 35-year olds instead of young & new adults. It’s because of this that the novel came across as more realistic, even relatable; at times bringing forth different emotions from its readers. Nikki Thompson (“Thompson”) does an amazing job of creating a female heroine in Katrine who goes on a journey of self-discovery. It’s thru the support of her son, her sister, and her close-knit group of friends and what she learned from her job, and from the ups-and-downs of her relationships that she is able to move on as a divorced, single-parent; to let go of the past; and move on to a brighter future whether that includes a new love or not.
Thompson definitely delivers a well-developed story full of drama, romance, sexual chemistry, and laughter; and throwing into the mix an array of colourful supporting characters. The conversations she and her girlfriends had – how many of us have not had the same ones? There were times I burst out loud because so much of it is so true. It was actually refreshing to read in bold print some of the thoughts I’ve shared with my girlfriends. Chapter 7 has it all.
“And can you tell me what in the hell is it with all of those orgasms those chics have? I mean two, three, sometimes four mind-blowing, eye rolling “releases”, during one sexual encounter. That is just morally irresponsible.”
Then there’s Xander. What can I say except I’m all for team Xander. I know, I know – there’s also Ian who’s in the picture, but I really think he’s more of a friend to Katrine than a possible lover no matter how much he’d rather be the latter. There’s absolutely no chemistry between the two. Can you tell how much I don’t like him as Katrine’s love interest? There were times I tried to hate Xander thinking him to be too controlling or too demanding; but in the end I loved everything about him, even the way he demanded things. Xander’s an alpha-male to a degree, but not one that’s over-the-top, ridiculous, hard-core alpha-male (which I can’t stand). Everything he said and asked for just endeared me to him. (Hey, we all have our differences when it comes to sexy men.) I thought him and Katrine were terrific for each other; you could feel the heat between them. I really appreciated how Thompson developed his character; how his interest in Katrine grew from just a passing interest to falling head-over-heels in love with her; how he wanted to spend not just the nights but the mornings and days with her; how scared he was when he realized he was in love with her and didn’t know how to handle it as he’d never experienced that before. But alas, like so many others he screwed up too. Between the two protagonists at the heart of the story, it was Xander that came across as the most intriguing and thought-provoking character in my opinion. He grew on me and when I reached the end I was hooked. Unlike the way so many novels end with their HEA’s, Thompson deviates from this, instead ending it with the most insightful and moving words from Xander’s POV. I must have read those last few paragraphs a dozen times. You could really feel everything Xander was going thru. I’m hoping that Katrine will give Xander a second chance and that Xander won’t let his pride stop him from going after Katrine.
There are those who didn’t like the way the novel ended. I actually thought the ending was done well and intelligently written.
“By the way, love… it isn’t a mystery and it isn’t hard. You just do it. You love someone and let them love you back, a no-brainer.”
“The cold hard truth of the matter is... I don’t have the time... the energy... nor the inclination to teach you how to have a grown- up relationship. I’ve been through too much! And honestly I am just too damn old to bother. You’re just going to have to grow up all on your own.”
Reaching the end I felt the story was complete; that it doesn’t need a sequel. However, it is also because of the way it ended that a sequel would work and knowing this, I had to confirm if there would be a second book; if Xander and Katrine will end up together; or if there would be a new love interest for her, for him. After contacting the author, I’m happy to say that a second book is in the works (happy dance time). I’m crossing my fingers and toes for Xander all the way. Did you hear that Ms. Thompson? Xander all the way.
In the end a book I highly recommend. I can’t wait for the next installment. It can’t come soon enough. Congrats Ms. Thompson on your debut novel, a brilliant read.
5 Independent and Strong Stars
Ok I went back and forth with whether I was going to give this book 4 stars or 5 stars. The reason why I was going to give it 4 stars because I thought the relationship between Xander and Katrine developed a bit too quickly. But finally I settled on giving it 5 whopping stars because it's the one book that I know that I would re-read when I am in the mood of trying something different in life, taking chances on something that I am scared of, or just simply going through a heart wrenching breakup where I need a steamy romance to help get myself back together! This book has all these things and it's one of the few romance books I have read where it's not a predictable ending where everything is resolved and wrapped up neatly without a crease in sight. Katrine is someone that I totally relate to in so many ways and she is the kind of person that would probably end up being my best friend. The way she dealt with this incredibly difficult divorce is definitely similar to how I would handle it, her mentality (Glass of wine and getting lost in a book is totally more fun than going out.) and I love how strong she was in the outside but also fell apart just like anyone else would in such a life altering situation.
"Katrine had the ability to speak, she would have asked her where Flounder and Sebastian were, but speech alluded."
In Rebound,the character Katrine begins with her husband making an unwelcome confession. He announced that he was seeing someone and wanted a divorce. Katrine was completely dumbfounded by this declaration and even more after the asshole told her that he is seeing someone else! (Oh and she is a hot british woman with red hair! Kill me now!) Immediately Katrine was completely broken and didn't know how to get out of her funk. Everything in her life was built around having a family and being a stay at home while her husband worked as a successful doctor. Now that the divorce was finalized she was still depending on her ex-husband's income that she got out of the divorce and she didn't want to rely on his money anymore. She wanted to be the ultimate independent woman and stop crying in a fetal position. Katrine decided to take a summer job as a temp for your typical egotistical and snotty boss with the very commanding name Xander who thinks that New York is the center of the universe. At first there is the hot and bothered sexual tension between the secretary and demanding boss that we all know and love!
"She would not think about her cantankerous boss nor his hazel, mostly green eyes. Ok completely failing at not thinking.
After many failed attempts at ignoring the intense sexual attraction that she has to Xander and many glasses of wine with her best friends coaxing her to jump him she decides to rebound Xander...and may I say MULTIPLE TIMES!!! Of course as I said before Katrine and I have the same mentality when it comes to having a rebound and she quickly realizes that the relationship means much more to her than such a simple hook up. Xander starts realizing that he is falling for her as well but after the summer is over he has to be back to New York, New York which further complicates things but that's what makes life interesting right?
"She smiled and loudly sang along, "Cuz every little thing's, gonna be alright!"
To say that I identified strongly with the character Katrine is an understatement! We both have the same love of trying new and eclectic food, have an unhealthy obsession with reading while drinking wine, and we both have awesome taste in music! ;) The playlist is my all time favorite so far hands down! Kings of Leon, Radiohead, Muse, Pearl Jam, Bob Marley is hands down the perfect playlist to get over a breakup and feel fabulous again! And I thank Nikki Mathis Thompson to introducing me to The Civil Wars...Poison and Wine is just a heartbreaking and beautiful song. One of my favorite scenes was when Katrine is running and listening to "Three Little Birds" because this was the moment where she finally felt in her own skin again. I believe the moment where she was singing along at the top her lungs to the tune, "Cuz every little things, gonna be alright," is the one moment where she truly found herself. I think that everyone can identify with trying to achieve that moment of self-clarity that puts everything together and that's what makes this book so meaningful to me.
See my casting for Xander and Katrine @...By the way I changed my blog from Neverending Words to Catfairy's Book Shelf!
I found this story very relatable! The main character Katrine is closer to my age...a sassy sole parent who is determined to get her life heading in the right direction after her husband decides he wants a divorce.
With the Summer holidays up and her son Ted going away with his grandparents, Katrine realises this is the perfect time to re-establish herself as more than a mum and wife, it's time to put her college degree to work.
After snagging a job for the Summer, Katrine meets her new boss, Xander. His arrogance and self absorbed attitude does not deter Katrine, if anything made her more determined to prove she has what it takes regardless of what Xander might think.
By the end of the first week Katrine has saved Xander a pretty penny by discovering some mismatches in the financial documents she was looking through. This is the turning point for Xander and his slow growth in respect toward Katrine. It is from this point that they both slowly give in to the chemistry bubbling between them, agreeing that they will simply enjoy each other for the period of her employment...
We all know that that is easier said than done. What happens when Xander realises that he has fallen for Katrine? Can Katrine play the love and leave them type? This is a story of heartbreak, self discovery, learning to love again and TRUST. A fantastic read, but I will be honest there were tears toward the end...I hope in all that is good in the world that Ms Thompson has more to tell in the story of Katrine and Xander.
A book that you must have in your library! Loved every last word of it and I know you will too!!!
I loved this book! Ms. Thompson successfully wrote mature characters with real lives and real problems. It was quite refreshing to read about a 30-something single mom facing life after divorce. Katrine MacNamara is a relatable character that you want to have as your friend. Speaking of friends, O.M.G….the scenes where Katrine is having girl time with her group of friends (yes, even Tristan, her male hairdresser) are hands down the funniest I’ve read. I laughed out loud many times while reading this book! Without giving any spoilers, I’ll just say be on the lookout for rotisserie chicken, Summer’s Eve, pliers vs. male parts and umm….female “toy” references! Katrine’s “inter-cranial” conversations are a hoot, too! What about the male lead, you ask? Enter Xander Abbot, Mr. Hate him/love him/hate him again, rich hottie himself! He’s definitely the guy who triggers some red flags, but he’s kind of irresistible! There were a couple of important scenes that as I read I thought happened rather quickly, and I would have preferred more time given to them. However, looking back on the story now, I think the quickness of those scenes contributed to the realness of the story, and for that I appreciate them. Rebound is the kind of book you choose for your book club, read while sipping on your favorite glass of wine and discuss with your friends while laughing your behinds off! Oh, and the ending? Two words. Subtle brilliance. I am definitely a fan, Ms. Thompson, and am eagerly anticipating your next book!
Although the girl meets jerk boss turned lover plot was a little bit predictable, I enjoyed the author’s ability to add layers to the story. The storyline takes one step further by examining the main character’s connections not only with her lover but with her ex husband, her friends, her mother and her son. This book brings together on a mix of the old and new. As Katrine learns to maneuver her way into the new world of love and career, she has her steady group of friends who provide her with the support that she needs to retain a part of herself. Katrine’s friends give her the confidence to know that she deserves more from Xander. Katrine’s love for her son also enables her to keep from recoiling from her everyday life. Her relationship with her mother, although the least explored, provides dimension to the values that Katrine embodies as a daughter. The book is also fluent and well written.
I loved the ending of this story. Short of giving anything away, I choked up with the realization that relationships and pain and hurt and trust take time to heal in real life. Sometimes, one book isn’t enough to portray what really happens when marriages end and new love develops. Change seldom happens overnight and its process is anything but standard. I can’t begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to Nikki Thompson’s second book.
OMFG....What did I just do to myself. I know I fell in love with a strong independent woman who when pushed down pushed right back up and said FU to the world. Or at least to her slimy ex-husband,(Mr. I haven't had sex with her yet, I wouldn't do that to you, I want a divorce scum bag)..
Nikki Mathis Thompson has made her mark on the writer's map! She nailed it, no pun intended! The first of the Rebound series gets 5 stars from me. And I hope there many more to follow! There is way more to love about her characters Katrine, Xander and even Ian, I can't wait to see the drama continue! The story line sucks you in definitely wanting more. Katrine is left to find her way throughout her new life as a single mom, while trying to figure out the do's and don'ts of dating all at the same time she is embracing the corporate world. Rebound is totally relatable. ..to most anyway!
There is something organic about Thompson's writing. .. she's fresh, funny and has an edginess about her style that just makes you feel cool while reading! Her wittiness, sarcasm and love for music booms in her writing. Too many to count laugh out loud moments are a natural strength of Thompson's. Fun read. Great job!
I was given an arc copy for an honest review
WoW from the prologue I was left heartbroken for katrine, and found myself crying! I loved the style of writing with pov's from the main characters which left me chuckling listening to their inner ramblings........I connected to this book emotionally all the way through hence the WoW but omg it made me so angry as well, I literally growled/shouted at the book no no no, having my own mini breakdown over certain situations. This is a beautiful heartbreaking story which I found quick and easy to read.
I loved this book! Nikki did an excellent job describing these characters and making you feel as though you were watching it play out in front of you. I'm truly hoping there will be a sequel so I can find out what happens further with these characters! It was a easy, enjoyable read, with relatable characters and a great story line! If you are in need of a new romance novel grab this one, you will not be disappointed!!
Ok- it's a little rough around the edges. Many mistakes with improper word usage (example- using where for were and wear instead of where) not so great punctuation and the writing doesn't always flow well.
I said at 50% I was unimpressed. And I was. The last few chapters got me though. I freaking LOVED the ending. I was so proud of Katrine for standing up for herself and making a realistic decision!! Thank you for that Ms Author Lady!! That saved this from being a 3 star review. :-)
This book needs to be the next "it" book. It has everything a great romance book should have, likable characters who you route for. Hot and steamy scenes and the author writes the emotions that Katrine goes through so well, that as I read I can totally feel for what she goes through. It was one of those books that you read that when it's over, you go through book withdrawal! I cannot wait to read more for Nikki Mathis Thompson!
Katrina's character reminded me of myself after my divorce although I did not have a child. I could relate to not being in the dating world & then recreating my life & work life. Katrine is real, funny & intelligent. Xander is sexy & seems to have the whole package. Too good to be true?! I enjoyed Nikki's fresh take on these characters. Also must say loved the scene where she confronts him. I do not want to give a spoiler. A fun & sexy read! Looking forward to her next book.
I really enjoyed the book. It was refreshing to have a 35 yr old. I enjoyed the characters together and could have used more so I'm glad there is more. I will read it when it comes out. I need more history on Xander. The story was somewhat predictable but really easy to read and refreshing to have a H/h relationship that seem to work without all the angst
I loved this book! I didn't want it to end. The author developed the character's in such a realistic way that you could relate to many of their feelings. I felt like I really got to know them and i could have easily seen myself as one of Katrine's friends. it was down to earth, funny, and heart wrenching all bundled together. I highly recommend reading this novel and can't wait for the next one!
