Krishna Ki Atmkatha #5- खांडव दाह by Manu Sharma- In Part IV, Krishna locates Pandavas residing as village based Brahmins in Panchal Kingdom. In Panchal, King Drupad has organized swayamvar of his daughter beautiful daughter Draupadi. Her brother Dristdumna has made the arrangement of stay of all kings and also supervises the swayamvar arrangements. All Kings of the Country have been invited to attend and participate. A competition has been organized in which a fish is hanging from a rotating machine. Water is falling in a tray below the fish. The suitor king has to aim at the eye of the fish while viewing the image of the rotating fish in tray filled with water. As the water falling in the bowl makes it difficult for the participant to aim at the fish. The Bow is known as Pinak. Five arrows can be aimed by one contestant. From Kuru clan, Durodhana, Karn, Shakuni, Duryodhana’s uncle and Prince of Gandhar, Shri Krishna from Yadavas of Dwarika, Jarasandh King of Magadh and all other kings were present. Durupadi and Dhristaduman have been born after a Yagn performed by King Drupad. The reason for performing this Yagn was that Drupad and Drona have learnt at the Ashram of the same Guru but after attaining the throne of Panchal, Drona arrives to meet him, Drupad does not greet him affectionately and considers him a begging brahim. Drona trains the Kuru and the Pandus in art of war and use of arms and ammunition. For Guru dakshina, he wishes to have Drupad defeated. Kurus are unsuccessful while Pandavas with Arjuna defeat Drupad. Dupad organizes a yagn to get a son who will kill Drona. In Paanchal, brave Arjuna disciple of Dronacharya is the preferred bridegroom for Draupadi. Kshatriya Kings try first but they all fail. Duryodhana asks Karn to move to the dias to participate. Draupadi refuses to marry Karn as he is not the son of a Kshtriya King. When Kshatriya kings fail, Brahmins are invited. Krishna recognizes Arjuna and the Pandavas. Arjuna, dressed as a Brahmin aims at the fish and succeeds in hitting the eye while viewing revolving image in the bowl. Draupadi is married to five Pandava brothers. Dhritrashtra is informed about this marriage. Pandavas are invited to Kuru Kingdom, Hastinapur. It is proposed by Vidura that the Kingdom be divided in two parts with Duryodhana and Yusdhistar as representatives of Kuru Kingdom. Krishna leaves with the Pandavas for Khandava Prastha. This is a hilly area was most of the land covered by dense forest. Krishna and Arjuna plan to burn the forest so as to claim land for the people of Indraprastha. Agni and Indra God help them. The forest is burned. King of Snakes dynasty, Takshaka was caught in the fire. Krishna and Arjuna rescued Takshaka but he pledged enmity towards them. Mayasura, the architect of Rakshas clan was also rescued from the fire. Mayasura pledged that he would construct a unique palace for the Pandavas to be named as Indraprastha. Thus, the Pandava palace was constructed with many halls. One hall was such that if it appeared to be water, it was found to be colourless stone, if it appeared like stone, it was water. Krishna helped Pandavas with governance policy and finance. Narad Muni visited Indraprastha and suggested that they should organize Rajsuya Yagn. On his suggestion, Krishna informed that they have yet to defeat King Jarasandh of Magadha. Arjun, Bhim and Krishna left for Magadha dressed as Brahmins. In Magadh, they requested for wrestling bout with Jarasandh. Jarasandh wished to be introduced to them. On knowing that the trio was Krishna, Arjuna nd Bhim, Jarasandh chose to wrestle with Bhim. Bhim was able to wrestle with Jarasandh for 18 days. He tore the body of Jarasandh in two parts and on the suggestion of Krishna, he threw the parts in different directions. Thus, Magadh was won. All kings imprisoned by Jarasandh were freed. They all were invited to Rajsuya yagn of Pandavas. Krishna and trio returned back to Indraprastha. Yudhistar and Krishna sat in the Palace hall to plan about Rajsuya Yagn.
