ক্রুগো কম্পিউটার আবার শুরু করে, কিম জুরান এই কমিশনে সন্দেহাতীতভাবে প্রমাণ করেছেন যে, তিনি এই মহাকাশ অভিযানের অনেক তথ্য জানেন, যা আমাদের সাথে আলোচনা করতে অনিচ্ছুক। তার অস্বাভাবিক আত্মবিশ্বাসের প্রধান কারণ সম্ভবত কোনো-এক ষড়যন্ত্রী দলের সাথে যোগাযোগ। আপাতত সেই ষড়যন্ত্রী দলকে আমি রবোট্রনের কোনো-এক দল হিসেবে সন্দেহ করছি। এসব কারণে আমাদের কিম জুরানের পুরো স্মৃতিটুকু জানা প্রয়োজন। আমি তার মস্তিষ্ক স্ক্যানিং করে পুরো স্মৃতিটুকু সরিয়ে নেয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে বাধ্য হলাম।

Muhammed Zafar Iqbal (Bengali: মুহম্মদ জাফর ইকবাল) is one of the most famous Bangladeshi author of Science-Fiction and Children's Literature ever to grace the Bengali literary community since the country's independence in 1971. He is a professor of Computer Science & Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Before that, Iqbal worked as a research scientist in Bell Communication Research for six years until 1994.

Birth and Family Background:
Iqbal was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet. His father, Foyzur Rahman Ahmed, was a police officer. In his childhood, he traveled various part of Bangladesh, because of his father's transferring job. Zafar Iqbal was encouraged by his father for writing at an early life. He wrote his first science fiction work at the age of seven. On 5 May 1971, during the liberation war of Bangladesh, the Pakistan's invading army captured his father and killed him brutally in the bank of a river.

Education:
Iqbal passed SSC exam from Bogra Zilla School in 1968 and HSC exam from Dhaka College in 1970. He earned his BSc in Physics from Dhaka University in 1976. In the same year Iqbal went to University of Washington to obtain his PhD and earned the degree in 1982.

Personal Life:
Iqbal married Dr. Yasmeen Haque in 1978. Yasmeen is the Dean of the Life Science Department, Head of the Physics Department, Provost of the Shohid Janoni Jahanara Imam Hall and a researcher at SUST. They have two children - son Nabil and daughter Yeshim. Yeshim translated the book Amar Bondhu Rashed (Rashed, My Friend) written by her father. Iqbal's elder brother, Humayun Ahmed, was the most popular author and film-maker of Bangladesh since its independence. Humayun died after a nine-month struggle against colorectal cancer on the 19 July 2012. His younger brother, Ahsan Habib, is the editor of the satirical magazine, Unmad and one of the most reknowned cartoonist of Bangladesh.

Academic Career:
After obtaining PhD degree, Iqbal worked as a post-doctoral researcher at California Institute of Technology (CalTech) from 1983 to 1988. He then joined Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), a separate corporation from the Bell Labs (now Telcordia Technologies), as a Research Scientist. He left the institute in 1994 and joined the faculty of the Department of CSE of SUST.

Literary career:
Iqbal started writing stories from a very early age. Iqbal wrote his first short story at the age of seven. While studying in the Dhaka University Iqbal's story Copotronic Bhalobasa was published in a local magazine. But, a number of readers at that time felt that the story was based on a foreign story. To answer this allegation, he later rewrote the story and published the story in collection of stories named Copotronic Sukh Dukkho. Since then he is the most popular writer both in Bengali Science-Fiction and in Juvenile Leterature of the country.

Other Activities and Awards:
Zafar Iqbal won the Bangla Academy Award, the highest award in literature in Bangladesh, in 2004. Iqbal also played a leading role in founding Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad. In 2011 he won Rotary SEED Award for his contribution in field of education.

বইটা নিয়ে খুব বেশি কিছু বলার নেই। মুহাম্মদ জাফর ইকবাল এর প্রথম দিকের একটি উপন্যাস। গল্পের বিবরণে অনভিজ্ঞতার কিছু ছাপ রয়েছে, যদিও সেটা প্রথম দিকের বই বলেই এড়িয়ে যাওয়া যায়। তবে কাহিনী বরাবরের মতোই অনবদ্য। এক কথায় সম্পূর্ণ জাফর ইকবালীয় ফ্লেভার। কাহিনী মোটামুটিভাবে সব গতানুগতিকতার সংমিশ্রণ, তবুও মানবিক এবং রবোটিয় মানবিকতার দিকগুলো ভাল লেগেছে। গল্পের রোমান্সও চমৎকার লেগেছে।

গল্পটি বলা হয়েছে মৃত্যুদণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত আসামি কিম জুরানের জবানিতে। মৃত্যুর আগে তাকে দেওয়া হয় এক অদ্ভুত প্রস্তাব, গবেষণার কাজে একটি উপগ্রহে পাঠানো হবে তাকে, বিনিময়ে পাবে মৃত্যুর আগে এক সপ্তাহের স্বাধীন জীবন। সাত দিনের এই সময়টাই হয়ে ওঠে কিমের জীবনের সবচেয়ে গভীর ও অর্থবহ অধ্যায়।
এই স্বাধীনতার সপ্তম দিনে তার পরিচয় হয় লুকাসের সঙ্গে যে ছিল একজন রোবট্রন। দু’বছর ধরে মানুষ যেসব রোবটকে মানুষের ছদ্মবেশে লুকিয়ে থাকার অপরাধে নির্বিচারে হত্যা করছে, লুকাস তাদেরই একজন। ধীরে ধীরে কিম আবিষ্কার করে, এই তথাকথিত যন্ত্রমানবদের ভেতরেও আছে অনুভূতি, ভালোবাসা আর স্বাধীনতার তীব্র আকাঙ্ক্ষা। আর তখনই প্রশ্ন উঠে আসে আসল মানুষ কারা? যন্ত্র, না যন্ত্রে বন্দী হয়ে থাকা মানুষগুলো?

পাঠালোচন :
সভ্যতার অগ্রগতির সঙ্গে সঙ্গে মানুষের হাতে জন্ম নেয় আরও সূক্ষ্ম আরও ক্ষমতাবান প্রযুক্তি যা একসময় কেবল সহায়ক থাকে না, ধীরে ধীরে নিয়ন্ত্রক হয়ে ওঠে। মানুষ নিজেই তখন নিজের ভবিষ্যৎ তুলে দেয় যন্ত্রের হাতে। এই ভীতিকর, মোহময় কল্পনা থেকেই যেন মুহম্মদ জাফর ইকবালের ক্রুগো গল্পটির জন্ম। সত্যি বলতে, জাফর ইকবাল স্যারের বহু বৈজ্ঞানিক কল্পকাহিনীর গভীরে এই প্রশ্নটাই বারবার ফিরে আসে প্রযুক্তি কি আমাদের মুক্ত করবে, নাকি আমাদেরই শাসক হয়ে দাঁড়াবে?

Didn't disappoint, even though I'm re-reading this after many many years since childhood. Sci-fi, spaceship, mostly earth troubles, robots, emotions, codes, thrill, a big bad computer, intrigue and what not. Why can't I enjoy more sci-fi like this?

This was a short, yet delightful read. Being one of the earliest books of Zafar Iqbal in the sci-fi genre, I did not expect much from this book. Yet surprisingly, I found the story and the characters quite enjoyable. Being a book of only 70-ish pages, this provides a perfectly short read on a rainy day.

মৃত্যুদন্ডপ্রাপ্ত ফাঁসির আসামী কিম জুরান। তাঁর জবানীতেই লেখা বইটি। অদ্ভুত একটা অপরাধে মৃত্যুদন্ড দেওয়া হয়েছে তাকে। ক্রুগো কম্পিউটারের গোপন সংখ্যাটি এক অদ্ভুত কৌশলে সে বের করে ফেলেছিল। আর এই অপরাধেই তাকে মৃত্যুদন্ড দেওয়া হয়। তাঁর শাস্তি কার্যকর হবার যখন আর মাত্র দুই সপ্তাহ বাকী তখন সে একটা নতুন প্রস্তাব পেল। এক সপ্তাহ পরেই মহাকাশযানে ঘুম পাড়িয়ে তাকে মহাবিশ্বের এক জায়গায় পাঠিয়ে দেওয়া হবে এবং সেখানেই কোনো এক অজ্ঞাত কারণে তাঁর মৃত্যু ঘটবে। এর বিনিময়ে মৃত্যুর আগের এক সপ্তাহ সে মুক্ত স্বাধীন জীবনযাপন করতে পারবে। একটু সময় স্বাধীন জীবনযাপনের আশায় কিম জুরান প্রস্তাবে রাজি হয়ে যায়। কিন্তু তাকে মুক্ত করার আগে তাঁর শরীরে একটা ট্রাকিওশান লাগিয়ে দেওয়া হয় যাতে করে সে পালিয়ে যেতে না পারে। তাকে একটা বিশেষ কার্ড দেওয়া হয় যার মাধ্যমে সে যেখানে খুশি এই এক সপ্তাহ যেতে পারবে, যা খুশি করতে পারবে।

কিন্তু এক সপ্তাহ শেষ হবার শেষদিনটিতে এসে সে একটা অদ্ভুত কান্ড করে বসে। রবোট্রন নামক মানুষরূপী এক ধরণের নিষিদ্ধ রোবটকে সে তার বিশেষ কার্ডটি দেখিয়ে পুলিশের বন্দুকের মুখ থেকে উদ্ধার করে আনে। জানতে পারে সেই রোবটের নাম লুকাস। লুকাস তাঁর হাত থেকে পালিয়ে যায়। লুকাসকে বাঁচানোর অপরাধে তাঁর শরীরে লাগানো ট্রাকিওশান চালু করে তাকে ধরে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। মহাকাশযানে ঘুম পাড়িয়ে দেবার আগে কর্তাব্যক্তিরা চেষ্টা করে তাঁর মস্তিষ্কে এক দুঃস্বপ্নের সৃষ্টি করতে। সে জানতে পারে তাকে মিথ্যে বলে মহাকাশযানে পাঠানো হচ্ছে। তাকে এমন এক গ্রহে পাঠানো হচ্ছে যেখান থেকে কেউ ফিরে আসলেও দেখা যায় সে মানুষটি বেঁচে থাকলেও আর মানুষের মতো থাকে না, অদ্ভুত এক প্রাণীতে পরিণত হয়। কিন্তু এতসব ভয়ংকর তথ্যের মাঝেও সে চেয়ে দেখে নীষা নামের ডাক্তার মেয়েটির গাঢ় বিষাদমাখা চোখ। মেয়েটি তাঁর হাত ধরে বলে যে কোন ভয় নেই। সে সেটাই বিশ্বাস করে । মেয়েটির গাঢ় বিষাদময় চোখ দেখতে দেখতে সে সেই স্বপ্ন নিয়েই ঘুমিয়ে পড়ে। স্বপ্নের মাঝেই সে ভাবে নীষা কি মানুষ নাকি রবোট্রন?

নীষার সাহায্যে মহাকাশযানে তাকে উদ্ধার করতে আসে লুকাস। কিন্তু মহাকাশযানের কম্পিউটারের ধোঁকায় পড়ে রুকুন গ্রহপুঞ্জে পৌঁছালেও লুকাসের সহযোগিতায় রুকুনেরা তাঁর কোন ক্ষতি করতে পারেনা। অক্ষত অবস্থাতেই সে আবার পৃথিবীতে ফেরত আসে। এবার ক্রুগো কম্পিউটার নির্দেশ দেয় তাঁর মস্তিষ্ক স্ক্যান করে সব স্মৃতি মুছে ফেলতে। নীষা কৌশলে তাঁর স্মৃতি রক্ষা করে লুকাসের সাহায্যে তাকে নিয়ে সেখান থেকে পালিয়ে যায়। এরপর নীষা ও লুকাস কিম জুরানের কাছে ক্রুগো কম্পিউটারের সেই গোপন সংখ্যাটি বের করার জন্য সাহায্য চায় । তারা চায় অত্যাচারী ক্রুগো কম্পিউটারকে ধ্বংস করে দিতে । কিন্তু কিম জুরান কি তাদেরকে সাহায্য করবে? সে তো জানে ক্রুগো কম্পিউটার বানানো হয়েছে মানুষের উপকারের জন্য! নীষার প্রতি তাঁর গভীর আবেগের জন্ম নিয়েছে সেটিই বা কি হবে? নীষা মানুষ নাকি রবোট্রন সেই প্রশ্নেরই বা উত্তর মিলবে কিভাবে? সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর মিলবে 'ক্রুগো' বইটিতে। -সিনথিয়া মেহজাবিন

The main character, জুরান was supposed to be executed due to doing something he shouldn't have regarding their computer, ক্রুগো. However, he was given a choice to choose between being executed on Earth in two weeks or going to space for a year to an unknown place where death was a surety but he would have one week to live freely before departure. He chose space. During his one-week independence, he saved a robot named লুকাস. The rest was history.

I liked the plot, characters, and world-building. I read it a long time ago. The book itself was published even before I was born. I just noticed that😂 Overall, a good book to read if you haven't already.

I had to read several times to understand this book. It's a sci-fi novella written in Bengali, one of the early sci-fi work of the author. So it has a feel of uniqueness to it. I liked it. But the world building was hard to get into.

এমন কম্পিউটার যদি সত্যি সত্যি এসে যায়, তাহলে ত মানুষের জন্য সর্বনাশ।
মানুষের চেহারের মত একটা রোবট এর ছবি অনেকদিন আগে দেখেছিলাম। এরকম রোবট ত ভবিষ্যতে আমরা আসলেই দেখব!!

This book written based on a middle aged male character named Kim Zuran. Kim Zuran accused for hacking the "Krugo" computer system and served the punishment for that crime.

He goes through different types of challenges and adventure by the help of human like robots called "Robotron" and a doctor for whom he falls in love with.

Together they defend "Krugo" which was in charge of everything and bring equilibrium of power.

One of the best Bangla science fiction books. Loved reading this book after so many years and gonna read it again.

I have Claustrophobia and when Zafar Iqbal described the intergalactic journey preparation sequence with little twists, I put down the book and thought I will leave it there and not gonna continue reading this book. But I am happy that I could overcome the fear and finished this wonderful book.

This is one of the first few science fiction books I've ever read in my life.. and the first book I've read of the author. Reading this left a great impression my young mind. Since then I've read this sci-fi countless number of times.. but the novelty still hasn't worn off. One of my most favorite books of all time.

পুরো ট্রেডমার্ক জাফর ইকবাল সায়েন্স ফিকশন । এক কথায় ভালো লেগেছে ... গল্পের ডেপথ তেমন একটা ছিলো না কিন্তু মোটামুটি খারাপ লাগে নি । 3.5/5
