This is a great addition to any leather library! Written by an historian, this is one of the first books to chronicle the history and evolution of a Leather/BDSM organization. This book traces the history of the organization and provides detailed information regarding some of the people, places, and events involved in formation and shaping the NLA, from its earliest inception, through its period of activism, to “Living in Leather,” NLA’s flagship event that continues to serve as a model today. The book also provides information about the NLA officers, titleholders and award winners. The limited hardcover edition will on sale on January 15, 2013.
I was so excited when I stumbled across this from an Etsy shop. I'm very interested in queer and kink history topics, so it was a treat to be able to dive into this resource regarding the timeline of the National Leather Association (NLA). In addition to the fun that was had, it was also inspiring to learn about the efforts various Chapters took part in to decriminalize elements of BDSM behavior, as well as provide education to members, health care providers, law enforcement, and government to know the difference between consensual adult activity and abuse. A storytelling element that I found interesting is that at different times in a noted individual's life, their title/name may change depending on spatial context and/or a new phase of self-discovery. I found this concept to be fun and potentially freeing as an invitation to continue self-discovery, to meet all the "me's I could be." It is also a reminder to focus on what really matters (maintaining and caring for community, ensuring safety, being true to yourself) and leave the rest.
I'm probably going to explore more from this publisher to build my resource library, but here's where I found this gem: https://www.etsy.com/shop/AdynatonPub...
