Edit: So I've read the first 7 books in this series and this review is applicable to each of those individually. I initially rated these 4 stars but came back and lowered the rating as that is simply not fair to the other authors whose work I've rated as four stars.
The story line and concept for this series is great and I have enjoyed each of these books. However, though the translations are decent, I feel the work suffers greatly simply due to the lack of a professional English translation as well as English editing and publishing process. This series has tremendous potential though. Unfortunately, at this point, what is publicly available to English readers is seriously lacking. I've read that there are plans in the near future to professionally translate and publish.
Each volume is relatively short (between approximately 350-390 pages), which is not a problem, but what is an issue is that each subsequent volume has a lot of repetitive information. Also, there's a lot of story that just didn't interest me (i.e. grandma and sister. You could probably cut out 95 percent of what has been said about them and still paint the same picture that has been created about those characters and their impact on the main character). Some of my qualms may just be a cultural difference too, so I can't judge to harshly.
I feel that the 7 volumes I've read so far, in the hands of a good editor and translator, would probably make a good 3 or 4 books. Potentially an amazing 2 or 3 books. As of now, I've decided to take a break from the series. There's a few books that have just been released that I'd like to read. Though I'm vested and interested in this story and its main character, I feel I should be more vested/interested after 7 volumes. By the way, there's about 40 volumes published currently. Approximately 20 of which have been unprofessionally translated by various people. Which, when you think of that, it's pretty impressive as it speaks to the overall love for the story as these translators are typically simply fans of the series.

Knjiga je veoma zabavna, smešna i džri pažnju. S obzirom da sam zaboravio gde je tačno počeo ovaj nastavak prvog dela, opisaću prvu i drugu knjigu zajedno.
Radi se o liku Li Hjun i živi u Južnoj Koreji. Živi sa mlađom setrom, roditelji su im umrli. Relativno su siromašni i on večito pokušava kroz igrice da zaradi novac - gde mu se jenom posrećilo da svog heroja iz igre (važio je za najjačeg u igri) postavi na aukciju i biva kupljen za OGROMNU količinu novca.
Taman kad je pomislio da će ih to izvući iz bede, dolaze im na kuću "mafijaši" kojima su njegovi roditelji navodno dugovali neke pare, ali kako to inače biva, ti kriminalci su pokvareni i kamata se "nakotila". Predaje im skoro sav novac i ako se dobro sećam, Li Hjun je nešto obećao tom kriminalcu, da će se ponovo obogatiti i uništiti ga, tako nešto, na šta se ovaj samo nasmejao. Ne sećam se tačno tog dela, ne zamerite.
Li Hjun od ostatka para uspeva da kupi aparat (velika kapsula) za virtuelno igranje nove poznate igre "Royal Road" iliti "Kraljevski put". Kreira heroja po imenu "Weed" (možda kao Korov? ne sećam se da li je bilo neko posebno objašenjenje) i počinje da igra. To je naravno virtuelni svet sa mnogo ljudi koji takođe igraju, a tu su i "npc-jevi" koji su virutelni ljudi sa prezadatim osobinama i koji su uglavnom stanovnici raznih mesta sa nekim najobičnijim profesijama poputa prodavca, uzgajivača stoke itd.
Njegova želja je da postane najmoćniji ratnik i da ponovo proda svog heroja, ali nakon dosta truda da dođe do svoje profesije - gde naravno želi postati ratnik - njemu igrad dodeljuje profesiju skulptora. Kao skupltor on ne može ništa osim da pravi razne predmete od drveta (kao početnik).
Rešen da promeni svoju profesiju, nastavlja svoj put u potrazi za načinom da tako nešto učini (jer ne može da kreira drugog heroja), on nailazi na razne izazove i opasne situacije, ali uspeva mu samo da usput nauči dodatne nebitne mini profesije poput kuvanja i popravljanja oružja i oklopa drugim učesnicima igre.
Na početku su to neki poslići gde mora ubiti neka čudovišta nadomak sela ili da spasi nekoga, sve zarad skupljanja novca i želje za napredovanjem. Kasnije se pridružuje jednoj grupici ljudi s kojima zajedno odrađuju malo teži posao - to je bilo pred kraj prve knjige i sećam se da sam goreo od uzbuđenja koliko dobro je opisana atmosfera i čitav taj sukob, ubijanje itd.
Kasnije se priključuje i jednoj velikoj grupi (recimo da ih je bilo između 30 i 100, opet me sećanje ne služi) gde ulaze u pećinu i tamo vrše pokolj čudovišta, ali njegova svrha je više bila kao da je pomagač, kuvao je i popravljao drugima oruđe. Opet, sve zarad novca i napredovanja u profesijama.
Ponekad bi stao u nekim gradićima i pravio male skulpture raznih životnja, a ljudi bi to kupovali i on bi bio zadovoljan. Vremenom je napredovao i počeo klesati skulpture od kamena. Najveće delo je kamena skulptura Freje (jedna devojka) visine oko 2m. To selo je bilo oskudno na početku, ali zbog statue je privuklo turiste i preraslo u mali gradić, razvilo se do te mere da su se redovno okupljali prodavci sa svih strana i bilo bi kao vašar.
Jedan posao ga je odveo u skriveni grad na nebu, u kom su stanovali pticoliki ljudi (ili kako već da ih nazovem). Tamo je naučio o biljkama i kako ih pravilno vaditi iz zemlje a da ne uništi koren, koje su dobre za ovu ili onu svrhu.
Kako Li Hjun proživljava nove avanture, tako i njegova glavna profesija napreduje, a jedan posao u vezi vajrstva ga je doveo do skrivenog posla, čiji nagrada je bilo unapređenje profesije u "vajar mesečeve svetlosti". Nije siguran u kom pravcu će ga to odvesti, ali biti vajar se ispostavilo kao odlična profesija jer mnogo utiče na njegovu popularnost i uticaj na npc-jeve (virtuelne nestvarne ljude).
Zanimliva činjenica je što sva njegov napredak u veštinama se direktno održava na njega u pravom svetu. Postao je vešt, njegovi refleksi su kao nikad pre, a sve zarad nove tehnologiju pomoću koje igra nervima a ne kao nekad na kompjuteru tipkajući po tastaturi.
Sa sestrom ide na takmičenja iz raznih disciplina, pa osvaja novčane nagrade i time ih obezbeđuje neki naredni period po pitanju novca.

Sve u svemu, ovo nije neko poučno delo, već je isključivo zabavne prirode i veoma je smešno u nekim trenucima - a to je ono što ponekad i tražimo od hobija.
(Čitanje ovog dela mi se odužilo isključivo jer sam i zaboravio na njega, ali uvek kad ocenim drugu knjigu vidim da mi je ova knjiga započeta i nikako da joj se vratim - ali evo sad jesam.)

I honestly don't know how I'm going to get through the next 50 books. There is a serious lack of main characters in this series. It's not nearly as bad as "Reincarnated as a Spider", but the amount of self contemplation, affirmation, and monologue is obscene. On top of that, there are no other permanent characters other than the main character. Which equates to some small Asian child with a small penis daydreaming this entire story in his head instead of all of this actually happening in reality.
It's like a slot machine, every few seconds when you're bored, more shit happens, the sound affirms that something has happened, and it keeps you there for another 7 seconds. Ting, your cooking went up; Ting, ego+20, penis+2, speed while removing pants increase by two fold. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty details of interpersonal dialog, it's at most 2 lines. And the action is dumbed down to "Bam, he slashes" and "Whoosh, he dodge." Storytelling isn't just about substance, it's about imagery and romance in relating to the story. And this falls short on that end.

Volume 2: CITY OF HEAVENS (my own title for it)
This is the second installment of the bound version of the Webnovel Series "The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor". The story is simple: A poor guy is as desperate as to sell his old maximum level account of an once famous MMORPG and suddenly has more money in his hands than he has ever seen in his life. This guy is LEE Hyun. Unfortunately, his family has had many depts, and to repay them, all the gained money is gone. But why not try it a second time? "Royal Road" is the name of the Virtual Reality game that is all over th place nowadays, and whoever is the first one to map the whole gaming continent, to see the whole world of Royal Road, will be a rich man. So Hyun logs in into another MMORPG.
The VRMMORPG-novel is pretty popular nowadays, due to hits like Sword Art Online or Log Horizon. But what distinguished LMS from the named japanese Light Novels, is not just its country of origin (Korea), but its way of showing us an MMORPG. Throughout the whole book are realistic MMO-descriptions: when Hyun finds an item, we see its name, its durability, its stats, get a short descriprion of it and its buffs. When a player levels up, we see the increase of stats that he just gained. When a player gets a quest, we see its headline, its description, a small text that goes like "Do you want to accept the quest? Yes / No". It is just so much fun to read it, if you, like me, are fascinatited by MMOs, but never had the guts to seriously start playing one.
Compared to the first Volume, this book isn´t as fascinating. It was just so good to see Weed (Hyuns character) adapt to the new world and take his first steps, get his class and level in the starting zone. This book again follows a class-specific quest for sculptors, that leads Weed into a hidden City in the sky, populized by humanoid birds, and we slowly but surely see the impact, that Weed has on Royal Road, we see him starting to get a little famous.
Overall a really great book, definitely better than SAO, and if you want to try the first volume, just go ahead - its free. The novels aren´t localized anywhere outside Korea, and if you look a bit around the Internet, you´ll find fan translations of all (currently) 50 volumes, that aren´t any worse than professional translations.
