REVISED & UPDATED on October 10, 2014

The Mysterious Man in Black could always be seen sitting by himself in his rented booth of the club that Sadie Francé begrudgingly worked to make a living. The peculiar man wasn’t someone Sadie wanted to become acquainted with, because, as irresistibly handsome as he was, he was also eerie.

So when he persistently continued to request a dance with her, she determinedly continued to shoot him down.

On her last night, however, she caved.

One strange conversation was all it took for Sadie to get sucked into the complexity of the sinfully hot, but unnerving, man in black.

He sure as hell wasn’t like any other man she’d ever come across. The man was simply…odd. Sadie could never understand him, his parabolic statements, his weird and inconsistent behaviors, or his weaving emotions.

Still, Sadie found herself drawn to him, wanting him with a burning need. Why was she so attracted to him? Why was it so hard for her to resist him? Why was it so hard for her to stay away? Why did he seem so familiar?

As he barged into her life, so did the frequency of inexplicable migraine attacks.

When Sadie began having strange dreams, dreams that were her forbidden memories, memories that doctors told her were irretrievable, the mystery behind the man in black slowly, but surely, began to unravel.

And it was painful.

Just not feeling a connection here--- I do think a lot of people would like this and it's had some good reviews ,so don't let my non-connection deter you from trying it out.. Ms. Cole writes beautifully, almost poetic, and maybe thats why I'm not feeling a connection. I almost feel like its a little over my head? I've had to google several words for definitions already... So, I'm going to move this to my DNF pile for now and may try it again later. :)

I give this book 2.5 stars rounded to 3. I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the premise and the story is really engaging. I am really at awe with Natalio's resilience in fighting and protecting his love. I quite enjoy reading and am impressed on his role in the inner workings of the mob. This book has great potential except for the writing style. Don't get me wrong, the grammars and spellings are great and all but the style just didn't suit with the over all theme of the book. We're speaking contemporary, however, I find myself reading through words that befit medieval times. Who uses words like yonder, anymore? And when I should be crying my eyes out on scenes that are truly heart breaking, I find myself laughing out loud because of certain sentences and wordings used. "Food touched not my tongue. Water touched not my skin. School saw not my frame." I shared this thought with my sister and told me ... "How could you not put down that book?" It's just that, I am really curious with how things will work out in the end. Through gritted teeth, I finally finished it. No regrets here! I could have easily given this book 4 stars if not the writing style. I just hope the next book would be written in a much more easy and entertaining style. I love big vocabularies ... really I do ... but too much of it just makes the book and characters pretentious and at times boring.

Imagine having a chunk of your life's memories taken from you. Imagine never knowing if those memories you think you remember are just your imagination. Imagine meeting people who seem to know you but you don't know them. Or how about being the person who remembers but isnt remembered.
.
We meet Sadie in a time where life is hard. Well, life isn't and hasn't been easy for Sadie. A horrible accident gave her retrograde amnesia. Her father was an abusive whoremonger, who spread a devastating disease to her mother, causing her mother to shrivel away from life. While Sadie has been dealt a tough hand, she isn't a push over. She graduated college with a degree in fashion design. Book smart and street smart, she deals with life as it is. She accepts people for who they are. Leaving her drug dealer boyfriend for the final time, she's reduced to stripping her clothes for money. As Sadie continues with her daily hustle, she begins to wonder if she has a stalker; Mr. Mysterious in Black, who watches her every night.

"My eyes took the opportunity to devour him, good looking sonuvabitch that he was. Dressed in the only shade I'd ever seen him wear, all-black."

Mr. Mysterious is introduced in the beginning. He talks of a love, his other half that's missing and needs to find her. Receiving a call he decides that it's time to claim her and bring her home. He feels it's time to end her suffering, regardless of the circumstances. He will do whatever it takes, it's been to long. Mr. Mysterious ... Natalio Nelson off to the rescue.

Sadie and Natalio struggle with finding footing in the beginning. She feels like she's missing something. Who wants to be "just friends" but buy people expensive things and get a person a job ? Apparently, Natalio. He wants to be her savior. This man of mystery is portrayed very well in the book. He is just that, like a rubiks cube to even us, as the reader. I mean obviously there's a connection between the two but what? What happened ? Why is he trying so hard?

" You are the most confusing, contorted, convoluted, person I've ever met. I can't understand you. What is it you want from me?"

" I want you, I want you to want me. I want you to see ME."

Sadie is even more puzzled by Natalio as his cryptic words and poems continue to haunt her. She begins falling for this man..... this man that's seems familiar. Coming to terms that there is more, she decides to trust in Natalio. Dreams turn into memories. People in the wrong place at the wrong time.....Life deals more bad hands. Will Sadie and Natalio be dealt the winning hand?

Upon starting this book, I was taken back by the choice of words and wording structure. I will admit, I used the dictionary more times than I can count. .The story is so engaging that I quite frankly didn't care what words were used, as long as they continued to tell me Sadie and Natalio's story. It was so mysterious, I couldn't get a feel for where it was going. This story gripped me and sucked me in. At times, I wanted to be biting my nails or hugging myself because of the love and loss these characters felt. My recommendation is for you to give this story the chance it's deserves. Yes, there is some old world language and yoda-isms through out, if you can look past that, it leads to a great story. I look at it like this ... Modern story with a bit of old world feel. It tends to feel more formal. Bottom line: The story being told is worth the read. Enjoy it you should.

This book is torn between 3 and 4 stars for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed Sadie and Natalio's story, it was well thought out but I found the highfalutin deliverance of words to be really rather annoying. It was as though the author did everything in her power to find the most adjective words to use.

Let's face it this book is ultimately a contemporary romance, but this books is filled with words that would be more comfortable in a thesis, acadamia, reference books, poetry, drama or religion, society, politics, heck are you getting my drift? The vernacular in this book doesn't seem to sit well with a adult content comtemporary romance.

In one sentence there is F words and cussing galore and then in another sentence it reads ' You're an overlooking, mollycoddling, peremptory ass......' This is words from a girl brought up on the poor side of town. Uhmm doesn't sit well.

I would suggest you read the freebie bit at Amazon or suchlike to see if you can handle the prose from the pen of S. Ann Cole and if your comfortable with it and want to read contemporary in that style and if you are, then you will without a doubt enjoy the book.

This book has plot holes galore and too much going on. We have Sadie and her friends, Sadie and Natalio. Natalio and his brothers. Natalio and his Father, Natalio and ow’s. Sadie has amnesia only about her relationship with Natalio. It’s been 7 years and she has been living with some drug dealer that gets murdered. Billionaire Natalio who is so in love with her and knows her every move—- but has just been waiting in the wings screwing the multitudes of Ow’s to get Sadie off his mind. After 7 years he decides to approach Sadie. You might ask why did he wait so long… hmmm . He was formerly known as Nelly since his last name is Nelson. He was a gangsta wannabes. Some of this book was just ott. The fmc was funny and I laughed so hard at a few of her rumination’s thus the 3 stars. Badass Natalio is revealed to be scared of his daddy in the last pages. Also what was with all of the scripture quoting. I really wanted to like this but alot of it was silly. The first part started great but then it became immature.

I liked the premiss of the story however I found it rather porly executed. I can't remeber the last time I encountered such pretentious writing... and the author seems to be channeling her inner Yoda, either that or the book is actually originally written in another language and some random web translating program has been used, cause some scentences really don't make sense.

Okay, maybe I'm a little nuts to write a review on this one AFTER writing a review on the second book first. Yeah, okay I'm nuts. I just hadn't gathered my wits yet after this one so I just rated it 5 stars the proceeded on to the next book. But now that I'm sane...

Ever had a dream you can't remember after waking up?
Ever forgot a moment in your life which you were supposed be in and that everyone around you knows about it but you don't?
SUCKS right?

Well imagine losing some of your memories. For good.
Amnesia.
DOUBLE SUCKS right?

Sadie and Nelly.. Oh boy. These two. Just typing their names has my heart twisting again.

I have read countless books on romance and stuff, some believable, some not.
But THEIR story. Sadie and Nelly's story.

It made me want to believe a love like theirs actually exists. It transpires time and logic. I know I sound like a pansy ass schoolgirl, but I just don't know how to describe it. All the shit that they went through, lesser people would have cowered, but they didn't. They fought with a vengeance.

I'm inlove with the sexy, brooding, mysterious man in black.
And I'm inlove wih the kind-hearted, loyal, stubborn woman in crazy colors.

To wait for Sadie the Natalio did.. *sigh*

There were so many words and adjectives that came to mind after reading this book..

Hope.
Passion.
Friendship.
Loyalty.
Patience.
Love.
Life.

5 stars in white. ;)

This story somehow broke my heart on the first few chapters of this book. Most part I don't understand Natalio being so persistent about Sadie not until the later part, for me he is one hell of a control freak, stalker much and very much so in love with her. Natalio can have any girl he dreamed of but the most touching part for me is he stand by his own promised that he will wait for her even if its takes forever. Wow just wow.

I admire Sadie for her will to survive in this story and as for Natalio I admired his strength to fight everyting he has for her. But Sadie's stubborness is pretty much annoying to witness. She took 6 weeks to decide is she really wants Natalio in her life. 6 freaking weeks. I won't blame Natalio if he decided to move on and forget Sadie. Yeah I want Natalio to move on. Sadie's character makes me want to kick her ass so damn much.

I'm in love with Sadie & Natalio!!! I soooo wish there was more to their story! Please give us more!!

Sadie, was an interesting woman... Strong, stubborn and sassy!! Love her! At times her stubbornness was a bit much and I wanted to yell at her; but nonetheless she was a great character...

The love Natalio had for Sadie was impressive! He was dominant, possessive, and so in love with Sadie that it made my heart melt for them...

Loved Kelsy!! What happened with her??

I enjoyed this book. The style of writing is very unusual but i think its good to read a book where you have to think about it a bit. There are a lot of words i was unsure of the meaning of but this didn't put me off, just look them up then add them to your vocab.

Natalio and Sadie's love story was so beautiful. I like how his love was so patient and endured through time. And I like how strong her character was. Their love and passion was blazing hot and they deserve their happy ending after going through so much. Congratulations to the author for such an amazing story.

What I didn't like was the writing style of the author. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it had errors or anything, because it was written well. Except it felt to me like the author should write historical fictions instead of stories with contemporary settings. Her writing style would probably be more fit to such a genre IMO. While reading through the book, I was tempted so many times to not finish it. But the OCD in me just wouldn't let me, ugh! I kept thinking, "Are there really people that talk this way at modern times? Do they really use such big words, especially for Sadie who happened to come from the poorer neighborhood, in their everyday life ?" I'm so sorry to say this but sometimes it felt like it was Yoda (Star Wars) or Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) who was saying these lines. Call me stupid but I didn't understand a lot of the 'big' vocabularies used in this book and I was too lazy to check a dictionary. I just skimmed through these words because it felt too tedious for me to really read them. Plus they were really plenty of these words! Sometimes it felt like a student was writing a school paper with a thesaurus beside him/her, replacing all the common words with heavy synonyms, trying to impress the English teacher. But then of course all these are just my opinions based on my limited knowledge. I don't know anything about the author but I'm just going to assume that she is one really very intelligent person and intends to have her work read by just as intelligent people (which is not me huhuhu).

Pls do not let my words discourage anyone from reading this really beautiful love story, or discourage the author from writing another one these books. It's not my cup of tea but it could be others'.

Advise: DON'T STOP. READ THROUGH.

I've read a lot of reviews and most of the readers DNF the book while just starting. Well, I planned to do so as well. But thankful I did not :))

Yes, at first a slow throb of headache was forming because of the words used in the book. The words were ancient, new to me and deep. That I have to highlight them and look it up on the dictionary, almost all the time.

Long before I know it, I'm halfway through the book. I was challenged by the author's wide vast of vocabulary. I wanted to decipher and tune in to those words to feel the story. And I did. I just read through without looking up the words and understood them through those poetic sentences.

Finishing this book, i rate the story line as original and amazeballs :) So unique that I fell in love with it.

Mr. mysterius Man in black, Natalio (Oh, i so love this name!) the male protagonist, is the character I've want for the main. He exudes control, wealth, power, helluva handsomeness but will do everything for his first love, Saddie. His love was exuding, i really felt it when i was reading this.

I say salute to S. Anne Cole. Looking forward to the second book. Hell, I became "LOGOPHILE" coz of this book. Must check my word of the day.

Enjoy. Well, watdya think of this? Hope this helps.

I really can't decide if I like this book or not. First off I didn't care for the biblical aspect of the story. Also another reviewer had commented about a thesaurus, and I completely understand now. I'm highly educated and the author used to many Big words that it made the read sometimes not enjoyable. The second half of the book is much better than the first part.

SPOILER ALERT

However, I'm still confused about his persona as Nelly. What all is he really involved in and if he is that well known, a ball cap with long hair will not make him unrecognizable. And was Belly just a game?? Why did he get involved in that lifestyle??? Also, did he or did he not expose himself to Devon. And what did his father mean when he said they were associates??? And how can Tonya really be part of their lives???? There are too many unanswered questions for me. But I didn't hate the book. So I would have given it more of 2.5 Stars.

a book about a billionaire, Natalio aka Nelly and a poor girl, Sadie who has brutal father same as Natalio... at the age of 21, Natalio is a billionaire already who strives to impress his ruthless archaic father... Sadie has an abuse father who beats up her mother all the time and when she tries to speak up is chased out of the house.. She falls in love with Nelly who is her savior at all times especially when she is sent out of the house... She gives him her innocence and he disappears after that.. she is depressed and locks herself in her room for sometime.. After a couple of days she is attacked by her father who hits her with a baseball bat and she suffers amnesia after that..
IMO, this is an amazing book, the author tries to throw some light on both protagonists insight views....
the form of writing is breathtaking and the use of bombastic word.. *finger licking* like the time when Sadie attacks Marcello Nelson.. That scene was ma peak point in the book.. blew my mind away..

This would have been such a nice book... if it weren't for the language. The story was very nice, romantic, sweet and shattering at the same time, but the Shakespearean language just didn't do it for me. It would have been great to find such language in a historical romance, but in a contemporary romance "Food touched not my tongue" and " Water touched not my skin" just don't seem to fit.
I have to say thought that the author's approach was quite original. Even with the annoying language (I admit that I had to use the dictionary quite often) the book has been a breath of fresh air.
I think that this author has a lot of potential and I will probably read her next releases.

OMG! SO Horrible!

Blurbs are so deceiving. A CEO billionaire by day. A gun/drug trafficker/gangster by night. His girl gets amnesia and forgets him so he stalks her for 7 years while she hooks up with another drug dealer. And let's talk about the fact that this book reads like the author sat with a dictionary and picked out the most rarely used words in the English language in a sad attempt to make her characters sound dignified. It was ridiculous! I felt like they were from the 16th century the way they were babbling, then suddenly they turned all 'gangsta' because this whole fiasco takes place in East L.A. There is NOTHING good about this book. NOTHING.

One of the best books I've read in a while. It was easy to become totally engrossed in the story which had you laughing, crying and even angered alongwith the main characters. It was hard to imagine who could possibly say no to the irresitable Natalio but when you meet Sadie, the gorgeous, easy to like heroine, you'll understand exactly what kind of woman it took. Wanted to see more of Geo Lee, the designer though. Quite an interesting character.

I especially enjoyed the sex scenes which was so realistically written unlike so many I've read in other books.

HOT HOT HOT!! Sexy hot. Emotionally juicy. Kind of stalkerish, but then that's the point of the novel. When the man realizes he's not getting anywhere with the girl of his dreams being stalkerish, he leaves her alone and moves on, but then that's when the girl realizes what she really wants. Him.

I couldn't put the book down. There's some drug dealers involved in the story, bad guys who run with other bad guys, a murder, and things of that nature.... so, it was suspenseful, romantic, emotionally driven, and mysterious. Loved it. Will read more of this author's work!

Stunning

5-stars, I absolutely adored this book. I wanted to know the ending, but I didn't want it to end Sadie and Natalio, were a super-couple, to end all super-couples. Sadie, with her take no prisoners attitude, and Natalie with his major swag, and soulful attitude were priceless. With his braids, he reminded me of DJ BURAS. He's on the cover of a upcoming book Baron A Cowboys Fight for Love, (Which can be preordered now). Ms. S. Ann Cole OUTSTANDING BOOK, I LOVED IT. WILL THE NELSON BROTHERS GET THE OWN BOOKS. LET'S HOPE SO.
