Wow !!!! Living in the hood is bad or good.

This guy was all over the hoods. I think he should change when he got lock up in Rockers. But no. Not only he lost and hurt people the love he hurt his self. So now what. People living in any hood should read this book and hope you can change your life. In a good way not death.

Brilliant and hardhitting. A book never to be forgotten.

There are some books that just hit you in the face with their brilliance. "The Hood Keeper" is one. This account of the life of Scooter, (a tough bitter young "gangsta" living the high lowlife in nineteen eighties Brooklyn), is not just a gore-fest, although there is more than enough blood spilled to satisfy the most bloodthirsty of murder and mayhem connoisseurs. There is a humanity shining through the awfulness of the lifestyle depicted, that makes the reader identify and sympathise with the angry and bitter young anti-hero.
In this truly excellent book, the horror of the predatory nature of the embittered urban underclass is laid bare with graphic and colourful description.
This is a book, which should be required reading for anyone who thinks a life of violence is the way to go. The saddest thing, the part that moves the reader the most is the humanity that is screaming to get out of the apparently soulless characters.
This novella is not a "barrel of laughs". I don't remember any part of it that made me smile. But I couldn't put it down. It really is a page-turner and an absolutely brilliant book. Someone ought to make a film of it. It would out clockwork "A Clockwork Orange".

'I'm bad, I'm bad, you know it...'

Scooter Jackson is your average teenager living in the inner city environment captivated by the life and luxuries that crime offers. He befriends other juvenile delinquents and they begin their trek through the streets of Brooklyn, New York. The more trouble Scooter and his partners encounter and escape, the bolder and more daring their capers become as they lose themselves to the streets.

The Hood Keeper reads like a memoir in that it is indeed a true story but isn't very interesting. It lacks any excitement or interesting characters. Just a tale of teens living on the outside of the law and loving it despite the danger that lurks in the shadows. 2.88

I Loved this book. From the beginning to the end It was entertaining and refreshing. I felt sorry for some of the characters but at the same time I didn't give a fuck. I was with Scooter 100% and I really hated the outcome of the whole situation. It just goes to show that the person you least expect to cross you is always the first. All in all I loved it there were laughs and tears but in the end there was a lesson.
