One of Hollywood's hardest working women is about to discover there's a lot more drama behind the camera than in front of it. . . Faith "Freakin'" Sinclair probably shouldn't have called her boss a perv. . .or grabbed his "privates." But as creator of the hit dramedy Modern Women, she'd had enough of his sexist insults. Now she's untouchable in the industry--not in a good way. The only way to redeem herself is to convince Alex, the wildly popular, wildly demanding former star of her show, to come back. But there's one obstacle in her way--one very handsome, broad-shouldered obstacle. . .

Professor Mason Mitchell is head of the theater department where Alex is studying "real" acting. The only way he'll let Faith anywhere near Alex is if she agrees to co-teach a class. It's an offer she can't refuse--and as it turns out, the professor just might end up teaching Faith that there's more to life than work--and that real-life love scenes are way more fun than fake ones. . .

'Modern Women' has been Faith Sinclair's baby since its inception. She created it, lobbied it, sold it and worked it for as many years as she cared to remember. The TV show was her life! But her sexist boss apparently does not take too kindly to being grabbed by the balls....literally....because she now finds herself outside of the studio gates, without an office, a job.......a show! After spending some time aimlessly floating, Faith pulls up her bootstraps and sets out, determined to regain the favour of the studio, her boss and get her show back. And she knows just how to do it!

Alex had been a fan favourite member of the 'Modern Women' cast, but had left the show the last season under........let's just say, difficult circumstances. Faith will convince Alex to come back to the show for the new season and is sure that the job will be hers again. She doesn't count on a small town college professor, however.

Professor Mason Mitchell has offered Alex privacy at the college where Mason is head of the theatre department. All Alex wants to do is hone his art. The only way Mason will let Alex's former boss even on the grounds of the college, is if the renowned Faith Sinclair helps him out and teaches a part time course in scriptwriting. Not having anything better to do, and really wanting a chance to corner Alex, Faith takes on the task.

In working with the students, and oh so closely with Mason, Faith is discovering she may have more valuable things to learn than she has to teach.

Faith really comes across as an island at first.....not necessarily maliciously egotistical, but more naively unaware of anything outside of her immediate periphery. Anyone and anything connected to her show however, has her highest priority. Growing up in a bubble does that to you. When she starts teaching at the college and makes connections there, she can't help but notice that everything to do with her or the show, has a ripple effect into the rest of the world, and she starts viewing her role and her actions in a different light. Mason plays a big role in that discovery, just as Faith encourages Mason to view his dreams more as possibilities to pursue, rather than secrets to hide under the bed.

This was an absolute fun read!! Lots of smart, witty humour in the writing. Some aspects of the story felt a little 'unfinished', but I think in a way that fits with the Hollywood theme. There was a romantic aspect to the book, but it didn't take a major role and it remained PG. Well written!!!

If you're looking for an entertaining chick lit romance that will tickle your funny bone, then Unscripted by author Jayne Denker is the book for you!

As the creator and executive producer of a hit TV drama/comedy, Modern Women, Faith Sinclair is at the top of her career ... that is until she gets into a knock-down drag-out argument with her boss and grabs his (ahem) balls ... now she's persona non grata in Hollywood and has to find a way to get her career back on track. Faith embarks on a journey of self-discovery full of trials and tribulations, crazy antics, and a unexpected romance with a hunky college professor who will change the way Faith lives her life.

Author Jayne Denker weaves a fun story written in the first person narrative that has the reader following Faith Sinclair as her journey to regain her career in the Hollywood entertainment industry is wrought with humorous trials and tribulations and an unexpected chance at finding love. From the opening line of the story: "Usually, grabbing a man's balls can take you far in this business," Faith takes the reader on a hilarious roller coaster ride of a journey that will keep them in stitches. From a crazy British stepbrother, a Mother who is a Hollywood legend, to the college professor who is the perfect man to teach Faith a life lesson, Faith's plan to reclaim her career turns into a journey of self-discovery where she rebuilds her family relationships, while teaching her a life lesson that will change the way she focuses on her career and life.

Unscripted was an absolutely fun story to read, it had quirky wit and humor and a subtle romance that will satisfy chick lit fans. You can't help but love Faith, she's sassy, independent and determined to make it on her own in Hollywood, but the journey she embarks on will profoundly change her way of life when she meets up with hunky college professor Mason Mitchell. With the story set in Hollywood, there is enough drama, crazy antics, romance, and laugh-out-loud moments that will keep you thoroughly entertained!

Thank you to Netgalley for providing an ARC for a fair and honest review.

This book was irreverent, unpredictable, and just what I needed.

The opening sentence of this book really sets the tone. "Usually, grabbing a man's balls can take you far in this business."

Faith Sinclair has struggled to make her own way in Hollywood. Having a famous director mother, Faith could have skated by on her name alone, but Faith wanted to make it on her own. She wanted to stand on her own two feet. After creating and perfecting a highly successful TV drama, Faith ends up losing her job after attempting to manhandle her boss into seeing things her way. Her only hope is to get the extremely popular Alex to come back to the show. Her best friend assures her that if Alex comes back, Faith's ex-boss will give her her job back.

Faith finds Alex attending a small college outside of L A. As she attempts to approach Alex, she is blocked by the wildly handsome professor Mason Mitchell, head of the theater department where Alex is studying "real" acting. The good professor has promised to protect Alex from fans and people seeking to harm him while he is attending the college. Professor Mitchell places Faith firmly in this category and keeps her away until he gets her to promise to help teach a class.

This story offers a different side of Hollywood than what we usually see. The relationship between Professor Mitchell and Faith Sinclair is a fun, grown-up relationship that I love. I adore the way Mason handles Faith with a strange mix of awe and steel. You can tell that Mason worships Faith and thinks she's spectacular, but he also stands up to her and challenges her in ways she's never even dreamed.

Faith Sinclair was on the top of her career path, when she made the mistake of grabbing her boss by the "cahoonas" to make a point that he was being a sexist pig. As the producer of a top rated TV show, Fatih now finds herself blacklisted. Jobless, Faith unintentionally enbarks on a journey of discover.

If that isn't enough, something strange is happening with all her credit cards and bank accounts leaving her without access to her money.

Deciding the only way back to the top is to convince “Alex”, the star she kicked off the show, to come back. Tracking him down to an acting program in a community college, Faith finds out that convincing Alex may not be as easy as it seems.

The professor in charge of acting, Mason Mitchell, is very protective of his students and offers Faith the chance to contact Alex only if she agrees to co-teach a class.

This is a very funny, sweet story about Faith's growth as a person. Jayne Denker provides fabulous insight into Faith's journey to self discovery, rebuilding family relationship and finding what she lost by her single minded career focus.

I loved Mason, he provides such strong support but is willing to tell Faith how it is and not cower to her fame.

Uncscripted was a completely enchanting, entertaining and wonderful read. It had me laughing out loud and routing for the quirky Faith till the end.

Well, this cover is misleading! This was not about college-aged people falling in love in the grass! But I enjoyed reading this book a lot. I always have a soft spot for Hollywood TV shows stories, like they're long, delightful RPF written just for me. I loved Faith, who was a great main character. This book is really her story, more than a romance - I loved her character arc, I loved how she had built her own TV show, I liked her relationship with her mother and how it evolves, I liked her prickly personality. (The only thing I wasn't too sure about was the whole Jamie thing, it just sounded like he didn't deserve the amount of familial love she gave him.) I liked that she was confident, but that she managed to become more human while staying confident and proud of her accomplishments, if that makes any sense. I obviously adored Mason, who was an awesome hero, I mean, hello, college teacher, just catnip right there. I thought their relationship was believable and well-developed. The entire Alex thing was interesting, too, though it wasn't my favorite part of the book.

I'm always a little embarrassed to say how much I enjoyed this kind of book, because, I mean, clearly it's not Literature with the capital L, but what the hell, I enjoyed reading this a lot and I think you will too!

[ARC received from NetGalley for fair and honest review.] Five thumbs up for Jayne Denker's sexy romp through Hollywood highs and lows, Unscripted. After reading Jayne Denker's soon-to-be-released Down on Love (21 Nov 2013 pub date), I really wanted to read some of her other books. Luckily her publisher had one, Unscripted, available for review.

What a difference between the two books - Down on Love the quintessential small town romance with Unscripted set in big, bad Hollywood. But what they both share are two kick-ass heroines whom I admired more with each page I turned.

I've never spent time in Hollywood for work, but have worked around stage actors, writers, and directors for a long time, so when the plot lines that Denker used seem real to the reader, may I say that they are. Mom, who was also a theater brat, told me to (a) never marry an actor and (b) never marry a Hungarian (long story). I followed her advice and remain unmarried, but did date a few actors along the way. They were nice and probably would have met with her seal of approval, but I also saw quite a few that would have served as role models for Luke. In fact, if this were ever made into a movie or television special they should audition - it would be typecasting.

The studio heavy, the wild Brit brother, the seemingly self-absorbed mother who demolished Hollywood's glass ceiling, and the hot, hunky theater professor - yes, this is a fun book to read. But it's more than fun, it's touching.

Faith Sinclair, the creator, producer, director, and writer of the hit cable series Modern Women - goes from Hollywood hottie with everyone's ear to persona non grata after literally grabbing the balls of her boss. I did say she was spunky and kick-ass, right? I won't give a way the plot, but somehow she finds herself co-teaching a script writing class with Professor Mason Mitchell, the head of a community college theater department, while she tries to convince Luke to return to his role on Modern Women - which would save the show and also return her to her rightful place as producer. As the story unwinds, so does Faith, and as we learn more about her the more we care about the outcome of Unscripted.

I have to say that I still love Down on Love a little more, but Unscripted has a place in my heart too. Denker has a real gift for making her characters come alive on the page and making us care about them. So definitely five thumbs up for Unscripted and don't forget to pre-order Down on Love. Let the cameras roll.

Unscripted is the 2nd book I've read by Jayne Denker and I have to say I'm quickly becoming a fan. Her books are sweet and fun to read. This story is peppered with laugh out loud one liners and more than a few hilarious supporting characters.

Faith Sinclair is at the top of her game, or at least she was until she'd had it with her boss and grabbed him by the balls to get her point across during a meeting. She figured she would give him a few days to calm down, apologize and all would be forgiven. Boy, was she wrong! Not only, was she fired, but she quickly found out that she was blackballed and anyone that knows Hollywood knows the Industry is a small world. It doesn't matter that she was the head writer of one of the most popular reality shows on tv, once you've been blackballed there wasn't much you could do, but ride it out. Or if you are Faith "freaking" Sinclair you come up with some kind of scheme to get you back in the game.

Professor Mason Mitchell was offered his dream job of being a writer for a popular show. But, when he found out that Faith was no longer the head writer he declined the position. It wasn't the job that was his dream, it was working with the super talented Faith Sinclair. When fate intervenes and he finds himself face to face with Faith and in the position to help her to see that the world isn't all about her and her getting her job back he offers the help. He admits he made some snap judgments based on his first couple encounters with Faith, but the more he gets to know her the more he finds himself liking Faith and respecting her for more than her writing talent.

This book is such a joy to read. Faith is funny without intentionally trying to be. It seems like bad luck and pratfalls are sure to follow her in her every endeavor. I absolutely loved her step-brother and his zany friends. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, light-hearted read.

How many books begin with a woman grabbing her arrogant boss' private parts? I'm a huge fan of Ms. Denker's and the start of this book only made me appreciate her writing even more. Faith struggled to become a successful TV creator/producer without enlisting the help of her mother, an iconic director, only to be undone by the aforementioned gaffe. Desperate to save her show, her career and her pride, she embarks on a journey to track down the actor whom she is convinced can fix everything. Barreling in without a real plan, she finds herself faced with a new love interest in the form of a sexy college professor, the unexpected chance of having a better relationship with her distant mother and the realization that things are not always as they seem.

Ms. Denker's writing is engaging and witty, resulting in my complete addiction to her stories. Faith charmed me from the first page with her determination, sarcastic demeanor and choice language. Her love interest, Professor Mason Mitchell, handles her with just the right combination of charisma and strength. Their interactions are fraught with passion, tenderness and plenty of steam. With her usual knack for adding a charming cast of characters, Ms. Denker rounded out her story with a number of hilarious sub plots. My favorite involves her highly amusing British step-brother who just happens to empty her bank account.

Another excellent story from Ms. Denker. Be prepared to laugh out loud often!

This was my first time reading this author's work and I can sum up what I thought about it in five words:

I AM NOW A FAN.

I loved the book! It was funny, engaging, well-written, and just entertaining as heck. My face was glued to my phone as I read most of it at work yesterday. I loved the inside/behind-the-scenes perspective of the running of a television show, and by a woman, no less. I loved Faith, even though her stubborness seemed to be a tiny bit to her detriment at times. (And there is no WAY I wouldn't have called the police if someone did to me what Jamie did to her, relative or no relative. But that's just me).
It was cool seeing how Faith and Mason's relationship developed from their random meeting in the studio parking lot. The kinda-sorta-but-not-really triangle between Faith, Mason, and Alex is the tug I know I've experienced myself of what I think I want and what I actually need. I thought Faith would find some reason to pull back once she and Mason got together, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Was I crazy about the ending? Ehh...it was cool. Not a let-down but not mind-blowing (which might not have even been the goal). I guess some might call it predictable but I won't use that word (which, as an author is kind of a kick in the gut). It was a nice ending, and there's nothing wrong with that. I wasn't disappointed.
I will DEFINITELY be reading more of Ms. Denker's works. She's awesome.

Faith Sinclair, a producer of a top rated TV show is now in trouble after she made a mistake by grabbing her boss’s privates. Now she found herself jobless and blacklisted. Faith needs to get back on her feet. And to get back to her show, she needs to convince Alex, a former star of her show, to come back.

Unscripted is a light, cute read with bits of romance and Hollywood scenes. I was hooked with Unscripted from the very beginning. I love the story line, the dialogues, characters and I love Faith ‘Freakin’ Sinclair. It was very hard not to like Faith. She’s smart, confident and she can be funny too. I think the author did a pretty good job with writing this through Faith’s point of view. I thoroughly enjoy reading this book and I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fun, relaxing read.

I though I would be disappointed in the beginning.
why would I buy it I'm first place? I don't know maybe the author and reviews.
As I read, I started to enjoy it far more than expected. Also, I really like the character. First her than the others.
the story was different and very fresh. it seemed to be light but it went deeper.
Faith was someone strong and with a big ego. Thinking that all her life was about a show. And things got better or worse. She saw everything in a different light, took thing easier. But where I first like her was for her love how strong she wanted to keep it close and e was a giving person even with her ego or her work/life. it was just because she hadn't had the chance to look back or take things slow or differently.

This was cute and funny. I thought it was going to be more romance but it was more about Faith growing within herself. I loved perfect Mason and enjoyed the LOL moments. I'm not huge on constant flashbacks, but they did not super annoy me. It was a good relaxed read!

Fun read!

This was a fun read with an amazing female character. Faith is a strong, no holds barred woman who goes after what she wants. I can't wait to read more of Jayne Denker's books!

Quite good.

This was fun and quick to read. I thought Faith referring to Mason as "Mr. Professor Mason Mitchell" was amusing as she first used it sarcastically. Faith finds herself banned from the studio where her show is filmed and herself repulsed by the changes made to her show. When she attempts to coax a fan favourite actor back to the show, and secure her job again, her life is turned upside down.
Many amusing conversations and narration make this rom com quite a lot of fun. I appreciated that the sex scenes were behind closed doors as it leaves much to the imagination. I'm looking forward to reading more by Jayne Denker.

I didn’t understand how Faith could have done what she did accidentally, and the book didn’t show enough of what was happening in the present to explain Faith’s actions.

I didn’t like Faith’s stepbrother because of how self-centred he was, and I also didn’t understand their relationship.

Something else happens with Faith’s ‘friend’ and I just didn’t care to continue with this book.

My life is a reality show

It was funny, outrageous and sweet. Loved when she grabbed Randy you know where, but also loved Mason and Faith’s discovery of each other. Dealing with Alex, who thought he was IT, but lost it when he could no longer control Faith. Glad to see they killed off his character. And don’t forget Kaylee, Jamie, Mona and Dominick.

Please note that the one star is only my note to myself (in case I forgot I downloaded it once) that this is a book that is written in the first person...which I NEVER like to read. I did not read this, and if you don't mind first person stories, it may well be a good novel, but not for me.

Oh my gosh where to begin with this book, there is so much greatness in this story. In it we follow Faith "Freakin'" Sinclair who has gotten herself in a major jam at work when she offends her boss and finds herself unemployed and black balled basically everywhere. Finding herself with no other option she swallows her pride and decides to hunt down the one person who can fix her damaged career barring she can convince him to come back to Modern Women.

While on the hunt for Alex she comes eye to eye with Professor Mason Mitchell who seems to be a thorn in her side when she is trying to trap Alex to talk to him. Pro. Mitchell will only allow her to access Alex as long as she doesn't brow beat him into submission or con him into returning. The other contingency is being asked to co-teach a class in order to have access to Alex to begin with.

It takes a bit for Mason and Faith to meet eye to eye on anything and that is after Faith's step-brother has been helping himself to all her money and she is stuck relying on Mason to help her find a place to stay while co-teaching. Then Faith winds up sick and Mason and one of his students help her get better.

I loved this story so much the realness of the characters that Ms. Denker brings to the reader is so incredible. She writes characters you can hate and ones you can love. She also gives you a book you don't want to put down it's that good. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. Reminds me alot of Jill Shalvis and Kristan Higgins but in her own right so much better! If you haven't read her books you are really missing out!

Sometimes expectations really color your view of a book. I went into this one expecting romance to be the focus of the book. There definitely was romance, but I think the focus of the book was Faith's personal growth. When you add in the first person POV, the pretty much perfect guy paired with the heroine full of flaws, and don't forget the moments of humiliation... that reads more like Chick Lit to me, and Chick Lit is not my favorite genre.

I felt like there was a lot of time and detail spent on the set up of the story, and it dragged. I could have done without the flashbacks, or at least without most of them.

On the plus side, the writing WAS funny. It actually made me smile at times. This would probably work really well for someone who liked chick lit or is a huge Kristan Higgins fan.

This is the third book of Ms. Denker's that I've read and she has yet to disappoint. A little more 'in your face' than her sweet, small-town Marsden series, Unscripted is a funny look at some behind the scenes of the Hollywood TV scene. From the first paragraph, I was hooked. Seriously, one of the best first paragraphs I've ever read. A closed-door romance that will have you cheering for Faith. This is romantic comedy and chick lit at its finest. Ms. Denker is a go-to author for me, and Unscripted is a must read.

Hmm. Overall the story was good but I was expecting a romance and got more of a coming of age story - except the main character wasn't a young twenty-something, but rather a thirty-something having to re-evaluate her life and priorities. If you go into it wanting that type of story, you'll be fine, but I was almost halfway finished before I felt engaged, and the main character was pretty selfish for most of the plot line.

It was okay

First of all, this held my interest and I read it in one day so that's a plus. It was fun, and funny, and I liked Faith for most of the book. She was a tv producer who made some questionable choices and ended up co-teaching a class at a community college. Mason, the professor, seemed almost too good to be true at times. Unfortunately, I felt like I was reading a backstory for a tv show, complete with a season finale cliffhanger.

The last book I picked up I DNF’d at chapter six. I couldn’t get through chapter one in this book. Told in first person, the heroine’s generic bravado (“I’d gotten even closer to him . .. and grabbed his ball-sack”) and trite characterization are too much too stomach. DONE
