I have only read one other dragon shifter book before, very different than this one, but I loved them both.

Ronnie comes from a broken home, a product of domestic abuse but she doesn't cling to her role as victim. She often deflects the anger of her step-father from her mother. She is a hero in that sense alone.

Liam is a dragon shifter with little experience guarding a ward of this sort. He is a fierce warrior and blood thirsty. I wont say Ronnie tames him, that is not true, but she helps him grow to learn that there is more to even a dragon than blood lust and war.

Their relationship is not easy and both make mistakes, it was quick and passionate but also sweet and affectionate.

*****SPOILERS BELOW*****

I wont usually post anything that can be viewed as a spoiler but I think this is the one refreshing detail that set this book apart from others!

OK, my spoiler has to do with the ending. Which I absolutely, 100% LOVED! Liam helped Ronnie grow enough that, even though she wanted him, she was not crippled by his leaving. She was strong enough to be alone! How often do you read where the heroine is just ruined, an empty husk, a shell of her former self, when her man leaves? It gets so old. I loved the courage it took Jeannette to NOT give Ronnie what many would perceive as the perfect happy ending. But to me these perfect happy endings are what hold us back from thinking that we have any worth outside of a relationship/couple. She found her worth and wasn't going to shrivel up and die because she was "alone". *GASP* God forbid.

Way to go, Jeannette, for sending the message that it isn't a relationship that makes you worthy of happiness.

Another point made: Domestic abuse is a cycle that can be broken without breaking you first.

This is a beautiful cover and because of that very misleading. This book started out very good, but doesn't do the cover justice. I'm a sucker for abused heroines who then become strong and fight for what's right, but that didn't happen either.

The dialogue in this book seemed forced and awkward to me. The non use of contractions in the sayings felt like I was reading a biography. People usually do not talk like this, because it will take longer for everything to come out and by then I will be sleeping. The funny thing is that when the author used contractions it was Ronnie's mind talking and not the character. It felt like she was trying to heighten the word count on her novel.

I've decided that this book deserves a theme song, which would be Hot 'N Cold By Katy Perry. Why you ask? Well one moment Veronica (AKA Ronnie) stands up to her abuser and the next she's a coward waiting to get hit. She meets a guy who just out of no where knows personal stuff about her and she just lets a "slide" (her word, not mine). Now tell me if someone started talking to you said that your used to pain without having seen you have ANY tattoos AT ALL, would you be all "How did he know I have tattoos?" or "WTF! He's a creep, I better get out while I can". My point.

This book get's into one paranormal creature that I definitely love to read about, but the author just killed it with Ronnie's reactions. I ask you again: If you just found out that your possible "guardian" becomes a creature out of this world would your first question be "How is it that you can speak to me without moving your mouth"? The better reaction would be to question my sanity and mention how DANGEROUS that creature can be (which the author neglected to say).

Miracles happen as well in this novel. Ronnie's mom is a hardcore alcoholic (been that way since her father left 6 years ago). Out of the blue, one bright morning her mom become sober, kicks out Mr. Abuser and stays that way. WTF, she did a 180 over night? Lets not forget to mention she got a job the next day. Explain to me, in detail, how believable that is.

On a side note, in the whole book it was emphasized that all creatures out of the norm can read minds. I lost count of how many times Ronnie "forgot" and got embarrassed over it. Also, I'm not a grammar freak, this was the first time it actually got on my nerves. I usually do let a lot slide because the story is more important then the mistakes, but OMG that was ticking me off by chapter 5. Every few paragraphs there would be a missing word or a missing "s" for the sentence to make sense.

P.S. This could have been an amazing trilogy with well thought out dialogue and natural character development but became a rushed 250 page eBook. I would had been happier waiting for the sequel, then with a rushed piece of work that I regret buying.

^^ me right now.... and while reading most of this book, novella, thing.

Okay before I get into the nitty-gritty that is my review. Song choice.... "Satellite Heart" by Anya Marina and "Sweet Dreams" by yes, omgosh she does listen to more than indie music, shocking i know, anyways by Beyonce

kay back to this:
So First thoughts: I was extremely excited to start this, why you ask? I FUCKING LOVE DRAGONS, give me all of the dragon shifter books i can get my hands on because i love them! almost as much as i love werewolves, they are getting there trust me but i don't run across them very often. And if i do they tend to be more fantasy/historical reads as well, and while those are awesome but sometimes i want a modern read with dragon shifters. and the concept of this book was awesome, totally awesome i was super excited to start it. And honestly i was concerned when i noticed on amazon, it was ONLY 69 pages. YUP! that is not one of those times amazon is being cra, its honestly just that short which comes into A HUGE issue with me. ANYWAYS before i get in-depth with first thoughts: it was a short, sort of fun read with real issues. emphasis on SHORT.

Thoughts on Plot/Romance: SSSSSSSSSSSSooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i knew this was going to move fast because of the fact it was ONLY 69 PAGES LONG, yup i am not letting that one go. SO biggest elephant that needs to be dealt with is obviously the fact that she compares Liam to Ewdward the sparkling vampire, HAHAHA tricked you, you thought it was going to be about its shortness didn't you! well anyways the point is...seriously COMPARES HOT-ASS, BAD-ASS Dragon shifter to The Sparkling Vampire Wonder.... UGH, mind you i did laugh a little when she said Liam was hotter but still come on! Don't worry the dragon's don't sparkle or anything like that. So now that i got that out of my system. WHHHYYYYYY?!?!?! WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS ONLY 69 PAGES, WHY?! there could have been so much more, this could have been SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH MORE. I was starting to really like the writing style, and the voices of the characters but really the plot/romance/length of this book ruined it for me! i am sorry to say it, but its true!!! The plot while awesome was too condensed, and when real tension started it was defused in the worst possible way, truly i hate saying these things really i do! but there it is. Okay so an example is this one part the MC Ronnie was yelling at this dragon and it was getting really good, the tension was at its breaking point and i was on the edge of my seat literally, and then she just destroys it by saying, "oh hey, why does this happen?" LIKE SERIOUSLY? WHAT.THE.HELL. not okay gah! insert desk for head to fall on. Alright letting that go now....and trust me that is not the only case of that happening.

The Romance: OH GOD. THE BOOK WAS 69 PAGES LONG! I knew i should have expected this, really i do find myself even wondering why i am sooo annoyed/pissed when i knew that this was the only way. If you thought the love between Edward and Bella was sudden and out of the blue, well I got one here that can go head to head with that. they met, he saves her once, and suddenly they were both "falling in love" talk about lust at first sight, i mean lust...oh no that was right. seriously they have less than a day together before they are falling in lloooovvvvvveee, it reminds me of Romeo and Juliet, oh by the way i hated Romeo and Juliet as a romance, as a comedy/satire, it was amazing, so ask me about that later if you want to know what the hell i am talking about. Seriously they don't know each other and they are "falling min love" no. again it was too short it was trying to do too much in too short of a time. this could have been easily, EASILY over 100 pages let alone 200 if the time was put into it. NOW if this was like a sampler of a book the author was working on, and this was like a condensed version, PLEASE bring it on!! i would love to read it.

in the end lots of good ideas were started but it all sort of fell flat for me because there wasn't enough time for anything to build and anything that was built up was quickly doused with water, and dirt, and a fire extinguisher, and anything else you can think of that puts out a fire, like an lack of oxygen. THE WORST part is that i am really sadden by this because it could have been so much more in my eyes. oh and if you are wondering they have one sex scene and it was super tame. sorry no offense but it was.

Characters (totally disregarding their suddenly intense love for each other that popped out of their reproductive systems):

Ronnie: See i liked her. While she was bitter about her situation she stuck it out because in the end she loved her mother, and she was respectful of the fact that her mother was her mother. the woman who held in her in own body for 9 months then pushed her out of her own lady parts and god that had to be painful as hell. Anyways but she is careful and she is a bit bitter, and i really liked her. While she says later that she isn't one to antagonize and try to piss off people that is the total opposite, she is always trying to antagonize and bother, well obviously she did to Ben the villain of the story because she was trying to save her mother from a beating. But I wanted good things to happen for her and i wanted her to have more with Liam but seriously with the way she was raised where her father left and there was a line of bad step-dads trusting/falling in love so quickly totally unbelievable for me. i couldn't believe it.

Ronnie's mother: NOT REAL. omgosh you don't just randomly wake up after 5 years of being an alcoholic, and Ben beating on your kid on a regular basis and decide, YUP now i am going to change. NO, NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! while i am glad that her character wanted to change its not that easy. THE BOOK WAS TO SHORT. god dammit i won't let that go.

Liam: WWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLL i liked him and i didn't. I liked him because well he was hot, bad ass and a dragon. He took charge and was scared of nothing. BUTTTTTT here is the thing he is supposed to be this non-feeling dragon, but he feel really hard, really fast for this never caring over 4000 year old dragon, for a seemingly "unremarkable" girl....(which that confused me because Ronnie was like, oh i am not pretty, then a line LITERALLY a line later says that guys stop and stare at her as she walks by....um pretty i think so...stupid...alright letting that one go, only to start this again....THE BOOK WAS TOOOOO WAY TOOO SHORT. there was so much story and not enough words, if that makes sense. )

SO in the end, will i read the next one... probably, why? i am not really sure... i guess i find this story addictive in the sense i want to know what happens next. God i honest to god thing this would have been the most fantastically, beautiful, awesome story only if it was longer. again like i said too much story but not enough words.

Welp! That is the end of this review, i am going to not going to this whole long thing about having a blog because its annoying really. so if you want to check us out you can, and when i say "us" i mean a friend and i do a blog together, so come check it out: http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp...

If you are looking for a story full of hearts and flowers and sweet words well you have come to the wrong place. If you want a story full of passion and a rawness that you don't often see, then welcome.!

This is a story about a beautiful girl named Veronica, or Ronnie as her friends call her. She hasn't had a very easy life. Her father left when she was younger, her mother became a raging alcoholic to numb the pain and seems to only bring home abusive and perverted men. All she wants to do is be free, feel safe and loved, and above all else be worthy. So she decides to treat herself to a birthday surprise, and low and behold is given an amazing dragon tattoo. She later finds that because of the tattoo she is bound to the fierce black dragon warrior Liam, who has her back and shows Ronnie her true self worth.

I can honestly say that I didn't want this book to end. I found it both satisfying and frustrating and I so loved the part where they decided to throw caution to throw caution to the wind. Making their little bit of time together count and having those few memories of each other to last a lifetime. Fate is a B*!$%, lesson learned. I hope, no scratch that I can't wait until we get to see more of not only Ronnie and Liam but Jeanette Medina's writing.

P.S. If you are familiar with Jeanette Medina from I Heart Books, expect to find a Booty Pop somewhere in the story. I laughed so hard when I found it!

Wow! Quick heartfelt read! In this story you will be introduced to a new type of guardian angel. It is an awesome story about picking yourself up and starting over! I read this in two settings - if I hadn't been so tired, I would have finished it the first day! At times it brought tears to my eyes, and other times (see the quote below) had me laughing out loud! And now a bit about the story...

Veronica (or Ronnie to her friends) has had a hard life since her father left. She was 13 years old and her mom didn't handle it well. Turning to the bottle and bad choices in men landed them in trouble. The morning she turned 18 her step dad gives her a black eye, but she isn't going to let it get her down. She works her shift at the diner and then goes out to get herself a present - a new tattoo! Little does she know she is about to change her life. Check out this book to meet Liam, her tattoo and protector!

Favorite passage: "There's no sock there." I looked up at him really fast, and just then I knew I was about to fall over and die from embarrassment.

I would just like start of with saying thank you to Jeannette for giving me the ARC to read.

WOW this was a wonderful fast-paced tale, that pulled me right in from the start, I only with wish that it was longer, but Ill be waiting to see more books coming from this author in the years to come.

Liam is one sexy beast you must get to know... this book had me laughing out loud with line's like this ( Just because I'm on a diet, doesn't mean I can't look at menu honey.....)and more, I'm not going to say to much as I don't want to give the story away, all in all do pick up this book as it is a wonderful read in a world that I had never been to before and would love to re-visit one day soon.

Even though I enjoyed the story, I only gave it a 3 for couple of reasons.
1. It was such an incredible concept...a dragon tattooed on a girl's shoulder that comes to life to protect her. It was great. But the story was shallow. It could have been developed into such a fantastic novel...such wonderful possibilities. Unfortunately, it was too short as if it was just a rough draft.
2. The editing was horrible!!! It goes back to what I said before - it seemed liked a rough draft. There were lots of grammatical errors, spelling errors, and point of view disconnects.

I think Ms. Medina has great potential. I just think she needs to slow down and take time to develop her amazing characters and their lives.

This was most certainly an epic waste of time.
I mean for God's Sake!
You can't even call this a HEA!

I swear there was literally NOTHING in this book.
You wouldn't even be able to find the plot with all lights blazing. And interesting, strong, not really so desperate characters? What's that novel concept?

I am so frustrated right now. I'm curb my tongue here before it does away with me.

I received this book when I won a contest. I had never seen it before but figured I would enter the contest so I could read the book. Here is my honest review on this book.

Bound to Me is about a young woman who is trying to survive in an abusive household and decides to get a tattoo with the money she has from her secret job. This tattoo ends up changing her life in more ways than one.

Bound to Me first of all is a Novella. It is short in length but packs a punch. I normally don't read Novellas since they are too short and most of them that I have read the story really moves too fast. IN my opinion the same thing with this one. It was VERY fast moving and I felt there could have been more to the story. I think the author should take this Novella and either turn it into a Novel or continue on the story. At the end it says The End...For Now...so who knows. There may be another book.

With that being said, this book was a great story. While aspects of it seemed rushed to me and could have been better with some more story behind it, I feel the author wrote it well and has potential. I will definitely read other works from her if she writes more. The editing from what I could tell was good and there were few mistakes if any. I don't think in my opinion that this was an action packed book but more of a heartfelt book. You wanted to cry at times but at the same time you were happy for the lessons learned and the relationships changed. I definitely think this is a book that is worth the read if you are into Novellas or like a quick short read.

Really good debut short story. Very easy to read and follow and who wouldn't love a dragon that turns into a sexy man?! My only disappointment was that I was so into the story that I wished that it was longer. I would love to delve into the world of these dragons. I myself can just picture all different kinds of scenarios . Veronica (Ronnie) is a character that I think most people can relate to in one way or another and she is also a very likable character. All in all I really enjoyed the story and I hope that this world may have a continuation in the future.

A girl with nothing else to lose.
A life that’s brought nothing but pain.
A tattoo that’s more than what it seems.

Eighteen-year old Veronica has had enough. Her alcoholic mother has only delivered a slew of abusive step-fathers and life is only getting harder. What was to be a simple tattoo for her birthday brings more than she ever imagined.

I was drawn to this book after reading the blurb. I thought the concept was unique and I was immediately intrigued. I also loved the cover. The book fell short for me though. There was great potential but there were a few things that made me give it only 3 star. Firstly everything was far too rushed and this I felt was a result of the book being so short. There was no time for Ronnie and Liam to fully flesh out there relationship and so I felt like they fell for each other far too quickly. It was definitely a case of insta-love which I was disappointed with. I would have loved a slower progression of their relationship. I never really connected with either character.
There was also numerous grammatical errors. There was a constant switching of tenses in the middle of sentences and several spelling errors.
This book has great potential and I can see this author bringing out some great books but I felt this book was far too rushed and not enough time put into it. The author should have spent more time fleshing out the characters and the story and definitely on the editing. A good attempt at a debut novel.

This is a cute and captivating story that makes you think. Medina has a good storyline with a well-developed mythology of dragons to back it up. Medina’s writing draws you in and keeps you there. She describes everything brilliantly and keeps her readers completely in the loop. Unfortunately the large number of referenced to pop culture will date the story, taking away from the illusion of timelessness, but not from the story itself. There were also some punctuation and grammatical errors that broke the pace of the story a bit, but not too much. I did appreciate the very atypical ending to this story, even if it was a big shocker.

The interesting characters really draw you in. Medina’s cast of characters is quite well developed for a novella. They are individuals whom I’d love to see again. I love the unique take on the dragon concept and their interactions with humans.

Overall, this was a good novella that would have made a brilliant novel had it been padded out a bit more and had some more time under an editor.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a good short read. I love the aspect of Dragons, it's something not over done in the Paranormal Romance category. There's also a strong message in this story that I think a lot of young girls could benefit from. There are countless women in abusive relationships, either their own or via a family member. I think it's great that the author brings it to light and shows a character strong enough to stand up for themselves and family. It really was an enjoyable read. The cover is captivating. I love how it looks. Definitely grabs your eye.

But, with every book there is pros and cons...
Few small editing errors, but nothing too harsh as to take away from reading. The main issue was going from 1st to 3rd person or using the wrong tense of a word. The whole thing felt rushed. There's no real depth to the characters, other than Ronnie's determination to stand up against Ben. I think some better back-story or character development and editing will make this book a 5 star. In no way does it mean I didn't like the book! I really did enjoy this story, just needs touching up!

I liked the book it has a good leson in it. The Author did a awesome job on the writing kept me into it the whole book.I liked Ronnie i thought she was pretty awesome charecter. I did not like the dragons i thouhgt they were just using her to teach the black dragon to love. Leave Ronnie broken hearted like she did not have enough to deal with having an abusive step dad and drunk mother. In the book Ronnie thinks the dragon helps her relize she is worth something but i say she learned it on her own the dragon did not help much besides breaking her heart.Devon the white dragon really did not care about Ronnie he was just using her to help the black dragon learn to love so he can go on to love someone else. That is why i only gave three stars the lesson the author is trying to put out there gets recived just not like she wants us to belive that the dragons helped.

This book was a wonderful fast-paced tale of love and what it means to truly live each day as if it were your last. The ease of the relationship built between Liam and Veronica swept me away on the wings of a red-eyed, black dragon. Jeanette has a definite knack for writing and I am excited to watch her grow. This is easily a five star rating. The lessons learned and the love and magic felt kept me on my toes and wanting more. Good job, dragon girl!

I am not sure how I feel about this book. I did, however, devour this book. I feel a little dissatisfied with the book overall. I feel like there was something missing, like more action or something? I enjoy the characters but there were a few things I did connect to or with. The ending left me hanging as well... somewhat, I think, of a cliff hanger?? Anyhow, I do recommend this book and I will buy the next one in the series.

Bound to me is an easy read. Totally takes you to a magical place. A teenager dealing with her drunk mother and abusive step father. Ronnie decides to celebrate her 18th birthday by getting herself a special tattoo. Thanks to Devon her life will never be the same. I give it 5 stars. The only thing is the book ended too soon, but am excellent first book. I am hoping this will become a series. Looking forward to hearing more about Draconia. I totally recommend this book.

More like 1.5 stars.

Sadly, Bound to Me was a disappointment.

This could easily have been a full book with 200+ pages. It could have left room for a lot more character development and better story-telling. Instead, I found myself hating that it was novella length. Because not only was I not able to connect with the characters, but I didn't find all of what happened in such a short time believable.

Veronica is physically abused by her step-father. Her mother just up and kicks him out one day because he hit Ronnie, which she just couldn't stand to see, as if he hasn't been hitting her daughter for years. She goes to a tattoo parlor on her 18th birthday and gets more than she bargained for. When her step-father comes at her, a hot, naked male appears and drives him away. Turns out, he's really a dragon. They fall in love instantly (which I detest, because it never seemed real). Her mom quits drinking (which I don't believe could have happened so easily since her mom is an alcoholic), and she manages to find a job one day after looking. Veronica and Liam have one beautiful night together. But they can only have one, because love is forbidden to him. And that was the lesson his elders, the White Guardians, wanted to teach him. Apparently, black dragons don't believe in love. After being put in the hospital by the step-father who won't stay away and saying goodbye to Liam, Veronica goes back to work.

...that's it. That's the plot. Oh, and there was an epilogue. But to be honest, I thought it could have done without that.

And I have to mention this: the editing was horrible. The writing was back and forth between present tense and past tense. As an English major, I can't overlook it. Maybe I could have if I had actually liked the story. But in reality, the sophomoric writing could not be redeemed.

I added a half star because the concept was cool. Dragon tattoos. Guardians bound to protect humans. Forbidden love. Dangerous and beautiful. It sounds so good, right? Sadly, I was wrong. Even the concept and idea of these dragon guardians could have been played out better.

I think I would have liked this book more had it been a full length novel. Because, to me, so much went on that it just became a mess. A mess that I had a hard time liking. I was looking forward to this little 'introduction' into the story. But with all that was going on, it was hard to find anything to love about it.

Could have been is the theme for this novella.

This book had so much potential...

Let me start by saying that I liked the concept and the cover.

Ronnie lives at home with an alcoholic mother and an abusive step-father.On her 18th birthday, she gets a new tattoo (which begs the question, how did she legally get the first two?) where the tattoo artist not only reads her mind, but does the tattoo pro bono. After a strange dream featuring a dragon, Ronnie wakes to find that her mother is sober and Ben (step-dad) is gone. Ronnie is later saved by a hot, naked man when Ben attacks her. It turns out that the man is the mind-reading dragon from her dream and they are now bound. They instantly fall in love but learn that this was a lesson to teach Ronnie strength and teach Laim (dragon-man) how to love. They have one passionate night together. Ronnie ends up getting stabbed by Ben and is hospitalized. Liam tells her goodbye and that he'll always love her. She decides to go back to work.

I thought the idea of having a dragon bound to Ronnie was awesome and I'm even ok with the couple not ending up together, but it was just so poorly done.

I don't think that any research was done for this novella and if Medina had researched, she didn't bother to explain much of anything. The alcoholic mother instantly sobered and landed a job and there was no explanation as to how that happened (it's magic, right?) Not to mention the fact that this tattoo required no care whatsoever. I know this is a story that involves dragons, but at least try to make it believable!
Ronnie is such a lacking character. One minute she's standing up to her abuser and scolding Liam, and the next moment she is cowering like a little girl. I spent most of this story shouting at Ronnie to man up, and if there is a real psychological reason for her behavior then it should be developed.
I'm fine with authors leaving some things up to their reader's imaginations, but I shouldn't have to make up everything.

That being said, I really think this novella has potential. Medina needs to go back in and build upon what she has written. If she were to actually take the time to develop her characters and really explore the new world (Dragconia) she mentioned, this could be a great book- if not series. And get some new editors. Seriously.
I would have given this 1.5 if not 2 stars, but these lines killed any hope of that:

"The water droplets gave him a sparkle effect which reminded me of Edward Cullen from that Twilight movie. I always thought men who sparkled were sexy."

Really? You're lucky I gave you any stars!

I just finished reading Bound to Me, a debut novel by Jeannette Medina.

First let me say, I have never read a dragon fantasy before (I'm typically a contemporary romance & horror writer and fanatic) but I must add - I hope Jeannette plans on writing a sequel. Because I absolutely fell in love with this story and characters. The dragon lore is creative and touching. In fact, the entire story is heartfelt. The author did a fantastic job of bringing dragons to life and explaining the how and why of their world.

I don't fall in love with heroines easily, but Ronnie is someone you cannot help but love. She's a survivor. While she works through her dreary life, she's lively and determined, upbeat and funny at times. I'm hesitant to say too much, because I don't want to give anything away, but I wanted to say I loved the initial tattoo parlor scene and description. I think I want a tattoo now :-) Especially if such hot guys work in places like that.

The author has done an amazing job of hooking me right off the bat and flying me through an incredible roller coaster fantasy. I honestly had no clue of what was going to happen next. What I thought would occur, did not. Twice! So I gave up trying to guess and went for the awesome ride. Yes, I did try to guess because I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Ronnie and her dragon tattoo. The author left options open, which I hope she will use in her next book.

Bound to Me is an amazingly imaginative and unique story about Ronnie, who is an ideal heroine. She is stuck in a less than stellar life with an "absent" mother who is suffering loss, and an abusive step father. Where someone in her position might turn to alcohol or drugs, she strives to better herself. She's likable and feisty. Her internalization is gripping and witty. The dialogue is fresh and natural. I can't say much about the dragon, again because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the book. He is dreamy though, containing the hotness that will satisfy readers looking for romance. That much I can say. The story flows nicely and contains good similes such as: "Filth that was my life."

One of my favorite quotes: "Just because I'm on a diet, doesn't mean I can't look." (This doesn't pertain to food:-)

To sum it up, this is a wonderfully entertaining, emotional, well written debut novel that readers who love dragons and fantasy should devour.

This book sucked me in with the concept and the beautiful cover. I love dragons. I thought the idea was original and unique. Unfortunately it just wasn't enough.

Veronica is turning eighteen. Her family life is a nightmare. Broken home, mom has been a drunk since dad left 6 years ago, her new husband is also a drunk and very abusive. So for her birthday Ronnie treats herself to a tattoo. The artist recommends a dragon. Dragons are protectors and this one will "have her back".

In his human form Liam is strong and handsome. Everything a good protector should be. In his dragon form, he's a black dragon. One of the protectors of his race. They are assigned a human in need to protect. Liam is chosen for Ronnie.

Their story is rushed and felt very awkward. The just isn't enough time spent developing what is supposed to be a relationship. After living with an abuser for as long as Ronnie did, she is way too trusting and accepting of this new development in her life. And the ending although realistic, fell short for a "romance" story.

After reading the other reviews for this book, I wonder if I read the same book. Like I said earlier, the concept was amazing. It just fell short. If felt like the whole story was rushed and squeezed down to fit into the number of pages chosen. It just wasn't realistic. Ronnie at first is scared and then the next sentence is accepting of the dragon living on her. Her mother makes an unbelievable recovery, kicks out the abusing husband, cleans up her act and gets a job. All over night?? And then there are the editing mistakes. I had to read some lines several times just to figure out what the author was trying to say. It just was not well written.

It could have been a great full length book, with time taken to finish thoughts and ideas. And some serious editing.

I am thrilled to have been able to read this book before it was released as it is from one of my friends at I Heart Books. I am so proud to have her as a friend, and proud she has achieved her dream. I look forward to reading many more stories in the future.

Veronica, or Ronnie to her friends, is 18 years old. She lives with her alcoholic mother and her abusive partner. She decides, as a birthday present to herself, to get a tattoo. Finding her way to a new tattoo parlour she meets Devon, the tattoo artist, who suggests a dragon tattoo.

"Dragons are protectors, they are valiant and powerful. They protect anything that belongs to them. You look like you could use a guardian in your life."

Ronnie's tattoo, however, is no ordinary tattoo. It is indeed her protector, and comes to life in the form of the very gorgeous Liam whenever she needs help, or protecting.

Ronnie very quickly falls for Liam, as he does also, but can they ever truly be happy? Will Liam always be there for Ronnie or is she destined to lose him? Why was Ronnie chosen to have such a tattoo?

There is a reason for everything in life, and there is a reason for Ronnie and Liam 'finding' each other. Will they both get their 'happy ever after' or is there another destiny ahead for them both?

This is a short story, but is has a lot within it. The author has written from her own personal experiences, which made it even more poignant for me to read. I know the old saying 'write what you know' but for an author to put personal experiences such as these in a story for others to read takes guts. I take my hat off to all authors who do this.

If I had known before I began this novella that it was a prequel to a soon to be released full-length novel, I probably would not have read it at this time. Not because it's not good or because I didn't like it, but because I did! Ms. Medina grabbed a hold of my attention on the first page and did not let go until the every end. Therein lays my problem. I’m not a very patient person, especially when it comes to books. So having to wait for the novel’s release to find out what happens next is guaranteed to drive me nuts. If I had known, I would have waited until the full-length novel was released then read them both back to back.

Ms. Medina touches on alcoholism and abuse in Bound to Me. Two topics typically guaranteed to end any thoughts of romance or love. However she does it without delving so deep into either topic as to make the reader feel uncomfortable. Instead she uses both as a boost to show how our heroine can overcome having to face both on a daily basis to become a stronger person in the end.

Fair warning, this novella does end in a cliffhanger. However, it has such promise and potential that I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens next.

As an avid reader and reviewer, it isn’t often that an author’s talent for telling a story surprises me. I have to admit that Ms. Medina did just that. If you’re expecting a story filled with all heats and roses, you’ve come to the wrong place. But if you’re looking for a well-written gritty story of finding personal strength and growth, you’ve come to the perfect place. Kudos to you, Ms. Medina, for tackling such deep topics. I can’t wait to read the next book… if I can survive the wait.

"Guardians From Another Dimension"

This tale is about an 18-year girl, Veronica (called Ronnie), growing up in New York City with a mom and stepfather who are constantly drunk. At one time, Ronnie and her mom were very close, but when her father left them years ago, her mom, Olivia, could never handle the loss and succombed to booze and not-so-nice men. Her current husband, Ben, used Olivia as a punching bag, and sometimes even Ronnie. At Ronnie's age, she now can leave home and seek a life of freedom, but she cannot leave her mother behind to the rampages of Leo. On her 18th birthday, she treats herself to a new tattoo. She had no idea what kind, but her best friend, Amber, who she works with as a waitress at a restaurant, knows of a new shop that was really popular. The shop, "Dominion" had several customers. When Ronnie approached one of the tattoo artists, Devon (who is large and handsome), he appears to be able to read Ronnie's mind. He recommends a dragon tattoo, all black. He offered the tattoo free for her birthday gift, but he decides where to place the tattoo. How does he know so much about her? That night, Ronnie dreamed a beautiful dream which felt so real. In the dream she was confronted by Liam? Who is Liam? And why does her tattoo move on her body? This is a very unique paranormal romance short story, one to read at bedtime to stimulate your special dreams. The characters are well defined, captivating and unique. The pace moves right along, much too fast .. one wishes that Liam can stay a little longer. Very enjoyable story; try it, you'll like it.

It just wasn't any good, unfortunately. It's a shame because the dragon side of the story was an interesting idea.

Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes were littered throughout. The writing itself was stilted because contractions were dropped and the dialogue was worded in a very formal way.
I think with a little more time, effort and research, this could've been a 3 star read.

Everything was solved with magic. Somehow her mother managed to find a job (and is no longer an alcoholic) at the drop of the hat. Unless more information is given on what type of job she found, I can't accept that she found a job add in the newspaper, called up to enquire and got an interview for that job on the very same day. Assuming that it's set in present day, how would that work? Considering the current job climate, that makes no sense.
It just seemed like the author was so focused on the paranormal romance side of the story, she forgot all about making sure that any normal events should make sense.

If this had been longer then it would've allowed the romance to fully develop as well as give us insight to the dragons and their society. Personally, I thought the romance aspect of it was stupid. I couldn't take them seriously as their relationship came across as more of a silly crush than an epic love story.

Both the writing and the story have potential but if this is what the first book has to offer then I'm not interested in reading the rest.
