MATRICIDE: Hidden Evil : True Crime - Volume 1

Rate this book
Five true crime short stories that depict the heinous act of matricide - the killing of one's own mother. Considered one of the rarest reported murders, it is no wonder that people find themselves morbidly fascinated with the background of the perpetrator. Was the child subjected to physical or sexual abuse? Was there an underlying mental illness that went unnoticed or undiagnosed? The stories presented in this book will provide a unique exploration into the background of a killer.

Christopher Dankovich - A fifteen-year-old kid who brutally stabbed his mother over one-hundred times in the foyer of her Rochester Hills home. There were no signs of mental illness or reported abuse, but there was an underlying tension in the relationship unbeknownst to everyone.

Kevin Davis - An eighteen-year-old loner who strangled, bludgeoned, and raped his mother's corpse in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had struggled with dark thoughts of rape, murder, and torture before attacking his mother on the couch in their two-bedroom apartment.

Anthony "Tony" Baekeland - A child born into wealth and privilege that showed signs of mental illness from an early age. His mother tried to "cure" his homosexuality through the use of prostitutes and an incestuous relationship before he snapped and stabbed her in the heart.

Plus two more intriguing stories of a hostile-dependent mother and child relationship that resulted in murder. They say that the bond between a mother and her child is inviolable, but sometimes that bond is broken, and the result is murder.

Had this been longer

Had this been longer I would have given it four stars. I knew of two of the cases but found one of them so shocking I almost couldn't carry on. Extremely interesting and I will be looking for others by this author.

Hidden Evil true crime series…

This is volume 1 of a true crime series, that I think is named Hidden Evil. This first one is about matricide, and covers only 5 cases. One of them is a contemporary one, Gypsy Rose Blanchard. One is the infamous Ed Kemper. Of the remaining, I had heard about 2 of the 3.

There wasn’t a great deal of detail to these stories, so I didn’t actually learn anything new. Fairly well written but I found this to be an average read.

Good read

Liked that they are about true events and that they were told in a way that each story was being told by the person that committed the crimes.
