I have so many mixed feelings. I was so excited about Gage’s story! However, this wasn’t what I wanted for him.

I have to admit that the flashbacks of the relationship between Gage and Shiloh gave me the ick. Like seriously. They had their first sexual encounter when she was 17 and he was 22. However, the dude was down bad for her even when she was 16. He acted like he was so weak and couldn’t resist having her despite the age. Nah, ick for me. There was too much of a maturity gap for me. However, their meeting later in life was so much better. If we could have just had that, I wouldn’t have been side eying so much.

Gage was still funny and always ready for a battle.

“Gage, did you point a gun at Wilder? I asked in disbelief. Gage shook his head. “No, baby, I pressed it against his forehead. I didn’t point it,” he replied as if this were a normal conversation.

I got pieces of Gage that I wanted, but just like Huck, his character took a bit of a fall. Besides the ick he gave me earlier, I felt like he was way too harsh to Shiloh sometimes. The wishy washy way he was so rude to her and then would expect her to respond to his texts was prime audacity. He got into a relationship with a minor with no maturity level, it ended badly and he stewed over it for years. He acted like she framed him for a crime or something.

I don’t really have much to say about Shiloh. She didn’t really make a good or bad impression on me. She seemed very normal and an average FMC. I felt bad for her and this obsession she stirred in him.

Blaise will continue to be my favorite thing about this series. He’s always one step ahead and working behind the scenes. I feel bad sometimes because he has to take care of his family along with everyone and their women.

“I’m putting fucking trackers under their goddamn skin. All three of them,” Blaise muttered as he glared out of the window.

I feel like this review is long and all over the place. Basically, I wanted more from Gage’s story and some things I couldn’t overlook. The next story will be about Trev and his stepsister. Of course, I’m going to pick it up. This series is still addicting and I’m just along for the ride.

Just when you think a series can not get any better. The author says "But wait...there's more!"

This one is my favorite so far, and I can't get enough of the smoke series!

@abbiglines
@abbiglinesbooks you have really out done yourself with this book and this series. I could lose myself in this series over and over again!

Shiloh and Gage are seriously "Straight Fire"- I have a major book hangover from this one. The tension, and passion and spice in this one is on point!

thank you for allowing me to read them!!

Gage and Shiloh

This had plenty of steam. I really liked the premise of this one and of course Gage’s complete obsession over Shiloh. The one thing that kept me rating this higher was the end. The set up and test for Shiloh was infuriating. She had more than proved herself and this aspect was completely unnecessary. I wished the author had done more with her accident instead of nothing as of that aspect of the story were meaningless.

So incredibly disappointed. Gage’s personality saved Book 3. Unfortunately, that same character was nowhere to be found in Book 4. Reader’s who have made their way through the series will not be surprised at the amount of bad language. However, if by chance you’re reading this as an introduction to the series consider this a warning. There’s enough profanity to make your eyeballs bleed…658+ words. Yes, I counted out of curiosity…

Gage and Shiloh

This one kept me turning the pages. Shiloh returns to Gages life 5 years after their break up. She has amnesia. He’s angry. He had sex with OW several times after Shiloh becomes his nurse and I think they had kissed. But not very angsty because Shiloh didn’t seem to care.

Gage good lawd Gage!

The psychotic unhinged ones are the true loves of my life and Gage makes me want to be his sweet baby!

The angst with the push and pull of Gage and Shiloh gives us just enough without breaking us and the the spice hits and you’re like Gage can do no wrong!!!

In typical Smoke Series fashion by Abbi she hits us with a fkn doozy at the end!

Love how much we saw if Levi in this book, my desperation for crumbs of this man was satisfied!

I was so surprised to have liked this book as much as I did. I was worried with it being about Gage it would be a complete mess but it was good! I would give it a 3.5! Definitely preferred Gage’s story to Hucks.

I really loved the writing and storyline of this book. this book wasn’t really the same vibe as the other two. it was kinda more chill maybe. there was. a 5 year age gap between them but they met when she was 16 and he was 21. now they are 24 and 29.

3.5 stars. I really liked this story. Usually age gap is a no-go for me, but here it worked, because ultimately this was the problem this couple had, she was too young. So making it a second chance story years later, when both of them are on a more equal footing, maturely speaking, was the ticket.
Another usual no-go for me are mafia stories, but this also worked here for me, because 1: there's not much mafia drama told, and 2: it made sense that this would be an extreme world where this crazy dude lives, while girly was still living in teenage dream land.
Thus time skip and amnesia plot line. Yes.
I also liked that it took him a while to get better physically, he didn't just get up and walk it off (beating and stabbing) with the magical power of his macho tough guy-ness, like maaaaany other MLs in dark romance. Yes, give me an actual human being.
But the thing I liked best, was that he never hurt her, he was all in all the way, he was different with her, he walked the line between crazy f*cker and respect-her-boundaries in a way that didn't make him one of the dime a dozen abusers in dark romance stories when they got their second chance, yay for you ML, well done dear author!
Ps: I was waiting for her to have a seizure, I don't know why. The perfect moment would have been at the end when she gets info dumped, right after being rescued. Cos that "loyalty test" was bullshit if you ask me, and her having a seizure would have been, aside from a normal reaction to her ordeal, sweet sweet karma revenge to make them feel bad for her and never put her in that position ever again. Lmao. But yeah, extreme mafia world requires developing a thick skin. Just mention that in her inner monologue or something.

Narrated by: Allie Shae & Corvin King

Wow! Didn’t know what to expect from this book but I was blown away! I hadn’t read the prior books in this series and I don’t feel like I missed out on much. The story line is something I’ve been wanting to read for a while and it definitely delivered!

Gage was next level obsessed with Shiloh and I absolutely loved it! I was dying to know what happened between them in the past so the dual story lines were perfect. I just loved this story so much!

Also the fact that it was my first Corvin King audio…I have been missing out!! Holy crap he is amazing! That deep voice captured Gage’s character so well!!
Allie Shae was also new to me and she put on an excellent performance as Shiloh and capturing her sassy teenage self and her new more mature self in the present.

This audio was in duet narration and the narrators knocked it out of the park! Definitely listen to the audio if you can!

Thanks so much to Sparks Fly Studios for the audio copy!!

Narration 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧

I don’t know how to feel about this book. Like it wasn’t bad, but wasn’t really like the best book I’ve read or anything. I was confused on how I was supposed to feel about the couple pretty much the whole time. I felt like I was working backwards the entire time which, may have been the point since we were in the FMC’s pov most of the time and she had amnesia so she had no idea what was going on either.

Honestly I think for me the narration made this book what it was. I think Corvin and Allie did an absolutely stunning job. I think Allie is new to the narrating scene, or at least she’s new to me, but I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from her.

I love this series so damn much!!! This book was amazing! The perfect story, the perfect characters! Everything! I wish it was longer as I do with every Abbi Glines book. Gage is a hot, obsessive, demanding killer! In the best possible way. Shiloh is a sweet, kind, loyal loving nurse. They have a past, filled with crazy, lies, toxicity and hurt. Their future is just ahead of them! It’s okay to be toxic for your partner if it’s these two together! So so good! And so excited for the next book! Trev has officially “joined” the family!!!

Gage Presley took a crazy turn 5 years ago when the woman he was obsessed with left him. When she shows up back in his life it’s like a bomb went off in his brain. He hates her but can’t stop thinking about her.

I didn’t consider you. I should have. You’re not the same girl who left me. You don’t deserve the way I’ve treated you.”

Shiloh can’t remember anything from her previous life after a accident that left her with amnesia. She doesn’t understand why Gage hates her so much.

You should know I’d do anything to be with you.”

“I love you.” He cupped my face in his hands. “And I worship you.”

I think this was the best book so far in this series. I removed the F word from the quotes cause it’s in there a lot. Still don’t care for the public displays but at least it’s not the main characters so I’m good. This author is fast becoming one of my most anticipated reads.

I feel like a broken record, but I really wish these books were longer! I just need more. I love all these alpha males so much, and Gage was no exception. His crazy, unhinged, killer persona? Way too attractive in the most unstable way, but hey, a little fantasy never hurt anyone, right? LOL. I definitely will continue to binge the rest of this series.

For god knows what reason I’ve now read 4 books in this series. It’s like a train wreck but I can’t help myself.

The lead men are meant to be sexy alpha males but all I see are misogynistic red flag waving douche bags.

I think I’m done with these.

Glines' usual combinations abound: alpha-hole + virgin; dirty-talk + OTT hero possessiveness. Though these books have many repeats and less depth-- (smut, New Adult style), the mix of Southern Mafia families, with generations of power, hierarchy, and tradition (a world described semi-vaguely), and the mafia heroes who are ruthless but goners for their women, all offer a quick heady "take-me-away" read when I'm in the mood.

Gage sees jail-bate, but she is so fine, so fiery, and so tempting to him that he loses his mind.
Wild Things Movie Gifs
No matter that in his world, rules can be bent, and at times they don't matter, Gage's descent into obsession-taking + possessing Olivia, becoming her world-results in terrible results, due to Gage's stalkerific, manic, and excessive tactics. The aftermath has Gage's boss cutting off Gage from Olivia, leaving her to move away and go off to live a life outside the mafia, a life closer to normal for a young college-aged woman who has yet to live her life.

What bothered me is that the beginning of Gage and Shiloh's story, the stuff before the separation, is told through both characters' stream of conscious and through some flashbacks. It wasn't enough.

Another hang up I had was the lack of explanation as to how Shiloh is able to be so free and available at such a young age, beyond the "she's from a s rich family so moves in elite circles," etc. Her instant involvement with Gage should have had more involvement with her family life, since she is definitely not mafia. And--17, 2mos-to-18, I can take, 18and up is great, but from 16, and Gage being 21? Hmm...I just needed it to be more, have more angst described or built in order to get over it, instead of just accepting it as a lust filled, kinky sex, combustible attraction, and then to make Gage manic about her, while also being borderline psycho in his other dealings...to boot? Yeh...there just wasn't enough "story' for me to get invested.

Plus, when Shiloh and Gage have a second chance, it's after Shiloh gets

The whole series is fantastic!

Five years ago, Gage and Shiloh were having a toxic relation. Shiloh was an immature teenager who loved to twist Gage around, make him jealous and make him mad.

She then left, and he went from psycho to crazy and got sent to the Marines. He returns to Florida and joins Blaise Hughes and the family, and now he’s one of Blaise’s most but still bat shit crazy.

Gage ends up banged up from a fight in the Hughes complex and needs a nurse, and you guessed it Shiloh comes into his sick room to take care of his wounds.

But she had a car accident two years ago and has amnesia, so she doesn’t remember Gage or anything that happened between them. She then moved to Ocala to work with her uncle Neil, physician to the Southern Mafia lead by the Hughes family.

And this is when a lovely story of second chances and redemption starts reawakening the strong bond they used to have, minus the toxic element.

I won’t spoil the story but they go through the ringer and the characters and story-line is amazing!

Don’t waste your time

Train wreck doesn’t even begin to describe this story, and I use that term loosely.

With domestic violence such a huge issue in today’s society I find it hard to believe an author let alone someone with NYT under their name glorify it. You can say it’s not like that but it is.

As to mafia, these guys are so far removed from that genre it’s laughable

I used to love Abbi’s books but I’ve obviously matured because this book was horrendous.

It’s a don’t waste your time or money on this.

Nope. No. Him getting mental health treatment was mentioned once. This bright woman, a nurse, falls kinda insta-love for a deeply troubled man. He needs help, he will end up dead or in prison, if any of those people truly cared about Gage he would be in serious treatment. I’ve loved the series, disappointed with the author in this one.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

Narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (stunning!)

Gage is a soldier for Blaise Hughes, the boss of ‘The Family.’ He was injured on the job and required in home medical care for his recovery. The nurse that walked into his room to take care of him was none other than the woman who ripped out his heart and destroyed him five years ago. Shiloh was instantly attracted to the man her Uncle assigned her to care for. The only problem is, she didn’t understand why he hated her. She can’t remember anything before two years ago when she was in an accident that took her memories. How could she possibly help a man who despised her, and wasn’t subtle about it? How could Gage still feel attraction for her after she shredded his heart?

There is more to this story than meets the eye. Secrets, revelations, and loyalties are outed in this blazing hot book. Tension, both physical and emotional, reign in this story. I was not expecting it, but I devoured it! Shiloh and Gage had a super intense and rather toxic relationship. That carries over into the present, the obsession that Gage has is beyond any other MMC that I have ever read. Shiloh is timid, and unsure of things because of her memory loss. But she doesn’t just lie down and take it, she stands up for herself. She isn’t who she used to be, as everyone around her reminds her constantly.

Thanks to Sparksfly Studio I was able to ALC this duet narration audiobook with two narrators that I’ve never listened to before. Though I’ve heard of Corvin King, I may be the only one “living under a rock” who hadn’t listened to one of his narrations yet. And let me tell you, whew 🥵 the gravel in this man’s voice could rival that of a rock quarry! His voice over was as intense as Gage, (think Mark Wahlberg in ‘Fear’ intense, without that particular ending!). King was absolutely amazing and I WILL be seeking out more of his work.

Let me tell you…Allie Shae!? A f***ing STAR in this book. My gosh! I was blown away by her narration, like it was STUNNING. I can’t believe I’ve never heard her because she just became one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE FEMALE NARRATORS. EVER. Holy smokes the timidity, uncertainty, strength, loyalty, and the unsurpassed ‘extra’ that she brought to Shiloh, was unlike any other female narrator I’ve ever heard. I am now obsessed, (But not like in a Gage way 😅).

Gage is an unhinged psychotic k!ller with an obsession for Shiloh that borders on toxic. I’ve never read an MMC with that much intensity, but I think it was Corvin King who brought him to the next level with his stellar narration! Shiloh was a fantastic character who was more loyal, nearly to the point of self destruction, than any other FMC I’ve read. Allie Shae absolutely CRUSHED her narration. One of the best female narrations I’ve ever heard! Everyone, please listen to this stellar audiobook by Abbi Glines. I read her stories for the first time about 12 years ago and it was great being able to revisit her writing again. This story was intense and sěxy, with twists and revelations that keep you on your toes!

💀 ”Memories of her seemed to cling to my dämn soul. I f***ing despised her, but it didn’t mean she hadn’t owned a piece of me once that I never got back.”
💀 “It isn’t fair to claim that it was toxic when obsession is but a deeper realm of love.” –Abbi Glines
💀 “Hold on to the headboard, baby.”
💀 “My hand moved over to rest on Gage’s chest. If he was what filled that for me, former me had been living with the same vacant ache in her soul that I had been.”
💀 “Baby, you’re the only woman on earth who is equipped to f***ing handle me. You just don’t remember.”
💀 “Shiloh, if another man were to see you naked, see you c*me, touch you, I’d be put in prison. There would be no way to save my a$$ from the destruction I’d leave in my path. I don’t want to share you.”

I don’t fucking care that you lost your memory. Because I didn’t. And if there is one thing I wish I could do, it would be to wipe you from mine.”

I missed Abbi's books. I don't even know why it took me so long to read another one of hers. The second I saw the blurb to this book and saw that it's a second chance romance with an amnesia plot, I knew I would be diving into this one immediately. Yes, I tried to be good and read Smokeshow first. And then I immediately dove into this one. And I have zero regrets. ZERO.

This one reminded me a bit of Lora Leigh's style of toxic uber alpha males and I was so here for it. Gage is certifiable and I loved every toxic and crazy part of him. He's a manwhore with a short fuse and an itchy trigger finger. Anger management has nothing on this man. So being a soldier in The Family is definitely the right career path for him.

Five years ago, a woman ruined him and he's been f*cking his way through the entire female population since. Shiloh was underage when they met but it didn't take long for Gage to cave to the attraction burning between them. To say that these two were toxic together is an understatement. Teenage Shiloh knew all his triggers and wasn't shy in pressing them to get a reaction. So when five years later as he's laid up after an injury, the woman who ripped his heart out walks back into the house with no memory of him or her life before, he's not thrilled.

While I loved Gage, Shiloh I struggled with. She was such a pushover. It was like a total personality change happened between teenage her and adult he and I found it hard to believe and even harder to connect with. This woman finally grows a spine at the end, but it wasn't enough. I needed her to give as good as she gets with Gage, but she just took every piece of animosity he threw at her and came back for more. It was frustrating. Even so, this was still a solid 4 star read for me until the end. I needed more from that ending. I needed Shiloh to get her memory back or something. And then that whole test just seemed so unnecessary on the tail end of the entire revolution of what happened those years ago. I don't know, it just fizzled my enjoyment.

Did I still devour this book in a sitting? Absolutely. Am I fully addicted to this series, without a doubt. While I didn't dislike this book, I also didn't love it either. Now to do things in my back passwords way, I'm off to read Huck's book next.

*Audiobook Review*

This is the first Abbi Glines book I’ve read, and I’m definitely going to be reading the previous books in the series. It was so good. This is book 4 and while it can be read as a standalone, I think I’d have had a better appreciation of the world if I’d started from the beginning. This is a second chance, southern mafia romance, told in dual POV.

Shiloh and Gage have a past that Shiloh can’t remember because she had an accident 2 years ago and has retrograde amnesia. Since she recovered from the accident she’s been working as a nurse for her uncle who runs a private practice in Florida. She’s sent to care for the injured Gage at his home and it’s immediately clear Gage hates Shiloh, but she doesn’t know why. And she is instantly drawn to him.

I went into this with zero expectations. I’d just finished another Corvin King audiobook that I’d enjoyed when I saw this and I just had to listen to it. And I had a great time listening to it. The story is told in a dual timeline with one timeline in the present day and one starting 8 years ago and moving closer to the present, uncovering the mystery of Shiloh and Gage’s past relationship. This story was filled with so much angst. I loved it! Gage is the kind of unhinged MMC I didn’t know I needed in my life. I love reading that chaotic kind of love where she’s the only one who can tame his brand of crazy and he would do anything to keep her safe.

I liked the side characters in this story and definitely want to read more about them in their own books. I especially liked Levi. I think that he’s the comedian of the group. This book was on the lighter side of mafia and more about the romance. There was some mafia action that took place but it was in the later part of the book.

This was narrated in duet style by Corvin King and Alli Shae and they were phenomenal! Alli Shae is completely new to me, but I’ve listened to one other book by Corvin King. Both narrators put in an amazing performance. They embodied the main characters perfectly. Corvin King, with his deep, gravelly voice, plays the unhinged, protective Gage perfectly and Alli Shae is the perfect insecure, but determined Shiloh. They really brought out the emotions of the characters. Their non-verbal vocalizations were spot on. There was a point where Shiloh was crying while speaking and I was thinking, “this narrator is a fantastic actress.” I could picture Shiloh in tears. And the spicy scenes had me clutching my pearls. They had me wondering if I should leave the room and give them some privacy. The narration added another layer of depth to the story, and I highly recommend listening to this on audio.

This is a great book if you like mafia romance, flawed characters, possessive alpha males who will do anything to protect their woman and found family who is loyal to each other.

*This book isn’t for everyone though, so if you’re not comfortable with these things, you might want to skip it.
• The relationship started when Shiloh was 17 and Gage was 22.
• The MMC is very possessive alpha male who will disregard what the FMC wants if he thinks it’ll endanger her, so you need to leave feminism outside when you read this.
• There are some spicy scenes involving strippers and girls who are ‘not very choosy’, where they’re treated like objects.

** I received a review copy from Sparksfly Studios and this is my honest review.

Five years ago, Gage and Shiloh were having a toxic relation. Shiloh was an immature teenager who loved to twist Gage around, make him jealous and see him blow up. Then, fantastic make-up sex. It was exhilarating until it imploded on them. She left, he went from psycho to crazy and got sent to the Marines to cool off. Back in Florida, he joined Blaise Hughes and the family, and now he’s one of Blaise’s most trusted soldiers. Still crazy, and still hating the memory of Shiloh and the destruction she wrought over him.

Now, Gage is all banged up from a fight, needs a nurse, and who else but Shiloh comes into his sick room to take care of his wounds. I swear I felt the earth shaking!

Shiloh had a car accident two years ago and has amnesia, so she doesn’t remember Gage or anything that happened between them. What she did know, is that she didn’t like the life she was living in Boston with her parents and fiancee, so she broke all those strings that were keeping her prisoner and moved to Ocala to work with her uncle Neil, physician to the Southern Mafia lead by the Hughes family.

And this is when a lovely story of second chances and redemption starts to weave a riveting web of old memories for Gage, new memories for Shiloh and the reawakening of the strong bond they used to have, without the toxic element.

Shiloh was lovely, with beautiful thoughts and feelings. Her connection to Gage was immediate, upon seeing him, and she didn’t understand it but the reader could. It was her body and soul reacting to her soulmate. Since she was now mature, she was better equipped to deal with Gage’s crazy and although initially confused, she caught on quickly. Only she could defuse him when he was like a cocked pistol!

I loved all the crazy stuff with Gage! Only he could go from sane to unhinged on the twist of a dime, like there’s a beast inside him that wakes up and takes over when one of his triggers is activated. And Shiloh is his most sensitive trigger. He was at times boyish in his attachment to Shiloh, seriously addicted and obsessed, and tender when he’s not running super hot and sexy. Even though he continues to be crazy, this time it’s with a protective purpose, no one touches Shiloh and lives!

I loved Shiloh and Gage, loved how their love grows and matures, and how Shiloh grows to understand and balance Gage. He’s still explosive but she’s got the control now and he listens to her. This story could not happen without Gage’s besties Huck and Levi, who help defuse the bomb that is Gage, and Huck’s fiancee Trinity, who feeds the crowd and is so nice to Shiloh. We get short glimpses of Blaise and Maddy also. And one little peek of little Hughes, Trev. Truly a riveting read and a great continuation of this series. And this little glimpse of Trev makes me anxious for his story! And Levi’s! And Saxon’s!

Straight Fire
Smoke Series, Book 4
By: Abbi Glines
Narrated by: Corvin King, Allie Shae

Abbi Glines blows me away with another awesome novel set in her amazing “Smoke” series and once I started it, I could not stop because I needed to know what happened next. This fourth book is Gage Presley and Shiloh Ellis’s story and wow, what a story it is, a dark romance full of drama, angst, twists and turns, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Shiloh’s father is the on-call doctor for the Hughes family and she is a nurse working in his office and her first out of office job is to help Gage while he is recovering from his injuries. The reception she received at the Hughes house was not a welcoming one, she and Gage have a history, one he remembers, one she doesn’t, and it is not a good history, so when she reappears in his life he is not happy about it, but she doesn’t know why. Calling Gage a hot-head would be an understatement, a man that is over the top with anger, rage and possessiveness, but he there is so much more to him, including loyalty and caring. Shiloh is just trying to build a new life, but she feels a deep attraction to Gage despite how he treated her. It was great to watch these to dance around each other, then get reacquainted, because it was clear Gage still had unresolved feelings for her too. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out in this book and, as always, the writing, plot, and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. It was also great to see the characters from the earlier books, and watching the dynamics between them all. Abbi Glines, thank you for another amazing story and wild and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Corvin King and Allie Shae were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. King nailed it as Gage, showcasing his personality to a tee, from his angst and alpha-tude to his possessiveness and caring side. Shae was just as amazing as Shiloh, grasping all sides of her personality, from her insecurities to strength and determination. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling each one. These two made a great narration team, their voices complemented each other and their performance elevated the already amazing story to another level. Thanks for another amazing listen.
