He's not going to take this treatment lying down. At least, not for long...
Fifteenth-century Scotland is a tough place to be a woman in charge. Brianna MacLeod, new laird of her clan, needs a child to establish her position. And the best way to do that is to demand the sexual services of her sworn - and very sexy - enemy!
Ewan Fraser never foresaw being kidnapped, tied up and expected to perform stud service. Yet being bound for the delicious Brianna's pleasure isn't all bad. In fact, the more time he spends in her bed, the more he's determined she'll be the one who ends up enslaved...
Even though I was excited to read this book, I had a bit of a hard time getting into it, for two reasons. Both are more my personal preference than anything wrong with the book. One, I'm not much for 15-century Scotland stories - when I read historical, I prefer Regency or Frontier Westerns. Two, the fact that for the first part of the book, the hero was chained to the bed by the heroine was a bit of a turn-off for me.
Aside from that there were some other issues I had, mostly to do with period accuracy. There was some language and wording in the book that just didn't seem to fit, but since I'm not familiar with language during that century, I can't say for sure. Also, I had some problems with Brianna's actions sexually. For a woman who had little experience due to a husband who didn't desire her, she sure was willing to do anything without even a peep of "what are you doing?" And the fact that she drops down to perform oral sex when in all likelihood she shouldn't have even known what it was seemed odd. That didn't really fit for me.
I didn't mind the book, but I didn't love it either. I liked that there was a point to the story aside from the sex (the traitor). But for me, the book just didn't have that sparkle to make it stand-out.
I should have known what I was getting into. I mean, she kidnaps him, ties him to a bed and expects him to act as stud so she can have his baby. That much is already written on the blurb. As children (teens really) the both of them made a vow to marry one another...ten years later, she married someone else and is now a widow. When the hero's brother is accused of murdering the heroine's husband, she takes it upon herself to kidnap the hero and end the feud by having his baby.
Here's one of my major issues. The heroine rapes the hero - sure he enjoys it quite a bit, but he's unwilling, he feels shame afterwards and it isn't very romantic. It takes a cold hearted bitch to continue when the victim says, "If you continue this will be rape," and to do this with someone she had feelings for. And then she has the gall to be hurt when he lashes out with insults. And how exactly is forcing this guy and having his kid going to end the feud? If anything I would think it would make things worse. But no, the hero is "in love" with her. Even though she raped him. Even though she broke her vow to him. Even though all she wants is a baby. I hated her. In fact, I wanted her to discover that she was infertile and would have to settle for the hero and not his offspring. As with any story where a character is in the wrong, I want to see some serious grovel. And I didn't get it. It was complete role reversal - the hero is in love with the heroine despite how cruelly she treats him and she never apologizes. She even makes light of it at the end of the book. This has marked the addition of an asshole-heroine shelf. And she was really a blind fool of a laird as well.

I'm not normally a Harlequin girl...I'm not normally even a romance girl...but I had heard about the Harlequin Blaze and was curious to see what kind of erotica Harlequin was publishing. I can't say I didn't enjoy reading this, although there were a few times I rolled my eyes or chuckled. It described every sexual detail, but I didn't find it particularly erotic. But hey, sometimes you're in the mood for a book that doesn't require you to think, where conflicts are resolved quickly and easily, and everyone lives happily ever after.
I was really very surprised by what a page turner this little red book was! I thoughly enjoyed the read. I'll definitely be looking for more books by this author.
A chance meeting at fair day led to a promise between the children of two rival clans. A promise to wed when they were old enough and to take no other as their husband/wife. But in the case of Brianna MacLeod she's given no choice by her father but to wed her cousin as she's the Laird to be for her clan.
When her husband is killed, seemingly by Ewan Fraser's brother, and she loses not only her father from an illness, but the baby within her, she plans on revenge. A revenge that will give her a child and perhaps bring an end to the battles between the clans.
What she didn't count on was how sexy her childhood promised husband would be.
As for Ewan... Brianna is everything he's dreamed of in a woman. But he isn't going to let his heart melt. She broke her promise to him. Not just that but didn't even have the courage to respond to his letters. She might take his seed, as his body isn't opposed to the idea, but not his heart.
A sensual highland romance and the narrator managed to bring life to the romance and connection between the two.
Had to try out a Harlequin. :) Some really great sex scenes described in here. I liked the book for what it was, a shallowly written piece of work with the purpose of getting your "motor runnin".
3.5 Stars - This was a fast read that kept me wanting to know how it was going to end. I would have liked a little more development between the H/H. Will read more from this author.
It didn’t really translate, however, into why she pushed him away after they reunited. And because their first meeting still meant a lot to both of them, it left me wondering what was wrong with her. And it made the revelation when she realized she cares for him just… not really make sense.
Now, there’s a lot in this book that would bother a lot of people since the entire plot is her capturing this guy to make a baby, but if that bothers you, obviously don’t bother reading it.
I was able to detach myself from reality to enjoy the story, there’s just a lot to overlook. But if the plot piques your interest, it’s probably worth giving it a try.

I needed a break from paranormal end of the world survive and fight world...and found historical romance instead. I loved this book, such a simple innocent idea of love conquering all... Although, yes there is suggestion of rape, although given the historical time it's written in I am not putting this as negative. It doesn't glorify it, it condems it in it's all way. The book actually pushes to show it's about trust and getting to know each other. To me I took, yes there can be a spark, but it takes hard work to make it into a fire that will last. 3.8 stars
Fun story with high heat and the HEA. There are some bad people and the initial sex scene is essentially rape although both MCs actually wanted it to happen. The reason it can be called rape is that he was verbally saying no and I thought that it could have been handled a bit better.
In historical context, the Lord of the Castle essentially could have who he wanted which I, for one, am happy that we can choose who we want and say no to those who we do not want!
(scribd) This one is so different! I love the silly beginning. Totally unrealistic but a female Laird with a witch and harlot for her servants who kidnaps her enemy's brother, her love from her teenage years in order to have a baby.
The story was engaging, but the metaphors could use some work. The same phrases over and over get a bit tedious. Overall, it was a short enough read that it was still enjoyable.
I did not appreciate the kidnapping and rape at the beginning of their reunion, or even that Ewan had lusted(?) after Brianna since they first met (he was 12 and she was 14?). Maybe that’s my “modern sensibilities” kicking in, but I was a bit skeeved by the 12-year-old Ewan already slipping Brianna the tongue during their first kiss. 😳
But the “current” happenings - to solve they mystery of Donald’s death & find a traitor to the clan - kept me turning pages. Whodunnit?! And we find out at the end.
I had first suspected that Alys would be in cahoots with whoever turned out to be the villain (maybe ‘cause her baby was threatened), so I am glad that - SPOILER - she was quite innocent & also managed to find her own HEA.
A fair-day promise between 14 year-old Brianna and 12 year-old Ewan stands between them when as adults, their families feud. In 15th-century Scotland, a female laird is unheard of, but Brianna's father has left her in charge of her clan, and now she is widowed and childless. She decides the best course of action is to kidnap her enemy, Ewan Fraser, and force him to have a child with her. Then she will be revenged on his twin, the laird of the Fraser clan, and have an heir that can heal the feud between the two clans. And the fact that she still yearns for him means nothing, right? This unlikely setup leads to a suspenseful romance as the threads that lead to the true villain are revealed.
A short historical Highlands romance that features the female laird (!) of one clan kidnapping the younger brother of the neighbor's laird for some procreation, albeit with the purpose of easing tensions between the two clans. Although the plot was comical, the story turned out sweeter than I expected.
Possibly because I've been reading a lot of history lately, some of this seemed anachronistic to me. And I got impatient with the characters' stubbornness, particularly the heroine's. Still, it was a fast, fun read.
