Welcome to Y.L. Parker’s world, in this tale of a vampire psychiatrist who falls for a 600 year old virgin teenager witch who can’t remember her past, let alone why she keeps waking up chained to the wall in a vampire’s dungeon. Bummer.
“Hillary Hermes: Vampire vs. Witches” is reminiscent of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” You recall that story? In V vs. W star crossed lovers (vampires and witches are always mortal enemies) hang together because he’s so handsome, and although a creature of the night, he’s been cursed (by a witch) to instantly die if he so much as tastes the blood of a human. Well, it’s the little things that hold a relationship together, right? And she, Hillary Hermes, a several centuries old alchemist, inhabits the rather cute and attractive teen body of Hillary Somers, the witch.
So, in this blazingly fast paced, swift and slashing modern love story, the lives of the cast of characters are portrayed. We got witches on jet skis instead of brooms, vampires driving sports cars, while texting on their iPhones, with the beauty of the San Juan Islands of Washington state as a backdrop for this impending war between species.
But it’s really the bad vampires along with a really evil sorcerer who’s out to get Hillary vs. the good vampires plus some magicians who are trying to protect her.
