The concept of the story was okay, but there were only four chapters (one volume) before the story ended and I feel that a lot more could have been done with the story.
Basically, due to his blood line, Handa Shin has power over words. Literal powers mind you, and due to a casual slip of the tongue while he ate (the food did not belong to him he was homeless) he ended up interrupting the long awaited marriage of two fox spirits. Causing Genrei (the male fox spirit in the story) and Handa Shin to be married. They set off on a journey to hone Handa Shin's power over words so that he can break the marriage so that Genrei could marry the one he was supposed to. In the end, Handa ends up working for Genrei and his wife.
Through some of the chapters it is shown that Handa starts to really care about Genrei and that Genrei isn't as mean as he was initially shown. And even though the series is labeled as a Shounen Ai, it doesn't really read as that. I feel that a lot more could have been done with the series and the ending was incredibly unsatisfying.
That and Genrei's wife was a totally worthless character and impeccably rude. So her marrying Genrei was a real disappointment when it's shown that there could have been feelings between the two main male characters. Feelings that could have been real while the wife's character obviously entered the marriage for money and not for love.
I gave it a 3 out of 5 because I liked the potential and I liked the art. But this series really left a lot to be desired.
P.S. It says that it is ongoing online, but the last page does say "End" and when I briefly looked it up it seemed to be completed. So I'm counting it as complete.

Apart from the sort of odd and open ending, I wouldn't call this boy love or anything, the story was ok. Nothing earth shattering, but nothing bad either. You got a few good laughs, some twists and good dialogue and I am sure the author knew that this was supposed to be goofy and therefore it never takes itself too seriously. However for the entire plot you also have to keep track on the artwork and that might confuse some viewers. However I found this combination a nice change from previous mangas I read.
The story is not the most original, but its, as far as I know, not a rip-off either, it just follows a known formula and the powers of Shin do not come along as Gary Stu like, albeit somewhat a tad close.
The strength of this manga is the artwork. The artwork is very good and even at its worst easy on the eyes and never confusing, the characters were always identifiable and their looks memorable; I would say if you like to draw yourself this is a good book to keep and use as a reference. The shading was competently applied and the backgrounds good. It might be possible that a few scenes had some double meaning, e.g. when Ginrei shows Shin their marriage rings it might be that the gesture of Ginrei is not simply showing the ring but also flipping Shin off, but I am not sure.
There are only two other things apart from the ending that did not sit well with me:
1) They translated kitsune with fox-spirit and fox-fairy, as well as using "spirit-cat" for that cat-yokai (maybe she is a nekomata or a bakeneko, I am not sure).
2) Shin is a descendent of Abe no Seimei and I know he is popular, but are there no other popular Japanese onmyoji?

This is no shonen ai manga, it is a sweet little story about believing in yourself.

Aufmachung
Ja, Rihito Takarei hat grundsätzlich einen schönen Zeichenstil. Hier steckt viel Liebe in der Gestaltung der Götter. Die Charaktere in Menschengestalt sind eher einfach, wenn auch sauber gezeichnet. Das was mich aber am meisten stört, ist, dass man äußerlich die Charaktere zwischen den Manga austauschen könnte. So wird jeder ihrer schwarzhaarigen Protagonisten meinerseits immer mit Kurose aus Ten Count in Verbindung gebracht.
Charaktere
Shin ist obdachlos und ein wahrer Tollpatsch. Doch irgendwie beherrscht er die Magie der Worte, welche erfüllen, was er aus dem Herzen heraus sagt.
Ginrei ist ein Fuchsgott der sein Rudel hervorragend im Griff hat und auch in der Menschenwelt erfolgreich ist.
Fazit
Bride of the Fox Spirit ist bei mir eingezogen, weil er als Boys Love gekennzeichnet war. Allerdings bekommt man eher eine seichte Fantasy-Geschichte. Hätte man dieser mehr Raum gegeben, hätte ich sie wahrscheinlich sogar gemocht. So bleibt sie meiner Meinung nach zu dynamisch und nur oberflächlich erzählt. Wodurch leider keine Emotionen bei mir ankamen. Wobei ich Shin schon als sehr interessanten Charakter einstufen möchte. Allerdings ist er, genauso wie Ginrei (Fuchsgott) charakterlich sehr blass geblieben.
Alles in allem, hat es mich nicht überzeugt und zieht wieder aus.

Was habe ich hier gelesen?
Das ist kein Yaoi-Manga. Ich freue mich darüber aber... ich kann diese Geschichte nicht zuordnen.
Shin ist obdachlos und verhungert. Er geht in einen Tempel und isst die Opfergaben, die dort liegen. Er sagt was und er wird zur Braut der Fuchs. Aber die Fuchs möchte eine andere Frau heiraten. Die beiden Männer sind nur verheiratet.
Shin kann sich befreien und er wird als Assistent angestellt. Und dann?
Ich habe die Geschichte nicht verstanden. Am Anfang konnte was zwischen den Charakteren passieren, aber der Fuchs-Mann heiratet die Fuchs-Frau. Und die Männer sind nun Angestellt und Boss. Meiner Meinung nach war die Geschichte sehr chaotisch.
Die Zeichnungen sind OK, aber sie können diesen Band nicht retten.

Ginrei et Menô sont sur le point de se marier. Mais ce n’est pas un mariage spécial, car ils sont tous les deux des dieux renard. Alors que Menô est sur le point de prononcer la phrase qui la liera à tout jamais à Genrei, un humain prend part au mariage sans le savoir, et se retrouve marié au dieu renard bénéfique à la place de la maléfique Menô… Comment Shin, l’humain en question, va-t-il se sortir de cette situation ?
Malgré sa publication chez Taïfu Comics (on oublie bien assez vite qu’ils ne publient pas que du yaoï héhé) et le nom de Rihito Takarai sur la couverture, ce petit one shot est un shôjo ! Mais les fans de la mangaka y trouveront certainement leur compte avec ses dessins toujours aussi bien travaillés, pour le reste à eux de faire marcher leur imagination ;)
Bref, venons à la fameuse mariée du renard, Shin. Jeune homme sans domicile fixe, affamé et seul, il n’imaginait pas un seul instant finir marié à une divinité. Et leur relation prête à sourire, ils n’étaient pas prêts pour ça et cela se ressent à chaque case. Mais il y a des moments beaucoup plus doux qui plaisent à la fujoshi qui sommeille en moi (et il n’en faut pas beaucoup pour la réveiller ! ^^)
The bride of the fox spirit est une histoire légère, placée sous le signe de l’humour, mais qui se déroule un peu trop rapidement à mon goût. Je n’aurais pas été contre une petite duologie, personnellement ! En tout cas, pour les lecteurs qui aiment tout ce qui touche aux yokais et autres légendes japonaises, ce manga pourra leur plaire. Le côté fantastique de celui-ci se mêle habilement au monde de Shin – le notre – et cela jusqu’aux tenues de Ginrei que l’on verrait plus sur des rockeurs japonais que sur une divinité !
En bref, The bride of the fox spirit est un one shot léger que l’on apprécie pour ses graphismes soignés et son histoire absolument pas prise de tête. En clair, une lecture parfaite pour se détendre !

Pff!! Décevant. Le personnage de la femme renarde était inutile. Ce n'est pas un BL, c'est de l'arnaque. L'éditeur le savait et pourtant le sort en tant que tel pff. Le début de l'histoire était comment dire prometteur mais le développement et la fin naze. Franchement merdique. Toutefois la qualité du dessin est parfaite mais j'achète pas un manga que pour le dessin. Ce qui m'ennuie c'est sa sortie dans la section BL(yaoi) alors que ça n'en est pas un BL.Pfff, tu as dit vache à lait, un peu de respect pour les fans.
