Forced by miserable circumstance to work in a gold rush brothel, Cora Underhill hates what her life has become. When a fire sweeps through her workplace, she welcomes death as an end to it all. But then Jake Diggory crashes through her window for an unwelcome rescue, offering her shelter and a paid position at his establishment. She accepts, in spite of Jake's fearsome reputation as 'The Devil Diggory', and soon sees another side to Jake--the firm but caring side of him which led his girls to name him 'Daddy Diggs'.
Life at Daddy Diggs' is an entirely new experience for Cora. Jake has strict rules which he backs up with over the knee discipline, but he will not tolerate any mistreatment of his girls and he can go from playing beautiful music on a piano to defending them with his bare fists. The strangest thing of all, however, is the fact that every girl at Daddy Diggs' swears that Jake has never slept with her, or with any other woman for that matter, since his fiancée's death back in Ireland fifteen years ago.
Cora attempts to emulate the other prostitutes at Daddy Diggs', who enjoy making money, holding power over men and even the act of sex, but she still finds no pleasure in the company of men--until the day she inadvertently arouses the passion of The Devil Diggory. His fierce lovemaking thaws some frozen part of her, but it seems Jake is only attracted to her because she resembles his dead fiancée. Confused by his new feelings for Cora and guilt over his broken vow of celibacy, Jake pushes Cora away. Can he come to terms with his past and claim Cora for his own, or will his grief keep them apart forever?

I was given this book to review for Storm Goddesses by Manic Readers..I enjoyed this short story, and if there is a genre called Erotic Western; then that is what I would put this under! Lots of spankings both of the consensual and non consensual variety! Although there was some kinky sex involved, there also was a great story written as well. My full review will be at Storm Goddesses Reviews in the near future..
Prostitutes, gold miners and spanking combine into a jolly good time. In THE DEVIL OF WHISKEY ROW, spanking is an equal opportunity event for both sexes. For some, it elicits erotic arousal. For some, it is pure punishment. For Cora, could it be both?
Cora Underhill went from pampered princess to abused whore when her parents were murdered. The past five years working as a two-bit filthy harlot in a sleazy whorehouse nearly broke her. When a mysterious fire changes her circumstances, is it for the better or worse?
Jake Diggory is the heavy handed brute with the soul of a musician. He's also the owner of the high class brothel, Daddy Diggs'. His treatment of Cora is confusing. Instead of irrational abuse and indentured servitude, she's given a choice to behave according to his rules and earn a wage.
This is where Ms. Rose makes it interesting. Jake is a spankophile. He is also a gentleman in that he expects his "girls" to behave ladylike. Cussing is a no-no and any one breaking his rules is in for a spanking. His favorite position for spanking a misbehaving girl is over the knee (OTK). While it's not meant to be erotic, it becomes sexual with Cora.
The spanking and cropping in this story is delightful and fun. While there are a couple of harshly doled out punishment, even those are as arousing as the gentle spanking reminders.
The story is not too complicated and there are a couple of open-ended questions left unexplored. Still the main plot is easy to follow and ambles along at a sexy gait.
The conflict is realistic and brings both Jake and Cora into a different light. The readers are pulled into the story a bit more and feel more sympathetic towards these two lost souls. The ending does rush in a gallop to the finish. It does reward the reader with a sweet romantic ending.
This western spanking story is recommended to kinky readers who love a happily ever after.
3.5 stars. Maybe 4. Let's see if it sticks with me.
Likeable story. Those who like faithful men will love this one...as long as you don't mind that he owns a whorehouse...and the heroine is a prostitute in a California goldrush town...and that this is spankfic.
One of the things I love about this author is that her characters aren't perfect and do things that you'd never see in more traditional historical romances...like being a saloon whore. I think this is my second story of her's that the heroine is a prostitute. Fun times.
This one didn't top my favorite from the author, which was The Knight's Prisoner (the other prostitute story, as a matter of fact), but it was still butt-smacking good. ;D

I loved this latest book by Renee Rose as much as the others I've read. It's a western and although I'm not normally drawn to westerns, this was terrific.
I'd been reading teaser blurbs for a few weeks prior to the release and the book did not disappoint. It started off hot with Cora and Jake's first meeting where the author wasn't afraid to jump into it and didn't hold back with a punishment that immediately asserted Jake's power over Cora. As the relationship developed, there was a scene of such complete tenderness between the two - just a tiny little detail that really spoke to the heart and added layers of dimension to Jake. Cora was sweet - although she'd been toughened by circumstances. It was still easy for me to like her and to want it to work out between her and Jake. Spanking scenes were aplenty (thank you:), sex was terrific and at the end (I will try not to spoil it for you :) there was a treat!!!
I love the consistency in Renee Rose's books - she's just not afraid to push limits.
Renee is one of my favorite authors. This book is my absolute favorite yet. The writing is as exquisite as ever. The words just transport you into the story. The hero, Jake (who doesn't just swoon at the name Jake,) brings chivalry to the wild west in his hot, masculine, and spankocentric way. (Swoon...fanning myself!) Cora starts out a victim; the true picture of vulnerability yet her inner strength builds with each page. Her character development is flawless. This book is filled (to the brim) with scorching HOT spanking (and so much more!) You will have to read it to find out what I'm talking about, but ICARAMBA it's good stuff!
I loved this story! It was such a fast paced, fun read, that I couldn't put it down! I love romance stories, especially when a strong woman gets taken over an even stronger man's lap. And this happened a lot! The spankings were done with just the right amount of dominance, plenty to curb a young woman's behavioral issues, but not so much as to break her spirit.
The redemptive qualities of both of the main characters also really drew me in. Daddy Diggs (Jake)- the owner of a brothel in an old western town- has the guilt and shame of a past filled with loss. Cora is a young woman who was forced into prostitution when her parents died.
They are both able to overcome their pasts and find love in each other.
This book has so much to offer a reader- a lot of fun characters (a character who wants to run her own spanking brothel!), some light hearted moments (who wouldn't love to see a Can-can dance in full ruffled bloomers), great action, romance (very steamy romance, including a very orgasmic spanking), and lots of spectacular spankings to satisfy even a hard core spanko. Mmmm, it was delightful!
A must read for anyone who likes spankings and romance.
I normally don’t read Western based novels and I haven’t read a story where the hero is the owner of a whorehouse and the heroine is a prostitute. Therefore, when I read the burp about The Devil of Whiskey Row by Renee Rose, I was intrigued to say the least. I knew that it was a spanking romance; my thoughts kept going back to the fact that the story takes place in a whorehouse, what is romantic about that? Of course, I had to read it and I’m so glad I did.
*Clapping Hands* Bravo Renee Rose, you did it!!! Devil of Whiskey Row not only satisfied the romantic in me, it also satisfied the naughty side as well.
You can’t help but fall in love with Cora, who a few years ago was forced to go to work in one of the seedy whorehouses in a Gold mining town, to pay off her deceased fathers debt. She has spent the last few years not only selling her body, but has suffered from abuse by the hands of her Pimp. Even under the worst of circumstances, while on the outside she was hard and jaded, Cora remains sweetly innocent. She has learned to adapt and make the best of her situation.
When a fire breaks out in the building, where Cora lives and works, Jake rescues her. Jake is the super-hot and sexy owner of Daddy Diggs, the classiest Whorehouse in town. Jake has a frightening reputation in town and Cora is terrified of him.
She soon learns that while Jake doesn’t have an issue with turning one of his girls over his knee for a good solid spanking, he also cares for and protects his girls with his life. They are a family. He offers Cora a “job” and for the first time since she was force into her horrific situation, security and safety.
Jake stirs a side of Cora that she thought had died years ago and while she is battling these new found feelings, Jake has his own demons to wrestle.
Watching both of them struggling with their emotions added a layer of depth to the story, that didn’t have the cheap feel that I pre-judge this story to have because after all it does take place in a whorehouse.
Watching the relationship developed between these two characters, ranged from being so tender and sweet, to being very HOT. I couldn’t help but cheer for these two wonderful people the whole time hoping they get their HEA.
This was a fast paced and very easy to read book. While I’m still not into Western novels, I can totally see myself reading it again in the future.
I absolutely loved this book. I'll admit I had some reservations going into it because of the whole prostitution thing. I kept thinking "how am I possibly going to like this if the heroine sleeps with other men for money, while the hero is standing by?" For me, it went back to the rule for romance books that the hero and heroine aren't supposed to sleep with anyone but each other in the book. But Renee Rose made it work, quite wonderfully, actually. Cora and Daddy Diggs are very likeable characters, and the pain that they both have suffered in the past lead them on a journey to one another that is sexy and sweet. The Devil of Whiskey Row is definitely one of my favorite spanking romances of all time. Fans of erotic romances, spanking stories, and historical/western romances won’t want to miss this book!
A great western spanking novel. Set in a brothel with a woman who has been thrown into the lifestyle through no fault of her own and a man who has come to America for a new start (though he is mired in guilt). Enjoyable dialogue makes this one not like so many others. It is not cheesy and there is no flowery language and, at the same time, the language seems appropriate to the time and setting. I thought the environment itself was described well and it was very easy for me to see Daddy Diggory's in my mind. One of my favorite spanking authors!
This is the first book I've read by Renee Rose. Cora, forced by circumstances, becomes a whore. She has become tough and jaded over the years, but when the devil of Whiskey Row rescues her from a burning building and gives her a job at his establishment she begins to soften. He is an alpha with a tender side, which I love. I'm not fond of spanking scenes, but the author did them well.
I loved the progression of this book. It was faced paced and easy to read. I'm a fan of westerns and this one was unique and did not disappoint.
Jake runs one of the two brothels in a California Goldrush town. Cora works at the other one - and not by choice. Are these two ever going to have a chance?
Of course. Otherwise we wouldn't have a story, silly.
Nothing especially ground breaking in this one, but a nice love story with lots of fun spanking scenes.
Renee Rose has done it again, capturing the imagination of the reader and running with it. I truly enjoyed this tale. It was different, yet had the spanking tropes a spanking aficionado loves and expects. I highly recommend The Devil of Whiskey Row.
Loved Daddy Diggs and Cora's story. Renee Rose has become one of my favorite go-to authors. I can always count on her for yummy spankings and hot lovin'.
I actually listened to the Audible version of this book, but it was not included as a choice here.
Jake owns a brothel in a small California town back during the gold rush. When a fire is reported at the only other brothel in town, Jake and the other townsmen rush to contain it so it will not burn down everything in town. Jake sees a woman at a window on an upper floor and ends up having to grab a ladder and go and rescue her. He has always had a thing for Cora because she reminded him of a lost love. When her parents were murdered she ended up having to work off her father's debt at the brothel, and Jake has always thought it a shame that this beautiful, well-brought-up woman ended up in such dire straits.
He offers her whatever job she would like at his establishment. She takes the most obvious one due to wanting to make enough money to finally leave town. She agrees to follow Jake's rules but immediately breaks one by cursing which results in the first of many spankings. Jake does not sleep with his "girls," punishing them is all he has for sexual enjoyment. But he just might have to make an exception in Cora's case, whether he means to or not.
This book is a short erotic read (or listen). I was given a copy of the audiobook by the author and my review is voluntary.
Was in a reading slump, so I picked a random book that was different from what I would normally read, and bought howdy did this one deliver. Interesting plot and characters, and I was even surprised at how the climax played out. Fast paced and fun, would recommend!
Cora's feistiness gets her tossed over Jake's knees more than once. A man can only take so much before he snaps. Especially since he's been pining for his dead lover for years. A lover who looked so much like Cora.
Good enough story though not particularly engaging or original. The characters were interesting and I like Jakes character and wish we could have had more of his back story.
I don't think I have the words to say how much I adored Daddy Diggs. When I first started reading romances, I cut my teeth on westerns. So when I saw Renee Rose had a new book out, I thought, 'Oh hey. Western. All right!' I bought it, saved it in my queue for a truly crummy day when nothing else was going right and I'd want a pick-me-up. When I finally pulled this book out, I was not disappointed. The Devil of Whiskey Row was wonderful.
When a rival brothel goes up in flames, Jake doesn't hesitate. He runs to join the fire brigade and when he realizes someone's still in the blazing inferno, grabs a blanket and dashes inside. The best thing to happen to either of them, was rescuing Cora from the burning building. He even goes one step further, giving Cora a job at Daddy Diggs's gambling hall, brothel and saloon, but from the moment Cora sets foot through the Devil's door, neither one of them is destined to be the same.
The characters are richly developed. The story is solid and wonderful, gritty in the same way that the movie Unforgiven pulls no punches showing just how wild the Wild West likely was. And yet, woven in with all that grit are pockets of love and hope and healing for two people who couldn't deserve it more.
Daddy Diggs hit all the right buttons for me. It was sweet in parts, sexy in others, down right hot where it ought to be and it didn't let up until the very end. It was well-written, but like I said, this is a Renee Rose book and this author is very good at what she does. If you are looking for a spanking romance you can lose yourself in and think fondly of for days after, look no further than this novel.
I loved this story! It was such a fast paced, fun read, that I couldn't put it down! I love romance stories, especially when a strong woman gets taken over an even stronger man's lap. All I can say is Phwoar! I love Daddy Diggory...is he available?
Very sexy read. The first sex scene had me gasping for it, literally. At first when I started reading I thought hmm, Jake and Eliza, not very Irish names for the times that were in it, but as it unfolds and I found out they were of the landed gentry I had to climb down off my high horse and admit they were very well chosen.
I'm not normally a great western scene fan but this book has made sure I'll look closer before I write them off in future.
Jake saved Cora from a burning building. Cora wasn't appreciative at first, but slowly she realized Jake was different from Smoochy. Jake and Cora realized what they felt was different than what Jake felt with the other girls the more they were together. This was such a well written story. It was erotic with the spankings. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading more by this author.
This was a good short read and was perfect for the reading challenge I was in (Domestic Discipline). For a short read, the story line didn't get out of control and the characters were very well flushed out. I kept thinking of the setting from Deadwood. It fit perfect. A great mix of drama, sex, humor, bad guys, and of course, a HEA with a kick (or should I say swat!).
I don't usually read historical fiction of any kind, but I've recently begun reading other thing by this author and decided to give it a try. It was surprisingly good. I thought the descriptions of everyday life during the time period were well done and integrated into the rest of the story easily.
I loved it. I loved the character Daddy Diggs. He made me swoon throughout. The story was fast paced, romantic and EXTREMELY sexy. I’ve added more of the author’s historical romance to my kindle. Excellent summer read.
