My review …
How I rated all three novellas ... 5 stars - Love Letter Courtship * Shelley Shepard Gray 2 stars - S.W.A.K * Charlotte Hubbard 5 stars - The Wrong Valentine * Rosalind Lauer 12 stars - Total (for all three novellas) 4 stars - Average 4 stars is Book Rating
I enjoyed reading “Love Letter Courtship” and “The Wrong Valentine”. “S.W.A.K.” — not so much because it was loaded with characters. Way too many for a novella.
“S.W.A.K ” is part of the Promise Lodge series by Charlotte Hubbard — an Amish series. I have read books 1 & 2 and in the process of reading another. The first two books were rated at 5 stars each. So what other issues with “S.W.A.K.”? Eddie. He is very young — too young for marriage and he knows it. But the more this “envelope girl” pursues him — and she is beyond something else if you get my meaning — instead of telling her no, No, and NO!!!! He ignores her and the advice he receives about dealing with her. I am up in years but haven’t forgotten how boys (and men) act around girls like that. The “envelope girl” and Eddie get very old very fast. So boredom plus every character (it seemed like) from the Promise Lodge series, the author lost my interest completely.
As for “Love Letter Courtship” and “The Wrong Valentine”, the authors, Shelley Shepard Gray and Rosalind Lauer respectfully, immediately grabbed my interest and presented a fun-to-read, engaging story. And a complete one. You will enjoy these two.
AND … Try the “middle” story by Charlotte Hubbard. Other reviewers rated it much higher and you may feel the same. I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of “Amish Love Letters” via NetGalley from the publisher, Kensington Books.

I have always loved the simplicity of letter writing. These three stories drew me in immediately. I found myself smiling throughout this book and feeling that “warm cozy” love in the air feeling. Everyone will enjoy reading about falling in love through letter writing, handmade Valentines, and of course the few mishaps and misunderstandings along the way!
I received this copy from NetGalley for my honest review. Thank you so much also to the authors and publisher
"Amish Love Letters" is a good fit for readers who enjoy heartfelt stories about the power of written communication, romantic pursuit, and the pursuit of meaningful connections in the Amish community.

My thoughts:📱16% 1:25:33 A Love Letter Courtship Ch. 8 - I'm not crazy about this one but it has a unique situation, if it wasn't the middle of the night I'd continue, it's not terribly exciting and I need to sleep so it can wait.
26% 💌 A Love Letter Courtship * Shelley Shepard Gray - It was okay, I felt like the ending was rushed, and I had to reread the ending because I was surprised it was over. It had a good plot but the story dragged and it stopped short of an ending, to me.
60% 💋 S.W.A.K * Charlotte Hubbard - This had a bit of a slow start but about a third into the story it became quite hilarious. I enjoyed this one very much.
💝The Wrong Valentine * Rosalind Lauer - It was okay. Not my cup of tea, but not bad.
Recommend to others: Maybe. This collection was very middle-of-the-road, the stories were good but not very exciting.
A sweet collection of three novellas to get you in the ValentinValentine’s spirit. All three were beautifully written and full of little surprises.
My favorite was Love Letter Courtship by Shelley Shepard Gray. I think more couples could learn about their companions through thoughtful letters.
S.W.A.K. By Charlotte Hubbard was a fun visit to Promise Lodge. It has been years since I thought about writing letters and putting those initials on them.
The Wrong Valentine by Rosalind Lauer was my first by this author and I’m happy to start looking for more by her. Martha has much to share with us and we can all learn from her tragedy.
These three endearing love stories will touch your heart and your emotions. I enjoyed them all, especially the first one, Love Letter Courtship, where a couple writes letters so they can get to know each other better. Each of the authors did a great job crafting a tale with love letters and authentic characters that seem so real and alive. The latter one is set around Valentine’s Day, so this is a perfect time to read it—although it’s great any time. I received a copy from one of the authors. All opinions are my own.
Included in this collection of novellas are three sweet love stories that are predictable but also surprising at times. I really enjoyed how each couple got together via the seemingly lost art of written correspondence, with some misunderstanding and a little conflict along the way. The characters are all lovable and well-developed, even though their stories are short. The conflict in each story is resolved in a believable and satisfying way. I loved venturing into the world of love letters and enjoyed this quick read immensely. This is a sweet trio of short stories for a romantic, clean read. Shelley Shepard Gray brings us a young couple who have been 'courting' for several months. Her family expects they will get engaged but when Matt asked Jennie to marry him, despite having feelings for him for years, she realizes they don't really know one another. Love Letter Courtship is an excellent story of a journey for two singular people. They need to get to know one another, to accept each other's challenges and discover real love. I appreciated the wisdom Jennie had under the circumstances. The two very different families make things interesting, too. I love anything Charlotte Hubbard writes with characters who live at Promise Lodge. Eddie Brubaker is excited for a change to be able to travel there with his sister so they can aid the community after a devastating tornado. He's trying to run away from a big problem that just happens to surface in his new home. There is character development here that I appreciate despite it being a short story. Quiet little Fannie Kurtz finally gets to show Eddie how she feels about him in S.W.A.K. Hubbard has this grand sense of humor that is priceless in her writing and it shows in this story. Rosalind Lauer Young offers The Wrong Valentine to readers for the heart-touching story of twenty-two-year-old widow Martha Lambright. The young mother fills her days with work and responsibility. When she decides to help teens that she works with to make Valentines, one of her own gets misplaced into the hands of Mose Troyer. This mishap leads to a chain of cards and messages that could change their lives. But it's a mistake. I really like the story. The eye-opening lessons learned make for an endearing romance story. I received an advanced reader's copy of this book from Kensington through NetGalley and this is my own unsolicited opinion of the collection. I enjoyed this quick read and recommend it for readers who enjoy thought provoking romance any time of the year.

As we're finishing up the Christmas and New Year's holidays, Amish Love Letters is a collection of Amish stories to turn your heart toward Valentine's Day. Shelley Shepard Gray, Charlotte Hubbard, and Rosalind Lauer have each shared a sweet love story -- although with some obstacles along the way in each one. All three stories included delightful and pretty typical Amish romances which were quick and easy to read. I particularly enjoyed Charlotte Hubbard's S.W.A.K. It was written with her usual style, which fits well within the Amish romance genre, but also takes you a little ways out of the typical box. For fans of her Promise Lodge series, you will be pleased to find that community to be the setting of this story and see several familiar characters showing up.
This may have been the first time I've read anything by Rosalind Lauer. I also enjoyed the stories both she and Shelley Shepard Gray included in the collection.
I recommend this book for fans of Amish romance, particularly those who might want to sample a variety of authors. Thanks to an author for providing a copy of Amish Love Letters. I was happy to share my own thoughts in this review.
About the Book

Maybe it’s time she wrote a love note or two of her own? But a mix-up could jeopardize this romance before it starts, unless she keeps faith in Gott’s plan . . .
The Wrong Valentine * Rosalind Lauer
Young widow Martha Lambright is grateful to be working at her mother-in-law’s restaurant, even if seeing the kitchen gals giggle over Valentine cards gives her a pang. But when Mose Troyer, the former bad boy who drives Martha to and from work each day, finds a Valentine he mistakenly believes is for him, it begins a tender exchange that could lead to a wonderful future . . .
Celebrate love with this short story collection from some of the most talented authors of Amish romance. Shelley Shepard Gray, Charlotte Hubbard, and Rosalind Lauer have teamed up to bring fans of faith-affirming romances, Amish Love Letters, a sweet collection that shows how the right words can spark a lifetime of joy.
In "A Love Letter Courtship," by Gray, Jennie Miller refuses Matthew Lapp's proposal. Despite their six-month courtship, Jennie doesn't feel a real connection necessary for a lifetime commitment. She suggests they spend the next month writing letters filled with their hopes and dreams. Soon, Jennie is falling for Matt, but did she miss her chance?
Hubbard's "S.W.A.K." is a story of mix-ups, romance, and faith. Fannie Kurtz knows fun-loving, attractive Eddie Brubaker is the man she wants to marry. But can someone as quiet as her catch the eye of the outgoing Eddie, who seems to attract friends without even trying? When he receives letters in pink envelopes, Fannie fears she might have fiercer competition than she thought. So, she writes letters of her own. But a mix-up could jeopardize their romance before it even starts unless Fannie puts her faith in God's plan.
Then in Lauer's "The Wrong Valentine," young widow Martha Lambright is grateful for how her late husband's family stepped up to help her. Working in her mother-in-law's restaurant helps her support her children, even if the girls from the kitchen giggling over making their valentine's cards reminds her of all she has lost. But when Mose Troyer, the bishop's former bad boy son and Martha's driver to and from work, finds a valentine he mistakenly believes is for him, it begins a tender exchange between them that could lead to a wonderful future.
Amish Love Letters is one of those books you need to hold onto so you can read it time and again. Each story is tender and sweet, celebrating not only romance, but the power of words. Jennie and Matt get to know each other in a way they never had, despite Matt visiting her house regularly. Eddie finds himself in quite a pickle, and even though he thought relocating to Promise Lodge would solve his issue, he discovers there are some problems you must face head on. Martha and Mose's story shows how misconceptions can interfere in finding happiness, but that heartfelt words show a side you might not always see.
If you are a fan of Amish romance, sweet stories, and faith-based story collections, you need to grab a copy of Amish Love Letters today. I highly recommend it.
Falling in love can be complicated a lot of times as proven by these three books. I loved reading each story and now I'm excited for Valentine's Day. I want to spread the spirit of love and make Valentines for my husband and everyone!
Love Letter Courtship * Shelley Shepard Gray
It was just expected for them to marry but did she really know him and did he know her? How in the world could they ever discover each other and find that love?
The solution, the revealed secrets, and the unconditional love that Jennie's parents showed Matt, set the stage for a great read.
S.W.A.K * Charlotte Hubbard
What a great mix up of Fannie's. I actually had to go back a couple of pages in Charlotte Hubbards book S.W.A.K. to make sure I got the names right! It was then I knew this book was going to get interesting! I also had to look up what S.W.A.K. meant (sealed with a kiss) but I didn't do that until I had read the book. It didn't deter me at all that I didn't know, I just kept reading.
I loved that the elders were looking out for Eddie and he was willing to listen. We all need advice sometimes and it can really help. I'm glad that they were there. The Wrong Valentine * Rosalind Lauer Rosalind Lauer is a new to me author. She wrote a beautiful story about young widow hopefully finding love again. Could she find the perfect husband? Is there a perfect husband? The Valentine mix up set the stage for an page turner. I loved the thoughts of valentines for everyone...not just your husband/boyfriend. Spread the love!
Great read!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Amish Love Letters by Shelley Shepard Gray, Charlotte Hubbard, and Rosalind Lauer is a sweet collection of novellas that are reminders about the power of writing and receiving a letter. In each of these three sweet Amish romances, written communication might work much better.
In Love Letter Courtship, Jennie's family loves Matt so much that they monopolize his time when he visits. Jennie and Matt learn about each other through their words shared through the letters they send. S.W.A.K. is a cute, funny story filled with confusion and learning the importance of speaking up from the start. A trip back to Promise Lodge, Fannie knows she wants Eddie but things don't go exactly as planned when pink paper and love get mixed up. Don't assume anything in matters of the heart. The Wrong Valentine story wasn't so wrong. Martha, a young widow helps the giggly young girls at work create Valentine's. When a card accidently gets mixed up with another, a romance grows between a widow and her driver as they pass secret valentines between them. There is a lot of kindness in the giving of a card, especially where love is concerned.
Anthologies like this offer readers a chance to experience different writing styles and storytelling within a common theme. If you enjoy Amish romance or inspirational fiction, "Amish Love Letters" may provide a delightful reading experience with its collection of love stories set against the backdrop of Amish life.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Love Letter Courtship by Shelley Shepard Gray is a charming and personal read. Jennie yearns for genuine connection and love, but what she feels from Matthew seems more like a marriage of convenience, given that he’s her brother’s best friend. Initially, Matthew struggles with Jennie’s rejection, but as they agree to write letters to understand each other better, he starts to appreciate her perspective. Gray's portrayal of imperfect Amish families with relatable challenges adds depth to the story, making it a compelling read.
S.W.A.K by Charlotte Hubbard initially didn’t appeal to me due to its teenage romance theme. As a more mature reader, I’ve generally moved past teenage romances. However, the story won me over as I observed Eddie’s growth into adulthood, learning important lessons about love and honesty. The unexpected twist was a nice touch, and I found myself curious about a potential future book featuring Fannie and Eddie as adults. I would definitely be interested in reading that.
The Wrong Valentine by Rosalind Lauer is a sweet and endearing story. Lauer’s depiction of the Amish community is refreshing, showing that not everyone judges others for their past and acknowledging the possibility of change. The Valentine’s card mix-up was a clever and unexpected plot device, adding a unique twist to the story. Although I was initially concerned about an overuse of Pennsylvania Dutch, which can sometimes feel forced, the narrative smoothed out, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the story.
Shelley Shepard Gray and friends have put together three wonderful stories about the Amish and how they live in the world with us. What I love most though it that we are shown that even the Amish have women who have not gotten the concept of being a true woman. They have been demanding, controlling and wanting only what they want not what the person they have chosen as a mate wants. But we are also introduced to three woman who know what it means to be a woman of GOD and through love and understanding they win the hearts of the three men even though the men don't know they need them at the time. Each of these stories put a smile on my face and make me wish at time that I had been born Amish and been able to be a woman of Eve and take care of my family and husband. I on the other hand worked, was constantly climbing the ladder of success only to realize in my elder years that the ladder really lead nowhere. I wanted children and a family but put it off till it was too late. I would rather have had a husband who came home at night and cherished his family. These stories will touch your heart and if you are young make you realize what is important in our lives. As we are raised to believe we can have it all but then we can't be the best we need to be at any one thing if we are pulled in to many directions.
I enjoyed all 3 stories. They were all well written. Lots of sweet romance in the stories. Each story was different. A Love Letter Courtship by Shelley Shepard gray shows how best friends can sometimes not really know each other well enough to get married. Matthew proposes to Jenni but she feels that something is missing. She suggests that they exchange letters for a month. Jenni learns some secrets that Matthew has been keeping from her and she has a few secrets she has kept. Will they make ahi of it after sharing their secrets? S.W.A.K. By Charlotte Hubbard was a good read about Eddie a single Amish man who is running from an Amish woman whom he has no intention of dating or marrying. Fannie starts sending love letters but Eddie leaves town without responding to her letters. Another Fannie has had her eyes set on Eddie for many years. Two Fannies are after Eddie. Will either catch him? The Wrong Valentine by Rosalind Lauer, a new author to me caught my attention from the first page. A young widow, Martha with two small children works at a local restaurant to earn enough money to support her family. Valentine is just in a few weeks away and Martha teaches her coworkers how to make special Valentine cards. A single Amish man , with the label bad boy , Moses finds a Valentine card he thinks is from Martha and the secret Valentine cards exchanging begin . What will happen when Martha discoveries whom the cards are from?
Amish Love Letters by Shelley Shepard Gray, Charlotte Hubbard, and Rosalind Lauer contains three sweet Amish stories. Love Letter Courtship by Shelley Shepard Gray is a charming tale. It is well-written with engaging characters. Jennie Miller and Matthew Lapp may have grown up together, but their courtship seems to be a Miller family affair. A month-long letter courtship will give the pair an opportunity to get to know each other as adults. We see that you may grow up with someone, yet you may not know everything about them. Love Letter Courtship is an emotional novel with a lovely ending. S.W.A.K. by Charlotte Hubbard takes us back to Promise Lodge. I found Eddie Brubaker and the determined letter writer to be frustrating. The story seemed to go around in circles. Eddie ignored advice (the letter writer was not going to go away) and manages to hurt someone feelings I the process. I was surprised that an Amish girl was so brazen. There are also a number of characters in the story (it seems like every character from Promise Lodge makes an appearance). The story does have a good lesson or two. I did feel that the romance was rushed. I enjoy reading Charlotte Hubbard’s novels, but S.W.A.K. was a miss for me (it left me annoyed). The Wrong Valentine by Rosalind Lauer is a touching story. I thought it contained good writing and characters. The descriptions of Mose’s sketches and Martha’s Valentine’s allowed me to visualize them. The ending left me smiling. I enjoyed reading Love Letter Courtship and The Wrong Valentine. I read each story in one sitting. While I liked visiting Promise Lodge and catching up with the characters in S.W.A.K., I was not a fan of the story. Amish Love Letters is a triumvirate of tales with a letter courtship, an interfering family, pink correspondence, painting parties, helpful counsel, a wary widow, cute sketches, and helpful friends.
This book consists of four wonderful novellas. It was such a good book and the three stories were each very different and do not relate to each other. The novellas were written by very talented authors and I loved each of these stories. The first deals with a very difficult situation and things which needed to be taken care of. It was a realistic view of some not so perfect family issues. The second story entitled S.W.A.K., takes place in Promise Lodge which there are several books about. I have read the Promise Lodge series and love them. This story was no exception. I really enjoyed this story. I enjoyed how Eddie came to help work on repairs for the Tornado damaged lodge.
The last story was about a young widow who is navigating life without a husband and wondering what the future will bring as her parents try to set her up with someone.
Each story revolves around love letters written between two people. This was a very sweet Amish book and the stories are well written and all very engaging. You won't want to put the book down. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Amish Love Letters is a compilation of three Valentine novellas by popular Amish fiction authors Shelley Shepard Gray, Charlotte Hubbard, and Rosalind Lauer.
A Love Letter Courship by Shelley Shepard Gray is about Jennie Miller and Matthew Lapp, who've been courting for six months. When Jennie refuseds Matthew's proposal, will their relationship be over for good?
S.WA.K. by Charlotte Hubbard will take you back to the beloved Promise Lodge community, where two different Fannies are after the same man--Eddie Brubaker. Who will be the winner?
The Wrong Valentine by Rosalind Lauer takes readers back to the Joyful River community, where Martha Lambright is struggling raising her two smal children alone after the tragic accident and death of her husband. Mose drives her and her children around the community every weekday. Could this former bad boy, son of their bishop, be possible marriage material?
These three stories were a fun, light-hearted read, I thought.
Thanks to Kensington Books and #NetGalley for an ARC e-pub of this book. All opinions expressed herein are strictly my own.
Overall, I loved the idea of Amish Love Letters. The 3 stories included in the book were very sweet, albeit a tad predictable, but well-written. I am a big fan of Shelley Shepard Gray, and I really loved her story, but it seemed like it was going along fine but the ending sort of happened in a hurry. I didn’t like the second story as much…I don’t think Fannie is a very common name, even in Amish stories, so I wasn’t quite buying the coincidence. Also, I’ve not read the Promise Lodge series yet, and I don’t like it when Amish novellas are based out of series that I haven’t had a chance to read yet. The last story, although it was by an author I was less familiar with was probably my favorite of the 3. I thought it was well-paced, the characters were well-developed, and the plot was very interesting. Although it also involved a mixup with letters like the 2nd story, I thought it seemed to be a better and more believable story. I liked the characters in that one the best too.
I’ve read probably at least 20 of these collections of Amish novellas, and they do tend to be predictable, but still a nice light read.
Three different stories, by three authors, and this novellas become page turners.
The first one is rather sad, but keep reading and hoping that this pair of Amish friends can turn into a sweet couple. A stumbling block, and one that is not easy to be around, but I loved how it was handled.
The second one happens back in a place I would love to live, Promise Lodge, and a new pair of siblings arrive to make a new start in their lives. Still recovering from the tornado, Eddie Brubaker is quickly putting his skills to work! He is hoping for a new start away from a woman whom is making him wary, but alas no luck. I loved how this one was worked out!
The final deals with a woman coming to terms of being a widow and the cause of what happened to her husband. This Valentines Day time, and she makes a mistake with a valentine she has had, and it changes her life!
I loved these stories, and just hated for them to end! Enjoy!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.
Three sweet Valentine's novellas that warmed my heart through and through. When I seen my three favorite authors I knew I had to have this book. I loved the idea of writing letters! To me, that's a great way to tell someone how you feel about them. And a good and easier for shy people that aren't good with words to say how you feel. Writing is easier for me or texting either way. I know the Amish doesn't do that unless they're in Rumspringa or a business. Some guys are rather slow in asking but I guess I can't blame them. They want to be sure it's the right lady or vice versa. I really enjoyed this book even though they are short stories. The only bad thing is they make u want more of each story! I did take my time and read one a day believe it or not. I wanted to savor each one. Each one was a sweet one. A little romance/something for everyone! 5 stars for keeping me engaged in each story. I recommend it My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Amish Love Letters Average 4-star rating. by Shelley Shepard Gray; Lenora Worth; Rosalind Lauer
What a wonderful three novellas in one book! Love Letter Courtship by Shelley Shepard Gray This is perhaps the first time I have read about domestic violence in an Amish book. It was handled very well and without any graphic details. I enjoyed the story and how Ms. Gray handled the more painful aspects of the tale. 4 stars
S.W.A.K by Charlotte Hubbard The second book was so good. This was by far my favorite of the three. I enjoyed the silly mix-ups and misunderstandings. This is a cute, light Amish romance. I loved the way the bishop helped Eddie and Fannie. SWAK is just a sweet unexpected romance book. 5 stars
The Wrong Valentine by Rosalind Lauer The third book was good as well, but it was a very expected Amish romance. It falls back on the trope of pushy Amish parents and a reformed bad boy preachers son. I would say this one is a 2.5 – 3 stars.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.
Check out the first book in the set which is A Love Letter Courtship written by Shelley Shepard Gray
Jenni and Matt have been friends for years. Matt is her twin brother's best friend.
Matt has been coming over to visit her but her family always ends up staying and spending as much time with Matt as she does.
Now he is coming over to announce some big news. Her family is thrilled but the news won't be what they are expecting it to be.
.The second book in the set is S.W.A.K.
Eddie keeps receiving letters in the mail on pink stationary with S.W.A.K. and hearts all over it. Fannie thinks that she loves Eddie and is very bold in her letters.
Eddie doesn't want to get married to anyone right now.
Really enjoyed the story
The Wrong Valentine
Mose is an Amish young man who drives Martha and her children where ever she wants to go in his buggy.
Martha's little one gives him a Valentine. She is only 4 but there was something in that same envelop that should not have been there.
The book has 3 stories written by different authors. The cover is very nice. a) Love Letter Courtship - Shelley Shepard Gray "Jenni, Matthew seems especially eager to see tonight. Don't keep him waiting" They know each other since they are young, they love each other, they are engaged, but seems they don't know each other very much. Matthew has troubled family and he obscure it from other persons, also to Jenny. When the young couple starts to write letters to each other, it grows and love more. b) S.W.A.K - Charlotte Hubbard Aunt Minerva is in need of help and ask Vera and Eddie to come to live with her. Eddie receives love letters, he is not happy about it. Sincerity is important. c) The Wrong Valentine - Rosalind Lauer It's Valentine time. All amish people, about all girls, are excited to handmade Valentine cards to gift them to their dear people and boys. "Martha was his age (Mose), but in a different place in her life" "He was walking in his own shoes, choosing his own path"
In our fast paced, technology driven culture, it seems that hand writing letters is quickly becoming a dying art. But in these 3 novellas, home made cards and valentines take center stage as they bring people closer together like nothing else can. This collection of stories was like a warm comforting blanket on a cold day. I enjoyed them all very much, even though it is not Valentine’s day yet. They were a good reminder to be kind to everyone no matter what day it is, and that love can be found in unexpected places. I deducted a star because one story in particular was a little confusing, in my opinion, and had quite a few typos. None of that will keep me from recommending this book however. It is a sweet, easy, clean read that will take you to a simpler place where people still actually write letters. *I received a complimentary copy of this e-book from NetGalley and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In these three sweet Amish romances, written communication might work much better. In 'Love Letter Courtship', Jennie's family loves Matt so much that they monopolize his time when he visits. Jennie suggests writing letters to each other so they can know each other better. In 'S.W.A.K ', Eddie is hoping that his move to Promise Lodge will stop a persistent girl from pursuing him. Eddie is confused when he doesn't realize that he is receiving mail from two different Fannies. My favorite story is 'The Wrong Valentine'. Romance blossoms between a widow and her driver as they pass secret valentines between them. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I liked all three of these stories very much. The first two stories are based on very young couples, but I still enjoyed them. I felt there was more depth to the last story.
