It’s winter in the Seasons of the Dead. The careers of three New York writers hang in the balance when they’re invited to a photo exhibition by a top publisher. But the publisher’s pet zombie is also on exhibition. And someone is going to leave this gallery of the soul with a bad taste in their mouth. Dead Reckoning, a short story by William T. Tripp.
I liked this. I wasn't confident at first, as I was 10% "through" the book before the story even started.
However, the premise isn't all run-and-gun apocalypse, it's art-scene based and zombies are now pets (although they shouldn't be allowed in or near civilised society). If you're looking for something more than the sterile "guns and gore" piece of work, then this is probably ideal for you.
A well thought-out and well composed bite sized piece of fiction. You'll be done in about 15 minutes, but it's perfect for the commute and it's only 77p, so it's not as if you've got a lot to lose! Will check out more from Tripp in the future.
