Penny Dread Tales #3

Penny Dread Tales: Volume Three: In Darkness Clockwork Shine

Rate this book
In this tome, the third installment of the Penny Dread Tales series, we explore not only the darker side of steampunk but also the black, sullied underbelly of the human condition. The nightmare of Jack the Ripper stalks these pages… drenching them in blood… twice. Slavery, the murder of the weak and helpless, dire choices of life and death: these tragedies and more become fodder for the mind, where the possessed and dispossessed steal men’s lives, and in some cases, their souls. This volume is rich with shadowy settings shrouded in fog, and the ensuing brutality is glimpsed piecemeal through windows of moonlight where dark shadows hide nefarious villains plotting murder and mayhem upon unsuspecting victims. PDT3 carries the reader to the four corners of the Earth and beyond. It traverses the centuries, from the Victorian era all the way into a future 40,000 years distant. It is an exploration of mankind’s darkest dreams and nightmares, and in its reading you too may experience nightmares where might In Darkness Clockwork Shine.

An incredible story that hads everything a steampunk fanatic would want and more. The combination of dark tales from a collection of talented Authors was incredible to follow, each author had a rich and distinct voice and a endless supply of creative plots and twists, especially when investigating the infamous mystery of Jack the Ripper.

It's the book that has everything! Literally. I was really looking forward to reading this book when I first saw it at RT2013, I couldn't wait till I got to take my first step into the unknown world of steampunk. I would love to especially point out Author Aaron Ritchey and his works in Penny Dread Tales: Volume Three: In Darkness Clockwork Shine.
In everything that Aaron Ritchey writes you can just see and feel the chaos of his world build around you. His incredible witty humour and originality cannot be copied. If I didn't love steampunk before, I definitely LOVE steampunk now.

Thanks for the fantastic adventure!
Can't wait till I get to read more.

A fine anthology of mostly steampunk short stories. Well edited and put together, this book blends 100% science fiction steampunk with more fantastical steampunk, and a little bit of horror sprinkled in for good measure.
The book is also a nice blend of seasoned writers and the newly published.
Good from start to finish.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each story had its own unique voice and feel. I'm not the biggest Steam Punk fan, but a close friend of mine was a contributing author so I picked it up and let me tell you, you don't have to like Steam Punk to enjoy this book! I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys compilations of short stories, especially if you like the darker side of humanity.
