4,5 (a great book but not one of my favourites / must re-read)
The beginning is well written, and the end + cliffhanger solid. This author knows how to write action scenes and make them interesting, but I feel like the pacing in the middle of the book was a bit strange? Idk... It's also the part that I remember the least sooo... meh I was a bit worried about a couple characters being annoying (on purpose?) but overall the author manages to make you root for the kids and relate to them while also making the adults so frustratingly unhelpful (on purpose again?)... Yeah I can't wait to read the next book and see how this ends
as the second installment of a three-part series, it had a few slumping moments. nevertheless, even those are necessary for the whole trilogy! i loved the way the story unfolds, the plot twists, the cliffhangers... it definitely does its work!!
