Finally I had time to read some Astrology again. Prudêncio was a nice surprise within the Portuguese astrological scene. He is concise, intelligent and quite versed in philosophy. There is no one like him in philosophical terms in the Portuguese scene. However, the book makes it clear that he sees himself almost as a savior of philosophy revealing a hybris that makes me uncomfortable. There are some philosophical inconsistencies that need to be address, mainly because his idea of Astrology as "simply a language" does not account for the kind of phenomena he describes in his own consultations. His approach to religion is reductionist and poor. However his system of ethics is quite interesting and non-judgmental. Stripping the signs of their mythological meanings seems like a mistake to me. My favorite parts were the sections on ethics and health. The idea of the six axis of ethics is truly genius and I am sad he only dedicated a small chapter to it. His response to Cicero's On Divination could be more developed.
