Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before people invented navigable aircraft and practical submarines and devised any means of spacecraft. He ranks behind Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie as the second most translated author of all time. People made his prominent films. People often refer to Verne alongside Herbert George Wells as the "father of science fiction."
Obviously a classic. I enjoyed both stories albeit woefully inaccurate as far as our understanding of things 150 years ago. Worth the read though, if only as a story in how we perceived science, technology and the universe back then.
Only read 20000 Leagues Under the Sea for now, will likely check out Around the Moon at a later time. I do not generally read Science Fiction but really enjoyed this adventure.
