Marsupials

Rate this book
Bestselling children’s author Kay de Silva presents “Marsupials”. The book uses captivating illustrations and carefully chosen words to teach children about "The pouched mammal”.

This series is known as one of the most beautiful on the kindle. The pictures look great even in black and white and are excellent on the full color kindle. The description in the large text beneath is simple enough for early readers or for a parent to guide a child through.

There is also a picture caption, which provides more information to talk about with your child. Alternatively, a child of any age (even the child in you) can just look at the images and appreciate their beauty.

This book depicts the wonder of the world of Marsupials in all its glory. Children are given a well-rounded understanding of these fascinating creatures: their anatomy, feeding habits and behavior. The following marsupials are featured:
* The burrowing Bilby
* The abundant Common Brushtail Possum
* The endangered Eastern Quoll
* The cantankerous Kangaroo
* The diminutive Numbat
* The curious Potoroo
* The happy Quokka
* The sweet-toothed Sugar Glider
* The vicious Tasmanian Devil
* the unique Virginia Opossum
* The social Wallaby
* The tubby Wombat

I enjoyed compiling this book. I even learned a few things along the way. Perhaps you will too.

Kay de Silva created the Our Amazing World Series with the premise of creating beautiful, fact-rich books, written in simple words that kids would love to read over and over again.

The series is based on themes of animals in their natural habitats, with a strong call to appreciate the role that each living creature plays in making our world the abundant and fascinating place that it is.

Kay practiced as a lawyer for some years before moving into corporate communications. She left the career rat-race behind to bring up her two children; a daughter of seven and a son of five. She and her family live in Melbourne Australia.

"It's so rewarding to hear of the delight that my books bring to young readers. Equally thrilling are the messages from parents who say 'Really? I didn't know that."

It was a surprise to learn that there are hundreds of marsupials worldwide. In the US, the only marsupial is the Virginia Opossum. However, there are about 70 different marsupials in Central and South America. In addition, Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands have hundreds of marsupials native to their lands.

The author tells her readers that marsupials are in trouble; their homes and forests are disappearing. Next, she speaks about conservationists trying to save the marsupials' habitat. This powerful message works because the author's photos and text are enchanting.

I have read 5 other books by Kay de Silva, and I have liked them, but they haven't been my favorite, since they would talk about evolution time to time. I must say though that I think this is my favorite one by her. This book reminded me of some of the books by Leanne Annett (the 'Kid's Aussie Flore and Fauna Series', and 'God's Amazing Creation Series'), I.P. Factly (the 'Amazing Animals Series', and '101 Animal Facts' series), and IC Wildlife ('25 Amazing Animals Series'). (which by the way, Kay, is a VERY BIG COMPLIMENT coming from me.) Great read. I would read it again.
