The Passage meets Ender's Game in an epic new series from award-winning author Rick Yancey.
After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother--or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

Rick is a native Floridian and a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago. He earned a B.A. in English which he put to use as a field officer for the Internal Revenue Service. Inspired and encouraged by his wife, he decided his degree might also be useful in writing books and in 2004 he began writing full-time.
Since then he has launched two critically acclaimed series: The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp, for young readers, and The Highly Effective Detective, for adults. Both books are set in Knoxville, Tennessee, where Rick lived for ten years before returning to Florida.
i can't express how much i enjoyed this sampler, these are the first 70 pages of the 5th wave, it was sooo fast to read and gave me an idea of what to expect from the book, and i can honestly say that "the 5th wave" wasn't what i thought it would be (in a positive way) i will definitely read the whole book
That was 70 pages? It went by in a blink. Thus far, I like to say it's a little bit The Road, a little bit The Hunger Games, a little bit The Stand and a little bit Revolution (the tv show). Can't wait for the rest!
How do you rid the Earth of humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.
The brilliance of The 5th Wave was ultimately more in the characterization of the aliens than the people themselves. I think, ultimately, what I just loved about this book was how the others systematically decimated the human population. Told from the perspective of sixteen-year-old Cassie, the novel takes the concepts of fear and manipulation and gives readers the most real characters you could possibly imagine.
It's almost unfathomable, imagining the world in which our characters find themselves. And as we follow Cassie, and later Ben Parrish, through their journeys in the aftermath of the four attacks that have come from whatever entity--which we're left to question and wonder about over and over again in the most intriguing way--and the development of the 5th wave itself, we find ourselves growing deeply attached and hopeful for all the characters involved.
I don't think there was a single moment while reading The 5th Wave where I found myself feeling disappointed with the way things were going. I was intrigued, excited, curious, fascinated, and especially emotional. Yancey manages to throw together a novel filled with an incredibly emotion driven plot while simultaneously giving us invisible villains that are psychologically terrifying. I found myself thinking of how I would respond in the wake of such attacks, and quickly determined that I'm no Cassie Sullivan.
You left me standing here, a long, long time ago..
A very bitter and cruel end to the world. The aliens came, and there was nothing anyone could do. No brave soldiers, no brilliant solutions. No communication, we never had a chance. This is the story of Cassie, one of the last survivors. Maybe the only survivor. How do you hold on to hope, when everything and everyone is gone? I'm anxious to read the rest of her story.
Wow this seems really good :) I read a lot of dystopia novels so they have all started to sound the same to me and are starting to get a bit boring but my heart was racing as I was reading this so that's a pretty good sign haha :) I just hope that it doesn't end up being too predictable later on *fingers crossed* I can't wait to read the rest of it!
I really enjoyed this sample. It was written really, really well. The descriptions were amazing and I liked the fact that it gave such good background. I really want to read the rest of the book however I can't spend over $9 for a kindle book. So I am waiting for the price to drop. Drop soon!
It took a bit of time to get started so you need to have some patience with it. After that its just brimming with action and there are several twists. I loved it so much! It just grabbed onto me and refused to let go until the very last page!
Fast story line that pulled you in almost immediately. The fact that this one was free made it even better. Just wish there was more to this one. Looking forward to seeing more of Cassie and her having to survive the Others.
The first fourteen chapters of this book caught my attention, and would like to read the full story. I will try to read the rest of the soon. Thank you.
