So if you made it to vol 2, you probably already know whether you can deal. (And I will add here that the squick factor of this trope is high for me and usually I Do Not Pass Go).
Here's the thing though. - These are great characters, comic for sure but also relatable and genuine - The back story makes sense, and altho you have to suspend your disbelief to some extent (it's manga after all), so does the psychology - It's freaking funny - It's really freaking funny, and the Japanese History club is especially great. (I am the person who made my skiing friends go from Takayama to Nozawa Onsen via Matsumoto so I could take a tour round the castle.) - The art is perfect. Took me a while to realise because at first it seems ordinary, but then I clocked how distinct all the characters were, how each panel is doing at least two things at once, how revealing the facial expressions were as I got more and more invested in the gloriously warped plot...
The above goes for the whole series (which I binged. It's that awesome).
Same review for the whole series, since saying anything about the rest of the volumes would be spoilers 3.5/5 This is one of those series you start and your first reaction is a healthy and powerful WHAT THE HECK?! 20-years-old Minato decides to use her friend's high school uniform just for fun. To her horror, she ends up running into her stepbrother, who ends up asking her out. (Super condensed first chapter). I wasn't expecting to like it and, to be completely honest, I didn't. Until vol. 2. This volume isn't bad, but I just had a couple of issues with the story of a sister dating her brother (stepsister & stepbrother, but still...) My issues are cleared after that second volume and I could actually enjoy the story. After all, Minato does too many weird thing to not laugh at least a little.
Cute story, but not my favorite. Took a couple of chapters for me to get used to the art.
Curiosity got the best of me, and I just had to read the next volume. But I liked this a lot less than the first one, surprisingly. There was just way too much back and forth, flip-flopping on Minato's part. One second she decides to break up, and the next she regrets doing it. The whole situation was annoying and frustrating. By the end I was so bored and irritated. I don't think I'll continue this series, but I might change my mind in the future.
Still very interesting relationship, I wonder how it will develo further. It's really cute how he listens to her and really does things she says or mentions. So cute I wonder what will happen when she gets found out?
