Finally, a book to teach me how to properly curse in Armenian! Not to mention the sex scenes... This book was racy but the juxtaposition of the Old World and the New World was artfully addressed, Berberian didn't disappoint in making us laugh, and the subject matter wss original. I couldn't put it down.

One of my favorite Vahe Berberian's books. Part of it can be a fiction but i definitely think there is part of real life and the author expresses these moments with such a great style, breathtaking. A must read.

A quick read.
In 2012, when I first heard about the book, it was the original title [that is in Armenian] that piqued my curiosity. I was told briefly about the story (not a cool thing to do, I know) but however, it was the language written (Western Armenian), the author (Vahe Berberian) and the psychology behind the book that I was more interested in than the storyline itself.
In these 5 years, never had I got the chance to get the book in Western Armenian, but it was couple of months ago when Vahe Berberian visited Beirut and kindly signed and gave one of his copies to me in English.
Although not in the original language, but the style of the writer prevails and the author has an extensive presence in the translation. Having the author's novel "Letters from Zaatar" and theatrical work 'Baron Garbis" in mind, I can mention the Armenian versus non-Armenian dilemma of an Armenian family through old love versus new love, Armenian women versus American women and living in the past versus living in the present inner conflicts that first and second generations of survivors of the Armenian Genocide living in the West have faced/face/would face in the last century. The book was first published in 1999.
Vahe Berberian is an Western Armenian post-modernist writer that has completely immersed in a disapora Armenian cultural and social fates during mid-20th century, and is capable of retrieving that and bringing that era back to life while raising existential questions around Armenian identities.

Վահէ Պէրպէրեանը ժամանակակից արևմտահայ գրականութեան ամենակարդացուած հեղինակներէն մէկն է, ամենասիրուած լիբանա-ամերիկահայ մենակատակերգակը (one man show), նաև լաւ նկարիչ:
Յանուն Հօր և Որդւոյ գիրքը ինչպէս անունը կը յուշէ հայր և զաւակ յարաբերութեան մասին է: Վահէն կը սիրէ տապուներ (taboos) ջարդել. այստեղ տապուներէն առաջինը խորագիրն է, In the Name of the Father and the (holy) Son, խաչակնքման առաջին երկու բաղադրիչները որ պիտի շաղկապուի երկրորդին՝ հօր ք… տղուն ընկերուհիին հետ: Իւրաքանչիւր զաւկի համար նախ հայրը Աստուած է, որ վերջը պիտի մարդանայ: Վահէն պատմութեան վերջը սկիզբէն կը գրէ “ինծի համար, հօրս կիսանդրին այնքան ծանր էր, որ պատուանդանէն վար առնելու ատեն ձեռքէս ջարդ ու փշուր ըրի”…
Գլխաւոր հերոսը Հրայրն է, որ Լիբանանէն գաղթած է Գալիֆորնիա և հայկական աւանդութեան համաձայն կ՛ապրի հօր հետ միասին նոյն յարկաբաժնի մէջ թէև երեսունէն վեր է ու ամուրի: Երկուքի սրտերուն մէջ չսպիացած վէրք կայ և լուռ մեղադրանք իրար հանդէպ՝ զաւակ/ եղբայր կորսնցուցած են Լիբանանեան պատերազմին: Հօր տիպարը Վահէի “ևայլն” մենաներկայացման մէջէն նկարուած իր իսկական հայրն է, “Հայրս նոյնիսկ երբ տանը ըլլար ինք տարբեր իրականութեան մէջ կ՛ապրէր, տարբեր server-ի վրայ: Մեր իրականութեան հետ կապ չունէր:” Հրայրի հայրն ալ ինքզինք շրջապատած է իր գիրքերով, ստեղծած իր աշխարհը, կ՛ապրի տարբեր serverի վրայ մինչև որ իրենց տունէն ներս կը մտնէ շատ երիտասարդ … բոզ մը: Հրայրը հայերէնի ուսուցիչ է և սիրողական դերասան հայ բեմի վրայ: Ներկայացուելիք թատրոնը հայոց Արտավազդ գլխատուած թագաւորի մասին է, մարմինը և գլուխը անջատաբար կը գոյատևեն. Իր առօրեայ կեանքի մէջ բոզի մուտքով նախ Հրայրը և աւելի ուշ հայրը պիտի ունենան գլխու և մարմնի խորհրդանշական անջատում: Պատմութեան այս մասը կը վերջանայ…” ժամանակին կար ու չկար պզտիկ, ճերմակ, անուշիկ նապաստակ մը կար: Նապաստակը ճի**** կերաւ”… (ևայլն ):
Արծարծուող տագնապալից նիւթերէն մէկը Յանուն Հօր և Որդւոյ պատմութեան մէջ հայերէն գիրքերու ճակատագիրն է. Ամերիկա տուներու մէջ կան հարիւրաւոր և երբեմն հազարաւոր հայերէն գիրքեր Հրայրի պարագային դեռ ան կրնայ հայերէն կարդալ և յետոյ տէր դառնալ գիրքերուն. Սակայն իրականութեան մէջ նոյնիսկ հայկական դպրոց աւարտած ամերիկածին հայերու համար հայերէնը թևրևս խօսակցական լեզու է, բայց ոչ ընթերցանութեան:
“Է հապա … վաղը մեռնիմ երթամնէ այս գիրքերուն վիճակը ինչ պիտի ըլլայ:”
“Յանուն Հօր և Որդւոյ” արագ կարդացւող գիրքը 156 էջանոց վիպ մըն է, որ կարելի է մէկէ աւելի անգամ կարդալ:
