Roan Quigley is a down-and-out private eye in Los Angeles, eking out his meager existence by following cheating spouses and taking on the odd case.
And there is no case odder than this...
On a lazy day, with clients few and far between, a very strange man appears in the detective's office. Roan can't quite place the odd accent, nor can he make much sense of the man's clothing. But when the stranger produces a bag of gold, Roan perks up.
Soon, Roan's simple world is turned upside down as he journeys into the Realm, a magical kingdom that lies parallel to Los Angeles. Here, the ace detective is thrown into a world of flying dragons, orcs and wizards, where spells are real and magic is deadly. Now Roan must use all his skills and knowledge to not only stay alive but to track down a ruthless killer and save a kingdom in the process.
Though he spent the first four years of his life in England, Piers never returned to live in his country of birth after moving to Spain and immigrated to America at age six. After graduating with a B.A. from Goddard College, he married one of his fellow students and and spent fifteen years in an assortment of professions before he began writing fiction full-time.
Piers is a self-proclaimed environmentalist and lives on a tree farm in Florida with his wife. They have two grown daughters.
Another will written paranormal fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror ghost 👻 adventure thriller novella by Anthony Piers and J. R. Rain ☔. The detective is approached by a magic users to come and solve a murder. Little does he know that it is in a magic kingdom. He meets the Queen 👑 and falls in love 💘but the fun is just beginning. I would recommend this series and authors to readers of paranormal fantasy adventure mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 😀👑🏰😮
I loved this book! Piers Anthony has added yet another to my favorite authors!
Who hasn't yearned for a life other than their own? Dreams can be funny sometimes taking you to places that feel more like home to you. Being a private eye, you see a lot of things wrong with this life and the people in it. Wouldn't it be great to discover that you are not from here, do not belong here, but are something much more than you ever imagined? This is such a journey. I really hope for a sequel.
Not expected from either author. Good read in a fantasy format but far from the sci-fi of Antony or the crime fiction of Rain. I bought on their past individual works and found a bit of fiction far from either. Engaging and unique, it was just not quite what I came for. Good enough for a pandemic read, but not for a follow through.
I, like many people, grew up reading Piers Anthony. When I saw his name attached to this book I had no choice but to buy it. I'm sad to say that the book itself was not very good. The story was very convoluted with lots of switchbacks and it was hard to keep up with the storyline. The authors choice of first person, while good in many detective stories, did not work here. The author did tell an ok story but did not show a very good story. The end was too quick and did not give me enough time to properly appreciate the final Titanic battle between good and evil. It's almost as if the author was working on a word count. Once he arrived at the proper number of words for the book he simply ended it. As much as I like Piers Anthony I probably will not buy any more books by this other offer.
Piers Anthony is my favorite author and I just started reading JR Rain and love his Jim Knighthorse series. So I feel down about this book. I loved the story line and the characters but it seemed a bit rushed. I got confused on who fathered who. When I read I tune out but some of the reading had my stopping to figure out what was happening. The ending was so abrupt that I was left thinking "what the heck". Even if it was meant to be a short story, I still thought it was lacking. It was a fun read though. I know Anthony and Rain collaborated on another series so I will check that out. I still love these authors, check out their other books, they are awesome.
Dragon Assassin is a pleasing story about a private investigator who is asked to step outside of the boundries of our world to find the most recent King of the Realm's assassin.
It combines crime investigation with the fantasy genre and has the kind of humorous leanings to which both Rain and Anthony are prone.
A reasonably entertaining novella, I did subtract one point as the ending felt a little less together than I'd like. Overall, though, an enjoyable read.
I admit it. I got this book and read it due simply to the fact that the authors are two of my favorites. It started out great, but then just sort of fizzled out. It really seemed to lack substance. There were a lot of twists and turns, but I kept feeling like they were in a rush to get the book finished. The characters were well developed and believable. And it was good for a chuckle all the way through. I just expected more from two authors with as much experience as they have.
