Max is a broken woman with secrets drowned in a rough past. She’s looking to start over in a new town several states away. Never did she expect her past to follow her. Neither did she expect to find not one, but two men, anxious to love her.
But they have a secret of their own, and it follows them everywhere.
Ayden is the alpha of the local werewolf pack. Josh is the alpha of the neighboring town’s pack. They grew up together; best friends. There’s little rivalry between these two…until their voluptuous, plus size mate walks into their lives. Will a shared mate bring these two best friends closer, or tear them apart?
The decision is made for them when their mate turns to them for help. They will stop at nothing to protect Max, but how far are they willing to go?
Learning of their beastly dark side, will Max be able to face them without fear? After all, it’s a past full of fear she’s trying so hard to escape…
I was born and raised in Charleston, SC, but now live in the hottest place on earth: Orlando, FL. I have three beautiful children who keep me running non-stop. When I'm not juggling life and kids, you'll find me huddled away somewhere writing my next book or happily reading someone else's. Like most authors I've come across, I'm a coffee addict, own far too many books than I can fit on my shelves, and I go to work in my pajamas a lot.
Where do I start? Guess my intro will be: “I feel as if I have been running a marathon for days…”
Stereotype, I know.
I am not fond of curvy heroines. I like them once in a while but I am not looking for them when I buy a book. I generally discover the heroine is curvy when I start reading the story. Even if it is mentioned in the blurbs, most of the time, the authors picture them as a “little” curvy but not “overly” curvy. Guess if we need sizes, they are generally a size 14 (which is the average US/Can woman size by the way) but rarely 3X or higher. I guess most authors are a little shy on this… except Christin Lovell.
The story really moved me, voicing so many of my own insecurities and showing me that my imperfections can be sexy when viewed through the right pair of eyes. Due to the nature of this characters back story I did occasionally grow a tad annoyed with Max, I'm a strong minded gal with a 'next one comes in another fifteen' attitude about men, so to read someone so defeated was at times difficult, but I reminded myself that the authors purpose was to truly capture the state of mind of the character; and, how could I feel the height of her happiness without exploring the depths of her sadness? Max's character arc is wonderful to follow; learning her strengths and allowing herself to be vulnerable while showing her men how strong a woman is to allow herself to show that vulnerability and be rewarded with love, respect, and devotion from not one, but two sexy shifters. I was truly amazed and pleasured to read this book and you will be as well.
Omg live this book. If you every know about abuse you can relate to this. You know what she is going though. It makes you think . Very good a must read
Max has been abused for so long by her ex, she is scarred of everyone. When two wolf shifter Alpha's find she is their fated mate, they try to talk with her but she runs away. They know they will have to take it slow to let her get used to them as shifters who protect their mate always. As Max finds her inner strength, she finds she has a brother named Cade who is also a shifter. Cade has a strong feeling he must protect Max right from the beginning before he knows she is his sister. Their mother passed after she was born but we don't know why she grew up as an orphan while Cade didn't. This is Max's story about how she overcomes the past physical and mental abuse, finds love with two Alpha wolf shifters and how she begins a new life with friends, family and love.
First off this book was way over priced for the content. Over 3/4 of the book was the h inner dialogue about how bad she felt about herself. I get it she was mentally abused and had to work n herself, but that shouldn’t keep you from actually writing a story and not rushing the end!!
For a MFM paranormal romance this was a good read. However, I would not consider this a Dom/Sub book at all. This book is very VERY vanilla. If your looking for a good Dom/sub werewolf book, this is NOT it.
First off I will tell you that this is a "love it" or "hate it" book. It is absolutely full of triggers for anyone who has been abused. Now, I will continue, and tell you why I am giving it a five-star review. (May be some mild spoilers)
This book is about truth. It is certainly full of a lot of self-abuse as well as flashbacks, because when someone has been systematically broken, it takes time, strength, support and patience to move past that. The negative reviewers have obviously not experienced anything similar to describe the heroine as "whiny". That in and of itself is an abusive designation. If anything, Max is amazingly resilient to be able to cope with the profound changes and mindset alterations happening rather rapidly in her life. I've worked with domestic violence survivors, sat in support groups with them and gone to court. The passage from victim to survivor is not as easy as some authors make it out to be, as if you can just flip a switch and say, suddenly, "Oh, I'm worthy of love, I'm a great and beautiful person." Christin Lovell put a lot of real life pain in here, and yes, it is difficult sometimes not to want to sit the heroine down and tell her why she's having these issues, give her an education that abuse is never the answer to anything and no victim is ever responsible or to blame for it.
I love that the author gave her a "safe" person to lean on as well as the alpha pair who want to claim her. Both Josh and Ayden are great characters, very different, and totally likeable, but Max also needed someone fairly neutral who simply had her comfort in mind without agendas. It gave her space to work through her issues. The characters were all well formed in my opinion, even some of the secondary ones like Ayden's second Sully, who I'd like to see have a book of his own (a book for Clay is already promised). There's a lot of room for exploration of stories in both packs. There was plenty of tension in the book that pushed it along, though I did feel a little bit of letdown that the "bad guy" didn't get more of a comeuppance; he was a sadistic bastard and certainly deserved a wicked end, but hey. Kumbaya, I guess, there's a bigger HEA going on for everyone. The author even saw to it that all our cathartic fantasies of revenge are taken care of and tucked away. Good on you, Christin.
So if you like shifters, enjoy romance (and a little bromance as well), you're titillated by the idea of menage, and you are not looking for a quickie that is all about sex but gives you some of that too, pick this one up. Not for the faint of heart, there is graphic violence and language, exploration of post-traumatic stress, and sexual content.
OMG! If I didn't already enjoy reading the works of Christin Lovell, I am totally hooked now. Not only hooked, but hook, line and sinker. Wow! You have totally outdone yourself here Christin! This is such a wonderful story, that covers numerous different issues, including children of orphanages and foster care, "spousal" assault (whether you are married or not) and belittlement, abandonment, low self-esteem, and the struggle to turn you life around when you are totally alone in the world. I love ménage stories to begin with, but this blew my mind. There is no way you can't fall in love with these guys. What warm blooded woman wouldn't want a god-like, hot, hot, hot wolf/man to dote on her, let alone two of them. And then to find family you never knew you had, after all these years? Wow. Max is a beaten down, plus sized woman who finds herself in the arms of not one, but two werewolves who claim she is their mate, after being "thrown out" by her abusive live in boyfriend of 3 years. Josh and Ayden only want to love and protect her, but find they have to be extremely patient because of her ex. Cade, another hot specimen, fits in the picture somehow, but I'm not going to tell you where. You will have to read the book. But I can guarantee, it is definitely a must read. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did
Let me start off with this book is an excellent well written story. I usually can't stand reading about a woman hating her body and her weight issues over and over. But in the beginning of this story, it was plain that this young woman had been severely abused in all areas. You know it's bad when you believe that the lying piece of fecal matter that you lived with for three years is correct in his assessment of you. When you have never had anything or anyone to hold on or trust in how can you know how to guard yourself against these monsters that are out there. This story tore me up because I know people it's happened to. It doesn't matter what anyone else tells them they are being controlled by the monster. And this is how I saw Max's dilemma, she couldn't believe in good for her or goodness in her because she still knew the monster was right about her.
Since I know that right always trumps wrong...and there is a God in heaven...She is going to allow people who love and care for her to finally get through. Enjoy this read the subject is rough but well done.
I loved loved loved that this was a longer book compared to most in the series. I sincerely hope the author does more lengthy books in the future.
I loved that Josh and Ayden were 100% in the relationship from the minute they scented her and even though she was the damaged one they took the time to learn about themselves and attempt to improve in areas (for example how they treated women, and having better control).
The abuse Max suffered was horrific. I think it could have been just as emotional with half the number of flashbacks to her past with Greg. It got to be repetitive and I felt the time would have been better spent focusing on the threesome relationship developing between the main characters (2 of them very alpha) and helping Max overcome her anxiety. The sudden turnaround allowing her to confront her past seemed a tad convenient.
Still a good read, but a little under developed and focused too much in the past rather than the present. We knew her past was terrible, I just missed seeing them really deal with it.
Yes, this is a paranormal romance...with some detours along the way. At times, I had to put my Kindle down to regroup as some of what was written was brutal and had me cringing because some of what the female lead had experienced in the past (mainly the verbal assaults) awakened some of my own experiences dealing with abuse. Abuse plays a major role in this woman's life and two men come into her life who want to help her. Fear keeps her from taking that first step, so Ayden and Josh have to help her find her feet and her courage. These two smoking hot werewolves want her and in order to claim her, she has to want what they are offering...but who would want a fat, lazy, stupid, good-for-nothing like her? There are no cliffhangers (thank you Jesus). It's a long, hard ride, but worth every second of reading it. I love the talent this author displays in her writing and have downloaded more of her books! For mature readers only.
Max is a broken woman who moves to another state to escape the ghosts of her past. But unfortunately it follows her.
Josh and Ayden are Alphas to two neighboring packs and best friends, and they haven scent their mate. They must decide to share their mate or lose their friendship. But Max takes that out of their hands, she needs them. They protect her, comfort her and be affectionate with her. She'll finally find what she has been looking for with not one man but with two men.
I really loved this book but I must admit I am usually not fond of menage relationships, but this was different. It was as if I could actually feel the emotions between these three. The heartbreaking sadness, fear, the love, the caring and of course desire. It was all intense. I can't wait for more from this series, I love this series. And I also can't wait for Cade's story, it should be a riot. :D
This is the 9th book in the series, but it is currently the only full length novel.
Max has just come to a quite new town after escaping her abusive ex. Ayden and Josh know the moment they see her, smell her, that she's their mate. But they will have to get over their jealously and work together to make Max see she belongs with them..... Both of them. And they will have to do everything in their power to keep her safe.
Loved seeing Max's strength and every if she didn't realize it at first her willpower to survive in extreme circumstances. The back and forth between Ayden and Josh although serious at times also helped keep the story from being too intense. Enjoyed the surprises throughout. Great read loved this one love the whole series.
Good read. This is the first I have read from this series or this author. I liked the writing style. I really enjoyed how the pov changed with each chapter giving the reader a glimpse of the story from all sides. I loved the heroes--super possessive alphas. I found the heroine a little annoying with all the crying and "lip biting". I understand she had a traumatic life, and was filled win insecurities, but I think I would have liked to have seen her "toughen up" a little sooner in the story line. I was also confused with the "dream sequence" of the attack of her ex. It seemed a little too real to the story to just toss away as a dream. Over all, very enjoyable. Would like to read more from this author.
Submissive does not mean weak. However, weak is exactly how I saw this female character. I get that her self esteem is totally in the shitter after being with an emotionally and physically abusive boyfriend, but all she did was whine and cry the whole book and kept saying how nobody could love her. There was no gradual, ok, maybe I am worthy of these two alphas' love. It was pity party the whole book and then boom, I'm worth it in 2 pages at the end of the book. If I were these two alleged alpha wolf shifters, I'd think I got the short end of the stick. Nobody wants a crybaby who is not portrayed as this strong woman who likes submitting in the bedroom, but rather an almost pitiful woman who can't love herself so why should anyone else. Ugh.
While I did enjoy the story itself I only gave it 3 stars because like EVERY SINGLE ONE of Christin's books in this series we are not just hit over the head but beaten over the head with the fact that the heroine is SHORT and FAT!!!!! I get it she was overweight and has self-esteem issues because of that, but it wasn't necessary to state that on just about every page. It would have been nice to change up the character since just about every heroine she writes is exactly the same....short, overweight, brown hair and brown eyes. We get it....she is writing herself each time, but since she is a writer thought she might be able to be get more creative and gives use something different.
I like this book and thought that the characters were well written and ones that anyone can relate to. The problem I had with this book was a the internal mono log. There are times where the characters thoughts can make you lose track of who's thoughts they are. The biggest problem I had with this is in the sex scene. I understand what they were trying to do but all of her thoughts just kept dragging on. I like what all the characters have to go through to get that HEA. I would highly recommend this book to anyone because at least one of the characters will touch you and have you rooting for more.
The story of Max, Ayden, and Josh was more than I could stand at times. Max's abuse at the hands of her ex had me beyond angry and his words infuriated me! I was proud of her resolve to want better, and know she deserved more love, life, and self-esteem. I admired Ayden and Josh for not questioning nature but accepting the call to do what a Alpha is supposed to do: love and protect their mate. Their love for Max transformed from fear to love. I will admit I love Care! Fell in love with his immediate want to know and want to protect her. I am glad to get to know him better. Great job Christin!
I really enjoyed reading Max's Story and understanding her insecurities about her size and the way she looked. I hated Greg and my only criticism was that she gave him to much space in the book. I enjoyed that it was a longer story than some others. I loved Josh and Ayden and wish that there where more blokes like them around, who would not love two hot sexy attentive blokes panting after you. I'm really looking forward to more from this creative author.
I loved this book. Christin built the story up beautifully. The art of denial, longing and enticement were all present for he reader. I mean come on what women doesn't dream about to gorgeous men falling all over themselves to please her? Throw in the animalistic werewolf and you have the complete package.
I liked all the other books in the Alpha series but very disappointed in this one. The main character Max is so irritating, I understand she has some self esteem issues but come on!! I skipped so much of the book (especially when she remembers how her ex treated her...we get it he was a douche bag!) it might as well have been a DNF.
I had a very hard time getting into this story and the female lead frustrated me throughout the book. I understood the sensitive nature of the characters background and the apprehension and fear of her moving forward but I found the story to be too slow and difficult to get past many redundant monologues by the female character.
Wow!! A truly amazing journey. Following a young woman through her extremely abusive relationship, of which I cried many times. To her finding her way to break free and learn to love and be loved and cherished as any person should! Incredibly written! Thank you Christin for sharing yourself through your books!
While it was a great novel, some or most of it was hard to stomach. This one deals with low self esteem and physical, mental and emotional abuse. There were some things in this novel, that I never want to read about again. However it was well written and I adored the HEA.
