Warning: Spoilers for last volume

Team leader, Deadshot, is...um, DEAD!
Having sacrificed himself to save his lover, Harley, in the last volume...
So this one opens at his funeral.
Enter The Joker!
Or, rather, enter the Death of The Family tie-in with Harley.
I'd already read this, but it was still decent. It's basically a peek at how psychos break up with each other.
shakes head
But you know they're gonna end up together again at some point, so it doesn't feel all that final.

Ok. Remember Yo-Yo?
No?
Yeah, I'd forgotten about him, too.
But (If I remember correctly) the Shark King ate him a while back for getting on his nerves. Maybe. Like I said, I sort of forgot about him.
Anyhoo, either the Shark King pooped him out, threw him up, or Waller somehow managed to otherwise extract him...cause he's BACK from the dead!
And he's also in Amanda's pocket.
Speaking of Back From the Dead, Deadshot's alive.
How?
Looks like Waller is feeding the Suicide Squad some sort of regenerative OJ or something, because everyone seems to keep popping back up like daisies.

In the end, the SS goes on a retrieval mission for Waller, that turns out to be a bit more personal than she initially wants them to know.
Awww. She does have a heart!
It's just all shriveled and crusty.

They go up against Yo-Yo's sister (Red Orchid), and (surprise, surprise) a back from the dead Regulus.
And then it's on to the sewers, where they meet up with a goopy version of the Swamp Thing. Only not as nice.

Here's the kicker:

Riiiiight.

It's an ok title that's improved over time, but it's still not something that turns my crank.
Not excited for the next volume, but (of course) I'll read it if my library keeps buying this title.

OK, this volume was definitely better than all the others. It had much more action and all of the fighting scenes actually fit a bigger picture. The abilities of some of the adversaries were actually pretty cool although !

The best part, although it wasn't quite for me, was the dynamic between Harley Quinn and The Joker. It's actually interesting to see the different versions of him. Apparently, between all the DC writers out there, he ranges from "simple" crime-family-leader with a crazy-violent persona to bat-shit-insane and it's the latter we get here. Interesting, however, is also Harley's blooming independence. We saw a hint of that in the movie when she took off her "Puddin'" collar but she still loved Mr. J and was delighted when he came for her in the very last scene - here she seems to want to get away from him which is a bit disappointing to me, personally (not the being independent thing but that they aren't as good together as they seemed in the movie). Also, I get that . Add to that the fact that and you get one surprised/dissatisfied reader over here.

Another characer that started getting my attention was Yo-Yo although he had ups and downs. But that only leads me to my next criticism. Because quite unnerving but apparently absolutely normal for such comics also is the fact that anyone can come back from the dead. Death just doesn't mean anything. I hate that. Really. I can excuse it once but not all the time and not with every character. So that put me off quite a bit.

That being said, despite still not loving the art, this volume was good enough to get 4 very generous/hopeful stars and to convince me to keep reading the remaining 2 volumes (yes, I'm a completist in this case).

This one was a lot more fun than the previous volume. Or maybe it wasn't more fun, maybe it was just more comprehensible. No. That isn't right, either. We're talking about Harley and Mr. J, again, so no matter how you look at it, it's awesome, and I love all the facetime! :)

But things aren't all rosy, alas, and you thought that *you* had a nasty breakup?

Well Mr. J and Harley can absolutely redefine that term for you. It'll help anyone out with that lauded perspective thingie. :)

And then there's Yo-Yo. I never would have guessed his character could stretch so far and cover all of my regard? I love this guy. He's so much better than that weenie over at Fantastic Four. Plus, he has one hell of a hothouse flower of a sister. :)

I'm going to be honest. I read this just a few days ago and I remember virtually nothing about it. I guess it wasn't horrible, I think I would remember that. But it clearly wasn't very good. I'd remember that, too.

This was pretty good. I really liked the abusive relationship that Harley and The Joker had. It was so weird but very interesting. The artwork was amazing. Overall, this was a very entertaining installment.

OK this is the comically bad type of book...as in I want to see how bad it can get...it's not one of those misogynist or homophobic or just stupid books, it's just a lame book with stiff writing.

So, at the end of last volume, Deadshot shot Regulus by shooting through himself! So there really was a Suicide on the Suicide Squad...although I read it as he just wounded himself...and I read it like 4 hours ago...Anyhoo...moving right along to the start of Vol. 3 and we're having a military funeral for Deady because well once a Marine, always a Marine, even a high-priced Assassin one.

Who should crash the funeral? Why Harley's long lost boyfriend, Mr. Nicholas Face-Off Cage himself, the Heath Ledger!

He's not so happy that Harley and Floyd (Deadshot) were getting their Missy Elliot, so they sorta break up in a violent manner, he leaves her chained up in a room full of skeletons...

Flash forward, and Waller is letting Boomerang go for his fine work with Basilisk, when Harley stumbles to the gates of Belle Reve, having escaped Mista J!

Then, who should pop up from the hospital bed, but? (If you said Deadshot, you win a prize. If you said Deadpool, you're in the wrong company, and also, you're probably too funny for this GRITTY REBOOT!)

So Deadshot has now returned from the dead, and Harley is healed from her issues...plus, we also have YoYo returned from his time in the King Shark Guts...however, some of them are still not recovered from their Basilisk battle...

So there's a new mission, Deadshot and Harley are sent on, because of course, they're the stars of this book. Who should join them? Yo-yo, a recovered King Shark and...Voltaic! (Wait, you ask, who the fuck is that? Why silly reader, that's one of the members of the Squad from Volume 1 who Deadshot...Shot...Dead...in the Head...with Lead (bullets).) Ya, didn't really care there, but OK, so they're all now death proof or some shit, because the smarties finally realize that wait, they should all be dead by now...oh well, it's time to go on a mission so we'll just forget all of that stuff...

SIDEBAR! (Judge Ito: So ummm if they cannot be killed, why is this Waller able to bully them into doing her bidding by saying she'll blow up the Nano-Bombs in their necks? If that's the case, shouldn't they just call her bluff? Besides, don't they know the sequels always fail if they get rid of too many main characters at once?)

Anyhowzers...this time, we're after a very evil one...Red ORCHID! Who is? Fucked if I know...well turns out, she's Yo-Yo's sister (cue up unnecessary flashback number 62 of this series). Yup.

Cue up some ripoff scenes from Kill Bill (room full of ninjas and shoguns and all this stuff of Asian martial arts culture in suits, I was waiting for Lucy Liu, but instead I got Asian Schoolgirls with Morningstars...yup VERY original!)

Voltaic gets stabbed through the heart with a Samurai sword, and doesn't even flinch, so I'm assuming he's a zombie or some shit, because he hasn't said a word since his resurrection, so I'm guessing they're going to tell us that they unlocked the secret of Resurrection Man (who's hand they captured last volume...well, cut off and stole I should say...) and that's why no one dies? I think that might make TOO much sense though, so shame on me...

Anyhoo. Red Orchid appears, alongside whomelse? Why, it's Regulus! Who's also not dead (and was just shot-dead by dead-shot...but is not.) how wonderful.
Yoyo's internal monologue turns on and he becomes all Carpe Diem and heroic, as he leads the troops...
Then we see that Waller has sent them to retrieve a prisoner! Why, it's KURT LANCE!!!!

(Ummm? Who? Well kiddos, he's actually Dinah Lance's husband, who she's on the run from everyone for apparently murdering!!! - Turns out he too was part of Team 7 with Waller and Regulus (also I think Deathstroke was part of that team)) Ugh for fuck's sake this is just retarded at this point.

The only reason I give this 2 stars is because of the bitchy joke that gets told: Yoyo tries to rally the troops, and cries out "SUICIDE SQUAD! ASSEMBLE!" to which Deadshot replies "That sounds ridiculous...who says that?" And I was like Oh no you di-int! And he was all, Hells ya I di-id! OOOOH Gurl!

Ya.
Well apparently, Regulus takes Kurt Lance and flees, and this is enough to make the hard as nails Waller run into combat!

At this point, Red Orchid has won and is about to kill everyone Poison Ivy style, but Yo yo wraps his head around hers, and gets Deadshot to shoot him in the neck (where his nano bomb of course, explodes heartily!). Hero! Yo yo goes out with a bang, but I feel like I'm going to see him in Volume 4 again...I just have a feeling...

The explosion leaves everyone dead..or so Deadshot thinks, until he's saved by Waller, who's somehow moved from her home base in Belle Reve, LOUISIANA to GOTHAM CITY in time to save them.

Then cue up the WORST dialogue ever...we're talking Scott Lobdell, Ann Nocenti and Dan Jurgens rolled into one:

Waller to Deadshot: "Last I checked, I didn't give you PERMISSION to die!"
Deadshot: "Amanda Waller, I never thought I'd be HAPPY to see you!"
Waller: "Don't worry Deadshot, that'll change QUICKLY..."

Shakespearean.

They all escape, and then Waller tells them they're on a new mission, Deadshot says NO! Not until you tell me what's going on! She reminds him of the Nanobomb! He calls her bluff! (For about the 5 trillionth time! No one is going to believe you any more if you don't follow through Mandy.)

Then Waller...TURNS OFF ALL THEIR BOMBS!
Tells them this is personal, that she used to be on a team like them, Team 7...Kurt Lance is her FRIEND! And she's going after him NO MATTER WHAT!

But why turn off our bombs?
Because I NEED YOU. And I will remember this if you help me.

And yet, no one shoots her dead right there, even though all of them could escape and be gone.

Then she makes all small talky with Harley, who starts to have a problem with Harleen in her brain and the 2 are fighting for control....

They're attacked...by the Swamp Thing ripoffs that Regulus mentioned in passing last volume...

Waller is out! Deadshot says the only smart thing in recent memory, that OK, she's not dead, they saved her, now let's all fuck right off.

King Shark and Harley then tell him that he gave his word, and his word is his bond...Really??? REALLY? HE's A FUCKING ASSASSIN! A PATALOGICAL LIAR! HE ALREADY DIED A BUNCH OF TIMES! HIS WORD IS NOTHING!

He's about to leave anyhow when..."THE Unknown Soldier!" appears and tells him he better keep his word, because even scum like Deadshot should do that...

(And when he introduces himself, his words look like a logo!)

Uknowny (Imma call him dat) then says that he's super fast and jacked and stronger than all of them and they're gonna do what Waller wanted...Deadshot calls bullshit...

AND SHOCKINGLY!!!! UKNOWY SHOOTS DEADSHOT DEAD! WITH HIS OWN GUN! AGAIN! JUST LIKE THE END OF THE VERY LAST VOLUME! OH MY GOD! HOW ORIGINAL! I NEVER EVER EVER SAW THAT COMING! YOU JUST REDID THE SAME THING AGAIN! THAT IS SOOO EDGY!...for 1992.

Oh and they all look on with shock as Unknowy proclaims himself the new "Team Leader" of the Suicide Squad.

Tune in NEXT volume, when I predict that Deadshot...will be shot. dead. with his own gun. at the end of Volume 4!

I actually found this comically bad.

So... you didn't mean what you just said?

...I meant some of it.

Which part?

Like I know? If you haven't noticed, I'm a bit crazy.

Better, though we've added in a new thing where is seems no one can die. These being comics, of course no one can die for long. But we can usually get a year or two out of a death. In Suicide Squad you get an issue or two. Tops. I'm sure it's some weird plot point, but I only half care because death is cheap in comics at the best of times.

We start off with an especially crazy Joker, which is fun. There are callouts to a couple of tie-ins over in the Bat comics, so we're missing a little, but nothing that seems overly important to what is happening here.

We even get to see Waller have a heart. Sort of. It's about 18 issues too late for me to not want her dead, but it's something.

WOW!!! This has got to be my favorite out of the three. This volume started out with a BANG! By showing us the one and only, THE JOKER. We finally got some joker time and got to see Harley with him! This volumes really amps up the humor, the action, the gore, the characters and so much more. This also had a much more simpler plot than the other two volumes. The ending had me like "Wait... What just happened?" IT WAS EPIC!!! The series really knows how to hook you at the end and makes you await with pain for the others. Overall I thought that this volume was AWESOME!!! And come on QUINN has got to be the BEST FREAKIN CHARACTER!!!

Pre-review:

I saw this:

Harley's lost "love" the Joker casts a poisonous rain over Deadshot's funeral, leaving only Harley conscious to face the clown prince of crime. Angered and unable to trust Harley because of her relationship with Deadshot, the Joker tests Harley's loyalty, a test which may cost both of them their lives.

What right does the Joker have getting angry at Harley's relationship with another guy? For god's sake he dumped her and hadn't cared much about her all along okay? *pouts*

By the way, I love Assault on Arkham to pieces! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:...

4.5 stars:

I enjoyed volume 3 much more than volume 2 but still not as much as volume one.
I liked that the storyline went into a bit more depth of Harley and the jokers story as I find this more interesting.

Suicide Squad, Vol. 3: Death is for Suckers is the most disjointed volume in the series. I finished it yesterday on the bus, but I’d have a hard time giving you a coherent summary of what happens, except that there was a lot of fighting.

Nearly every page in this collection had characters just wailing on each other. The small bits of plot included were pretty vague and only served as an excuse for more fight scenes. At the beginning, there’s a semi-interesting story involving the Joker returning that ties in to the "Death of the Family" arc. But that was fairly short lived and mostly just an extended scene of Harley and the Joker beating each other to a pulp. It was also annoying because we’re told that Harley Quinn was only brought into the team as bait to get the Joker out of hiding. Seriously? The one female on the squad was only included because they wanted her boyfriend? If I hadn’t heard how much better this series gets in volume four, I definitely would have given up on it at that point. From there, the story devolves into more random fight scenes while the team tries to recover a “package” for Waller.

The most confusing aspect of this volume was how much emphasis was placed on the “relationship” between Harley and Deadshot. In the previous two volumes, they interacted very little except for one quick fling and to shoot the occasional threat at each other. So, I didn’t buy that that the Joker threatening to dismember Deadshot’s corpse would be a huge deal for Harley or that Joker’s taunts about him would have very much impact. I thought Deadshot was just some dude she had sex with once.

Overall, this collection wasn’t very good. Very little actually happens and we’re treated to some recycled material. Like the killings of a handful of characters we had already seen die in the series. Considering that this volume ends at issue 19, that’s verging pretty close to “Oh my god, they killed Kenny” territory with a few of these characters.

Despite this collection not being great, it still held my attention a lot better than the previous volume. I’ll be picking-up Suicide Squad, Vol. 4: Discipline and Punish, since I think things get better with a new writer behind the wheel.

Okay, well this volume is a marginal improvement over the previous one. With a new art team, the look of the book has improved, although the cover of this volume is pretty ugly. Out of all of the covers of the original comics contained in this book, THAT was the one you chose? Seriously, any of the others would have been better. The writing even sparkles a bit during the latter half of the book. I like the banter between Yo Yo and Harley. I've lost count of how many times everyone has been thought to be dead only to return. Even by comics standards it's getting a bit ridiculous. I see that [redacted] has been shot again. We'll see how long that lasts. I'd be happy to give up on the series at this point, but I know we get a new writer in the next volume, so perhaps further improvement is on the way? I can only hope.

Wow, this was intense. I definitely liked it better than Volume 2. Harley definitely has some relationship drama to work through (when an old boyfriend shows up). I am finding I really like Harley, although it's a strange thing to say. I guess it's because I don't see her murdering innocent people in panel (well, sort of). I'm sure if I did, my opinion would change. I like the way she handles her old flame who is as crazy as crazy can be.

The beginning is the resolution to the massive cliff the creators dropped us off at the end of the last volume. I was really worried, but I thought that the bad news at the end of the last volume wouldn't be the end, and I was right, but then something crazy happens at the end of this volume. It's never-ending!

I really like the artwork in this series. It's bright and energetic and crazy! It matches the insanity of this storyline. Team X is continually put into the fire, and this time is no different. You can really live vicarously through the Team X members, especially if you have slightly homicidal urges and like to go on rampages in the name of justice (sort of). Let's hope you don't have homicidal urges though. Let's just say if you want an adrenaline rush graphic novel series, then this one might meet your needs.

I never know what to expect in this series, and I like that about it. I hope my library keeps getting these.

Characters die. Or don't! Team members betray! Or don't! This series continues to just squeak by as being acceptable for me. Granted, I am reviewing it almost a week after I read it, but it is telling that I can just shrug my shoulders at it. Any good in it is weakened by poor plot progression, slightly too messy artwork and lettering, and most notably the Death of the Family tie-in, which I felt really weakened the main Joker/Harley interaction in Batman, Vol. 3: Death of the Family. Read this if you want, but don't pay for it.

A good continuation of the previous two episodes. Action-packed and a lively pace generally. I enjoyed most of the characters although I did not care much for the Joker --- at some point, there needs to be an underlying purposed behind what he does other than just sowing chaos and engaging in acts of sadism. This episode ends dramatically and definitely leaves me anticipating the next in this series!

better than issue 2 and anything with Harley is going to be good. especially when she starts kicking Mr. J's ass. By the way, The Joker is looking real creepy.

YoYo turned out really interesting and I'm still curious about what happened to Black Spider .

I am tired of hearing how the team hated Waller and wants to kill her or abandon her. Yeah I get it. I hate her too but let's move on.

Well, this is turning into a heck of a ride! I really enjoyed the Harley and Joker part, though I had read parts of it in Death Of The Family. I wonder what book the part with Harley dressing up as him had come out of though.
But, I digress. I enjoy seeing how now Harleen is coming back to help Harley. I am sure this directly leads into her solo series, since she seams to be much more balanced there.
This series is really fast paced, and action packed. I am sad I only have two more books to read though.

Other readers aren't kidding when they say this volume is disjointed from the rest of the Suicide Squad series. It has nothing to do with the rest of the storyline other than the return of Regulus. What was really disappointing was the continuation of the Death of the Family story arc. Why can't the writers just let this die already? This version of the Joker is horrible and is extremely abusive to Harley Quinn. While he always pushed Harley around a bit, he never got to the point of strangling her or attempting to murder her! The writers seem to be forgetting that while the Joker and Harley share a very dysfunctional relationship, a "Mad Love" if u will, the two of them still need each other and truly do complete one another! Also, this version of the Joker has nothing to do with the overall storyline in any of the Batman titles. It's like a bad intermission across all the volume threes in this story arc. I really hope this stops. I've gotten to a point where I'm tempted to just start skipping past all the volume threes in the Batman universe, in order to enjoy the series as much as I initially did with volumes one and two.

Something's rotten in Belle Reve. It could be the villain-corpses that are somehow springing back to life... Or it could be a really lame plot centred around some stretchy guy named Yo-yo.

Really, the only reason to read this volume is Harley Quinn. She steels the spotlight. Especially with the two-issue tie-in to Death of the Family in which she goes nose-to-nose with Joker. I couldn't help but cheer for her. There is a sort of tragicomic sympathy that she evokes in me.... I laugh at her pain, but then, I also don't want her to be in pain. I credit some good writing and strong character development for this affect.

King Shark was also good for a couple of laughs, Amanda Waller earns a bit of street cred ( however, I still can't accept this new Waller into my heart) but other than that, this collection is fairly vacuous. Mostly because Regulus doesn't seem to pose any threat as a villain, or, if he does pose a threat, it really isn't clear what that threat is yet.

Had hoped for better, but it was still entertaining.

"Suicide Squad, assemble!"
"That sounds ridiculous. Who says that?"

THIS. WAS. AMAZING.

All the storylines were great, but my favourite was the Harley and Joker conflict. Oh my god. You can't show stuff like this in a movie. The violence is horrific -- and it's awesome. This Joker is what nightmares are made of.

The visual style is gritty, which really works for the story.

I don't know what happened with Vol. 2, but you could probably skip straight from 1 to 3. This one had everything great about Vol. 1, including the humour.

Overall, very entertaining and highly recommended.

This volume contains what is easily one of the best Death of the Family tie-ins, but the rest of the volume lacks the punch that the series has had up till now. The story of Regulus is being dragged out too far, and the four issue storyline about Red Orchid is nonsensical and teases lots of stuff about different members of the team without actually answering any questions. The artwork varies in tone from solid to scratchy, which I suppose works with the uneven storylines too; it's a shame, but this series seems to be heading downhill and I enjoyed the first two trades immensely. Maybe it is time for a new writer, and a regular artist.

Seri bir önceki ciltteki fena olmayan çizgiyi sürdürüyor. İlk iki bölüm Batman, Cilt 3: Ailenin Ölümü hikayesinin uzantısıydı. New 52 Harley Quinn'i ile Joker'inin yüzleşmesini görüyoruz.

The only notable thing to come from this is the way Harley finally realises that the Joker is an abusive spouse, and she frees herself from him. This is so so so important because people always romanticise their relationship, even though, for the most part, it's always just consisted of him hurting her in *zany* ways.
